Joanne's Birthday

"I started the quilt on Labor Day and finished on September 29, just in time to give it to my sister-in-law, Joanne Rinker, for her 60th birthday. I work four days a week so this was quite a feat! I have been quilting since 1993 and have made a few prize winning quilts, but I must admit that I never had as much fun making a quilt as I did with this one. I used your book, and your photo-transfer paper.

I embellished the quilt with coins from Ireland by the Irish pictures, a baseball and glove by the picture of Camden Yards, a guitar by her husband playing the guitar, and a number of other meaningful things.

I gave it to Joanne at her surprise party and it was sure the hit of the party. After she opened it the people standing around her reminded me of the pedals of a big flower closing. You couldn't get close to the quilt for a long time. There was a retired Marine there who kept crying and telling me that he had flown many bombing missions over Viet Nam and the quilt was the most awesome thing he had ever seen. I later sent his wife information on your book and your photo-transfer paper so I sure hope she makes him something.
