Ami's AfterChat Newsletter

March 1999

Please Note: This newsletter was originally sent on March 18, 1999. It may not have improved with age. Information may be outdated and irrelevant, not to mention useless. It is here only for your enjoyment.

WELCOME
I'm glad you're here. If you're not and want to be removed from this list, type WART in the subject line and you will be removed. Painlessly. No one will ever know you were here. Honest.

For those of you on America Online, please join me in the AOL chat room on the 4th Thursday of every month. This month, that's the 25th. We have protocol from 9:00 pm EST to 9:45, and then we just type at each other. Come on in!

SIMPLY QUILTS
It was so much fun to be re-runned a few weeks ago. My photo-transfer segment was taped back in 1997. I looked so much younger. I said all the same things as the last time I saw me on TV, but it's still such a thrill. I remembered about 15 minutes into it that I was going to be a re-run, when my mother called to tell me I was on TV. (Usually her cat is on TV, but she just sits on the set. The cat, not my mom.) So I raced into the living room and tuned in. Then I went and got the trim carpenter, figuring if he thought I was a famous TV star he'd start coming more often and finally finish up. (No dice.)

HOUSE UPDATE
During my television appearance I left the plumbers right where they were, re- installing the fire place. It's one of those vent-free, fake log, gas-burning things. The first time they installed it, they put it in upside-down. No kidding. The little prongs to hold the wood were pointing down. I commented that the writing by the on knob was upside-down and that the flames sure were short, but they assured me it was in correctly. Yeah. Uh-huh. Looks much better know.

After the plumbers left we got our final plumbing inspection. I'm going to frame the neon green sticker! (By the fire place. Next to the carbon monoxide detector.) We're still waiting for the last bit of trim and at least a gallon of paint. It would be weeks. Then we're on to floor coverings! I'm sure that will be a piece of cake!

ON THE ROAD AGAIN
Just came back from a fun time with quilters in North Carolina. Fun classes, good food (ever try potato encrusted salmon?) and super nice quilters. I got a short visit at Georgia Bonesteel's quilt shop which is in the back of her husband's hardware store. When you purchase with a credit card it says Bonesteel's Hardware on the charge slip. Steve'll probably think I picked up a few early Christmas presents instead of more fabric! Joke's on him!

On March 27, I'll be teaching hand quilting here in Flint, Michigan at the beautiful Whaley Historical House. Twelve students will join me for a gourmet meal served in the dining room. Then we retire to the parlor and sit and stitch around the quilting frame until the lamps burn low. We may even be visited by the ghost of Mr. Whaley. (Spaces available, I think. Call Len Thomas at 810 235-6841. I'll be doing a repeat during Quilts At Crossroads in September. Book early.)

Then during Easter break I'll be teaching an informal workshop in ...........R O M E. Emanuela D'Amica, owner of Rome's quilt shop will be arranging a get- together at Ostia Antica (the ancient port city of Rome) with some Italian quilters. We'll walk among the ruins and I'll show them how to draft the "quilty" patterns we see in the floor tiles. (Remember Classic Quilts: Patchwork Designs From Ancient Rome?) After a day turn around, I'll be off to Durango, Colorado for the Four Corners Quilters.

CHURCH BULLETINS
This is a compilation of actual Church Bulletins and Service bloopers which I found quite amusing and thought you would too:

  • Our next song is "Angels We Have Heard Get High"
