Subject: GE iron on ebay

Well Sylvia wanted to know about the GE travel iron shown by that very
inventive seller on ebay who writes pages of description about very common
items. I would never say she lies, she just waxes poetic and some chump
always falls for the drivel she puts out. I regularly sell these for
$35.00. They are better than the Rowenta irons that look the same plus its
fun to have the Vintage iron. GE is one of the best to find especially if
you can find the water bottle too. Now, I do sell more antique irons that
are folding but they are far older and are more collectable as to value so
cost a bit more even up to $100 if by names such as Singer. The Durabuilt
folding iron with a burgundy handle is also popular just because it looks
pretty. Kenmore had their own folding iron I also find with FW in the case
all wrapped up and ready to use. Many of us do use an older folding iron to
take with to class etc but....keep in mind you don't have to spend $100.00
and all that business about calibration etc is a bit much.....so what if it
was polished. The first time you use it, it get heat stained again. So take
care and enjoy ebay but don't believe everything you read without further
investigation and knowledge of the seller.

Subject: Sewing Sister Featherweight

There is a lady who lives on a delta here in California that puts out a
Featherweight quilt block that I have made up. She mails out quickly. The
pattern
goes together quite nicely, not to difficult. If you are interested Email me
off list and I will dig up her website. I think her name is something like
Christine Tresh(?), and she specializes in paper patterns.

Subject: Featherweight Iron question

Sylvia asked:Is there something about these irons that I don't know.

Yes, there is. What these advertisers call merchandising you and I would
call lying.

Your problem is that you do know, while these sellers are trolling for people
who do not know.

This seller hit all the high points. Quilters and Featherweight people, and
then just stand back and watch the dumb fish take the bait. It is people like
this that give Ebay a Bad reputation, but Hey! if Ebay doesn't care, and
they evidently don't, then I guess they like that bad reputation, just like in
Hollywood, any publicity in good publicity as long as they spell the name right.

Years a go I bought a very lightweight broom vac that Singer put their name
on. I had a joke going with Graham about how I could hype this item up on Ebay
by advertising it as a Singer Featherweight vacuum cleaner, and speculating
what I could get for it. However, I have no guts for the glory, and it still
sits in my sewing shed.

I also bought a home projector movie screen in a box, marked with the Singer
Logo. I don't know if these were commercially made and sold, or if this was
produced for Singer "in house" use.

I jokingly wrote to Graham that now I could lump the two items together and
advertise them on Ebay as the screen to show movies on of me, standing in front
of my Featherweight sewing machine, using my Featherweight vacuum cleaner.
It got sillier from there and we dropped it before it went out of sight.

Just in case you don't already know, Graham has a wonderful sense of humor.
My husband sometimes gets jealous because when I explain why I am laughing my
fool head off at the computer screen, he just can't get it, and there is no
way I can explain it to him.

If anyone knows where you can buy an oilcan (other than an
ourageously expensive vintage oilcan off eBay) to fit the clips in
the FW case, please write back. Thanks!

To Sylvia who wrote

>I have a question about the Authentic Quilter's Singer Featherweight
>Iron selling on eBay for over $100.00 all the time when it is the exact
>same GE iron found under travel irons for less than $10.00 =20
>Is there something about these irons that I don't know.

Nothing at all

If you dig deeply enough into the blurb I (and that takes some doing)
you'll find that the seller admits to inventing the term
"Featherweight Iron"

Anyone wanna buy a Featherweight Bridge?

Re trip to Amsterdam

Worth remembering that this is just a cab ride from Haarlem and the
De Viegler sewing machine museum.
