Subject: Singer Jamboree

 Hi Fluffies,
Bob Driscoll is in the process of moving to a new location just outside of
Salisbury MD. When he gets settled he plans on having a Get-together of all
interested Singer people to show and see all the machines we, and he, has.
I will keep you posted on the event and so will Bob. He hasn't set a firm
date yet.

OK folks how many of you ask the sellers on ebay questions like this?
 Q. YOU SAY IT WORKS. IS IT COMPETE WILL IT SEW?
A. it will sew.
Q. > I want us to be clear on this if I buy it and it won't sew, can I
return
it,
> as you say "
> " Due to the nature of this auction this item will be sold AS-IS."

A. pluged this item in and pushed the pedal and the sewing thing moved up
and
down. This item is being sold as is and I am not offering a refund.

This is the questions I ask him and that is his answer. And they wonder why
bidding is low on there items.
Lets hear from some of you out there about how you feel about questions you
ask and
what there answer's are.

I bought a featherweight "celery" from a private source who assured me
case was original. It is dark blue top, with aqua or lt. blue bottom.
Case has dark blue handle, two clasps, no lock. Inside a beige check
paper. I have seen (on ebay, current) only one like it. The seller from
GB states he had seen 2 or 3 like it. Does anyone know about this case.
Is it rare? I'm new to FW, only two, this one and a centennial.

Singer 99 power cord.
An educated guess would be that there is a short in the existing cord or
receptacle. Does the light burn? If so, the power is clearly getting
through, and the problem would be in the controller. If it's a nice
enough machine, or has sentimental value, it's easy enough to re-wire
these and bypass the old control and cord.

221K timing belt
I have a green 221k body with a good timing belt. This would be the only
alternative that I can think of.

Hi Feathers! --
Just a quick follow-up to my last post. Barbara, I tried to send you the
Featherweight Tables information directly, but my message was bounced. This is
probably because of my YAHOO! e-mail address. Sorry about that! The info. you
need is in the digest.
Thanks! -- Monica Ordas m_ordas_2002@yahoo.com

Subject: Source for Featherweight Reproduction Sewing Tables

Hello Feathers!
This is my first post to the digest, even though I have been reading and learning
so much for about a year and a half now. Barbara Coleman of Ft. Myers, FL posted
asking for a source for Reproduction Featherweight Card/Sewing Tables, and I was
able to pass on the contact information to a website that I had found some time
ago. I have not purchased anything from this business, but I thought that I would
post the information, just in case there are any other digest members that would
like to check it out.
Their website has a nice picture of the tables that they offer, with a FW sewing
machine set in, so that you can see how everything goes together. The business
is:

If for any reason you can't follow the link that I have posted, just key in
"Bolines at Indian Creek" in the YAHOO! search box, and it should come right up!
Hope this helps, and I would be interested in any opinions of their products from
other members.

Steve had this to say.
Don't expect a miracle for $15.00. When we had a shop, we found that
we had to average $65.00 per machine to profitably keep the doors open.

I 'm going to open a sewing machine repair shop first thing this next week.
I can tell from this that I"m in the worng business

Sorry, but I don't see how a loose connection at the foot controller
can affect the lamp in anyway. Power to the lamp doesn't go through
the controller at all -- you could remove both its wires and the lamp
will still operate.

I repeat, please check the fit of the bulb. and for safety's sake
the interior wiring on the machine

I do have one but are you sure you really need it -- in all my years
with these machines I've never seen one that required a replacement
belt.

Hello All...

Gerald asked "is there any way to speed up a 201?"

Convert it to the British belt driven version (201K?)
and put either a 8000 rpm domestic motor on it or
go whole hog and get an industrial clutch type motor
and stand. Or buy a good used Singer 20U with stand
and motor...

BeBe asked about a carry case for a White Featherweight.
We sell a green reproduction case - email me for details...

Carol asked about using a 221 Walking Foot on a 201.
Sure, I use mine with my 201 all the time for grid
quilting and stitch-in-the-ditch...

Hi All
I have to agree with Steve about shops. Most shops that have been around with
the same owners for a long time survive by offering a service the public
wants. A happy customer will come back time and time again.

Not all shops are bad not all shops are good but I bet if you got ripped off
you never went back!

Also there are some sewing machine problems that do need expert fingers to
get right. Any of you that have sewn on a machine that is not functioning
properly know how maddening it is. I did actually meet a person who threw their
sewing machine out a window, nasty.

To Joyce, with 99 that you can't get power to.
I had a similar situation and took the opportunity to convert the machine to
a hand crank. It work great that way.
