Subject: Greenhouse Effect from FQ500?
E-mail Address: creinke@mindspring.com

Ohhh, I just had a terrible thought last night. Of course my DH has all our biochem books at work, so I couldn't research it. Is all this exercise & fat burning we are doing adding to the greenhouse effect?!?!? Seems to me when we metabolize, we give off CO2 (carbon dioxide). Do we need pollution control devices?

To my sponsorees - keep up the good work - Go Cher, Go Kathy, Go Janice, Go Lisa!!!

Ilona - stairs are wonderful exercise! Going up burns many more calories than flat walking, and going down exercises little used muscles. Keep it up.

Cindy R. in AL - whose science background may be the end (bad pun) of her.

Hey, Group, you've got a LOONg ways to go to catch up with the Loon. Doesn't matter whether the weather is fair or fowl, she's been sooo busy pond-ering the vicissitudes of life it nearly drained her brain (which would result in the pond becoming a swamp land, except when it's cold enough to freeze over -- cryogenics?)

Huh? If that doesn't make sense you need to think as Hard as the Loon, who's thought her way to (drum roll puhleeze) 67 miles so far! While the brain cells are regenerating she can get caught up on her feather preening in a LOONg hot bath. Only 9 miles credit so far there. Could use a lil more hygienic hi-jinx. Don't read that as an invitation to go soak your head, howsomever.

Good Morning all!
Jeanne in Ct - You really bowled me over with your 2 hours of exercise! Bet you don't have any FQs, or if you do, they will be gone soon. Keep it up gal, hop, hop, hop....
I am so envious - The Door Mouse in Bettsville. I really must call some friend or other and make a trip up there - it can't be that far from me - maybe 60 - 70 miles, but I have never been there and keep hearing about it....you won't think of me while you are there, will you???? Didn't think so.
I saw Simply Quilts yesterday - she had the Houston Quilt Show on it - I looked for YYYs - didn't see any. That was an interesting show about the Japanese stitching, but doubt if I would try it or make that tote bag - but was interesting.
Pauline in Id - Thought about you ladies up there and especially you, as you mention your horse off and on in this BB, when I saw the Weather Channel last night. Wondered if you were getting the snow, but guess not, as you say somewhere else in ID got it.
Good Gravy!!!!! Sheryl is an inspiration! I may even push myself more than the walking I usually do today. 41 miles is a good hike so far....
Cassi - I am glad to hear that you got some help with those costumes - last I remember you had volunteered, but you didn't mention anyone helping you. That sounds good - the costume fitting all but a bit on the side seams. I bet you feel so much better, losing 25 lbs is a lot of determination....every day - GOOD FOR YOU!!!
Sounds like that serger is humming along good. Didn't you just buy that a few months ago?
Pat in MI - I made a Sunbonnet Sue quilt for my youngest GD. I was so sick of her when I got it done. No more for me. That is the same with pink colors in a quilt. I made 2 pink quilts for the other 2 GDs and was soooooo sick of pink when I got them done, too. I use pink only when I HAVE TO.
June - my daughter made Baklava about 5 years ago for her office Christmas party. Oh, it was soooo rich, and soooo good. I haven't had it since. I am making a pumpkin cream roll today out of the Better Homes and Gardens cookbook. It is for a bake sale Sat. I will make the roll today, freeze it and fill it Friday evening. I felt that was fitting for a pre-Thanksgiving Bake Sale.
Going to leave and get onto my list of things to do today and pour me a second cup of coffee to swizzle whilst I dood dem thangs. Ilona in cool, sunny, dry Ohio

Subject: Baklava!!
E-mail Address: jkerss@naxs.com

Utterly sinful!! Not intended for those who intend to win the FQ race!! It is a Greek delicacy; starts with Phylo dough (can sometimes be found in freezer case); rich filling of honey, ground nuts, butter, cloves, cinnamon, sugar. Oh my!! What delight just thinking about it!!
Phylo is thin, thin, thin; must be kept cool while making up the baklava. 5 sheets to a layer, generously spread with butter and filling; keep layering until all is used. It is then cut into diamond shapes and topped with a whole clove. The final step after baking is to pour hot syrup over the baklava. It takes a very large pan which should match the size of the phylo leaves.
My Greek friend gave me the recipe. If you really want to make baklava e-mail me and I will send the recipe. I generally spend the best part of a morning (+) to get it all together and make it. Beware!! It's like a box of chocolates -- or a can of those chips -- one is not enough!!

Hope everyone is doing well today -- plan to start on embroidering all the towels I have bought as Christmas gifts for friends (not by hand!!) Deco 600 is wonderful for special gifts.
I do towels, napkins, kitchen towels, pillow cases and sheets, sweat shirts, blouses, and anything else that looks creative! Will these qualify as a "Snoopy" dance??

(((hugs)) to all, and Cheerio - June

I managed another hour of walking last night, so only 490 miles to Paducah. Still haven't gotten on the Cardioglide, but maybe today.....

Thanks to all 15 people who sent me Bertie's addy, I hope I replied to all of you individually, but I just got home from work and I'm not the sharpest tool in the box right now, lol.

Agnes, I can hardly wait to see your Sunbonnet Sue Stack n Whack--always hated her, and I'm imagining her decapitated in one block, tiny severed arms and legs in others.....Lovely!

Still busy trying to finish up projects, but of course keep starting new ones!

MINOR WOODSTOCK WIGGLE...I got far enough on one of the dance costumes to have the girl come over and try it on, and wonder of wonders, it actually fits with just a minor taking in on the side seams! I'm so impressed with myself! This is a leotard with a built-in shelf bra, insets for the yoke and a stand up collar and an attached chiffon skirt (haven't gotten to attaching the skirt part yet. Since I haven't done anything like this before, I'm pretty impressed with myself. Now that I've done one, and figured out what parts are sewn on the serger and what parts aren't, I'll be able to make progress on the remaining six I have to do. Several of the dance moms are going to come over after Thanksgiving to do the cutting, so I'll be able to assembly line a lot of this!

ANOTHER MINOR WOODSTOCK WIGGLE....Just Me Sue brought me some fleece and a pattern for a pullover. I cut it out yesterday afternoon and sewed the major parts together last night. I just need to do the hemming on the bottom, sleeves and turnover collar and it will be done! I forgot that I had lost weight (25 pounds so far, since Ohio 99!) and cut out a size too large, but the serger just whacked off that extra bulk in seconds! Wish I could whack the extra bulk off my body as quickly!!!!

SARAH IN ALABAMA....I'm your sponsor (Go Sarah, Go Sarah) so let me know how far you've gone already. Haven't scrolled back to double check Bertie's list, but I don't remember seeing whether you're walking, riding, etc.

MARLENE IN NNY: I've done 2 miles as of Sunday (I'm reporting in on Sundays, since that's my "day of rest"). I think that got me to Just Me Sue's house, and then maybe to Bev's. YIKES....I'm not even out of West Chester yet!!!! It'll be a LOOOOONNNNGGGGG trip to northern New York!

NO DARKER THAN SAND PROJECT ..... Completed blocks have been turned in by Marty, Lois, Brenda and me. They're looking great!!!! Marty's package reminded me to tell you to include $4 to cover mailing the blocks back to all of you. Lois and Marty both sent their blocks in the Priority Mail box you get free from the post office. For $3.20 in postage, you can stuff as much as you can get into the box. We will enclose the blocks in ziplock bags. Hope rounding the price up to $4 is okay with everyone, since right now is too soon to figure out the cost down to the penny.

Just discovered DD is home sick. DH is up with her in the early morning hours (she leaves for school at 6:45) so I never know when he's decided to send her back to bed. I know she wasn't feeling very good yesterday, so I'm not surprised. But I do wonder how long it would have taken for me to figure out she was in the house if DS hadn't asked why her bedroom door is closed LOL!

The days are definitely getting colder...still dry and sunny, though!

CINDY best of luck!
Go Deanna! Go Deanna! Go Terter! Go Terter! Must keep my sponsorees motivated. I will send a FQ for every 20 miles because I am so easy!!
Remember that I have a lot of snail mail addys and fabric preferences. I am a good resource for the sponsors out there. Try me, I might have the information you need. I am the unofficial Directory Assistance of the BB!
DH is flying out of SeaTac at 6:30 am and guess who has to leave the house at 4:30 to get him to the airport? DD? NOT! He asked her but she said NO!. Poor old mom will have to do it. I'll remember her on Christmas. Not! He will be gone until Monday afternoon. Deanna is staying on Friday night, so it's popcorn, a movie and coffee. I really think chocolate should make an appearance.
I have done 2 more miles. At 4 miles a week, it will take me to till the middle of forever to get to 500. Feet don't fail me now!
I hope all the Sues out there weren't traumatized by the stacking and whacking. Would like to see a finished block. I can't imagine she would look good.
Terter congratulations to your DS, I am sure you are very proud (and a little scared, I was).
Sandi all the new people got the Wuerzburg Creeping Crud when they moved to Germany. After the first year we didn't get it anymore. The new folks would get so sick. Didn't know anyone else used that term, creeping crud. LOL! (not a laughing matter!)
Well, I must keep myself awake for another 2 1/2 hours. Can't sleep and get up that early, so I will stay up. Ebay is always fun to peruse.
Take care and may God bless you and yours!

Hey Dot if you are sponsoring me would you get in touch so I can post my miles to you. I have decided that my 500 mile ride should be to Reno NV for the AQS show in June. It is about 500 miles from here give or take a few miles. Should be an interesting ride. If anyone goes there next year look for a grey horse with a large yellow YY around his neck. I'll keep it there so if you see us on the road give a holler. Guess what? Sunny and Warm Idah o just got cold and rainy. Woke up this am to rain on the roof and mud in the corrals. Makes for a sloppy feeding time but I guess we need it. Worked on my EQ program today. Designed two more quilts. Sure wish I had time to make all the quilts you can design with that program. Better toddle off to bed. It is still raining a little. Should stop tomarrow and clear up until the next day. They said it snowed 4" atBogus Basin during the night. All the skiers are happy, hoping for a Thanksgiving opening. Later all, Pauline in Id. Does anyone have Berties addy? If so would you email it to me. Or at least contact me and I will let you know my addy so you can send it to me.

A friend who has never sewn a stitch in her life (okay, perhaps she has sewn on a button or two) is going with me tomorrow to The Door Mouse in Bettsville, Ohio, a fabric shop with 9,000 bolts on the shelves. Anyone wanna take any bets on whether or not she succumbs to the lure of all that fabric? (I have already made her one couch quilt and she knows my limit of one quilt per friend so she better not go into a pathetic begging act for another quilt from moi.) What would Dr. Ruth call me for taking a novice to such a tempting place? On second thought, don't answer that, Dr. Ruth.

I read you all everyday, just lurking here. I never did enter the FQ500. I walk around the house (I have a big house, large rooms) for 15 minutes each time, at least once a day. It isn't much, but helps. I don't like the streets and hard concrete, so I walk with DH in the asphalt alleys and the dogs bark, bark, bark at us. Large dogs make me nervous. I walk with him, but not on my own. I get a lot of exercise at work, going up and down the stairs. I need to get a treadmill.
I am going to a Christmas workshop this Saturday, all day, that my guild is having. We are going to do a wallhanging of folded stars - mariner's compass. It is a larger one and therefore easy, but the points are partly folded. Anyways, I am not going to have another wallhanging - have too many now!!! I will eliminate the bottom and make a pillow out of the top. It will be lovely and am looking forward to the fun with all the other women. That is mainly why I go - the company!!!!
Cindy - Good luck!!!
Terter - Sounds like you have a good 'un there - you better hang onto him!!!
I wondered back there in ancient postings about chocolate, too, and nursing babies - love that stuff!!! Anyways, I would always get a gift of chocolates when I had my little babes and nursed. The nurses would pester me about eating chocolates. So I would put the chocolates away until I got home. They also didn't like women who nursed back then. They would give us a hard time. Seems that nursing babies needed to be fed oftener, (I always fed mine every two hours after I got them home) and they just complained to me all the time about how MY baby cried and cried and cried. According to them, mine was the only one who did. I knew what the problem was when I got the first one home. She was hungry every 2 hours! She didn't have the fat from a formula and therefore it didn't stay in her tummy as long as a formula. After that I just ignored the staff, took my baby home and fed her, then later on "him", every 2 hours and all was well with them. Times have changed now, I hear and nursing is accepted, but not in the 60s!!!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!! Ilona in cool Ohio, but sunny.....everyday....

Ruth, I can't stop laughing over your latest list of funnies!! Hey, lauging burns calories, too!! A friend of mine wants to sell a large amount of stuff from her late mother's house. It includes some great wools, cottons, embroidery stuff, etc. from many years back, 40's, 50's etc. I gave her the Classified's url - can anyone think of a better way to sell these things? Ebay is kind of a nuisance with all the fussing with fancy pictures and filling out of forms, etc. The Quiltmaker's Gift is a WONDERFUL book - I know, I said that before, but would love to buy a copy for everyone I know! At http://www.calicofabric.com
they are offering free shipping of orders for anyone who buys it. I went there in MA for mine. Yay Ronna, you did the block!! We saw a neat quilt with the Maple Leaf block at the Quechee quiltshow in VT - I wanna see it!! Hope you're feeling good enough to go out and see the meteors TONIGHT!!! I've already forgotten who went to the job interview, but good luck! Hey, if they don't hire you, why not get a job at the fabric shop? I must be getting old or something, because my nephew's wife had a baby this week and I didn't make him a quilt. Actually, I was hoping my sister would do it this time, because I made one for their first child. So many babies - so little time! Lynn in southern VT where we only got flurries so far!

Linda in CA - know all about relatives & memory quilts - they are the last to get the blocks done - friends do them much faster - (LOL)! I coordinated a memory quilt for my DM, and one of my cousins - a quilter no less - didn't get her's in until after the quilt was all done - appliqued it to the center of the back - so it all worked out! (LOL)

My interview went very well, may know by the end of the week. Also stopped by another contact, and was told I was first on the list when their positions come through (gov't contract) by the first of the year. Then I stopped by the quilt shops, no S.E.X., but did get a couple lovely patterns at 30% off. When I got home I had a call from a headhunter - so my spirits are high. My DH took me out for double mocha. Since I didn't get my walking in today, I suspect my FQs are going the wrong way - (LOL)!

Ohh Ronna, I must burn all sorts of calories - I am a world class "twitcher" (my DH's description) - I cannot sit still - but that means I get my quilting done faster, since I need something in my hands to keep me from twitching - (LOL)!!

Have you noticed I get VERY chatty when I'm in good spirits (LOL)?

Hello, thought I would post a quick message to say I hope everyone is doing well and making better progress this week on quilting than I am! It seems last week all my quilting projects for christmas were moving soooo well, then this week so far has been the pits, if you know what I mean? Everything I stitch has to be pulled out, can't seem to keep my mind focused on what I am doing !!!! Finally, I decided to leave it be for awhile and try again later, that sometimes helps me, gives me time to re group on my thoughts !!

My DH and I are still taking one day at a time and I appreciate all of your concerns and prayers, I did post an update on the prayer section if anyone wants to know about his Duke Medical appointment on Monday ! Thanks to all of you !!

Julie in GA. where are you ? I have an email on hold to you and can't get your abby, lost the one I had !!! A senior moment of putting the abby somewhere and can't find !

Love to ALL,

Wow! All of those people huffin'and apuffin' away... Funny what a quilter will do for some fabric.... I think it is FANTASTIC! Don't worry if you can't get an hour for exercising...just doing things throughout the day will add up. Take the stairs instead of the elevator.
I walk up 144 stairs to my office every morning on the 7th floor...(but y'all knew that I was a wild and crazy Iguana anyway, didn't you?) Or you can park further out in the parking lot when you go to the store or mall. You might consider putting your ironing table in a position where you will have to get out of your seat at the sewing machine to iron a seam. Getting out of a chair is good exercise...not only does it make you lift your FQ's against gravity, but it allows you to stretch so you won't get tired shoulders and neck from sitting hunched over a hot sewing machine for hours!!
Fidget. That's right, fidget! People who fidget lose more calories at rest than people who sit quietly.

I am feeling a whole lot better today. Yesterday, I felt ok enough to go to my sewing room. I made a really cute maple leaf block (the one in the Nov. QNM--Autumn in Japan). It did not give the instructions for making this block (just referenced Quiltmaker 1985). They just supplied the templates and a picture of the major modules. I figured out what to do...for me..a woodstock dance. Figured out which way to press the seam allowances. A Triumph!! All of this stuff is new to me, so for you old hands, you are probably saying "Yawn...so what".
Anyway, I knew that I would not remember what to do months from now...so I created a document that included all of the steps, and even had little diagrams. I printed it out for my notebook. I felt soooo virtuous, that I had a hard time fitting my head through the door to go show DH my magnificent accomplishment! (LOL!!)
I also got some HQing done on the Hexagon Baby Quilt. So it isn't ALL bad being home sick.
Well, gotta go.... just had a late lunch (again)and have to get back to it.

Hi all,

Yes, I would also like to thank Bertie for her great job. Keep
your eye on the mailman by Saturday! I am happy to sponsor Veronica in CA
and be sponsored by Mary in Teton. If Veronica could e-mail me so we can
keep track, that would be great.

I have been working at my old job this week, so figured I wouldn't get much
walking in, but yesterday I discovered that I had a flat tire with no
spare, so got a ride to work, called gas station to fix flat, at end of day
got dropped off at gas station to pick up car and they hadn't even brought it
to the station!!! My ride had already left, couldn't get anyone on the phone,
so decided to walk to my daughter's house in high heels!!! And I had half a grin
on my face as I realized I could add this to my FQ500 miles!!! Oh dear, I really
do need a life!!!!!

Working this week has given me further gratitude about being retired! I have no energy
when I get home to do anything but be hypnotized by the TV. The first day I went back,
I ended up taking a 2 hour nap when I got home!!!! You'd think I was digging trenches :).

Is this BB the greatest or what. I just had to laugh when one BB'er got info for KQ in NH
from Saudi Arabia!! Can't get much better than that.

Linda in CA - Try stenciling over your oil paint stains. I did that in my craft room over two
ugly stains (one of which came from a party that my kids DIDN't have when we were away!!).
I found a spool of thread, buttons, and scissor stencil, went over the stain and my students

That's it for now. I get such warm fuzzies reading all the postings. I think we should give us
a big pat on the back because we are wonderful. Have a great day and hugs and prayers to all who
need them.

Ann in MA
love it.

I find that a lot of folks who receive spam email are AOL customers. This is really too bad
since there are quite a few people out there use AOL. I use Protosource at work and Mindspring

Almost done with my Xmas crazy quilt stockings...just need to put them together. The pattern is

Hi everyone!
My boss called last night and told me to stay home and get better. I'm trying! I hope no one else gets this bug that I've had. I can't really lay down because then the coughing starts. On the bright side, I have a temporarily diminshed sense of taste, so avoiding sweets is not a problem.
An encouragement to all those in the FQ500- I usually work out 3 or 4 times a week but have not been able to do so because of the quilts I had to finish for market and then getting sick. I'm sure if I had been able to keep up my regular routine I would have gotten over this bug faster. Keep exercising! I'm certain it helps give you that extra edge of strength when it comes to getting over the creeping crud.
My sponsoree is doing very well and the rest of you will have to keep pumping to keep up with her. I hope to get back to a few minutes on the machines next week. My goal is to firm up before our annual church couples retreat in Feb. Wo do a semi-formal dinner and I plan to use some of the wonderful batiks I got from the Phillipines and silk from china to make an outfit to wear to dinner.

terter, congrats to your son! Wow, that is really great. Almost as fast as they do it in the 1 hour cop shows. LOL

See ya later

I think I must use that subject title quite often since now it automatically appears as soon as I type in the "G" ( No Dr Ruthless - puhleeze don't go there)!!

I have an E-mail problem this morning, Outlook Express tells me I have 14 callers, but I cannot open them beyond a tiny window. The computer was already on this morning when I came to tune in, so I think my DH ( who is definitely NOT Dear this morning) has been messing again. Oh well, supper will be easy again tonight- another serving of dry bread and water!! I may not be able to answer anyone until after he gets home.

I agree with Doris about the advent of porno spam when I downloaded ICQ for a short time. I got some really filthy stuff, so I removed it and it ceased. Now all I seem to get is this continual request to "Earn Millions Working at Home" - anyone else get that? I can't believe I am so dumb, having spent 30 years trudging my butt out every morning at 6 AM working for the Government when I could now be basking on my Island in the Sun from stuffing envelopes- LOL

Nancy: What is baklava?- I have never heard of it.

Jane: Sure you can join the FQ500 jump right in, you only have to do 125 miles between now and Friday to catch up!! (Just kidding)

Agnes: No,No,No, that's not a good enough excuse, - you have to come up with something better than that!! I am dangling a very pretty FQ in front of the screen- do you want it?

Lori: LOVED your dog post. What is it with these men? Years ago when I worked in dental office and we had a patient who was having extractions done under a general anaesthetic at the hospital, her DH wanted to know if she could have a tubal ligation at the same time!!

Oh well, looks like I will have to find something productive to do today until the PC maestro dares to return home.

Hugs to all, have a nice(and exercising) day! Up one, two, three,up one,two,three,.............and now for your left toe- Tee Hee!

"What is?" said Eeyore.
"This," explained Pooh and Piglet together,
and Tigger smiled his happiest smile and said nothing.
Eeyore walked all round Tigger one way,
and then turned and walked all round him the other way.
"What did you say it was?" he asked.
"Tigger."
"Ah!" said Eeyore.
"He's just come," explained Piglet.
"Ah!" said Eeyore again.
He thought for a long time and then said:

First thanks to Sande in Ontario for being my sponsor. I've walked 3 miles this week.

I saw the posting about the FQ500 T-shirts while at work the other night but can't get back to that message now. Is it Chris in PA doing the shirts? I want to get one.

Thanks to work, now only have to have a Thanksgiving dinner for 3 instead of 13. Have to work Thanksgiving from 3-11 and DD is upset because also have to work Christmas Eve from 3-11. She has hard time understanding that people get sick and need the ER on holidays also. Told her to look at the bright side at least I would be home late Christmas eve and home on Christmas Day!

Took my choc. lab Belle to vet this morning for last set of shots and she ended up staying there to get spayed. Have male springer at home unfixed. Also have another lab/springer mix and didn't want any puppies. THREE is enough! My SO doesn't want the male fixed - just yet. Must be a guy thing - as he gives a little shiver everytime I mention getting Buster our springer fixed. However when I came home without Belle - other two dogs went looking for her. I told them - see what happens when you don't listen - go for a ride in the car and you don't come home. Have been on their best behavior ever since.

Have a great day all.

Good morning everyone;
I thought I was such a lucky gal with 2 sponsors, ROBIN and GINNYB, until I read Agnes's post, YIKES, 1000 miles instead of 500...so I guess I have only 992 miles to go,,,LOL I will have to stick with the 500, I'll be lucky if I make that..so it's only 492 miles to go.. I'm sponsoring GINNYB and LINDA in STILLWATER, so lets go girls..you can do it..lets get in shape for the new millenium,..more energy for more quilting...
My DSIL called me yesterday and said the square she is making for the memory quilt will be in the mail, TODAY.. I'm so relieved..I started this project and included family members, taking longer than I thought it would, and I'm so anxious to get it finished. The quilt wall hanging is for my DBIL & DSIL who lost their son to a heart attack. I was hoping to have it ready to give to them at Christmas time...I have my fingers crossed...
I bought some flannel on sale yesterday, and planning to make a design board..never done it before and don't know what I will come up with. I want to make an Impressionist Wall hanging from a picture I took while on vacation last summer. It will be an adventure in trying to come up with something that actually works and doesn't look terrible.. I try to keep DH out of my sewing room, he is neat and I sometimes frighten him with my projects...LOL He is still trying to get over the oil paints I got on the carpet with my painting projects...YIKES..I did have a drop cloth on the floor, I promise..
Have a wonderful quilting day..(Hugs) to all.......Linda in rainy California

I'm very lazy and am having trouble getting away from my sewing machine. I think I'll have to do as Pat /MI does and at least put my ironing board further away. I think the thing to do is put it up stairs so that each time I have to iron my pieces I'll have to run up a flight of stairs.
Will that count towards my 500 Bertie?Maybe I should walk to Pat's house once a week. She lives 5 miles away. That would be 10 round trip!

This will mean grandbabies cause they both want kids! Oh, can't wait to spoil them and give them back. But then I guess we'd better wait for the wedding first!!! Some times I have trouble with one thing at a time. When you look at my sewing room it's painfully obvious. There are always several projects going. At the moment I have two quilt tops to sandwich and quilt, one top partially finished, one stuffed bear that's waiting to be sewn and a baby afgan that is almost half done. (My niece is going to have here first child in about 4 or 5 months. She hasn't official told people she's pregnant yet.)

E-mail Address: dorsews@aol.com

Just a quick note before I'm "off to the races" for the day. Someone mentioned spam mail in her post. I was having a problem with it this fall and changed my screen name that I use when I post to the BB. The spam mail (gambling & porno-YUK!)has not followed me, so it's not the BB. All my sewing-related internet stuff is with this screen name.

The mail continued to come in on my other, old name. I finally figured out that ever since we loaded the ICQ program (works like AOL IM), that was when I started getting the spam.

I "deleted" all the spam mail (or anything I didn't recognize the sender's name) without opening it, and it finally stopped. I also didn't use ICQ for a month. I used ICQ last week to "chat" with a former exchange student who is back in Brazil, and some spam mail came in the next day. Another foreign exchange host mom I ICQ with who lives in Wisconsin receives a lot of spam mail of this sort, too. One of her Danish students loaded it so they could "chat" when he went back home two years ago.

Try to think about what you have on your computer, how it's used, etc. I really think that hackers somewhere know how to find out who is online with the ICQ, and access the screen name to send this stuff.

Off to do volunteer work today. Have a good day, all!

We live in Kent, Washington in our motorhome, but left there the end of September. Our first stay for a period of time was in Arkansas for my husbands 45th class reunion. We had a ball and everyone is so friendly. We parked in Harrison, AR and there is a delightful, wonderful quilt shop there. It is called Country Corner Quilts & Crafts. They are located at the jct. of Hwy 392 and Hwy 62-412W. The phone number is 870-437-2299 and their web page is www.cswnetcom/-quilts/ I haven't checked out the web page but they are so helpful and have wonderful fabrics. Because we live in the motor home I don't buy lots of fabric, but did buy quite a bit there to go with some blocks my Grandmother and Mother made.
We also discovered an Amish fabric shop in Missouri and I bought enough fabric there for a top also. I really must get these finished before I keep buying. There really is only so much room in a motor home. I can't remember where the Amish fabric shop was but will check my files tomorrow and see if I can find something with the address. Will post when I get that done.

Got the photo transfers done for the I Spy quilt that I am making for a friend - that is next on my list - hopefully before Christmas, but want to finish a Christmas tree skirt too...... so many things to do and so little time - though DH has been out of town since last Thursday and won't be home til Friday night - I have missed him but managed to fill my time with lots of quilty stuff!

Ladies! A squishy shower for me doing the FQ 500 is totally unnecessary!

(Here's the shameless part 'cuz I'm really just a kid in an ole lady's body). But if you must, my last name is Durham and I LOVE brights or anything sent my way in other words, LOL!

It was my pleasure because I have a real warped sense of humor imagining you all huffin and apuffing along with me! (Nanner, nanner, nanner; you all are going to feel so good and live so much longer to make so many more quilts!)

Thanksgiving is coming and I plan to eat a lot of stuffing and cranberries. I'm truly thankful for this Chat Page and all of you in my life.

Continued blessings on you all,

Time to check in and say Hi to everyone. I have been busy quilting, answering oodles of mail, and trying to do some Christmas shopping before the stores get too packed.

Doni:- Did you hear me cheering all the way over there?- Great re-match, and glad to see our man win! Also so good to see you back posting- so many miss you when you are just lurking.

Bertie: You are doing a great job, - don't know how you keep it all so organized! Hope everyone is still giving the FQ500 their best efforts. Who wants my squishy?

Elaine: - Thanks for the beautiful card, my thoughts are always with you and DH.

Marty: I will catch up with you in the next few days.

Ter Ter: Thanks for your most recent E-mail and attachments- very interesting! I will answer you this week. BTW - are you telling tales out of school?

jdb: LOVED the Bubba's pictures- you should send it to Kellie's page so that everyone can see how gorgeous he is!

Loon: "Name that road kill"?- you split me up, and No I am not playing that with you!!! or counting the deer for that matter!

I received a nice letter from Monica, and she is doing just fine. She is busy working with her Mom on new patterns and designs for the web site. I have the URL somewhere, but cannot find it right now, so will mention it in my next post.

It is snowing here and very cold, so I guess winter seems to have arrived.

Hugs to all,
Celia

Sande in Ontario: would you please email me please so I can contact you?

Jean in VT: sent an email your way a little while ago.

I made it! Drove 250 miles down to Sault Ste. Marie to put my kids on the plane (actually DSIL did a chunk of the driving) and made it home on my own. I have had some kind of bug since last Wed. and still feel like (censored). Through it all, I cooked good meals, had a "Welcome Home" Open House and everyone enjoyed themselves. I recall being an iron woman when the kids were small and I was indispensible, but since the nest emptied, I tend to drag myself off to bed at the first hint of a bug (rest is good preventative medicine, you understand). Didn't know I still had it in me!
They hadn't been home in 2 years so it was frustrating to be feeling less than my best. It was a good visit, despite that, and I've got lots of new memories of DGD to treasure. She loved her quilt and used it every night while she was here.

Needless to say, my stationary bike has been completely stationary. Hope to fix that soon. Also hope to get back at my quilting. I didn't go fabric shopping in SSM today although I had a little time. I don't know where the stores are there and felt too sick to go searching. I did stop at a little (very little) shop in Wawa on the way home and bought 3 too-expensive pieces of fabric for my stash. So I managed to have S.E.X. even though I'm sick!LOL

Lots of posts since yesterday morning. I've had fun reading them all. Bertie: thanks for all your hard work.
Ronna: when my throat was so sore last week, I was so desparate i tried a rememdy a nurse friend gave me: gargling with warm salt water. It actually works for a short period of time and is probably good over the long run (just like saline soaks?) anyway, if you can think about it without gagging, it's worth a try next time you need something.

I've been too busy the past several days to even surf and oh my, we've been a busy group. Especially you Berti and I too send my thanks for all the hard work.

ADRIA in KC MO please post or email so I can get your email.

I'm about to do a BIG snoopy dance for several ufo's finally completed and ready for Christmas giving. This feels soooooo good, especially because one is 10 yers old. Its a Robbing Peter to Pay Paul lap quilt in blue and white - always loved it but wasn't into blue soon after I started it. This summer DS and wife bought a house with lots of established blue decorating. I brought out the completed top and they loved it!

I just got the roll of film back with RIDGELEY opening her quilt. It's not the greatest photo but I'll send it on to Kellie. I haven't heard a thing from Ridgeley which saddens me because she's obviously still struggling. I'll send her the duplicates and hopefully she'll let us all know how she's doing. Any word to you Kitty Kat?

Good luck everyone with this the official beginning of FQ500 - hmmmm, think some of you got a head start.

ps: I checked out Bighorn Quilts tonight (no affilliation) and they have some wonderful quilt block magnets. Great gifts for quiters and no quilters I'd say. And yes, I ordered a bunch.

Cindy in AL: I think that it will be a while before I will be ready for that FQ. I guess that I could start walking to the mailbox. I know that doesn't sound like much, but my drkiveway is 1/4 mile long, and very steep. I could look at it as training for bad weather. ( If there is any this year.) Up here on our hill when the weatherman says snow or sleet (or any other nasty winter weather) we do two things: fill up the bathtub, and park at the bottom of the driveway. Help! I went to the site that was recommended for Amish quilts and it redirected me to Susan's home page thingy. Just where in all those intriguing categories would I find the Amish stuff? Thanks for the tip, I have many hours of happy clicking to do, exploring the sites.

So last evening I hobbled down to the WalMart, intending to purchase some batting for my newest quilt. No batting in the right size anywhere and I thought I might beat my head against a brick wall by asking if there was anymore in the stockroom (do they ever have anything in back at your WM? From all outward indications ours must be a big empty room with no lights and a tricky door handle, 'cause there's never more in back and it takes the salesperson forever to return), only to be informed they were phasing out all batting in favor of more trendy craft items. Yikes! They're the only local business left that carries the stuff and if they don't, that means a four hour round trip for quilting supplies. I wonder if all WalMarts are doing this or are we the only lucky ones?

Now, as for hobbling... I do believe my sponsor can relax about rushing out to buy me an FQ! Ai Chihuahua, I didn't know my tushie had so many muscles! Right now, I'm at the red alert soreness stage, where taking a deep breath is an adventure in pain. How did I let myself get so mushy? We need somebody to come up with a way to make quilting aerobic, then we'd all have bods like super models.

Ronna; I'm going to check my little stash of patterns and see what I can come up with in the hummingbird department.

Veronica in So Cal where it's still ninety. How about a weather exchange-- you mail me snow and I'll fax you some heat.

Posted yesterday - but it never showed up - probably cruising around in outer space somewhere.

So far - not doing well with walking - but I did drive over 700 miles over the weekend - can I count any of that? (Since it was all tool show related, it should count for something.

Amish - the "Old Order" amish are more strict than others. But times are changing. Even they will ride in cars - and usually hire someone to drive them. They will use a telephone - but they don't have one in their homes. (Sometimes you will see a telephone on a corner out in Amish country) The cabinet maker in our nearby Amish area has the most modern of tools - but they run off a motor powered by deisel fuel. Sometimes you will see an electric generator on a farmstead to power a refrigerator, etc. When they make quilts to sell to the "English" they use fabrics that will appeal to them. I buy spices at the bulk food store, and some other things. It is an interesting area - not too far from our home.

Looking for quick meals - go to www.campbelllkitchen.com/mealmail
If you subscribe they will email you a recipe a day. Some are better than others, but have found several that look good to me.

Bertie - thanks for being my sponsor - I don't think you are in too much danger of having me collect real soon.

I was all set for a relaxing evening. I should just never plan those! Dinner doesn't turn out as well as I had hoped (lesson learned - jerusalem artichokes are not that great roasted, IMHO). I had to help Morgan steamclean, then return the darn cleaner so he could play hockey. And the roomie had control of the TV. Then I'm interupted during decent TV with a call from Morgan. Thank goodness my brother is a surgeon - guess who took a high stick in the face? Nine stitches later and 2 o'clock in the morning I finally relax. Oh well, at least nothing really bad happened. Oop, did I say that Morgan?

It was a good thing my brother could help him out. He just met him at the closest hospital and talked his way into getting some sutures and a room. The ER doc was happy because it was so busy. But he did ask Morgan if he trusted my brother. Morgan replied that he knew where he lived, so if he messed up he knew where to go to get revenge! If he had to go to the hospital on his own he would probably still be waiting for stitches! The cover article in the paper today was about some patients waiting up to four days in the ER just to get admitted because they won't open anymore beds. Oh, I better stop, you don't want to hear my entire heath care tirade. Just ask why my mom lives in Texas!

Well, Morgan is fine and I am attempting to get work done finally. But first, real business.

Linda in Stillwater. I will email you right after I post. Thanks for sponsoring. I'm lucky, I get two! More FQ for me! I have a deal with Lou Ann that I won't count my walks with Maple, as those HAVE to happen everyday. So, should I count those with you Linda? Nah, that would just get too confusing! So, you can mark me down for 6 miles so far, both of you. Hopefully I can get to the gym tonight, get on the ergometer (rowing machine). I'll keep you posted.

Lou Ann - I hope you are out there today! Just imagine you are already out of the city and enjoy the view.

Take care everyone!

Snoopy Dance for my 13yo son Robert and me. Two years ago, he had sewn 24 cracker box blocks, paperpieced, and had them signed by his schoolmates. I put the top together, layered, basted it, Robert machine quilted the straight lines, I quilted the crosshatch border and some frogs. We used a bright green KPKids frog print for the border, and I quilted the frog outline in the setting triangles. I also put the binding on. DS is ADHD, so this is a real great accomplishment for him. I hope he will take it to school and show it.

Now I can start fondling those pretty blocks for Karen's quilts.

However, I do feel better today. I was even considering going into work in the afternoon…but I am sure I can talk myself out of it!

Sue in PA: What is the "Current" catalog? I saw another cute holiday card….it has this really cute frog holding a present and standing expectantly under the mistletoe. Really cute!!!

D-Bee: With 5000 pounds of lead in the keel, she is unlikely to capsize!! (LOL!!) Or at least…she will come right-side-up after a knock-down.

Linda in Stillwater: I thought that infants being breast fed were immune to a lot of things because of the antibodies in Mother's milk. Just goes to show what I know about babies!! (LOL!!)

Things are looking better today….not nearly as feverish…just a bit achy. I might even get up the energy to finish those little quilt block pins that I started at the quilt guild meeting.

Veronica in CA: I put a pattern in the mail…it is on it's way. Oh yeah, if you see a pattern for a hummingbird….a Saberwing….you could send it along (LOL!!)

Kathy and Marty, you are both in my thoughts.

This sore throat cure is probably too late for Ronna, but with the season
coming up, maybe it will help somebody.
FOR A SORE THROAT DRINK HALF PINEAPPLE AND HALF CARROT JUICE--as many times a
day as your throat needs it. Yes, I know it tastes nasty if you use the canned
carrot juice, but that seems to work as well as fresh. So you don't need to go
out and buy a juicerator. DD says this even helps tonsilitis.

What a wonderful job you have done, BERTIE, organizing the FQ 500... To my sponsor, ROBIN, I'm at only 493 miles to go..LOL.. I see that I have no one listed to sponsor, so if there is someone out there who needs one, email me, I would love to sponsor someone who is just sponsoring and not participating in the exercise.
What the heck...time reading the BB to check up on all our lastest stuff must be worth a FQ.I would think..
All the T-shirt slogans sound wonderful...it costs me $8.50 to have a transfer done..YIKES.. We used to have several T-shirt shops in town, there all gone now..only a specialty dry cleaner clothing repair place that also does applique, that takes advantage of the situation, as far as I'm concerned. None of the dry cleaners in town will do it..they say their irons are not hot enough. Will the transfers for our T-shirts be the kind that can be done on a home iron..hope so...$$$$ ...???
It is rainy and cold here in California, perfect for those quilty ideas..
I received a thank you call from my little 4 year old DGD last night. She loves the Jar quilt wall hanging I made for her. I had so much fun with that project.
A squishie shower for our wonderful BERTIE is definitely in order..what a hard working gal, wish I had your organization skills..
