Dear fws; finally home, the last two weeks have been frantic, we took the whole family to dearborn last weekend, to henry ford museum. MY six year old, loved it, the train and guess it, when we went near the excellent display of sewing machines, both mother and daughter said dad havent we seen enough old sewing machines , so i was out voted. I want to apologize to any one waiting for orders actually not that bad behind but the repair business in the shop exploded the last two weeks overwhelming me, so i was caught. Over 50 repairs came in two weeks, so why did i travel over 140 miles up north and leave the shop to sell sewing machines in northern ontario dont ask me why. We did very well, and now we are finally home, as of last night, so dear fws we are back to work.

Now we have to start restoring some machines and getting some stuff ready for the forsale page thank you for your understanding mikeh

Subject: Singer treadle
From: "mary richards"

I attended an auction at a farm in rural Ohio today. Gorgeous day, beatiful
setting. There I spotted a Singer treadle machine that was in perfect shape.
The cabinet was beautiful and the machine with red and gold scrollwork on
the body was just perfect. Inside one of the drawers was the original
manual, a small green paper book with a copyright of 1920. I think it was a
Singer model 66 ( not sure of the number but I am sure it was 60 something,
maybe 62) you know how you are sure you will remember!!! I bid on it with
very little enthusiasm because I really don't want to begin collecting
these, I know how addictive it can become......it went for $75.00 and not to
me, but I wondered if that was a fair price. I know virtually nothing about
treadles except what I read on this list, which incidentally, I love to
read. If anyone knows anything about that machine could you tell me?
Thanks, mary

I just want to publicly acknowledge Glenn GWillie@aol.com for the wonderful and working information he was able to give me in removing a odor from my FW case. The case was unusable and would be still without his help. I can't say enough good things, This FW group of people are great. Gayle

Hi everyone,

Did you all see what the Godzilla (Crinkle paint) Featherweight went for?
Can you believe $3000?

Does anyone know how many of those were made? I'd love to hear a bit about
the history of it and any other information out there? Do we have any idea
how many are still around? They seem so unbelievably rare.

Please post to the list as I think others would be interested in hearing
about it as well.

>> I am not familiar with. No pictures of a 328. so I went on Yahoo and posted my problem and Woodenspools posted a picture from her archives, not only showing the machine, but the retail price at the time. >>

Hi Pat,

I have a 328. It's a nice little machine, but a bit noiser as compared to
some other machines, but it doesn't make horrible noises. It's not a real
light weight either. It does have some nice features like: the option of
doing some other stitches via cams, 3 needle positions and a built in
zigzag.

I was offering mine 4sale for $80, but had no takers FWIW. It's not a bad
machine.

How nice of Woodenspools! So...what was the price of it in it's day?

Subject: W&W cabinet

Hi guys,
We checked out a couple auctions today, but they didn't live up to their
promises (or our hopes!).
One had listed a treadle sewing machine, also a card table & a sewing case.
The wheels were turning, but....no luck.
The treadle machine turned out to be a W&W cabinet which had been modified
for an electric Household machine including screwing an electrical outlet to
the top to the right of the machine. :-((
It was ( or had been) a beautiful cabinet, but the coffin top was nowhere in
sight & it wouldn't have fit over the 'new' machine head. There were 6
drawers; the top 2 were shallow. There was no center drawer, but instead had
a row of little spindles. They had large copper (?) drawer back plates &
pulls. There was a flip over leather insert extension on the left side
(somewhat beat up). The foot pedal & drive wheel on the base had been
removed also. :-((
High on the frame under the cabinet was the gold lettering in good condition
identifying it as a W & W etc. (the only reason I knew what it _should_ have
been.)
The other kicker was that in one of the drawers was a nice shiney bobbin case
for a W&W & a few extra bobbins & a fancy little SM key. But no W& W in
sight either. :-(( It was hard to leave it, but we did.

BTW on the way home from our trip I rescued a manual for a 40's (?) electric
class 15 rotary Dressmaker machine from a furniture restorer if anyone is
interested. He was remaking the cabinet into something more "useful"
(saleable) & junking the head. Interestingly, it's sort of a generic manual
since it has no trade name identifying it as for a Dressmaker.

Subject: Toy Sewing Machine

I have a toy sewing machine that Santa brought me more years ago than I care to remember. It is rusty on the shiny parts, the decal is partly gone and the tension is bent.
Does anyone know how to restore these? Thanks for any help you offer.
