Maple Leaf Patchwork

This photo shows the latest "quilt in progress". Two of my 4 sisters (Mary and Julia) and I made 6 blocks each, using scraps of red cotton fabric combined with calico. Some blocks are hand pieced; some are machine sewn. I assembled the quilt by machine, using extra calico for filler blocks, blue fabric for the sashing, and a red floral print (given to me by my mother) for the wide border. I am now in the process of hand quilting it.
Four maple leaf blocks have been combined to make a cushion cover. Note the strip of masking tape to the left: I use it to keep my quilting lines straight. Each strip can be re-used a number of times. The quilt and matching cushion will be presented to our parents for their 45th wedding anniversary.
