Graham Cresswell kindly referred y'all to Glenn
Williams for FW care maintenance, but had his
address a little off. It's GWillie37@aol.com
I've bought a machine from Glenn, and many
parts, and he's spiffed up a couple of my cases
beyond belief. Just tell him what you need.
Another great resource is Chris at Stepping Stones
71155.1072@compuserve.com
I just picked up some scarce needles, bobbin tires,
and a handcrank fix from him at an area quilt show,
and hung around to listen to his FW history lecture
where I learned even more.
I wholeheartedly recommend both of these sources
as sellers, fixers, and helpers of FWs and more.

Subject: Re: SW Ont. Mini gathering

Hi all:

There is a new date for the gathering of "sewing machine enthusiasts" in SW
Ontario. We had hoped to get together in September yet, but this was not
working out. The new date is SATURDAY OCT. 23. Any one wishing to attend
may contact us. We hope to get together in St. Thomas in the morning for a
time of swapping stories, ideas, parts, machines, etc. Then possibly visit
a local museum to see some early sewing machines and artifacts. In the
afternoon we hope to head to Wyoming Ont. to go to see Nick Jonkman's
private collection of sewing machines etc. Nick is fast becoming an
authority on the history of Canadian sewing machines and manufacturers.
All are welcome! Just let us know and we'll send you the complete details
as they are confirmed.

Jake and Jacqui in Canada.

Subject: New (old) FW owner

Hello everyone!
I am a new member, and a recent returnee to FW ownership. Well...I don't
have it yet, but I have my fingers crossed. Hopefully this week.
I learned to sew on my Mother's FW about 33 years ago. I made a lot of my
own clothes during Junior High, High School, and beyond. A few years ago,
Mom informed me that she THREW IT OUT. The belt broke, she said, and she
assumed she couldn't get parts. I have never really gotten over this. So
just recently, I started researching Featherweights again. I expect to
have one shortly. I tried to get one around the same age as mom's. I
never noticed the details about it until I started my research. I'm sure
it had the scrollwork, but it didn't have any silver on the handwheel.
Anyway, mine is a little older than that, I guess, because it had silver on
the handwheel. Theoretically, it's birthdate is 6/4/46.
Have no idea what kind of shape it is in. I'm getting oil and lubricant,
but have further questions about cleaning it up. I hope you won't mind me
asking them here.
What is your favorite way to clean the black finish? I've heard mild soap
and water (like Dawn), followed by wax. What kind of wax?
How should I clean the metal parts of the machine (throat plate, end plate,
etc.)?
What should I do to spruce up accessories (presser feet, ruffler, buttonholer, etc.)?
I think my case is quite scuffed, but intact. Is Armor-All really OK to use?
I *do* have the Nancy Johnson-Srebro book, so I have some information, but
I'd love to hear your experiences.
Thanks for letting me run on and on.

Subject: Missing a part

Dear fellow FW lovers,
I am on cloud 9 since I found my FW 221. It is a total dream to sew
piecework on. I was disappointed to find it is missing a tension number
disk where you adjust the tension. Does anyone out there know where
I can get one or have one off a nonfunctioning machine they will sell
me???

Please help. I want to have my machine complete.

Subject: 1998 FWF State Block Challenge

Greetings!! I'm sure many of you will recall the FWF challenge held last
year where 50 blocks were embroidered with state flowers and the name of
a volunteer was drawn to win all 50 blocks. Well, the jpgs of the blocks
have been on my web site for some time now and I am going to be removing
them in the near future and wanted anyone who had not yet seen the
lovely blocks to take this opportunity to check them out. And perhaps
once our winner, Julia McPheeters of Alabama, has put together her
quilt, we can show you the finished result from the efforts of many.
Thanks, Millie

Just had to share this with all of you. We were coming back from a wedding
in Atlanta on Sunday, and decided to hit all the Antique Malls on the way
back to Tennessee - and there's a lot of them! We went into one and right
away spotted a Centennial 221 - the bed was missing most of its finish, and
the machine was pretty grimy. A tag was attached, and on it was written:
Featherweight Sewing Machine. Centennial Model. This is 1 of only 100
manufactured in 1951. Can you believe it? And it was priced at $550!

Can you tell me if anyone makes replacement hardware for the featherweight
sewing table? I just broke my wife's.

Thanks,

Subject: Quarter Inch Foot

I bought the Quarter Inch foot that is made for the White sewing
machine. Works perfectly and cost somewhere around $6.00. I got the
tip from someone on this list.

During a recent visit to beautiful British Columbia we only saw one Featherweight and it was 222. The price was 1/2 or more less than I have seen on Ebay or the for sale list. Brought that baby home. Man, I am doing the happy dance!
