MARY IN OHIO....Now that we know you're coming - are you stopping here for Serial Quilters after your duty as white glove lady is done? Or will the Serial Quilters need to make a field trip to see you? Brenda in IN is coming over that day, too, so we should be making plans! Would love to have you stop here, have lunch, etc.

DONI: I wish I could think of something totally brilliant (and sarcastic) to say but I am so overwhelmed by the image you've provided us that I am, for one of the rare times in my life, totally speechless!

TIME IN A BOTTLE....Murphy's Oil Soap brings back hundreds of childhood memories. Even though it's not healthy (and probably kills brain cells), that old mimeograph smell of the papers teachers handed out. Remeber smelling the paper as soon as it landed on your desk - if the teacher had just run them off, you got the benefit of a full blast! Cinnamon rolls....always remind me of my Grandma Harriett and going to Miller Payne Department Store in Lincoln, Nebraska, to buy the best cinnamon rolls ever. (And how many remember the days when the department stores actually carried fresh food items?)

GETTING CLOSE: Managed to MQ my four patch yesterday - got the whole thing done! Now it's just getting the binding on and blind stitched and I'll have one more obligation out of the way! I'm really trying to dig myself out from under a bunch of commitments, even though some don't even have deadlines, or the deadlines are far away. I will reach a point sometime (soon, I hope) where I can actually say, "I am completely done with anything I've promised anyone!" Of course, I know the odds of this becoming a reality are non-existant, but let me dream for a while, okay???

Cassi in Ohio....where we had less than 1/100 of an inch of rain yesterday, making September's rainfall total 3/100"....less than Phoenix has had this month!

I'm posting again because I finally thought of what I'd put in a bottle. You know that smell after it rains? The hot, wet cement and clean air?
Makes me think of when I was little. The other thing is, if you could catch the creamy, yellow color of the fog some mornings at the lake, when the sun glows through it, but you can't really see anything. It's like a halo. Way too hard to describe if you've never seen it. Now, if I could just put that color on fabric....

Goodnight everyone, sweet derams.

Veronica: I just saw cloud fabric in "regular" cotton at the Textile. It was the expected blue and white colored print. I was considering it as one of the fabrics for my mariner's compass....Drop me an email if you want me to pick some up for you. Or I could check to see if one of the on-line stores has it and email you.

Hello all, Doni, You just keep us all LOL, great story!
Why do I quilt? I can't say that it is because its because my family did, I'm a first generation quilter. I guess its because I can! I went to the East Cobb Quilt Show this weekend, what wonderful quilts. I also had some much needed S.E.X. It's been sooooo long. I have three quilts in a show next weekend, It's the Aunt Het Quilt Show in Fountian Inn, SC. This is the last show for two of the quilts, they will be in their new homes this Christmas. They are going to live with my niece and nephew. I guess that I will have to make one for my DF who whines all the time that HE does'nt have a quilt yet. Well he want a quilt to cover his boat motor!!! I'm not sure he really understands! Kathy in SC who would put the smell of fresh cut hay in my bottle!

Boy oh Boy- poor Buf and I have had to do some big time sucking up to Mamma D today!!! Buf has to lick her feet for the next 6 months, and I have to send her a FQ every week for the next year!!! Still laughing about it though!!!

I imposed a no "goggle box" ban on myself this morning ( well I did have a couple of brief weaknesses), so that I could get some things done today. This monster and Charlie cat monster are ruling my life!! I told that little bundle of fur this morning that I hoped he remembered that I took pity on him at the shelter, and that he did not come COD from the Queen!! He now demands, and I do mean demands his milk warmed, his crunchies mixed in with his teaspoon of meat, and will not accept anything different. Just sits there and won't eat until I do it right!

Bertie, I loved your post- I printed it out twice- one for each of my kids.

Nancy- I would loved to have seen Ridgeley open her quilt- what a tremendous project this has been, everyone should be so proud of what has become a treasured memory of Kevin for her and the children.

Time in a bottle?- I thought was a wonderful question. For me it would be the smell of Pears soap to remind me of my late Mother, the smell of Autumn to remind me always that by the Grace of God, our son survived spinal meningitus when the odds were against him, and last to capture the moment of making a difference in the life of someone, Simple things, but with a timeless depth.

Nelly in Thunder Bay- I loved your post- very graphic, and it made me laugh !

Cher- Congrats on your run- heck - I have never even walked 10K let alone run it- made me tired out you did! Retain your own identity with your Thesis, there is always someone who feels the need for self empowerment, so try not to let it get to you.

Special thoughts for Elaine and Granny Connie.

Hugs to all,
Celia

If I could put scents in bottles I would have one for that clean baby smell and one for the way new books used to smell when I was a little kid. And one for the way my husband's skin smells when he's been outside.

this has been a trying day. Took my car in for an alignment and found it needs new ball joints which won't be in till tomorrow. While I was at the garage I got a phone call from my DH who sells tools from a tool truch (a little store on wheels). the truck broke down about 2 hours from where we live and had to be towed an hour and some even further away to the nearest dealer (remember, we live in the bush). I went and rescued him and we are now trying not to think about the days he can't go out selling and (the scariest part) the fact that his whole inventory is sitting in a strange garage in a strange town. He's only had this business for 4 years. Before that there was always the security of an hourly job and a regular paycheque. This is really stressful I think I need to go quilt.

I am going to think about my quilt which is getting more beautiful by the day (even if I am only getting 4 -5 stitches to the inch). What a difference the quilting makes. I am also looking forward to going to TB where I will meet Nelly and do a tiny bit of shopping. thank you for a safe place to vent!

Brenda in Nn Ontario where tomorrow will be a better day, I hope

E-mail Address: Momred@aol.com

Hi everyone,
I am the newbie, Momred actually my name is Jill I live in Va great place for quilters! G-street, Quilt patch, Quilt n stuff , and more. I guess the question is why I quilt! Several reasons come to mind the excuse to buy fabric topping the list then there is the whole production thing, you do laundry it gets dirty ,you cook food it gets eaten, you make a bed it gets slept in on and on. You make a quilt and you have an heirloom, or at least something warm to snuggle under. Finally I love the way non-quilters react when you give them a quilt. You sew a few pieces of fabric together and they react as if you have just performed brain surgery! Well there you have it just a few of the reasons lastly I guess it deserves to be said that the main reason is just because I have to. I am compelled to.I suspect that many of you have a similar feeling of calling. Well enough philosophy from the newbie. Today was a great day I bought fabric! Bye all

Off to the Napa River we go for a family fishing trip......Boys fish, I read..time to eat....Spread out table cloth on ground...Move my chair to the edge, sitting in the weeds, beach chair low to the ground.... Scream, Ouch, Jump up, spill orange aide all over boys...they are jumping, I'm still screaming...OUCH...hear a rattle, grabbed my BUTT(big one) yelling OUCH....boys jump farther back...then I laugh...saw rattle snake grass, waving in the wind and a stick poking up through the chair...NO I HAD NOT BEEN BITTEN...but wish I had for all the teasing I still get...

we're home! Got called to Mpls Wednesday as DDIL was in labor. We're proud grandparents of a baby girl - Grace Josselyn. Baby quilt and matching doll quilt done and delivered too - doll quilt for Gracie's older sister age 2 1/2.

The highlight of today was delivering Ridgeley's quilts. We made a quick stop to the Country Peddler in St Paul to show the quilts to Irish Sandi (Sandi in MN). Then on to Ridgeley, knowing her 2 oldest would be in school - gymnastics after school so there was no choice. Kevin's father and wife were also there to enjoy the unveiling. Needless to say, Ridgeley was overcome with emotion and we left her to enjoy the quilts and lovely scrapbook (Cassi's addition) of cards and condolences sent by many BB'ers. We had planned to stay just a short time and it was a correct assumption. I can only tell you Ridgeley was truely taken back by the wonderful quilts and all the work put into them. Thanks to all that took part in this contribution to a young woman who truely will appreciate it.

Time to unpack and think about our next step in life - leaving for our winter in FL.

Bertie, wonderful post!
Doni, My sides hurt from laughing, but I'm laughing with you not at you!
Why to I quilt? Honestly? Right now, I'm in it for the money! Me and my mercenary little heart. Usually, when I make quilts for gifts, etc., I do it for the joy of creating something wonderful and to use the talent God gave me. I also believe that He gives us "jobs to enjoy, that we may prosper thereby". So, quilting for the money is not a bad thing, especially when it's something you truly enjoy.

Nancy the sewbird stopped by the shop this AM and brought Ridgeley's quilt in for me to see. What a sweetheart! And what a wonderful quilt you have all done, It is really breath-taking. You should all be proud of it. I'm sure the she will be really blessed by all the work and thought and warm wishes that went into it.
Talk to you later, Sandi

Ladies,
Here seems to be a good cause that some of you might want to contribute to. Cranston Village is collecting 12.5" unfinished quilt blocks. These will be made into quilts and auctioned off with the money going for breast cancer research. The only "catch" is that you have to use Cranston Christmas VIP fabric for the whole block. THat will be the cause of a trip to the fabric store for me to get just those fabrics to use but I don't really mind a trip to JoAnn's. These will be auctioned off in May of 2000. If you want more details the address from Cranston Village is: www.sewforthecure.com

Wheee! Back to my computer and the BB after a long weekend.

I once read what "Allee allee, all outs in free" meant, and the history behind it, but brain erosion has taken it's toll. I'm pretty sure the first two words are actually 'allons' for 'let's go' in French. Personally, I always thought it was a quote from a book about some kid named Ollie...

The question about time in a bottle got me to thinking about bottling scents as a way to preserve time and memories. I would have to save a bottle of rain on concrete, windfall apples, my father's neck as I sat in his lap, and my grandfather's workshop on a wet day (coffee, motor oil, magnolias and cedar shavings). Have you ever noticed how just a tiny whiff of something can send you back decades? Does anybody remember the smell of fresh mimeographs? It makes me six years old all over again. In a funny way that's why I quilt. To create a symbol of life well lived, a realization of what's really important in life. Quilts to picnic on, tuck around children asleep in the backseat, wrap around a beloved pet one last time, and celebrate the creation of a new family on the wedding and birthdays.

I found a nifty site for fabric dyes that some of you may already know about, but what the heck. Dharmatrading.com has oodles of dyes of all kinds and was very helpful to boot. I'm waiting for my first package as I type, so I might just get that perfect shade of dark red after all. Has anybody seen any cloud print fabric, by the way? I've promised my niece a pair of pajamas with clouds on 'em. All I've found so far is flannel, but this is So Cal and I'd have roast niece if I tried sewing with that!

Happy practically the end of September,

Veronica

Well, in the sleet and snow, quite literally, I ran the 10km race in Banff on Saturday. It was cold and rainy during the race, and shortly after I finished it started snowing. Yup, snowing. So much for the post race door prizes, we headed to the hills! Okay, so we were already in the mountains, so we headed higher up and hit the Hot Springs. Ahhh, so nice after the gruelling run. It went well, but my legs cramped up and it made the last couple of kms difficult, but I still did better than I thought. And the soak was great. The snow was coming down in huge, wet flakes and that, combined with the steam from the water meant you couldn't see across the pool. It was as private as one can ever get in Banff.

And now I am working away. Just call me an edit machine. I am going through my supervisor's comments today. Ai Carumba! At least he put a few nice comments in, but he doesn't seem to think I can think for myself. He constantly asks for references on things I wrote on my own. Oh well, I can clear that up later. Best get back at it.

Cheryl in Edmonton

PS. Doni, I hope your hair doesn't "shrink"!

It had been many, many years since I had been there. When I was a child, growing up in Greenfield, my mother bought all her fabrics there. Hi everyone!
Doni, your story is so funny(I'm sure it wasn't
at the time) about getting caught in the towel.
Your story about your getting the prep H instead
of the conditioner reminds me of my sil and db
were going on a trip and she put face cream in
an old jar labeled shampoo and my brother got the
jar and took in to the shower with him, after they were
at their motel, he finally called out to her and
asked what was wrong with the shampoo as it wouldn'
lather,(so he kept putting more on,) his hair was
so greasy,he like to have never washed all the face
cream out of his hair.
I guess its good to have something to laugh about
sometime, as things on the news sometime and our
lives are so bad.
I really enjoy hearing everyones funnies and sad
experiences as well.
I hope everyone is having a good quilt day.

E-mail Address: scholtpd***@muohio.edu

I posted some on the Bulletin Board page, but this is mostly the chatty stuff. The show was lots of fun! I ran into a woman with little yellow yo-yos on her T-shirt, and asked her if she was from the WWQP. No---but she was interested--she put the YYY there to cover a coffee stain! Then Kathy (or Cathy), a lurker, said hi to me at the elevator banks in the hotel. Then I saw Jane from Royal Oak, MI in the show itself (she had e-mailed me her description which really helped)and we managed to talk some before she drifted off to the vendors and then letting her backpacked child run around a while. The baby seems to like fabric--think she's got a future quilter on her hands! I ran into Willia and her mother in the show on Saturday. I went to all the venues except the other smaller quilt show nearby, so I saw most of the total of 907 quilts displayed in the area. A real range of time periods--from very antique to ultramodern, and every period in between! I had two works in the show myself. No ribbons for me, but several people came up to me and asked me where I had met them---one of my works was my self-portrait in Hawaiian shirt and necklace, and that's where they "met" me! Plus I got the chance to meet and talk with Dr. Raymond Dobard, the co-author of Hidden in Plain View (the book about the quilt code and the Underground Railroad). I missed the lecture he gave at another venue in town (can't be everywhere at once, I guess!), and was glad to have the opportunity to talk with him and try to clear up some questions I had about the book. He's got new information (is getting more information at every talk he gives), and there's at least one more book coming out. Can't wait to read it! I sat at the banquet table with Willi, her mother, and Ami Simms, so you KNOW we had a great time Saturday night! If you've got the chance to take a class from her, or to hear her lecture, take it---she's a great teacher, and you'll enjoy every minute! (I do know Ami, but I'm not being paid for this---LOL) Then I was totally silly and went to the Open Studio in the hotel, and sewed and talked until 1:15AM Sunday. I left Flint by 9AM Sunday, so not much time was spent sleeping that night--especially since I had to repack my suitcases. That's why I haven't posted earlier--just too tired, and all the stuff I had to catch up on from 4 days absence. I had the total pleasure of meeting Mary Andrews (instrumental in arranging for the showing of "Signatures in Fabric III" at QatC, and Marty Lawrence (dyer, quilt teacher, author, co-chairman for QatC this year, etc.) and several other Flint committee people and teachers (sorry, I'm still tired and my mind is a blank at names...). Getting to know new friends is so much fun! When you're with quilters, you're never alone! I was adopted by a group of quilters on Thursday night, and we went to supper together. What can I say--you're never a stranger for long amongst quilters. Can you tell I had a good time?

Plus, I am leaving tomorrow late morning to give a lecture at the Lima, OH quilt guild on "How to Prepare to Enter Quilt Shows", stay there overnight, go to the Door Mouse in Bettsville the next morning, get home Wednesday afternoon, leave Oxford Thursday morning for Columbus, OH, and return early Friday morning, so that I can go to Serials at Cassi's house. Whew! That doesn't even include all the loads of laundry and packing and unpacking I have to do.

Gotta go make supper! Hugs to all!
Linda, the Serial Quilter from Oxford, OH

Subject: Why quilt and weekend
E-mail Address: creinke@mindspring.com

Why I quilt. Because it keeps my hands busy. Because I love the "magic" way bits of cloth become designs when pieced and then come alive with quilting. Because it is a quiet time, when your mind can roam. Because I love the snuggly warmth of a finished quilt.

Speaking of snuggy warmth. My DH and I spent a lot of time this weekend up at our cabin "snuggling" our neighbor's new kitten. The little thing was dying for love. He would cry for attention piteously, so we would go down to our porch swing and sit in it reading while he cuddled up. What a way to spend a weekend - especially with a full moon, clear sky, and still water. Close to heaven.

To end up a perfect weekend, we drove over to a restaurant in a converted mill on the GA border for Sunday lunch. There is a small antique and import shop there - the owner spends the winter in Indonesia. She had some gorgeous pieces of batik... (who'd a thunk S.E.X. at an out-of-the-way restaurant in rural AL!) I lusted after them, my husband couldn't stand all that drooling & said go ahead, so I bought one piece - GULP! - this CT Yankee's heart does flip-flops spending that much for one piece of fabric. Now to decide what to make with it. Decisions, decisions.

This weekend, Judy from MA and I went to our favorite place for Stash EXpansion: The Textile in Greenfield, Ma. If you are in Western Mass, this is a very nice place to go. They have *such* a nice selection. Judy was looking for flannel fabric to be the backing of a wool afghan she is making for a church raffle. I was looking for the focus fabric for my upcoming (very first) quilting workshop on making the mariner's compass using machine. I had visited JoAnn's, and could find all of the support-type fabrics, but not a fabric I liked well enough for a feature fabric.
There was a fabric that I really wanted to use, but none of the stores in the area had it in the colorway I wanted, so I ordered it on-line from Hancock's of Paducah. I did not know whether it would arrive in time for my workshop next weekend, thus our special EXpedition. I found a very nice fabric after we set up several bolts for audition. I got more than required for this project since I liked it well enough that it will appear in several more planned projects. In addition, Judy and I rummaged through the bolt remnants on sale and found some that appealed to each of us.
Saturday afternoon, I got back and looked at the afternoon's mail……yes, a rather large squishy from Hancock's!!! I opened it after snatching it from DH's clutches. Yes, I said, a squishy….and it's MINE!!! Teee heee heeee! I opened the package in great anticipation………Ahhhh! Perfect! But now, I looked at some of the fabrics chosen and decided I would shift the color scheme from a secondary color of rust to a secondary color of green. That meant that my "stripe" fabric would need a replacement, since it was a rust and white stripe….. No problem, I thought….wait till Judy sees this!
This afternoon, we had lunch and both thought that the fabric I got at The Textile actually could be read as a stripe, and some other fabrics in my stash could easily take the place of the other rust fabric. So all is well, and now I am looking forward to a day of mariner's compass on Saturday. I know that even though the person running the workshop has a color/pattern distribution in mind….if I don't like it I can do what I want anyway! My quilt after all! (LOL!)

LOU ANN in S.A.: If I could put time in a bottle……I would fill it with the smell of the outdoors in spring, just after the trees have leafed out. I would also have a bottle of 'eau de autumn', that lovely smell of the leaves after they have fallen on a crisp fall day. I would have a bottle of 'brand new baby' smell, a bottle of osmanthus blossoms, a bottle of ' air just before a thunderstorm', and a bottle of sun dried laundry.
Oh…I can see that the row of bottles will be taking up more room than my stash soon!!! The things I have put in a bottle, are the things that make me remember how lovely life on the planet is! I could fill up rows and rows….

BERTIE: Loved your list of things that women are good at.

Boy am I tired. I walked 6 miles Saturday, climbed 600 feet almost straight up over enormous boulders , (used both hands and feet to climb those) then continued at the same angle up some
slippery slidey stuff and gave up. I told DD and friends (average age about 18) that I didn't want to hold them back from their journey any longer and to continue on without me. That slidey stuff just freaked me right out, especially when I realized that we had to come down the same way. Now I wish I had persevered at my own pace (snail..I lose my breath very easily when I go uphill) and made it the last little way. I sat for a while, started down the boulders a little way until I could lay flat on one enormous one for a while, until a huge eagle roused me by flapping his wings just above my back...maybe I looked like supper because I hadn't moved for a
while. Then I started back down the rest of the hill and the 6 mile walk back at my own pace stopping often to see if they were catching up yet. It was just beautiful with comfortable walking weather and leaves falling down around me and the sound of waves breaking on the shore of Lake Superior on one side. The young people didn't catch up until I was about 2 miles from
the car. I had to ford a stream and although I made it from stone to stone quite easily on the way out, my legs just weren't working as well on the way back so I used the same technique as climbing the boulders, down on all fours, ....no-one would see me....well guess who caught up to me then? LOL Today with blisters on both feet, and sore all over I'm hardly moving at all. A good day to sit at the quilt frame. At least my
lunch and my camera made it up to the top of the Chimney, DD and friend helped me by lightening my load on the way up. Good thing I kept my water
bottle and a squashed muffin, since my lunch didn't catch up to me until after I reached the car. I don't think I did too badly for a fluffy 50
something, gray haired (a little) old lady.

On Friday Brenda from northern Ont is coming to the "big" city to find a thimble. Its a 4 hour drive from here, but the towns between her place and mine are very small and have very limited sewing suplies. We'll get together for coffe and maybe hit the only quilt shop in the "big" city. Actually with a population of almost 120,00 we should be able to support more than one shop, but no such luck. This shop is tucked into such a small space that I always drive by once before I find it. LOL

Hi all,

Another beautiful day in MA. Could use this all year
long. Thanks to Susan in NJ and Kathy in Ohio for the info
on UV window protection. I will be off to Home Depot ASAP.

Have just finished a busy week. Had the good fortune of getting
into the Ryder Cup on Thursday for the practice rounds. Was so
great to see Brookline Country Club in person. Gorgeous. Then
had two events at the Museum of Science (Weds.)& Old State House (Sat.). Throw in
a retirement party on Friday. Thank the Lord I retired!!! However, I actually
got quite a bit of quilting done. Made six squares of the block of
the month being done at the local fabric shop using teal, purple lavender and
a butterfly fussy cut, and made an adorable
witch wall hanging from McCall's Quilting Oct. 98 issue. Took me an hour to just
cut out the main pieces which where mostly 1 1/4-2 inches. Thought maybe it would
be too small for me, but came out just perfect. Really would like to teach it so
called McCall's to get info on how to get permission to do this. Waiting for
their return call.

Well, back to lurking as I am way behind on BB. Thanks, Nancy for list. Love it!
Hugs and prayers to all who need them.

Well what he said was basically true.. The bus driver..male no doubt..caught me in my towel..Nick never gets home befor noon...so i decided to jump in the shower real quick while Ethan was sleeping..took my shower..stepped out of the shower and Ethan was screaming at the top off his little lungs! I quick fast grabbed a towel and ran in to the front room to check on him..we live in the country..and I wasnt worried about getting caught..the front door was locked..just as I bent over to comfort Ethan..the sliding glass door jerks open and Nick and his bus driver..a MAN!! comes walking in! OH MY GOD!! I was so embarrassed!! I did manage to keep myself covered..but I swear my bathtowel had shrank to the size of a tea towel! LOL!! OH MY!! I do the backwards shuffle back out of the room..so embarrassed I glowed!! and went in and got dressed..Nick thought this was the funniest thing that happened to him so far in his short life! I was just raggin him big time...reached in the drawer of the bath to get my conditioner..I use the Vo5 in a tube for my hair..leave in conditioner..and as i was rubbing it in it just got greasier! I looked and I had mistaking put Preperataion H in my hair!! OH MY WORD!! Can it get worse than this?? YES!! When i told nick what I had done..and explained what the Prep H was for he just rolled on the floor in fits of laughter waiting for my head to shrink!! All day long that kid would just bust out giggling!! LOL! I washed and washed my hair to get it out...and got the most of it but is do still have a few greasy spots.. Can you believe this!! Why when i have a really bad day..does the pick puss nick have to be standing right there to witness everything!! Like im ever going to live this down!!

Empowerment

WOMEN have strengths that amaze men. They carry children, they carry
hardships, they carry burdens, but they hold happiness, love and joy.
They smile when they want to scream. They sing when they want to cry.
They cry when they are happy and laugh when they are nervous.

WOMEN wait by the phone for a "safe at home call" from a friend or
relative after a snowy drive home.

WOMEN have special qualities about them. They volunteer for good
causes. They are pink ladies in hospitals, they bring food to shut ins.
They are child care workers, executives, attorneys, stay-at-home
moms, biker babes and your neighbors. They wear suits, jeans,
and they wear uniforms. They fight for what they believe in. They
stand up for injustice. They are in the front row at PTA meetings.
They vote for the person that will do the best job for family issues.

WOMEN walk and talk the extra mile to get their children in the right
schools and for getting their family the right health care. They write
to the editor, their congressmen and to the "powers that be" for
things that make for a better life. They don't take "no" for an answer
when they believe there is a better solution.

WOMEN stick a love note in their husband's lunch box. They do
without new shoes so their children can have them. They go to
the doctor with a frightened friend. They love unconditionally.

WOMEN are honest, loyal, and forgiving. They are smart, knowing
that knowledge is power; but they still know how to use their
softer side to make a point.

WOMEN want to be the best for their family, their friends, and
themselves. They cry when their children excel and cheer when
their friends get awards. They are happy (or cry) when they hear
about a birth or a new marriage. Their hearts break when a friend
dies. They have sorrow at the loss of a family member, yet they
are strong when they think there is no strength left.

A WOMAN'S touch can cure any ailment. They know that a hug
and a kiss can heal a broken heart. She can make a romantic
evening unforgettable.

WOMEN come in all sizes, in all colors and shapes. They live in
homes, apartments and cabins. They drive, fly, walk, run or e-mail
you to show how much they care about you. The heart of a woman
is what makes the world spin!

WOMEN do more than just give birth. They bring joy and hope.
They give compassion and ideals. They give moral support to their
family and friends And all they want back is a hug, a smile and for
you to do the same to people you come in contact with.

Women have a lot to say and a lot to give.

This was sent to you by someone who respects you as a WOMAN
and who sees many of your qualities in this letter. Why not pass
it on to someone you recognize and know?

That which does not destroy me only makes me stronger!

Hi and Good Morning from down south. Texas that is. Boy, I sure do like reading all of your posts and all the quilting you do and work too. I don't have any excuses because I have served my time on the rock pile. I started a Sam and Sue quilt and as it turned out it seems I lost all knowledge of how to quilt and squaring things up. Well I have never done applique before and didn't think that the squares might not be the same size after the applique. Anyway, I guess it is time to get them out of the closet and start again. You all really inspire me to get back in there and try again. Thanks to all of you for getting me going again.

(those darn jobs....oh to be independantly wealthy!!!!)
Woke this am to our first winter storm.....actually it snowed off and on all day yesterday where I live in the hills...but none stuck...Today there was 5" on the ground, turned to rain, tho, and very little left this evening... temperature is dropping though, so roads are apt to be very icy for the am drive to work! We actually were very fortunate to have such a long, beautiful autumn this year.....the best I've seen in the 14 years I've lived here.
Well, I must get the binding on the first wedding quilt.

To Woody and other interested canines..
I was visiting a house this weekend where the doggies had their very own special living room (not for humans, and it is a real room!) in the house. It was built especially for them with their own doggie door that goes out to their own private doggie patio and yard. They also have their own doggie shower. That may or maynot be good but it seems like it would be pretty cool. At least your own shower would be better than being wrestled with in a people bathtub or a cold hose outside or being banished to the outside because you stink.
I just thought you dogs with computer access should know what is out there...and what things that maybe you should consider demanding. Since I don't have a dog, I feel pretty safe starting trouble out there in the canine world.
I Love dogs, I just don't have one.

Good evening everyone. Well, I about fell off my chair with Buford's story. PIMP time. I was afraid I'd wake up my sleeping 4y/o DD. Makes me want to check the tubes and bottles near my shower, though.

Emma in England - oh yes, I know those nights. why is it that they sleep best smack on top of you? i have tried the Vicks route - my DD thinks it's "stinky." she still prefers me when she can't breathe. Altho I think a steam vaporizer helps. Good luck. Maybe you can pop onto the BB during one of those awake times. I was up 3-4 times the other night when she had an upset stomach. Calling - "Mommy, I need a bandaid!" When I asked why, she told me it was because her tummy hurt. It was hard not to laugh, but also felt sad that I really didn't have any magic medicine for that aching tummy...

LuWana in Vanc - Well, I've been to several quilt shops in Portland. Have taken classes at "The Quilt Shop" in Tualatin and "The Pine Needle" in Lake Oswego. Of course, for sales on fabric and for the most selection - it's the all day trip to Fabric Depot. NOt very well set up for quilters, per se - but oh man, the variety of fabric. When they do a 40% off sale - well, lets just say it's S.E.X., S.E.X., S.E.X.

Oh - hey, who is going to tell Jen in Bowling Green the truth about quilting and the time it takes? LuWana made a good start based on my experiences. I am such a new quilter that I don't want to start explaining. I might give Jen the wrong idea. Based on my procrastination level from garment sewing, well, I've had patterns and fabric go in and out of fashion several times before I've gotten something made. The beauty of quilting is that I can just buy stuff for the stash and not even have a project planned! Whoever thought up this system was smart.

I finished the baby outfit that I needed to make this weekend, and spent much of the day on tons of Sunday chores. Hope to start back onto my quilting tomorrow night.

Yakked long enough. Have fabulous Mondays, all.

BTW - there must be something about growing up in the Pacific Northwest - Was born in Tacoma, WA and spent much of rest of time in Portland, OR. This kid always said "Allee, allee, oxen free." Never even questioned whether or not that made sense. So, I'm with Yakima!

Just got home from the wedding that I was dreading in California. Actually My friend and I had a wonderful wonderful time. The people were very friendly and made us feel soooo welcome. They all love my son so much (he is a charmer) that they all told me such nice things. Of course moms are always open to hear nice things. The groom and his family really appreciated the effort for us to attend the wedding. At least that is what they said over and over. Who knows, maybe everyone's nose is growing!!lol We followed the bridal party and friends to the sports bar after the reception to watch Oregon and USC play. We two moms just enjoyed seeing our sons and their childhood friends being together again. And surprise, the bride and groom could not stay away, they came down and joined the fun. Oregon won the game so that made it even better. DS told me to cheer when they cheered. He coached us really good. Oregon won..yaaaay!!

On the way to the airport, I stopped to pick up a quilt that I hired to be machine quilted. I am afaid it is Jack Ripper time. I am sorely disappointed. It was not stretched so it has ruffles and bumps. DS thinks that I am a slow learner because everytime I am disappointed in the other persons work. "You can do it yourself," he says.

I was at a wonderful class today taught bt Peggy True, who is from the Concord area. she was teaching us how to make a 1/4 circle block, which is similar to the drunkards path. Real fun to make and the different designs are great. so, we were talking about Doreen Speckmann and I mentioned she was only 48 and everyone disagreed with me. "she has to be 58," they said. I said that I had read her obit and told them her birth date, but they all insist that the paper made a mistake and she had to be 58, not 48. so, since I have never met her, and I know some of you have, how old was she? And how old is her daughter? I do not like it when people say I am wrong!

Hi Everyone! This is Woody in Fresno, CA. My dad bought one of them paper thangs
with color pictures in them, guess what? There were dogs on it! There was one of my
relatives on the front cover....anyway....while Mom and Dad were gone I snuck a peek
at it. There was an article for bath (ugh!) stuff to use for after playing with the
black and white kitties. Here it is: (I'm keeping it for future reference)

From Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine (shhh....the doctor!)

1 quart 3% hydrogen peroxide
1/4 cup baking soda
1 teaspoon liquid soap

Wet yourself down first, have someone apply the above gook and have them work it into
your hair. Then sit still for 3 to 4 minutes, (I know, it's hard) have someone rinse
you off. Make sure that your humans DO NOT make extra for later use. It is UNSAFE to
bottle the gook.

Soooooo, next time you decide to play with the B&W kitties, be sure to have Mom and Dad
mix the gook.

Then, if I walk past the chair they are napping on they reach out and cuff me up alongside the head, for no reason at all. Well, there was that incident with their catnip mousie....

OhOh, got to go, Mom is out of the shower. This is the first time I ever saw her lock the door.

a great story. I just wanted to tell you all about this wonderful trip that
my friend and I took. This was our third year going to a Mary K. Ryan
workshop. We stayed in this fabulous Inn, ate far too much great food,
stayed up way to late sewing our hearts out and met some really wonderful
people. There were 18 of us in the group and we had a mom and daughter, a mom
and her 2 daughters (one came from Indiana) and another set of sisters (one
came from DC) and a the rest were just super people. Jill, thanks for
driving and lets make it four in a row!!! can't wait to go again.

We were able to work on whatever you wanted, or the planned project for the
weekend....."Judy In Arabia". I haven't pieced points like this in a long
time and it was fun (thank goodness for paper piecing!). I only got 2 blocks
completed...but that's cause I ran out of fabric ;-(

Mary and Jan are wonderful teachers and they make the weekend just fly by!
I recommend it to anyone who can get there. There is a really neat quilt shop
in Rutland that we visited also.....now I have more fabric ;-)

well enough from me.....nite to all....from a very happy, exhausted quilter in

A big thank you to whoever posted about figuring out the correct table height (I didn't take special note and can't remember who it was). I dangled my fingers and found I needed to bring my table up 6". while I was wondering how was the easiest way to do that, I read a posting (maybe the same one, maybe not!) about using paint cans. I just finished marking the quilting design for my borders and my back doesn't hurt a bit. I can't wait to do some cutting! This BB is so educational in so many ways. I've learned so much about using my computer and about quilting in just a couple of weeks.

I loved Sir Buford's story. I will remember to lock all doors when I take a shower!

Jen, your question made me LOL. I'm sure I'm not the only one who takes years and years to make a quilt ;-) First you must collect fabrics (FQ's or 1- and 2-yard pieces), find a pattern you like, make or buy templates, change your mind a million times, go back to buy more of one or two fabrics, only to find they've been discontinued in the 2 years it's taken to get this far..... And so it goes.

No doubt someone who has actually finished a few quilts and done a little Snoopy dancing could actually estimate manhours--mine are mostly UFO's! Perhaps when I retire....

gets bored and confused!
Saw the quilt that won best in show, it was a Crow in the Cabin (log cabin with black
squares going diagonal throught the block). It was done in browns and golds, very striking.
Also saw an interesting use of Dresden Plate block. One lady did a large four block, about
20inches square with a Dresden Plate centered in each block. And in the center of the plate
she had appliqued Sun Bonnet Sue. Now I am not a Sue fan, but using that center circle for
embrodiery or applique.......hmmmm. And I have one of those Dresden Express templets....
no,no, no, not another project!!!!! LOL.
Emma in England, grease that child up! Down South, when the kids are conjested like that,
mothers rub Vic's Vapor Rub on their chests, put them in a white t-shirt and put them to bed.
They breath the menthol vapors all night and helps open them up. It was sheer torture as
I remember it, but it worked and we did sleep despite our selves.
Why do I quilt? To keep in touch with all the ladies in my family who quilted and have passed on.
I was too much of a tom boy to sit and learn which I regret now. And I love to put the pieces together
and create beauty that will comfort and warm someone. The fact that I can create something useful,
something so tactile, that you can roll up in and snuggle and rub your face on the softness of the fabric,
trace the quilting with your fingers, feel the coolness as you first slide under it.....ooooohhhh ahhhh.
I just love quilts!!!!!!!!!
Good night all and God bless,
Tracy

Hi Aunties of the chat page, your mascot Buford here. Mom and Dad are not around, and I have been banished to my dawg house for the past two weeks for cozying up to a skunk, but I just crept inside to use Mom's 'puter.

Know what happened here last Friday?- well for sure, lots of things happen around here, but this sure even embarrassed a savvy "man about town" like me!! I even had to cover my appealing soft brown eyes with my big floppy ears, (but I did peek out of the side of them, shhhh- don't tell)!!

My Mom, wanted to make a quick run to the quilt store before my kid Nicky came home from school on the bus. She jumped in the shower, and when she turned the taps off, that little nekked puppy Ethan ( Just when do these little critters grow fur anyway?) was screaming his little noggin off.

Mom grabbed a little itty bitty towel and ran out here in to the living room to tell Ethan that he had not been abandoned anywhere, and then suddenly she heard our glass doors slide open. Scared the stuffing right out of her it did. She jumped around and screamed, hanging on to her little itty bitty towel, and there was our Nicky with his new bus driver to meet Mom!!

Mom mummbled something like "Oops sorry, you caught me at the wrong moment", and I don't think he even heard her cuz he took off like an Olympic runner, never to be seen or heard of since.!!

Then Mom, ran back to the bathroom and was scolding Nicky for scaring her, and rubbing her special hair conditioner in her hair, cuz it is very curly and she likes it to be smooth.(like me)

Suddenly her hair was sticking up just like those punk rockers we see on our TV, and then Mom was yelling like that bus driver had come back again. She must have some secret scary medicine for the neighbor down the road who took a "pot shot" at me last year, cuz all I saw was a tube of pink cream flying across the floor and it had the words "Shrinks Emma Royds" on it!!

Mom had to get back in the shower three times, before she stopped looking scary like a Halloween witch, and her hair still looks funny- but also something else looks different- I think her head has gone smaller too!!!!

Oops- I hear the RV coming- looks like the folks are home from their trip, - got to sneak out the back door and back to my dawg house again- nice talking to yer!!

PS: Don't tell Mom this was me, I phoned one of my favorite Auntie's- can't say who, but she drinks tea and talks funny, and she said I could post, so blame her, or I will be in my dawg-house for another two weeks!!

Luv Sir Buford.xoxo

So nice to read the BB each day and see what everyone is up to. The previous post mentioned a block for Ridgely, what is that for? What kind of block does she need? Was so sorry to hear of her loss. Saw the pic of the quilt the serial quilters made for her and it brought tears to my eyes.

Keep quilting!

Yakima, "Allee Allee oxen free"??? OK, remember, I am from

So what is it, and where did it come from, maybe "Ask Jeeves"

Hello all. Just returned from a very tiring journey to Yorkshire for the weekend. Lovely to spend some time with my family again, but very tiring travelling with two children. Just grabbing two minutes to see what everyone has been up to.
Why do I quilt? I just love all aspects of it. Collecting the material, deciding what to do with it etc. But most of all I love to see people's faces when you give it to them, it makes it all worth it. Mind you, I am having great difficulty in finishing a wall hanging for my mother-in-law for Christmas, I just can't get round to it.
Got to go. My youngest has an awful cold, and she can't sleep she is so bunged up. She is waking every ten minutes or so, has a cuddle and then goes back down - it's going to be a long night!!
Enjoy your day
Emma
And yes, it's still raining isn't it Rosemary?

The horrible play will be over tonight and I will be so happy!!! This has been one very bad experience. I would tell you some horror stories, but I don't even know where to begin. It's that bad.

The weather here in the city is absolutely gorgeous. Sunny and cool. We went to the Yankee game yesterday afternoon (very sad, lost to Tampa Bay...), but it was so nice to be outdoors. Today DH has football on the TV and is making chili in the crockpot. I just have to tell this funny story on him--he was in the kitchen putting all the ingredients in the pot, I was around the corner. All of a sudden I hear a popping noise and a yelp from him. I look around the corner and he's standing there, covered in tomato paste! It was all over his face and chest and the countertop and the floor. The lid of the can apparently didn't get cut right so he pushed on it to loosen it and I guess the can went off like a cannon! I was laughing so hard I was crying. The only thing I could think was I have to get a picture of this! So I scream, "stand still" and go get the camera--he thought I was going to go get towels, but no, I just wanted a picture to complete his humiliation!!! About an hour later Eponine, the cat, went walking past and DH noticed tomato paste on her ear...

Mary--there are two wonderful quilt shops in Spokane, WA that you mustn't miss! One is called "The Quilting Bee"--located in the Spokane Valley east of town. The other is "Pacific Crest" located in the north part of town on Division St. Both are in the book of course and both are wonderful. I've missed them desperately since I moved away three years ago. So far haven't found anything in the Portland, OR area to compare. Theresa in Portland--any suggestions?

All the comments about children with LD struck home. My 19-year old son has struggled throughout his school career. It's true that LD children are very bright and need to learn in a different way from the "norm."

Speaking of the DS--he just shipped out to the Navy this past week and I've wasted no time cleaning out his room which now become the guest room. And the guest room (which is larger) is now my sewing/quilting/crafts room. Yippee!! There's a lot to be said for an empty nest.

I do enjoy the postings here on the BB so much and feel as though I know you all. Can't post often however, since I occasionally read the BB from work and seldom have time to sit down and type at home.

If anyone is attending the Washington State Quilters show in Spokane next month I'll be there. I'll wear the YYY!!

Happy Sunday everyone, - mine started off okay, lovely morning, cool but great drying weather so I decided to hang out my laundry. Decided my clothes pins looked pretty summer weary, and attempted to soak them in bleach and hot water for a while. I use the plastic ones, but also treasure my British wooden "soldier" type(the ones you make little craft dolls with). I bought them in England last year, mainly because they remind me of my Mom, because that is what she always used.

Well, I now have about three dozen clothes pins all in halves- they all broke in two. Now I know why I never became a scientist!!

Doing things your Mom did, reminds me of a cute story I once read or heard. A newly married young woman wanted to impress her new hubby, and decided to cook a roast beef dinner. She took the meat, and sliced off a good inch from the end of it. Her curious hubby asked why she did that. "Because Mom always did it" was her reply, "But I don't know the reason". So she asked her Mom, and the reply she got was the same "Your Grammy always did it,but I don't know why- I just followed suit, and have done it for years, but I will ask her". Grammy's answer was, "Oh, your Grandpa and I were so poor, we only had a small roasting pan, so I always cut the meat to fit it in the roaster!!
Rosie- hope you have fun stripping in the living room- you and Doni are a good pair!!!- LOL ( Tease, tease)

To my dear friend Sue in Nottingham UK. David is a very fine young man, - and the reason is because you and Neil support him so thoroughly- LOVED your post!!

Welcome to Momred- wish I could help you on your Snowball block problem, but I am sure before the end of the day, one or many of our really talented members will have contacted you- I leave that stuff to the experts, but hope you will continue to post.

Why do I love quilting.?- First and foremost, I continue to try and grow in memory of my best friend, a very adept quilter, who lost her battle with BC 3 years ago. The second reason is because I have to let Ivon see me quilting a little, because he once asked me what all we talk about here, and I said "Quilting of course- what else would you think?"- LOL!!! Got to keep things in the right perspective you know.

Ursela, glad to hear your little boy is fine, - my daughter had the same thing as a toddler. We were really worried because she was not even attempting to talk at 20 months. Had the myringotomy in both ears, and was speaking words in a week, and has never stopped since, and she is 22 now. Her favorite sentence is "Mom can I.......- usually attached to things that cost money!!

Loved all the posts, and the jokes- since I am reknown around here for being a speeding ticket collector, I might use the last version at my next "interview"- I am sure there will be one. It's not that I speed really, but I live in a village, and all the people here still drive at haycart speed!!!

Have a great day everyone,
Hugs to all,
Celia

The beginning of the school year is always a very busy time for me, just been lurking occasionally. For those of you with children who have been labeled LD, remember the label is needed to get them the help they need. I work with many of these kids because the basis of most learning disabilities is language processing. Think of it more as a learning difference than a disability, these kids can learn as well as anyone, they just do it a little differently. Unfortunately, they are usually very visual learners and so much that is done in school is auditory in nature - that's the only thing that makes it a disability. I forget who had the 7 year-old child being diagnosed, but you might want to request that the speech-language pathologist also do an assessment. I spend the bulk of my time teaching these children how to compensate, even though I am still thought of as the "speech" teacher.

Loon, I quilt for all of the mental health reasons which have been posted, and because I love it. And because it is the best way I have found to pass a little love and a little of myself on to someone else.

If you hear cheers coming from Idaho, it's DH and I. DS#2 finally has a "real" teaching job after starting his second year as a sub in Olympia. Refused to consider moving this summer, and with over 400 certified teachers subbing in the area, a permanent job is hard to come by. He is now a biology teacher at Timberline High School. Yea! Another child gainfully employed with benefits. We especially appreciate it at this point because DH finally got so upset with DOE that he quit his job, so we are not in as good a position to help out with emergencies.

We start our spud harvest break at noon on Wednesday, then back to school on Oct. 11. We cancelled our trip to the Oregon coast until we see how finances go with DH playing househusband. We are going for a quick weekend to Spokane to see DS#1 and his fiance. Any quilt shops I just shouldn't miss, keeping in mind we'll only be there two days?

Granny Connie, you are in my prayers.

To assure you that it is, I had asked of there was coffee fabs in WA state because that seems to be the coffee center of the universe. Have you done anything with all those butterfly prints, yet? All I have done is cut off a hunk to use a as pocket square to wear to chuch this AM. My DBIL happened to have a tie made out of the very same fabric, so I gave it to him. BTW, email me and we'll swap or something.

Ursula in Hawaii - thought about your dear son and am glad to hear all is okay at your house. He is okay now, how are you? It must've been heartbreaking for you while waiting for the Dr. to come out from surgery.
Nancy in NY - that list of Benefits of being a Woman sure hit the spot here!!! All of those "men" things are sooooo true! Thank goodness I now know how to move things around on this computer, thanks to all of you BBers. I moved your policemen jokes over to my Microsoft Word and plan to send them along to my kids later on.
Really liked the last joke LOL!
Ronna - your Iguana is fine - keep his tail the way it is.
Why do I quilt? I have no idea. Years ago when the kids were little and I wanted to - rarely found time - it was to make something useful for the house. Now I find that I like the "socialness" of quilt clubs, but I enjoy the wee hours of the night when I can't sleep and I am in my sewing room cutting out my fabric. I like having my own little space where I can forget the time and just cut, sew, watch t.v., etc. to my heart's content. I have one quilt (one of my first ones) that I call my "Atlanta Braves Quilt" - I quilted it while watching Braves games all Spring, Summer and Fall. It is a pinwheel pattern. Quilting is an escapism for me.
I still drink more water than I used to and I think of "you'all" when taking a drink.
Sue in Nottingham UK - your story of your trials and tribulations with your son's ongoing LD problems is heartwarming. Glad to hear that it is gradually getting solved.
Interesting to read about sewing table and work table heights, both here and on the BB. I plan to check both areas when I go upstairs to my sewing room.
You'all have a nice Sunday - I know I am!!!!

If they don`t learn soon they could find themselves in a pie...DH spent all last weekend making a lovely run for under there hutch. He is not the best of DIY but he does try ( very trying)!! It does look good, but apart from the Guinea pig using it and only because he fell down the hole they have not touched it. Help before they are made into a pie. Well, the wind was VERY interesting yesterday.
Outside, in a back yard, we got the dye and the fabric stuffed in the jelly jars by noon. After our lunch break we got the bucket dye baths set up and our fabric sunk in it... and then the wind decided to show us what it could REALLY do!!! So, we moved onto the screened porch for the "freelance" portion of the class. Funny bunch of ladies, great sense of humor and camraderie. I so enjoyed teaching them that I almost (ALMOST!) felt guitly getting paid! But since I bought $100 worth of prepatory fabric Thursday, and went beserk in the Moses Lake quilt shop Friday and spent another $100 and got paid $150 for teaching the class... I was never what you would call "gifted" in math but even I can see that those amounts don't add up to a DH's amusement...
Okay... two of the fabrics I got had to do with the coffee theme because one of you I have been in sales/swaps/contact with once told me to keep my eyes open for coffee themed fabric. But can I REMEMBER which one of you? Do I still have the info on file? NO!!!!!!!! So, I have your coffee fabric now, but "allee-allee oxen free" as we bellowed when kids playing hide and seek!

Good Morning! School started and I haven't been able to spend as much time here as in the summer. I enjoy catching up on week-ends.
Snoopy Dance! I finished my "I Spy" Quilt and love it. My DD is sleeping under it now.
Went to an auction yesterday. The lady was a quilter and there were hundreds of boxes of fabric, FQ's, large pieces, squares cut, strips cut, you name it. Made you think about what your own auction will look like. I bought 5 boxes and only spent $3.50. Once they sold all the box lots on the yard, the yard was filled with a second and a third round of box lots. Was so much fun getting home and seeing what all I really bought. Plus there were 900 printed feed sacks and 300 white feedsacks. I thought this would be my chance to get soome, but of course dealers were everywhere. They were in bundles of 8 to a pack and going for $35.00 - $50.00 a bundle. It was a fun day.
Pieced a lap quilt for my DSIL who has breast cancer. Got the pattern from a site that was suggested on KK and I love it. Pieced it in a week-end. Hopefully will get it sandwiched this week and start quilting.
Today I take my DS shopping for something to wear to homecoming. Haven't taken him shopping in years, he hates it! He has been doing his own shopping since he turned 16. Before that it was a lot easier to bring stuff home and return it if he didn't like it than to take him out to the store. Hopefully we survive this. Then I go to watch my DD soccer game U6. What a great time. Those little ones are so funny playing soccer. It is so much fun to watch.
Have a good day to all!

Subject: Hi Everyone
E-mail Address: Ohioccb@prodigy.com

Morning everyone - couldn't sleep so I've been catching up on the BB, which I hadn't read since Friday morning.

JENNY IN NYC - went to see For Love of the Game yesterday and the whole family loved it! Enough baseball for DH and DS to be happy, enough relationship story for DD and me to be sniffling and wiping our eyes. DS (he's 11) said there's too much kissing, though. Anyway, we all loved the movie. I spotted a bright yellow shirt directly behind home plate - was that you? It was in the earlier part of the movie - maybe about the second or third inning of the game.

Serial Quilters met Friday, of course, just Kathy, Just Me Sue and Backyard Susan. We're waiting for Bev to get back from Hawaii and Linda is at the show in Flint, MI. Phillip's Susan and Nancy are working Fridays and Judy's on vacation. We had a major debate about cutting sashing strips - Backyard and Just Me in favor of cutting two strips and piecing them together so a large piece of fabric is leftover, Kathy and me voting for cutting the long strip from the length of the fabric so there's no piecing. Susan won (it's her quilt, after all) and granted it's a scrappy quilt, but it definitely proves we all have different ways and reasons for doing things!

WHY DO I QUILT? I have found over the years my reasons have changed. At first, I think it was just because I thought it would be an interesting thing to know how to do. I learned quilting backwards - the quilting part first, then later the piecing. For a long time the handquilting was my favorite part. Now I think I have switched to enjoying the piecing the best. My interest in color has grown, too.

For me quilting is peaceful - I can enjoy a good movie or TV show while I'm working, or I can tune those out and simply think about whatever is racing through my mind at that particular time. I often find myself planning my next project - how I'm going to do a certain pattern next, or work with certain colors. Other times I solve the problems of the world in my mind - if only those s
