Subject: my 301 A

I've cleaned, oiled, lubed, polished, and adjusted my 301A find, and I'm
really happy with it. It sews GREAT! I found a page that shows several 301/301A
models, in case anyone else wants to see the differences. It's Taria's sewing
machines, and can be seen at http://home1.gte.net/res0yk6g/taria/index.htm.
The 301 has one plug into the machine for the foot pedal/wall plug. The 301A
has a separate foot pedal jack and AC jack.

I have traced my featherweight to 1935.BUT I have a rectangle oil can in
it.In the bottom of the box there is a space for the oil can but it
seems to be more oval, is it possible that the rectangle can was added
later then 1935? Is there somewhere I can find the date for this can? I
know it is older then Zip Codes!I can be reached
at....sandissewing@psknet.com if any one can help I would appreciate
it.Thank You. Sandi

Subject: New 301 A

Hi Feathers...
I just got a new to me tan 301A. I will soon get busy cleaning it up. I
paid $35, which incudes the original bobbin case, a buttonholer, and all the
attachments. I don't think that's too bad, do you? And remember, I had at one
time three 301 zigzaggers with no machine to fit them. I found homes for two of
them, and the third one must have led this machine to me.

What is the difference in a 301 and a 301A? My serial # is NB097670--Any
info on date or place of manufacture?

As far as what a 301 can do compared to a 221, I know the 301 can drop the
feed dogs. Any other differences? I'm looking forward to trying it out. I'll
be looking for a manual, if anyone has one. Thanks as always, Mindy, in cold
cold Maryland.

Hello Feathers,
FYI: There is going to be a Featherweight Maintenance Clinic in the SF
Bay area on Friday, Feb.6th 2004. It will be at Fabrics 'n' Fun in
Milpitas. (408-946-3860) The store has every Featherweight gadget
available as well as a few machines for sale. They are also known for
their excellent service department.
Just thought you might want to know where you can learn to maintain your
precious little machine and keep it humming.

Hi,
My name is Judy and I live in Victoria BC. I am married with 2 teenage
sons, and love to quilt. I collect mainly vintage treadles and handcranks,
but when I was in the auction house the other day I spotted that familiar
black case! Featherweights generally go too high for me, but this one was
full of thread in the bobbin area and the handwheel wouldn't turn so I
thought I might have a chance. It had the tray, manual, and attachments....
the only thing it is missing is the bobbin case which I knew I would be able
to replace. Sure enough I won it, so now I am on a quest for a new bobbin
case... anybody have a spare or know a good place to order one?
The other thing I was wondering about is the feeddog throatplate cover.
I was surprised to see that this one doesn't have seam allowance
measurements scored onto it, and I didn't get any kind of seam gauge in the
attachments. Is it possible to get a throat plate with the marks for
piecing?
Thanks so much in advance for any advice you can give me! I'm off to
fill out a form and get my new baby in your data base! Thanks a bunch!
