Heather's and John's quilts were made from blocks and fabric sent from patchwork friends all over the world, which were then sewn together into quilts by their mother, i.e. me!
The project was begun on May 12th, 1998, which was Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Awareness Day. Heather has been suffering from CFS for about 6 years (she became ill at age 14). I wanted to make her a quilt in her favourite colours and star patterns, in recognition of her (mostly!) patient endurance of this illness. Her younger brother John's quilt had already been started, and some of the donors sent blocks and fabric for him, too, so he wouldn't feel left out. These were used in the border of his quilt.
Many sent cards, letters and loving thoughts as well - complete strangers sharing from caring hearts. These have been collected into a folder, and kept for posterity.
Quilt bags were made for the quilts, too. All the names of the participants have been sewn onto the bags. On Heather's quilt bag, they form leaves on a tree.
I can't find adequate words to express my appreciation for what the participants did to help in this project. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you all!
