What is it?
This is a combination needle threader and buttonhole cutter.
221 feed dogs lowered
As the 221 does not have the ability to lower the feed dogs, my guess
would be that there is a "pad" of lint under the needle plate. There is
some chance tha the feed height eccentric could have come loose and need
adjustment.

Subject: 1/4" feet for FW
About the 1/4 " feet. I have a tendency to make my 1/4" seams too wide, so
am constantly on the watch for a foot that will help me. I have tried both
of the ones you asked about, the plastic and the metal. I have found that
the metal keeps me more in line and my blocks come out better using it.
By the way: Would Graham contact me please ? I have a little story that I
think would amuse him.

Vivian,
The tool you asked about is a seam ripper on one end and a needle
threader on the other. A Singer dealer told me that, but he was unable
to tell me when it was used or made. Guessing, I would say that dealer
was in his fifties and he could not remember ever having sold them.
Hope this helps you.

Anybody have a good solution for cleaning a black machine that has a build up of
old wax (or something else that is slightly gummy)? I have tried to clean it,
but I am afraid I will damage the decals if I use a strong cleaner on it.

Hi Fellow Fluffies
Carol that FW went for such an amazing price mainly because of the little
badge on the side. The 1836-1936 badge marks the machine as extremely unusual and
one of the most desirable of all the FW's. What 1836 has to do with Singer I
do not know perhaps someone can enlighten me was it more to do with the
exhibition? I know if I had it I would be stroking it every time I went by it. Mind
you the pills help!

I have two featherweight cords that have been taped with electrical tape and
would like to take them to a service person for replacement. Any suggestions
on what to ask for? Want them to be as much like original as possible. Also
wondering if anyone knows why one of my featherweight foot pedals is dark
brown instead of black? Thanks for your advice. I love this forum!

Subject: Knit fabric source

There are a number of fabric co-ops through Yahoo Groups. The oe name that
comes to mind is "Fabrics and Notions".
I get notices from the above, and it is a hoot---many, many messages(but you
can go Digest, Spec. Messages Only, or just read at the Yahoo site.
I've just been watching for now, but they (Ressy has the fabric part of
thisgroup) have listed some fabulous fabrics at fantastic prices.
Fabrics that I have seen range from baby rib knits, to silks, to silk knits
to tencel to stretch fabrics, and Liz Claiborne fabrics.
It is fast and furious when the fabrics are posted, but it's fun watching.

Since it was purchased by Featherweight Fanatic, there must be a reason
that it got such a high price. Can anyone fill us in? I had always heard
that my grandmother's machine, which I am currently using thanks to this
list (I am no longer afraid of ruining it and no longer consider it as
valuable as I had originally thought it might be) -- anyway, I had always
heard that it was worth upwards of $3,000. Now I know better. But I would
like to hear about the ones that are worth that much money and why they are
worth so much.
Thanks,
Joyce

Slightly OT: Benefit Concert for United We Quilt
Please excuse an OT post for a very good cause. On Saturday, February 28, 2004,
there will be a benefit jazz concert in New York City, for United We Quilt, the
organization which has matched over 500 bereaved 9/11 families with volunteer
quilters from all over the world, including several from this list. The
organizations’ founder, Jane Jackson, will be there, as will many of our
quilters and families. The concert, by Rick DellaRatta’s Jazz for Peace, will
be at 8 pm. For details and advance tickets, go to www.jazzforpeace.org. It
will be at Jazz on the Park, 36 W. 106th St. And for more information about
United We Quilt, please go to our website, www.unitedwequilt.org, or email me!
(And if you don’t live in New York, I hope you’ll pass this on to any friends
who do, and who are fans of jazz, quilts, and/or good causes!)

Wow that was quite a price to get for the Texas Centenial featherweight.
I also saw a "rare" featherweight walking foot. Was that a walking
foot that was sold just for the featherweight or as a foot for a low
shank machine like the featherweight? It sold for $200.00. I don't
believe I have ever seen one listed anywhere to my limited knowledge. =20

I, too, have a DressMaker. My model is S2400. I've had it for years.
It is a zig-zag machine & has cams for decorative stitches though I've
used them infrequently. It was made in Taiwan but has been a
workhorse. You're right, it's got a top to carry it in but it's very
heavy - I have mine set into a table made for portables but it stays
there except when I occasionally take it to be cleaned & oiled
professionally. Hope this helps you, Norma. ~GAquiltR~
