To Camille, you can get featherweight bobbins at JoAnn fabrics they come 4
to a pack and work fine..........

To HelenMarie, I am very partial to the early FW's because I like the
scroll work and the chrome handwheel, but all of them are considered
mechanically the same.
My 2 cts..........frish in freezing south jersey..........sick of winter and
sew are my bunnies, who we just mated on Sat. guess its never too cold for
that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Subject: Good information and some funnies

I was looking for information on knee controls vs. foot controls, and
found this site. Got a few kicks out of it, and figured y'all would too.
Enjoy!

Jonna ... Who'd rather use a knee control than a foot pedal any day ...
*sigh*

Keep the best cosmetic condition ones -- age is no consideration
unless one is 1934/35

The winder on a FW relies on the wheel keeping good contact with the
outside of the belt. It will fail to do this is the mounting blot
needs tightening or if the belt has cracks or ridges.

No rubber tire ever fitted to these machines.

I would like to get your reaction to my latest project.
Why not make the FW you take to quilting class fun?

My wife wanted something different - so this is what I can up with.

Gerald
The FW you just painted reminds me of the color of the MGB my husband and I
bought when we were first married. How I loved that machine!

I, too, have a Pfaff 18, and haven't been able to find out much about
it. I have a photo in the group album. Mine did come with a manual, but
that's about all I have in the way of info. By inspection, I know that
it's a high shank machine. Its serial number doesn't seem to match up
with the numbers listed on websites for dating Pfaffs, so I'm also
wondering if was some sort of contract-machine. I haven't played with it
much and am guessing it was made in the 60s or 70s.

Date: Tue, 20 Jan 2004 23:21:36 -0500

Hi all,

Announcing a north Florida gathering of vintage sewing machine
enthusiasts on March 12th-14th. The core group is members of
TreadleOn, a list devoted to the use of people-powered machines
(see http://www.treadleon.net ) However, we all started with
Featherweights, and for many of us, this was the first list we
joined. More importantly, we are blessed with SMGs in the
area, and hope to have our friends, Glenn Williams and Chris
Vagtborg, in attendance on the FW parade/demo/raffle/sale
day (the 13th.) If you're in the area, check out the details
on the Flea Market link at the treadleon site listed above.

If you're not in the area, Florida's quite nice in March.
Usually. We promise to feed you good BBQ and
introduce you to a bunch of new people, techniques,
and machines. Gainesville is about 80 miles south of
the Florida/Georgia state border, right off I-75.

In other news, Alan Quinn now has quite a number of
online manuals at the Needlebar site. The one of most
interest to this list is probably the white FW manual
with interactive problem-solving links in section 5.
Too cool. Check it out at http://www.needlebar.com
and then manuals, white FW, section 5. A number
of other manuals are also now available, including:

Frister & Rossmann Transverse Shuttle
Goodrich B High Arm
Howe Treadle, Hand and Wheelfeed Machines
Raymond Chainstitcher
Singer 9W
Singer 15K110/111/112
Singer 221K White (with interactive troubleshooting in sec. 5)
Singer 221K Black
Early Jones CS
Vesta Cylinder Shuttle
Vickers 7000
Wheeler & Wilson 8
White FR Rotary
White Vibrating Shuttle
Willcox & Gibbs Chainstitcher

And more to come. Have fun!
