Directions:
  1. Open MS Word
  2. Select the ten questions and the extra credit questions below and cut and paste into the Word document
  3. Add a header with your name, "Exam 1", and the date
  4. Save the document
  5. Answer each question within the Word document immediately following each question
  6. Spell check the exam
  7. Printout a copy of the exam and turn it in.

Each question is worth 10 points. Partial credit will be given for partially correct answers.


 Who governs the Internet?


 What is one of the "darker" aspects of the Internet?  What can users do to avoid the "bad" side of the Internet?


 Name and briefly describe two ways like-minded groups of individual's can communicate on the Internet.


 What are the three parts of an operating system?  Briefly describe each part.


 What is a GUI and why would someone want to use one?


 What is a domain name?  How is a domain name related to an IP number?


 What is a file?  Describe two types of files and the extension used to denote each type of file.


 What is a protocol?


 How does a Supercomputer differ from a Mainframe?



 Compare and contrast raster graphics and vector graphics?
