I want to thank everybody who responded to my request for a FW bobbin case. I was amazed at the number of messages; what a great group this is. I purchased one from a person with whom I'd done business previously.

I haven't posted about my recent finds - two FW's, one for $125 which is the one for which I needed the bobbin case, but that was still a good deal. Then I saw one in an antique store which was marked $285 but he sold it to me for $225. I know why he was eager to get rid of it, too. When I got it home, I discovered an enormous thread jam. But I wasn't dismayed because of this list. I knew I had to just be patient and with tweezers I got all of it put, little by little. Now it sews very nicely. In fact, both of the machines do. I'd say, in appearance, they are about a 7 but, using Graham's scale, that isn't bad.

We're leaving for a weekend trip tomorrow, way up to the tip of the Keewenaw Peninsula which extends into Lake Superior - the town is Copper Harbor. Who knows what we may find in antique shops along the way.
Marge, from Menominee, Michigan.

Is the Sew Handy machines made by Singer considered a toy machine? I
thought it was just smaller than a full sized head.

Bob,
Can you give us an address for the Vermont store that has the Fels Napa soap?

I just bought a gorgeous 15-30 which unfortunately
arrived without its bobbin case. Does anyone know
where and how I can acquire one?

Thanks,

Hi All...

Just to let you know that all is well here. Connie and I
decided to wait 'till yesterday AM to make our decision
on whether to evacuate or not. This was based on the
news that since the entire coast line from mid-Florida
to the Carolinas was under mandatory evacuation, the
roadways were in grid lock. Travel time from Charleston
NC to Columbia, normally a 3 hr drive, took 15... And
I-10 from Tallahassee to Jacksonville FL has no fuel.

And now it's all in reversal as everyone wants to leave
the shelters and come home!

Anyway, we boarded up our quilt shop Tuesday AM and
went home to wait it out. Got a little hairy that evening
just not knowing what was going to happen. We went
down to the Village and around the island. There was
hardly anyone here! 16,000 people All Gone! Eerie.

Thanks to all who emailed their concerns and now to
unboard and unpack. Anyone want to help restocking
the 1200 bolts we put up off the floor?

Chris on St. Simons Is., GA where our prayers are
for family and friends in the Carolinas.

Subject: Re:New with question

Hi,
I am new to this list too. My first FW 221-1 is just super! One question I
have is that it leaks oil from the bottom. I have not oiled it yet myself
and I am wondering if the last owner may have possibly over lubricated it.
Is this possible or do I have a major problem here?
I also have another old singer in a bentwood case that is a portable, but
heavy! I would like to find out what model number it may be. How should I
go about finding out what I've got here.
BTW, I just love the stories that the gent who repairs machines shares on the
list! They really make my day. Thanks.
Tammy

Good Morning All...

Can someone tell me exactly what the difference is between a 221 and a 221-1? I have one of each and they sure look identical to me....only difference is the
gold medallion. The 221 has 221- on the bottom of the medallion and the other,
which is the 221-1 doesn't. Is there really any difference at all? Plus, is
there a way to stop the clickity, clackity from the spool when the machine is in use? Both of mine do it and drives me nuts. They sew beautifully, just clickity clack like heck when I'm going at high speed!

Thanks for any help,
Cathy
