From: thebridgesofcasscounty@juno.com

Sounds like Patty is far too busy to appreciate the knowledge and
experience available no where outside this group of fantastic people.
Lighten up girl, slow down and smell the sewing machine oil. Life's too
short to be so uptight. Relax, make a quilt and tell us all about it and
the machine you made it on.

There were separate manuals for the white/green 221s and the Freearm
222s but other than that, any 221 manual will cover the standard
machine

Check the various manuals here

Most problems can be fixed at home -- please explain what's not
working correctly.

Subject: More information Re. Sewing Novel

 Yahoo! Clubs
vintagesingers , quite a few people who are familiar with commercial machines
hang out there.

 Smithsonian Institution
Libraries they have a whole lot of sewing related information, and check out
the "trading cards" for pictures of the factory workers. This will take you
several wonderful hours.

And if you want more, our own resident author, Alex Askaroff, who worked in
his family factory in England
sussexsewing home page

Have fun, learn lots, because there is nothing worst than making a mistake
and having 100 people who do know, calling that mistake to your attention.

PatBergman, who noticed a zipper in the back of a costume in a well known
play put on by supposed "professionals." And, yes, I did send a note backstage
telling them if they needed a zipper for a fast costume change, put something
on the zipper so it did not flash in the stage lights. When you know something
is wrong it just leaps out at you.

Happy New Year to all FW lovers, quilters and fabricoholics--I hope 2004
is good for all of you, and that you aren't too busy to read FWF
digests! I figure it takes me about 6 minutes a day, and it is so worth
it! If the day ever comes when I feel I am too busy to fit in 6 minutes
of fun, I'll know I need to reassess my life priorities!!

Subject: "Bad" links
Date: Sat, 3 Jan 2004 07:19:45 -0800

I thought it might be worth mentioning again about hyperlinks that
return an error msg to you--they aren't really "bad," they just have
extra characters. The latest one from Pat B is a good example: the
Cutter's Exchange. Both before and after the actual address are
extraneous characters, like "HREF" and quote marks and the name of the
company. This will give you a "page not found," but if you just click
in the URL and delete those characters, leaving just the site address,
and hit enter, you'll get the proper link.

I think this happens when we cut & paste an address, rather than type
it, but I'm not entirely sure. Anyway, I got to the Cutter's Exchange
site by typing www.cuttersexchange.com

Hi Everyone: I have just finished piecing, quilting, stippling. and
binding two small quilts all on my 222K I used warm and natural which
is less bulky than some quilting materials. It sewed like a dream and
never hesitated once. What a great machine!

AMEN !!!! What irks me ,is the space taken up by people

The following has several things that would apply to this digest
7,8 & 11,others do not. But to any of you who have belonged
to any organizations ,I think that you will agree with all .

12 Ways to Kill an Organization

1. Never to any of the meetings.
2. If you do go to a meeting, go late.
3. If the meeting date or time isn't convenient, don't even think of going.
4. If you do attend, find fault with the work of the officers.
5. Never accept an office. It is much easier to criticize than
    to help with projects.
6. Get sore if you are not appointed to a committee. Should
you be appointed, don't attend any of the committee meetings.
7. If asked to give your opinion on some matter, tell the
chairperson you have nothing to say. After the meeting,
tell everyone how it should be done.
8. Do nothing and never volunteer for any work. When
others roll up their sleeves and willingly and unselfishly
use their abilities and time to help matters along, howl
that the organization is run by a clique.
9. Don't pay your dues on time or don't pay them at all.
10. Make no efforts to get any new members.
11. If you have a good idea, keep it to yourself. You may
     need it sometime.
12. Complain that you never receive any benefits as a
member. If you do benefit, complain that you never
     got your money's worth.

Subject: Liza's Question

Hi everyone,

I'm new on this site and enjoying it and my featherweight very much. Liza, I
called the Singer number (I think it's 1-800-4Singer) and gave the operator
the serial number on the bottom of my machine. She told me the model number
(221) and also the date of manufacture - although I understand that it is only
approximate.
Because my machine is also missing the manual, I went to the Singer website -
just put "Singer Sewing Machine" in Google - and ordered a copy through them.
I hope that this is helpful. Happy New Year to all. Sally
