Subject: Question for everyone

Hi all, and Happy New Year!
I was at a sewing group today and heard the oddest story from one of my
students... She was quilting on her FW and left her work in the machine, everything
still on, for around 30 minutes, or less. When she returned, the heat from
the light had burned a hole through the flannel back and cotton batting of her
quilt sandwich, and scorched the the quilt top!
I was surprised by this. Is anyone else surprised? Is this normal 'behavior'
for a light bulb??

Thanks,
Deb

HELLO JUDY HOWE:
Dave McCallum, here from Burlington Wa. Hi neighbor!
Packing your Featherweight. I don't remember the site with the instructions on
how to pack for shipment, but I'll tell you what I know.
First, over-pack it. You will never regret over-packing your Featherweight for
shipment.
Second. The sewing machine, in its' case, does not mean it is packed. The foot
pedal can be put under the arm of the machine as long as it is wrapped really well
and cannot move. Tight! If the machine is being sent in its' case, pack it with
foam rubber, bubble-wrap, news paper....but make it so it cannot move in the case.
Pack it tight. Soft-ball sized chunks of foam-rubber can be stuffed in and around
the machine easily and does a good job. But pack it in the case until it is full.
Third, If you are not shipping the machine in its' own case, remove the bobbin
winder and the spool pin/cover plate. These stick out at odd angles and invite
being removed in shipment without taking the screws out first. (I even remove
these parts if I am shipping the machine well packed in its' case.) Get a box a
good deal larger than needed. Put extra pieces of cardboard on the bottom, sides
and top. Write your address on the piece for the top. It might be inside the box
and I hope never seen, but write your address inside the box so it can be found.
Forth: If you are sending the machine in its' case, pack everything in a box
that is a good deal larger than the case, and put lots of packing around it.
Styro-foam sheet works well, foam rubber, bubble-wrap and lots of extra cardboard
slid down the sides. Go dumpster diving and you can find all kinds of packing. I
received a machine that was well packed within its' case, but the case was damaged
because it just fit the box it was being shipped in and the package was hit in
transit. Something that was a bit pointy went through the one layer of box
protecting the case and punctured the covering of the case and damaged the wood
under it.

I hope this helps. Just over-pack everything, and if it rattles when you are
done, you're not done.
