My Brother's Birthday Quilt

I just wanted to thank you for your great book on scrapbook quilts. I just finished one for my brother's 60th birthday. It was really neat. It had 130 photos on it--- yes, it got bigger as I went and ended up being 60" x 60" (I began to wonder if I was going to be "wall papering" their family room with it!) There were black & whites as well as color - 1957 prom and graduation photos - 1904 grandparents -- current grandchildren -- dancing with his daughter at her wedding etc. I even typed little tidbits of some of the photos and sewed them it (e.g., this is the first house that Dick & Barb bought). Another fun part was to go to our local scrapbook store and get some neat stickers (e. g "best grandpa") and photo transfer them. They really transfer well because of the clear and sharp colors. I used some of their border stickers to highlight photos before transferring. The fabric I used was a northwoods theme from Moda in greens, tans, and maroons so it had a nice masculine look. I even took a border paper that had a fishing theme to it, typed my label for the back of the quilt, shrunk it to 5 x 7 and photo transferred it! The hardest part of the quilt to adjust to was my "lack of control" of how it was going to turn out. I'm used to being in control on where things are going to set. I laid out all the photos where I thought they should be, began sewing and it turned out totally different (and better) than my plans. It was really fun to let the size of the photos do their own arranging. I also learned early in the game how important it is to accurately square up things to avoid the parallelogram looking sections. We've never met but you have blessed me with your books!
