IT'S OVER!!! Nationals are over, and what a relief! I am so exhausted - the dressing room was DOWNSTAIRS from the auditorium, so I spent the day up and down, and up and down. The auditorium was nicely air conditioned, but the halls and bathrooms and dressing rooms were hot and humid (not too mention sweaty and smelly LOL).

All eight of DD's group routines earned first places in their categories. Seven of the eight finished in the overall standings! The girls were SO pleased. In addition, our junior and pee-wee teams did just as well! There were 28 positions available in the overall standings, and our teams took 14 of them YAHOOOOO!!!! In addition, DD's team won the senior division Judge's Choice award!

So it was a great day....thanks so so much to all the well-wishers and congratulations. DD and I appreciate you so much!

MINOR CRISIS: The only crisis we had this time is DD's buckle breaking on her tap shoe five numbers before she was to perform. Have you ever tried to get a safety pin through leather? My fingers are still sore. Then the only glue I had was from her fake eyelashes, so I smeared that on - and it was white. So then I took brown eyeshadow and tried to cover the white up so it would match the shoe. Then another mom found some superglue so we loaded that on. Last, we tied clear elastic around her foot and the shoe, so if the buckle broke again, the elastic would (hopefully) still keep the shoe on her foot. It worked!

DD has one more night of a summer ballet class (Monday night) and then we have two weeks off before new teams start up again. They're already excited about starting fresh - these girls want new music, new routines, new costumes NOW!

Hopefully I'll be able to get back to quilt related things now. I still have all my purchases from Quilt America flung around the studio. I'm planning to spend the afternoon sorting through it all and putting it away.

JFK: Leen in Texas and I are obviously contemporaries - I was in fifth grade too! Our school gave an annual Carnival to raise money for United Way, and just a couple hours before it was to start, our headmistress gathered the middle school into Mrs. Hammond's room and told us the president had been shot. The room was a rectangle, with the door on a long side of the rectangle - I was standing in the upper right hand corner from where you entered the room, and the American flag was hanging right above my head.

We had a foreign exchange student in the senior class who was crying so hard about it she fell down the stairs and tore the ligaments in her knee - she was on crutches for months, and I thought of JFK every time I saw her swinging down the halls.

Also vivid in my memory is two days later. I was sitting in our den opening my birthday presents and the TV was on. All of a sudden my dad was shouting "They shot him! They shot the ba-----!" I thought Dad was yelling about some TV show, and was a bit miffed Dad was paying more attention to the TV than to my birthday presents, but then I realized he was talking about Jack Ruby.

A couple years ago we did the "vivid memory" test at the college where I'm a sorority adviser. These younger folk seem to choose either the Challenger or Berlin Wall as their vivid memories. I'm not a political fan of the Kennedys either, but my heart certainly goes out to them with the tragedies they have endured. To my knowledge, the first "major" tragedy was the airplane crash of their oldest son, Joe, Jr., back in the 40s? Haven't caught the news yet, but I'm sure many stations and papers will be listing timelines of all the events in the lives of this poor family.

Thanks for allowing me some brag time about DD...Cassi in Ohio

Hi All, Cape Cod is very sad today, hearing the flub of helicopters looking for JFK JR.It seems as if tragedy seems to multipy in some families and never touch others.I still remember when JFK died. I was in the 6th grade, growing up on Nantucket island, a place that LOVED JFK. when the news was heard of his assasination, school was let out, and walking home was one of the saddest experiences I ever remember. People were crying in the streets. My heart goes out to the family of JFK and certainly to the Bissettes. On a lighter note, Ellen, I would like to be on Cape Cod, as a mermaid, because I really am one at heart. I have been working on Chistmas gifts, and have two wallhangings done! Also I am plugging along..hand-quilting my guild challenge project. Have a good restof the weekend all, and stay cool! Barb on Cape Cod

I was only just over 3&1/2 when JFK died, but it is one of my earliest memories. My 3 older sisters were all at school, and I was home with my mother who watched soaps all day, as she sewed.(she is a seamstress) I remember feeling very sad, and scared, as me and Mom watched the news all afternoon and learned that our president had been shot. Felt much the same way today, watching the news! I remember, too, about JFK, that all my sisters came home from school crying, as it had been announced over the PA systems at their schools. I've never been much of a political fan of the Kennedy's, and I think there has been alot of immoral behavior, and infidelity in their clan, but I have always admired Caroline and John John. They seemed to have steered away from that kind of life, and it probably wasn't easy, growing up in the public eye.

I did get some things accomplished tonight. After getting my hair chopped of today, I visited with Sue in North Pole for awhile, then came home and sewed together a snowman block to test my design for the block swap, then cut fabric to make at least 24 of them. Any update on how many will be swapping?

I've been thinking about Ellen's map. There are two things I'm fanatical about... one being Blueberries, the other being the Pooh bear! And since I look more like Pooh than a blueberry... put a honeypot on the map, just about smack dab in the middle of Alaska, Fairbanks!

I really should get to bed now, we're getting together at Martha's tomorrow to dye fabrics. I've never done it before, been looking forward to it all week! Good Nite all! Raye-Jean

Went to Redmond, WA Friday night and stayed with BB friend, Julie. We went to the BPQ quilt show Sat. morn. We had so much fun. I really over did the S.E.X. DH is gonna hang me with the fabric I bought today. I am afraid to let him see it. Well, that isn't so bad, it's the Visa bill that will make him mad. If you don't hear from me in a month, I'm dead. Yummy fabric to die for? Books? I won't be doing any shopping for quite awhile.
I was in the 8th grade in reading class when the Principal announced that JFK had been shot. I was working for the DuPont Co. when I heard that Bobby Kennedy had been shot. No, I will never forget where I was or how I felt. I remember the same things about Princess Diana. Bought a piece of the blue fabric with white roses today.
Queenie Bee, where else would a bee wear her YYY? Of course, you must wear it on your antenna.
Please don't let your kittens/cats outside. It is so dangerous for them. My spoiled rotten cats (10) are very happy indoors and they are so much more affectionate.
Take care and may God bless you and yours!

On the day JFK was shot I was at school. I had just finished my lunch and we were waiting for some of the "town" kids to come back from lunch so our dance team could practice. The first one back, Sherry, told us the news. School was dismissed. From then on I sat glued to the TV. Politically, I have never been a Kennedys fan, but as a memeber of the human race how can you not be caught up in the dymanics of the family. It seems that Jackie did a wonderful job in raising her children. I have especially been fond of Caroline and John Jr. Maybe it goes back to those precious little children having lost a father so young. Maybe it is because they have grown up in the lime light and seemed so unspoiled by it. The children seemed so gracious to the public when their mother died. I have been in awe of how well they have led their lives. And the Bissets, what grief for them!

On the lighter side, I do hope Dr. Ruth will soon be feeling better. I am sure her antics must be annoying. She is kind of a crazy lady! Please keep us posted.

DH is gone this weekend so I thought "I will quilt". Wrong. I left the house for 20 minutes, and arrived back 11 hours later. I had fun tho, hanging out with DDIL and the two DGD's. DS this joined us this evening and we drove around looking for property for sale. Tomorrow DGD's and I will make things to enter in the fair.

Yes, Julie. I do remember vividly where I was when I heard that JFK was dead. In Dallas, on the parking lot of the company where my DH worked.
My DS, one year old and DD, one month old were with me. DH and his co-workers were leaving on a deer hunting trip and had all their guns and gear in the back of a truck. Police stopped them on their way out of town but let them go on. I took the kids home and watched TV for days. I will never ever forget the sound of the drums in the funeral procession or JFK, Jr. saluting his dads coffin as it passed by.

Dr. Ruth isn't doing to well at the funny farm; she ripped the hanging sleeve off the back of a quilt, proclaiming that the quilt was innocent and didn't deserve to be hanged. Then she told the psychiatrist to wrap himself up in the quilt, hoping he would become permanently "shrink-wrapped."

VQF: Well I guess I should have stayed at home today. It was so hot I thought I had died and gone to the "other" place by mistake!! I don't know what the official high temperature was was it was in the high 90's! I felt like my blood was boiling and I got weak, dizzy and my face was a crimson color all day. I carried lots of water and wet, cold washcloth with me to wipe my face and wrists with as I remembered what it was like last year. But I just didn't help. Lots of people were smarter than me and stayed at home I guess because there was not the crowds of people that I expected. Also I don't believe they had as many quilts on display. There were a couple that really caught my eye but most of them didn't move me too much...it must have been the heat. I bought a few pieces of fabric and John Flynn's Quilting Frame Kit. Took a short trip on trying it out and didn't do too badly for first try. DH says no problem, he can get the 2 X 2's that I need to put it all together and have it ready in no time. Has anyone on the BB used it, and how do you like it?

Only 10 more days until OHIO 99 so I will probably not get to use it until after I return.

Mammogram yesterday was excruciating! Brought tears to my eyes and I'm really NOT a cry-baby. Try to squish a 3-4 inch mass of delicate, tender flesh into 1/4" pancake is NOT painless!! OUCH< OUCH...please hurry it up!!! Why does it take so long to take a picture? Once they release my crying breast the pain was gone, granted...but the pain!! I'd rather have a baby!!

Go to see my Optometrist on Monday. Hope he can help me this time.

Haven't read the CHAT page yet, since 6:00 p.m. yesterday. I hope you all haven't been so busy that it takes me past midnight to read it all.

Faith & Bill: I am praying without ceasing for all of you. Keep the faith, Faith! Love you.

It has been a heart wrenching day hearing about JFK Jr and his wife and sister-in-law. I wasn't born when his father and uncle were shot. I will be off work for a couple of weeks (yeah) babying DH. He had a disk removed from his neck last week and is now home recuperating. I'm hoping to get some sewing done and also clean (yuk) my house! May even get DH to cut out some denim squares for me; he's already getting pretty bored with movies.

Been drinking water with everyone. I'm trying to keep off the weight I lost in the past year & a half. And yes I did drink water while loosing, so it must work.

QB Nancy and I drove 100 mi down 101 to Cloverdale, Or. Stopped for breakfast
and then started shopping. We decided to do the safari fat quartering, she for a
nine patch and me for flannel for the manly flannel fabrics for DSIL's quilt. We hit
the 5th quilt shop at 4 pm, tired loaded with fat quarters and good hints. The best
hint I got was from Creative Fabrics at Wheeler where they told me to double stitch
the flannel pieces because they have heard a lot of horror stories about woven flannel
pieces fraying right out. I remember in the 70's when people were using a lot of poly
the recommendation was for 1/2" seam allowance, so guess we'll redo our templates and
go that route with our flannel.
The sun shone, the traffic was heavy, lunch was great--and all the time DH thought I was
garage sale-ing. Wonder how he got that impression?? 8^}. There are two more shops on
the safari before we can register for the big MAMA drawing, but I
can't drive any more this weekend. Betty in Oregon

Haven't been to the Chat Page for a while and I get the idea that someone is building a map of the quilters who pop in an dout of here. If I am on the right track, put me down as a tortoiseshell kitty in the heart of Ohio. (Don't know who came up with that designation but if Ohio had a heart it would be a bit west and north of the middle of the state.)

Talking to Strangers ... the Sequel. I posted a story a while ago about meeting a fellow BBer in a quilt shop in the big city. She drove a long distance to my house today and we spent hours and hours and hours gabbing about quilts. She brought along her own 'trunk show" of UFOs and we found we had lots in common as far as attitudes toward quilting go. She is a hand piecer and a hand quilter and I do all of my work by machine but the love of fabric kept us chattering away like lost lost cousins ... or, dare I say, sisters of the cloth?

Renee,
Sewing with GOOD flannel isn't too tricky. Just DON'T pre-wash it, it will get to stretchy to work with easily. I suggest that you invest in some nice thick flannel. The thin stuff has to be quilted too close together in order to hold up to use.
I think it is a great choice for a guy quilt!! It isn't much different to care or than a cotton quilt. Not to mention that Alaska IS the place for flannel!! :)

Hi all, hope everyone is having a super day. Of course we are all praying for the Kennedy story to have a happy ending but I am not so sure it will come out that way. My familys prayers go out to them all.

Well it looks like DS is off to college in Alaska. It will be quite an adventure for him. First time for him to be gone from home so it will be an adjustment for both of us. I am thinking this is the perfect opportunity for me to make him a quilt. So now to the questions!!
I am thinking a flannel quilt would be nice and warm for him but is flannel hard to quilt with? I am a fairly new quilter so have used cottons up to this point. Is flannel a lot different when it come to material shrinkage? And, is flannel a good choice for a guys quilt and is it harder to care for? I thank you all for any guidance you could give me. I know this is the best place in the world for support from others.

It's just to darn hot again here in Mass. The power went out again this morning. I am trying like heck to keep my poor little doggies cooled down. They have gone thru lots of ice cubes today!!

I am joining all you ladies in the water brigade!! I learned quickly though to start chugging it down early in the morning. It can be a very long trip to the bathroom at 2 and 3 in the morning!!! So far have not lost any weight but sure must be clean on the inside!!!! Have any of you hit the point of just being stuck? You lose a few pounds and no matter what you do you just cannot lose anymore? I would be interested to know how you get past that. Very depressing!!!

Again, TIA for your help. You all have a great day and hugs to you all.

Susan in NJ is right--it is HHH here!!! It was so lovely and cool this week--it was a trick! The heat was waiting to pounce again. Wah. Yesterday afternoon and evening we were in Old Greenwich, CT on the beach for DH's company picnic. It was very nice, there was a breeze off the water and lots of lobster for dinner! Then we got on the train back into the city and encountered the humid heat. Yucky. I want to be rich enough to have a summer house at the beach so I can get the heck out of this town!

Yes, I am the Jane Seymour one. I admit it! Please don't hate me. Although if you want to come throw quilts over my head you're welcome to. I'm sure your quilts look a darn sight better than this blasted wall hanging I'm working on! I didn't say I thought I looked like her--I've been TOLD I do. I think it's funny--I think it all started with my high school senior picture--I had this butt long wavy hair. I've also been told I'm too skinny. One time we were lying in bed and DH put his hand over my ribs (which were poking out) and said, "booby" I hit him over the head and told him to try again! To this day he swears he knew it was my ribs and not a boob. Likely story.

I would go meet another BB'er in a heartbeat. I met Susan in NJ and Michelle at a quilt show here in the city and they were both very nice. Especially Susan who recommended some books and explained tea dying to make my yellow fabric behave. I hope everyone on the BB gets a chance to meet a fellow BB'er at least once.

Hugs to the woman who has lost her kitty. (sorry, I can't remember your name) Anytime I've had a kitty wander off they've come back, usually after having their butt kicked by another cat...but they came home. A dear friend of mine was reunited with a cat of hers after two months! Don't give up yet!

"MALE ATHLETES SHOULD EMULATE THESE WOMEN"
To the editor:

Regarding the Women's World Cup soccer tournament,
I noticed several things:

---There were no player assaults or brawls.
---There was no trash-talking.
---There were no convicted felons on the team.
---There was no choking of coaches or assaults of
officials.
---There were no cases of egotistical self-promotion
instead of teammanship.
---There was no drunken, thuggish fan behavior.
---There were no player strikes or lockouts.
---There were no charges of cheating.
---There was no kicking of cameramen.
---There was no performance-enhancing drug use.
---There were no cases of players wagering on
the tournament.
---There were no league leading, penalty minutes.
---There were no sullen blowoffs of fans or press.
---There were no multi-year, multi-million dollar
contract signings.
Oh, and . . . There were no men on the team.
An interesting lesson, it seems.

Spent Friday at the VQF. Not a YYY in sight. Of course the heat might have had something to do with my eyesight. Took Margaret Millers class on Blockbuster Quilts. Great teacher. What a sense of humor! Now out to the lake to cool off. All you people in the SW, why don't you hold onto this heat? We don't need this hhh 90 degree weather. Especially since none of us have air-conditioning. I won't hold it against yo'all if you promise to send supplies to make Mexican food. You'll be held hostage by my gripping until care packages with the ingredients for a show stopper Mexican meal shows up at my doorstep!
Until then, gripe gripe gripe!!! Happy quilting(if you can do it in this weather). Krazkte@aol.com

I want to get on the map too, there seems to be quite a few right now from PA, but we're pretty spread out. Put me down as a female DR. Doolittle with greyhounds, I'm really a nurse but I like animals better than most people any day. LOL Except for quilters , of course!! Place me right below Corning, New York and above Williamsprt, PA about 50 miles each way. Actually have to get off this computer and get ready for work soon, YECH!
Have been working on making sure all my Y2k swaps have been sent out properly and if anyone is expecting one from me and hasn't gotten it, let me know as I think I'm done except for waiting for the last ones to straggle in. Have been inspired by the weight loss group talk into trying to make better food choices and drinking more water but I rationalize by thinking that many cups of melting ice in my ceffine free, diet Pepsi or Coke counts for quite a lot!!LOL Always have a huge glass of something in any room I'm in or on the desk at the nurses station at work.

Anyone reading the Chat Page would know immediately that we're STRANGE. (Some of us are stranger than others.) Do "normal" people test electric dog collars, hum suggestively in elevators, call sweet little ladies bird turds, or go on a chocolate and water diet? Wasn't it just yesterday that one of the BB'ers was taken away to the funny farm?

BTW, are Krispy Kreme donuts on the BB diet? There's a new shop that just opened here (just east of Phoenix) and last night at 10:30 the place was packed inside, and cars lined up to go to the drive-thru window. They give away free samples, so fresh they're still hot. I like to think the donuts have holes in the middle 'cause that's where they sucked out all the calories.

Deep thought: If the elegant Japanese fabric you're working on turns into a T.O.A.D. (trashed object abandoned in disgust) does that mean you're disoriented?

Why be normal?

How could we BB ers be strangers? It's true that talking online can be dangerous, but IMHO it depends on the "type" of chat room you are into. My computer is programmed not to allow ANYONE to go to "those" rooms, and I do mean anyone. My DH wanted to check out those sites that were in the news about building bombs and stuff, but our computer wouldn't let him!! He wanted to see if there was really a danger to our kids. Although they are not tempered like that at all. The other safeguard on our system is that it is in a public area (our entry way room), if anyone is online, there are others constantly checking what they are doing. I'm the only one who knows the password and I don't have problems with any addiction except quilting and craft sites!!
Put me on the map too, I think I must be a little yellow taxi cab. About halfway down and 2/3 rds east in PA (right middle between Harrisburg and Williamsport) in Northumberland near Sunbury. Sre you going to somehow put a photo of hte map on the BB? Maybe on the quilt picture site?

Jenny in NYC, aka Jane Seymour (pretty sure she's the one) is darling, petite and young -met her at a show in NYC this spring - tell your son that meeting quilters over the net is different - have met a number of folk at quilt shows and spent wonderful time with two CA bber's when I was in San Francisco a while back, plus found my local guild after a move thru the Y2K swap - quilt shows and shops are NOT the same as bars.
Congrats to Cassi and DD - mom gets lots of the credit for support, costumes, travel and being the mom.
Patty -good going on your ribbon - a nice encouragement for future work
Maybe the chat board will be a tiny bit quieter over the end of the month, with all the folks at Ohio '99, unless some are bringing laptops!

CASSIE IN OHIO---Congrats on daughter's success!!!A good friend of mine(& a quilter!) has one DD who stayed with the dance (she'll be a junior in college this fall). The DD works at Wildhorse Saloon (in Nashville) waiting tables & giving Line Dancing lessons there. Next month she may get to go to Brazil (as in .... South America!!!) to be in a Dance extravaganza/festival, representing WildHorse Saloon/Gaylord Entertainment!!!! You just never know where that dance stuff'll take ya. . . . .

DRINKING ALL THAT WATER----Hey ladies, I'm no so sure it's a good idea to drink more than 64oz a day. I once read, years ago, that we shouldn't intake more than 8 oz per hour unless outside working in summer heat. Y'all might want to check on that in case my info is outdated. Just a caution---too much of a good thing can hurt.

I like the straw idea someone posted. Ice cold also helps. So does a squeeze of lemon or lime. Our tap water can taste pretty rank sometimes. The Brita water filter/pitchers are really good and I'm thinking about getting one. We had Culligan water filter at our old house and that was nice!! Best water I ever tasted (or, shall I say---didn't taste.)

Gotta go nuke the yard for weeds. I know, I know, bad chemicals and all that, but at least we don't have the monthly ChemLawn service like all my other neighbors. Right now we have more weeds than grass. Our yard looks so bad that I'm afraid they may take up a collection!

My husband left for London last night. It is so wierd not having him here. I don't think he's ever gone away without me before. We've only been married 6 yrs. (I was widowed before I met him) I however am the one usually going someplace. I sure do hope he has a good time. I have plenty to do. I'm going to run out to an auction in 15 min. I like to go look at the old quilts and see what fabric is there. This one list several quilts. Does anyone else like to buy old quilts?

Tell me more about Ohio 99. My husband is thinking about going to his home for a weekend (Cincy area), perhaps I can time it with Ohio 99. Where and when is it. I sure would love to meet some fellow BB friends. I'm going to have to make a YYY. Don't have a clue how, but will find the directions.

Loved the New Dog Cross Breeds and Preparation for Parenthood. Printed both out to share. I'm saving the Parenthood one for my Marriage and Family Living Clas. Think it will be a fun introduction to the parenting unit. Of course the teenagers won't believe a word of it.

So here's hope that your kitten will return (all this water has flooded my brain so I can't remember who was looking for her cat). I'm already on my second 12 oz glass and its only 7:10 AM. That kitten insisted that 6:30 was time to wake up...sometimes I wish that he had stayed lost.(LOL)Ah well at least I can get on the BB at this hour. Lord here I've been neglecting reading the BB due to some major rain storms and I see you all are on the water kick too. My Dr. recommended to me about 3 weeks ago to by 3 liter bottles of bottled water and drink all 3 of them every day. Then refill the same bottles it helps with measuring the water and its a control issue as well. I still haven't made it to the third liter yet but I am trying. Being here in Florida where it is always hot you think I would have no problem dring the H2O but I am never thirsty.

Faith I hope you are keeping your spirits up I have thought of you and Bill often during the past couple of weeks and you remain in my prayers.

I made my reservations this past weekend to go to Houston from the 18th through the 25th for IQF. Would be good to meet several of you if possible.
I am disabled and would like to know if there are buses etc that is capable of taking a wheelchair. I am staying at the Marriot Residence Inn and hope it is not too far away from the action.

My DH left Thursday to spend 15 days in Michigan with his son. I thought great I'll catch up on all my swaps and can work on my mystery quilt. When I took him to the airport I got sick and have been since then have to go on Monday to have a colonscopy procedure my DH said I'll fly home and I was brave and said no stay and enjoy yourself. It is the first time he has been away from me in 18 yrs of Marriage.

Got to be on Ellen's map as Betty Boop my DH says I remind him of her.

Keep on drinking.

Hi all...Seems I can't leave town but what a new craze has hit the CP! This is a good one, though, and one I've sure needed to address for a good while. I'm in day two of the "water wagon" and thinking of all the rest of you who are guzzling down your two quarts per day. I've had to take a dieuretic for about 10 years now so my family is used to me spending my time a la commode. Just hope I can manage to sleep through the night before long!

Also started on what sounds very much like the Prism diet to help pare down my "fluff". I'm in a group with the Women's Health Initiative, which is compiling statistics on three areas of concern...cancer, osteoporosis, and heart disease. I've cut my fat intake down to less than 33 grams daily on average, but hadn't worked on the calorie side of my food intake. This diet
I've just started will work well with the WHI goals
so I'm hopeful to drop slowly and carefully instead of the yo-yo dieting we hear about.

Had a wonderful long weekend in Anacortes with DS who was hit by a car last Halloween.
Surgery in February was successful, and we were able to go out on our annual crabbing/fishing expedition with great success, I'm happy to say. Went to the LaConner Quilt Museum on the way there...they have a wonderful old mansion with three floors to display quilts. Some are part of their permanent collection, and they display traveling shows as well. The show I saw was from an Anchorage, Alaska guild...maybe some of you in the BB have things there?......I particularly enjoyed their version of Sunbonnet Sue and Overall Sam - it's Kuspuk Kate and Parka Pete there - who were doing all sorts of Alaskan activities.

DGD comes home from her year in California in a couple weeks...it will be good to have her home even if it means curtailing my freedom a bit. She's 14, going on 22, and I have somehow lost a lot of the smarts she thought I had. Judging by past childhoods, I will regain my wisdom in about 15 years. Of course, in the meantime, I will lose the phone......

Kitty Kat I wish you lived in East Texas. My little kitten vanished this morning. He was there when I feed them and later on he was gone. Now on to the diet, I am going to a dr. for dieting and he told me the best way to lose weight is to balance your meals. Three meals a day eat 1 protien and 2 carbs. Like a broiled chicken breast and maybe a salad and squash. Plus the walking and water. I drink ten to twelve glasses of water and walk 3 miles a day.
and this is for a girl who one month ago could not walk for 10 minutes. The energy is great. I have also lost 6.5 lbs of fat and gained 2 in muscle. It does work if you balance your foods. Sorry to take somuch of your time. It is just I feel so good now.

As Linda posted earlier, we met today and had the most wonderful chat. this was the first BBer that I had met and I think we both were rather aprehensive about meeting a stranger. Forgot to mention an addition to the wild and wacky world of having children: Did you know that if you place a Lego man over a burning lightbulb in a lamp, his arms and legs will start to melt over and down the bulb? Eventually smoke starts to come up through the lampshade, which adds to the awesome effect. Unfortunately, the smell is a dead giveaway to sharp-nosed moms. And why was that Lego man placed on the lightbulb, you might ask? Because he balanced, was the dear son's answer!

Well, we've finished the first day of nationals and this dancer's mom is SO proud!!!! Forgive the bragging moment, but here are the results: DD's lyrical solo was probably the best she's ever done it....and it took a first place! Her jazz duet was dynamite and they took a first place, and then placed 4 overall in the senior division, so they were REALLY pleased! And DD's tap solo took a first place in her division and then she was 6th overall out of all the seniors! She was absolutely thrilled...didn't expect to end up in the overall standings because the solo competition was really stiff!

So it was a great day for DD and the studio...3 out of the top 5 duets in the overall standings were from our studio. DD was the only one from our studio to place in the senior overall standings...and the only tap solo in the top 10!

Tomorrow is all the group numbers (DD's team has eight routines to perform). They're pretty psyched after such good results today, so we're hoping for a great day.

Forgive the bragging...just have no one else to tell about it right now--Cassi in Ohio

E-mail Address: jclegg@venus.net

Good Evening, and it's early for me...geez, it's only 8:27 PM. I'm taking a break from sorting out this sewing room (which is almost done...whew!). I sent a note to a friend and made mention of packing up some fabric and stuff I knew I was never going to do anything with and haul it off to Goodwill. I blipped something about one man's trash being another's treasure - well all this trash I've collected from others over the years has still not transformed into any treasures, ha! Where's that genie in a lamp when you need one?

Pets behaving like siblings - we're talking about one large brown dog named Ruby, and a big long-haired grey cat named Willard. During supper time this particular hound likes to sit by the DH (not that she'll get any goodies, she just likes the DH a whole bunch - probably cuz he sings little songs to her...who knows...whatever). We kept hearing Willard meowing sharply in a complaining manner - we'd look down on the floor and nuthin. Ruby would look innocent. Back to our dinner plates and Willard would start again...look under the table...no cat...Ruby sitting and looking innocent. Well, after the 3rd go around of Willard getting all pissy I REALLY took a GOOD look under the table...he was on the chair but I couldn't see him for the tablecloth. While my head is still peering under the table I caught Ruby giving Willard a goose with her nose which resulted in him meowing at her in a not too happy manner. I relayed this to the DH that Dill (that's Willard's nickname) was on the other chair. We looked at eachother and started laughing - but for a different reason. Years ago when Ruby was a growing puppy and Dill was about 4 years old the DH and I were watching TV and heard something banging away on the dining room table. We finally figured out that Ruby was just tall enough that her head could reach the chair that Dill liked to sleep on. She must have startled him (probably goosed him a good one, ha!) and he'd rear up and crash his head into the bottom of the table top...bang bang bang! It's funny but it's not funny (if you know what I mean). This evening after we had our laugh about Willard, Ruby and the past episodes I commented that at least Willard isn't falling for that gag in his old age and bashing his brains out on the underside of the table, ha! Pets! Geez, I can't imagine how much fun we'd have if we had kids too!

Later kids - time to go mess up my nice clean sewing room, ha! Brenda in Indiana >^..^<

WOW----Do I have "a bushel" of new friends. When I started this map business, I thought I was going to mark about 20- 30 names. (Ha Ha) I think the bb has had a population explosion. I have print outs and sticky notes all over the desk. My family went hysterical because they thought I had started trading for another Y2K quilt.

I am in a seriously sad mood thinking that I may miss the IQS, especially when it is in my own state. Work is such a pain. If I do get to come, I will have to say that I am at a "S.E.X. Therapy Workshop. Would someone be willing to sign off on the continuing ed hours?

When my son fixed my computer so that it would FLY to this BB, he gave me two warnings. (He thinks that I am a complete illiterate when it comes to the ways of the modern world) He said that it was fine to talk with all of these strangers, BUT DON'T START SENDING THEM THINGS, AND FOR HEAVENS SAKE DON'T PLAN TO GO ON A TRIP TO MEET THEM ! I didn't even mention that the big jar of change on the desk was for a dream trip someday with my "strange new friends". I figure that I can ignore his advice, since he failed to listen to me on a few choice occassions.

I am sorting out the names--and "NO", I am not posting all the names, locations, and personas until a few of you promise to come down here and help me !

SERIOUSLY, you are a wonderful group of ladies. Most women give so much to others, but rarely have a place where they can find support. This bulletin board is certainly a source of strength for so many. God Bless each of you this evening.

? OF THE DAY------What kind of women think of themselves as animals? (This map is begining to look like a forest). I am going to try to find the answer to the ? of the day in my ABNORMAL PSYCHOLOGY BOOK. lol Also, would the nearest bb member go put a quilt on the head of the person who said she REALLY looked like Jayne Seymore, I am trying with the diet thing, next we will all be getting face lifts and hair transplants.

Wow - we're going to have to stop doing everything else to keep up with the chat page!
Anita and Mary - loved the kid lists. Jenny in NYC needed to read those before her trip to the aquarium.
Care in Ct - ideas for 'tokens of affection' - paper-pieced bookmarks, ornaments, coasters, mini wall-hangings
Chris in Pa - there is a wonderful pattern in Keepsake Quilting summer cat. - think it is eagle rather than hawk
Doing well on diet while on vacation - reasonable meals, more activity, way less snacking than when at home and near the kitchen.
Think I need to be a lily on the map - my very favorite flower, fortunately I picked a few stems before the deer ate all the rest of the blossoms the other night - I'm in the upper left hand corner of NJ, very close to the NY and PA borders
Having fun with the flannel swap - echatted with Doni and said I would host a 'batik' swap after August. Will let all the flannel swap know and post here and on swap page, too.
Staying cool with the a/c on, hope this HHH spell doesn't cause as many problems as the one 2 wks ago here in the NE.

Katie Mac and I did have a great time at lunch talking about the invasion, and quilting, and life!! We decided that she is going to post a questionaire on the qbb for anyone coming to Houston in October to fill out and e-mail back. That way we will get an idea of numbers, interests, times people will be available... It seems as though everyone has already made plans for accomodations, hotels, friends, whatever. If that is not the case, let me know if you are still looking for a place to stay, and if you want to be right downtown ($$$), or out further. It will be good to get an idea of how long some of you are staying too.

Have a great weekend all.

Should be interesint post. I'm having a glass of wine on empty stomach, best way. First, thanks for the warm posts, Jayne, loon-Marie, Nancy and Linda. You girls all make me feel so cherished.
I sit here literally wringing my hands, wondering how to thank you. But first, a quick perusal and reading between the lines, suggest I wouldn't be out of line if I said I was down in Southern California as a dolphin, a person who is friendly and loves to help others.
And now my thank yous to those who have helped us this week.
Sue K in Pa beige and light brown true blue block
M.Hyne of VT, blue true blue block and beige friendship star plus small metal stencils of love and hearts, perfect for the border of this quilt.
Lois W. in NC a beautiful angel block plus
Linda C in WI remember how your children liked the boxes as much as the toys? Your block was a beautiful one using buttefly print, but the card was gorgeous as well
Susan S in MT 2 friendship stars,1 rust,1green
Mary L in KS, soft beige print maple leaf
Marie whose address I'd love, to go with her hand sewn/pieced house.
Shirley B. in AL whose center square around blue/green and off white carried such a nice handwritten message
Julie, K, in GA with a scrap log cabin
I really want to say more about each block, but that just doesn't seem fair to the rest of the world, so just know how much they are each loved. Faith

Subject: S.E.X.-tra, S.E.X.-tra, read all about it!
E-mail Address: mickey@digitalf.com

Hot flash: The Phoenix quilt police department confirmed today that they have apprehended Dr. Ruth, internationally acclaimed author and S.E.X.-fiend, with a butterfly net Rumor has it the scrappy little woman had gone completely to pieces and was running down the street stark necked. Her pasty-white (WOW) birthday suit was described as rather lumpy (like batting that shifted southward,) sagging here and there, needed to be taken in in several places, (no butts about it) and badly needed pressing. Dr. Ruth was put in a straight-on-grain jacket (they’re not biased) and hauled her off the Internet. She was taken to an undisclosed mental institution where she will undergo a series of serious testing. (Maybe Buford the Wonder Dog can sniff out her whereabouts, which shouldn’t be too difficult, as some of her jokes really stunk.)

In an exclusive interview, alter-ego jdb was quoted as saying, ”Life will be more pieceful around here without the dear little doctor.” How Ruthless! jdb went on (and on) to point out that scientists have proven the creative thought process takes place on the left side of the brain, so no quilter is in her right mind anyway.

The white-gloved attendants assure us that Dr. Ruth is resting piecefully (or sew it seams) in a cell padded with the finest of Hobb’s 80%-20% batting, covered with yards and yards of 100%cotton designer fabric. It was not preshrunk, but there are plenty of shrinks around to aid in that effort. Sources tell us that prior to today’s unfortunate incident, Dr. Ruth’s sanity dad been hanging by a quilting thread, and she is expected to take at least a month away from the BB to piece her life back together, and mend her ways. I heard her exclaim (‘ere they drove out of sight,) “I went through menopause forty years ago and still can’t mend-straight!” Stay tuned for further updates as they become available.

BTW, the family is understandably distraught and caught the first plane for Egypt, (they're in de Nile)insisting that Dr. Ruth has just gone on vacation for a month and will be back in mid August.

Good Afternoon everyone!!

Guess I'd better get my spot on the map--at least I'm sure there's no one very close to me. I can't think of a person I look like or would like to be, so just put me down as a stalk of wheat (glad you didn't pick that, Karen!) Shirley--thought maybe you wanted to put a tornado on your spot! So put my spot west central Kansas about 40 miles north of Dodge City.

I've been drinking my water today--so far have had 36 oz. I did break down and have some licorice a few minutes ago. But I did actually do some housecleaning today, so I figured I deserved something. I think the biggest reason I didn't want to lose weight is that it doesn't seem to want to come off the right places. If I lose that 10 lbs I'll probably have to go back to the pre-teen training bra section!!

And I still haven't given up ebay. I'm thinking I shouldn't have to diet AND give up ebay, should I?

OK Karen--you don't have to take me with you on vacation! But I do have a birthday coming up--hint, hint!!! I think those eastern KS girls ought to organize some sort of KS get-together like they're having in Ohio. What do you say, Doni?? You're going to Ohio so you'll know just how to do it, right?

Gotta go keep the little whiney monster out of trouble. He's decided he likes to vacuum (yea!!) so I'm training him--does as good as his big sister, I think!

Boy oh boy, talk about water retention! Two months ago I started going to the gym 4 or 5 times a week, walking more, eating less sweets, and drinking lots of water. What did I do? Gain weight. I know, I know, muscles weigh more, but I was going by how my clothes fit, not the scale (they are evil things that can really mess with your self-esteem). It was so frustrating. But now I think I am going to go to the doctor. I drink about 80 ounces of water, plus milk and juice (on top of the H20) and you'd think I would live in the bathroom like the rest of you. Wrong! Seems I am going less. I'm really considering going to the doctor, I think something might be wrong. I was pretty sick in the winter and though they never figured out what it was, they suspected my kidneys. Maybe something is wrong.... nah, I just need to lose weight! Guess I'll be going for a run after I finish my work for the day. I am entered in a 10KM race in Banff in September, I would actually like to finish it - at least without two much pain.

Well, I'm heading home to work, the office is way too noisy today. Good luck with the water all weekend everyone!

The gentleman that I talked to said that about 15 months ago they changed the process for making the 100% cotton organic batting and that it now can be quilted up to 4" apart. They just haven't used up all the old packaging yet and they are supposed to have stickers on them that say they can be quilted farther apart. He also assured me that it would hold up very well to many washings and do just fine.
Just thought you all might be interested.

You ladies are a hoot!! I read the BB first thing every morning. You may not know it but you all helped me get through some very trying times, death, robbery and a cross country move. Anyway, I got a water cooler service at home last year so I would drink more water. It did not work. I am hopelessly addicted to caffienated diet coke and can easily drink a 6 pack a day. Well, yesterday I only drank 2 and had 2 glasses of water. You ladies have helped motivate me
