Subject: Re: quilting cruises

Hi Feathers~ To Gayle DeForest and others curious about if quilting cruises
are any fun or not. I got home last night after 10 days in Hawaii with a
wonderful group of quilters from all over the world who sailed from island to
island on the Norwegian Star cruise ship. I had the very best time ever. First
of all, even though it was the rainy season there, it only rained one
afternoon. The days were in the 80s and mostly sunny. Lucky us! The teachers were of
the highest caliber like Alex Anderson, Elly Sienkiewicz, Joen Wolfrom, Sue
Nickels, and a few others. We only quilted when we were at sea. In port there
were dozens of excursions to take part in. On board there were more activities
than anyone could possibly do. I chose sitting by the pool with a book for
the most part when we were at sea. So, the question being, was I bored?? NO
WAY! My roommate was a gal from Montana who has now become my new best
friend. I have even talked her into becoming a FW owner. Sewing machines were
provided for the classes so there was no need to risk traveling with our beloved
FWs. I would do a cruise again in a heart beat. My roommate has already
signed up for the next cruise going to Alaska ( in the summer!) and I just have to
check my calendar and will be making my reservation too. From Linda , who is
tanned and relaxed, but now hovering near the fireplace in damp and cold

Hi from the sunny part of the US. I just got another (my sixth) new FW AG
serial number with the scroll face plate and chrome wheel. I have been looking
at/bidding on 38/40 machines for those features, and am thrilled to finally
own one. I was surprised to learn when I called Singer that it's birthday is
actually in 1946??? Apparently one of the first out of the gate after the war?
The original type I case is in fantastic condition with almost no wear at
all. Best of all, it has no odor. But inside the case, at the site of each brad
or screw or whatever they are, there is a small amount of goldish yellow waxy
type substance. I would like to remove it so it doesn't smear onto anything,
but should I? Does anyone know what it is? I detailed the sewing machine
and it looks pretty good. Although, I am wondering about applying new decals on
the front of the machine. Would they match the old decals or would I have to
replace all the decals on the machine? Have never tried this before. Would
appreciate your opinions on these two questions!! Love this site!! Fellow
FW lover!
Joy

Thanks in advance!!

Hi all,
Thank you for all the people who wrote me about 301's and available
parts/manuals. I'm happy to learn that the 301 is a powerful machine, gear driven as
opposed to belt driven, and can drop the feed dogs, which is good for
free-motion quilting. It's a 16 pound aluminum machine, lightweight but not as
lightweight as the FW. It's a great straight stitcher! And it fits perfectly in an
extra carry-on flight bag I had.
