Button Bag

Made from calico and fabric scraps, this bag has 4 pockets and a double corded drawstring at the top. Floral fabric was used to line the pockets and the inside of the bag (see Maple Leaf Patchwork to view the same fabric used in a quilt). The "people" were attached to the calico using iron-on fusible paper (Visoflex). They were then embellished with blanket stitch and other embroidery, plus ribbon, lace, and tiny beads. The buttons were from my cupboard! Years ago, I was given a large tin of assorted buttons by a friend who once had a sewing shop. She'd saved all the odd buttons that are attached to the lids of the plastic tubes used to store and display buttons for sale. The buttons on the bag are all the same shape and size but different colours.
A close-up of the applique and button bag. Quite tiny fabric scraps were used (I rarely throw fabric away. as you can see).
