Featherweight Fanatics™ Match Your Vintage or Antique Machine with a Project Challenge 1997

Objective:

To create a quilt or other related project that is representative of the time period your machine was manufactured. If you own more that one machine FROM THE SAME PERIOD, you are welcome to use them all. A "collectable" vintage or antique machine is required for this project.

Size:

If your schedule allows you to make a king sized quilt, by all means - have fun! But if you can't produce more that a miniature, as that's all the time you have, please participate! As long as it's representative of the period in style and fabric type, it's acceptable.

Fabric, Content, Methods, Notions, Etc.:

Please keep your fabric either antique or reproduction if you can. Try to be as consistent as possible throughout your project with the objective of this challenge. BUT, we're all reasonable and FUN people and understand uses of certain modern materials such as batting, thread and other related notions. Yes, by all means, take short cuts with rotary cutters and other things. BUT, use only your vintage machine. If your machine will quilt using a modern attachment that was not in use at the time your machine was produced this is allowed. Technically, it's a "no no", but if that's how your used to quilting, we'll look the other way. Hand quilting was ALWAYS in practice, but if you really want to quilt with the machine - do so. Remember, it's all for fun!

Time Frame:

Start as soon as you've completed your research and have acquired appropriate materials. The deadline for submitting your entry is November 1, 1997.

How To Submit:

Three 35mm photos are required; one of your project, the other of your machine, and a third of yourself (only winners photos will be displayed). These photos will be put up on the World Wide Quilting Page for voting, and results will be made public by January 31, 1988. All photos must be of finished projects. You may scan and forward entries to Sue Traudt via e-mail at Sue@quilt.com or your entry photos may be sent via U.S. Mail (snail mail) to:
