Subject: rumour has it. (fwd)

Rumour has it that there is a government warehouse
that has slews of these "crinkle/matte" finished
featherweights. If you can get access to government
sales, you might want to check out the "cheap" never
been used crinkle machines.

Dear featherweight fanatic,

I have a featherweight in great shape makde in 1956. I would like to trade it for an industrial sewing machine, so that I can do upholstery.
Do you have any advice?

Subject: Re: SW Ont. mini gathering

Hi everyone:

Plans are progressing for the mini gathering to be held in St. Thomas, ON
on October 23rd. That's the confirmed date now. We hope to gather at our
house in the a.m. for coffee/muffins and gabbing! In the afternoon, we are
going to Nick and Jessie Jonkman's sewing machine museum in the basement of
his house. They have a lot of very old machines and a lot of sewing
collectables...and we'll be doing more gabbing, of course.

Are there any Americans who are near enough to join us? We are
approximately half way between Buffalo and Detroit...it would a lovely
drive. And, if you live across the lake, we're very close to Port
Stanley...you can swim!! :-)

Subject: Singer

I just got a Singer from maybe the 30's or 40's...I don't know what it
is, I sent in the form but I realy didn't know what to give for answers.
It's a fibre board case, tan & brown all black, Model Number (I think)
AM53383 Catalog # RF55-8 made in Canada. I'd like to know more about and
find a manual for it. It may not be a Feather weight, I don't know what
that is. It is in MINT condition and works.

Thank You
Steven Burr

Subject: IT"S ON FIRE!!!!!!
From: "Juno Redleaf/TR Kelley"

hi all!
well hope all of you that had hurricane damage are ok. we've got a
different problem out here, fire. as some of you may know i live way up in
the woods in west central oregon. yesterday afternoon a forest fire started
about 4 miles east of here, and overnight it has grown and spread. although
we have fire teams from all over the county working on it, it is not
contained, and there is a possibility i may have to evacuate. these
situations make you take stock quickly: what is important and what would fit
in my car. it's an old volvo wagon with a roof rack, so i can fit just about
everything i own in it or on it....what to take? the usual, suitcase of
photos and important papers, dog and 4 cats, cedar chest containing
cherished items including a funeral urn.... ok then what??? my $2000 bass
guitar is about the only thing of real value here oh and of *course* my
Singer featherweight!!!.
an armful of clothes, a box of fabric, a box of important books, our
open-pollinated and heirloom vegetable and fruit seeds (Y2K insurance!)
toolbox, chainsaw, this computer..... would have to leave my White rotary
treadle, my antique piano and a lot of other stuff. would try and take my
tropical fish packed in 5-gallon buckets and have them held safely at the
fish store....refugee fish!
i'm glad i have pared down my life so much that possessions aren't as big a
burden as they could be and ARE to a lot of people.
the air is thick and choking, the sun is orange. the animals are staying
close, they know something's up. will let you know how it comes out!

I went to the quilt show in Longmont, Colorado this past weekend. I saw a
few featherweights for sale with most prices around $550. These machines
were not, what I would consider, in cosmetically good condition. I got to
see the reproduction table and case Andy Fields makes. He really does a
wonderful job on them and is also a very nice man. My friend has her
grandmothers featherweight. Her attachments came in a metal box with the
word singer on top. If any one has one of these for sale, please e-mail
privately. Lynn in Colorado Springs where it snowed yesterday and is
beautiful and sunny today. e-mail address lynndea1@aol.com

Subject: Seen in the latest NordicNeedle Catalog

I know that most of out members are multitalented. If one of your many
talents includes counted thread embroidery you might want to look on page 17
of the Fall 99 Nordic Needle catalog. There is a design for what looks like
a Singer 201 by Sue Hillis and another by Stoney Creek for a treadle head
that looks like my 27. Their web page is www.nordicneedle.com

Hi Carla and other fanatics!

The red FW belongs to Bob Bannen in Canada.. and no, it wasn't done in an
auto body shop. He did it himself!
He has pictures on his website.....

Subject: tension troubles

Hi, It's Di again, still trying to adjust my 128 handcrank. Linda Harris suggested I try Singer needles instead of the Schmetz that I was using, and it helped a great deal. (Thanks, Linda!) However, I still can't tighten the top thread tension enough to get a correct stitch. It's tightened as tight as I can get it by hand tightening, but needs a bit more. I wonder if I need to replace something in the tension assembly??? Do the springy thingies wear out? Bewildered, Di
