"Lekker"

©1990 by Ami Simms

I was invited to teach in Holland back in 1990 and wanted to make a memory quilt of the experience, and "Lekker" was the resulting wall quilt. As near as I can figure out "Lekker" is Dutch for "wonderful, terrific, super, great...." I don't speak Dutch, but every television commercial has at least one Lekker in it.

The four Dutch quilters who brought me over are each perched on a blade of the windmill. Each blade is made with a piece of traditional Dutch plaid fabric. My mother, daughter and I are featured at the bottom, all with our faces conveniently hidden. (I don't do faces.)
