from page 33.... "Begin by grasping the needle between the first finger and thumb of the top hand, palm down, point down, with the eye of the needle firmly anchored in the dimples of the top of the thimble.
Needle held between first finger and thumb, point down, with needle eye balanced in thimble top. SET the point of the needle on the top of the quilt and remove the first finger and thumb from the sides of the needle. EXERT ONLY ENOUGH PRESSURE TO KEEP THE NEEDLE BALANCED ON TOP OF THE QUILT IN A STRAIGHT, VERTICAL POSITION. Rest the thumb on the surface of the quilt.
