I have a question about the Authentic Quilter's Singer Featherweight
Iron selling on eBay for over $100.00 all the time when it is the exact
same GE iron found under travel irons for less than $10.00 =20
Is there something about these irons that I don't know.
Thank you
Sylvia

Date: Thu, 12 Feb 2004 09:28:46 -0000

My "Secret Sewing Sister" owns a Featherweight which belonged to her mother.
I would like to give her some fabric that has Featherweights on it or
something like that--any novelty fabric which pertains to antique sewing
machines, the word "Featherweight", or black Singer machines. Does anyone
know if there is any, and if there is, where can I buy it? I would like to
have this in time for her Mother's Day gift.

Any leads would be great!

Thank you,

Cindy G. Please return any suggestions to this email address:

To MJ Reuter who asked

None at all except that the 221K was made at Singer's largest factory
in Scotland

Possibly just his way of describing something which wasn't a shuttle machine.

To Debb who asked

>I just bought my first featherweight 221-1 (about 1955), (you notice I say
>my first). What my guestion is, what is the -1 for?

See above. It simply indicates it was the first of the 221
Featherweight types.

The first thing you should know about your trip to Amsterdam is: It's
the most beautiful time of the year to be going there. If at all
possible try to go to the " Keukenhof" and see the display of Tulips,
Daffodils, Crocus and Hyacinths. (A spring visit to Holland and the
Netherlands is not complete without a short excursion to the Keukenhof
gardens near Amsterdam. Keukenhof is the world's largest flower garden,
spread over 32-hectares and attracting over 800,000 visitors each year.
This number is very impressive since the gardens are only open for a few
weeks each year.) (open between 25 March- 20 May 2004).
The #2 thing to do (most visitors do), take a "Canal Tour", you'll get
to see the City from it's hundreds of waterways. Well worth it!
#3, don't go into any "Coffee Houses", you won't find coffee there just
drugs.
#4 Stay on the main streets and keep your $$$ inside a front pocket :)

Beside that, enjoy your trip and enjoy Holland. Everybody there speaks
English and the Dutch are very friendly people.

If you have any other questions, e-mail me direct. I spent many years
there.
