Yvonne's Quilt

I wanted to write you to thank you for giving me such a special gift---your book, Creating Scrapbook Quilts! For quite some time, I wanted to find a way to display some of our family's most treasured photographs in a format where they could be viewed frequently and cherished. You fueled my hope into doing just that! I started my quilt in December, 1997 and finished it in March, 1998. I am a mediocre sewer at best (but I keep practicing!) and my quilting skills are much to be desired as well, but I decided to give it a shot anyway.

I believe there are 145 images. I counted them after the quilt was complete and found it nearly impossible to find an accurate way to count them! I came across one picture after the quilt was completed that I felt had to be included in the quilt, which is why it was unfortunately sewn on the border. Adorning the quilt are buttons, two pictures my son drew of family pets, an Army dog tag, a pet dog tag, some charms, earrings I wore to my first and second marriages, a cubic zirconia solitaire ring, achievement ribbons, a key chain, the numbers off my school graduation tassels and two honor society pins. Next to the quilt hangs a brief history I composed of my family.

I have never been so proud of something I constructed with my own two hands (and with the help of my mother's!) even though at times it was the source of much frustration!

Ami, thank you again for your book. You and the other quiltmakers featured in your book were such an inspiration to me."
