Have a question in regard to the repair of the wiring for the foot control.
My 301 has the 2 wires set coming from the 3 prong plug in on the R side
of the machine. The one wire goes to the electrical outlet the other to
the foot controller. When last using the machine I noticed the wire almost
totally broke just outside the foot controller. When I went to repair the
wire, I found the insulation covering each individual wire was cracked and
decided new wire was needed. Now for my questions about making this repair.
1) Part of the wire inside the foot controller appeared to be a heat
resistant type wire. Do I need to replace this portion with a heat
resistant wire?
2) Do I solder this onto the other wire?
3) At the other end, where the plug fits onto the 3 prongs, do those 3 brass
tubes that fit over the prongs protrude out about 1/8" or should they be
flush to the outside of the plug.
4) Do those wires go back into the plug in a particular order?
Unfortunately, I asked a friends DH about using a soldering iron and he
grabbed the unit and said he would fix it, that I didn't need to help. I
don't think he has it together correctly and he left extra wire inside the
foot controller. I'm afraid to plug it in before I check with this
knowledgeable group.
I would appreciate either an answer or a web site that could tell me how to
get it together correctly. Thanks

I have dropped the feed dogs and done free motion quilting and
embroidery on my 201. It took some getting used to. I do think that
all machines have a different feel to them. I enjoyed it, once I
adjusted to the power of the 201. They are true work horses! My Viking
550 has a variable three speed motor. The 201 has two as well, fast and
faster! : ) Once I got the hang of it, it went beautifully. I used a
variegated Sulky Rayon. The thread broke a couple of times, but it
would probably have done so on any machine. I don't recall which needle
I used, but go with whatever you would use in one of the current
machines.
Try it, what have you got to lose?
My 201 is a Centennial, 1951, with a spoked wheel and a German add-on
motor. The German motor is superb, with typical German power and
precision, just like they make their automobiles!
