Subject: Hearing Loss, Parenting
E-mail Address: Peroxide@olypen.com

Hello All!
All the discussion about hearing loss has been very interesting to me. I come from a family with several types of hearing loss in members on both parent's sides of the family--both parents, younger brother, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins.... My brother was Student Body President at OSSD in Salem, OR. Two cousins were attending WSSD in Vancouver at the same time and competed in sports against my brother's team. I planned on going into Deaf Education, but my DH did instead of me. Because two of his students had profound hearing losses (and were in the same grade!!), the school let my DH develop a program to mainstream the kids. When they went into Kindergarten, the hearing kids were taught sign language. A core group of kids who were good at signing and interacted socially with DH's students followed them in the same classrooms through elementary school. This worked so well that when they were in 5th grade a group of students from UW came over to observe and couldn't tell who in the class was deaf! They had to ask the teacher! This did take a lot of cooperation from the teachers, parents and the principal to work.
On Parenting: Cassi, have you thought about giving the Mother's Curse to your children? You know the one: "May you have children just like you!" LOL! I've threatened mine with this a few times--works wonders! Also, whenever my DD or DS complained about anything that I did or said I just told them that I HAD to act that way because it was written in "The Book of Mom". This is the book that they give all new Moms and it tells us how to nag, bug, and embarrass as well as hug, tell bedtime stories, fix hurts, and bake cookies. ;-) I think there is a whole chapter on making quilts for our kids. :-) My kids wanted to see this book, but I told them it was against the rules.
Hey! It's a tough job, but somebody has to do it...That's in the book, too! LOL!

It hardly seems possible that by this time next week we'll be in HHH Ohio!!! The time has certainly gone quickly since we started talking about this during the snowy winter. I think I'm almost ready...have all the blocks ready, picked out a few uglies, put Doni's book in the bag, etc.

We will be going back to North Idaho this weekend. DH has another job interview...maybe this will be THE ONE.

One thing I forgot to tell about the trip to Sisters...we were hosting at one of the host stations for a couple of hours during the middle of the day. Cody had his quilt and was laying on it under the table. A lady came by and I heard her say, "Oh my!!! That dog is laying on one of the hand made quilts!!!" I just laughed and had to tell her that it was HIS quilt. You should have seen her face. LOL. Guess she'd never seen a dog with his own quilt before. Wonder what she'd have said if she knew about Bufords???

FAITH: I'll be working on your block while we're on the road this weekend.

Baby Ruth was here and the chocolate was flowing like water.
I was nice to meet everyone and see what they were working on.
All of the quilts were just beautiful. I found out the next day
that Jayne doesn't have the flu, she has a kidney infection. She
is doing better, I talked with her yesterday.

Today I am having lunch with another Utah Delegate. I will get to
have S.E.X. today also. The same shop where Baby Ruth went the other day.
It is a fabulous shop.

Well got to run, no more time to spare this morning.

Just had to let everyone know I am a Grammy for the third time! David Michael, Jr. was born Wednesday July 21 at 3:54 PM weighing 9 lbs, 12 oz. Mom and baby doing fine. Baby looks just like his dad when he was born, just with a little less black hair! I finished his quilt a month ago when false labor was making me nervous. I paper pieced sailboats using 30's fabric. Came out really cute. When I gave it to them yesterday, DS held it up and said, "Is it hand quilted?" Of course, it is. Since he was a little guy, he told me it was cheating to use the sewing machine. Little does he know!

Haven't had much time for reading postings, hope I haven't missed too much!

MONICA....Glad to see you're back with us! Hopes and prayers for a speedy and easy recovery!

FAMILIES: I've been LOL reading all the responses to my posting yesterday. Venting did help - thanks to all for listening, and I have loved all the return stories! I should mention that my kids are actually usually very nice kids - and since that dinner was the highlight of them being a pain in the butt, you know that life with them is generally pretty good. I'm truly blessed with a son and daughter who are, for the most part, very enjoyable to be with! That said, I'll mention that DD's vacation to Lake Cumberland with friends was cancelled yesterday (their boat is broken) and now she'll be vacationing this weekend with DS and me instead....sigh.

Worked on Nancy's RR yesterday and accomplished a fair amount. Also finally got all the fabric put away that I bought in Indianapolis and at Hancock's sale last week. That was a two hour chore. Can't say what I'm working on for the row robin, just like to post that I'm working on it so I can "needle" Nancy! Love teasing people with secrets!

Well, this time next week and it's Ohio 99! Hard to believe it's finally here...I'm so looking forward to meeting all of you! Hope everyone remembers to bring a show and tell quilt (or at least pictures) for Friday night! I'm going to try to steal a few quilts from my mom this weekend to enhance my collection. Guess I have the advantage that all my quilts will be here LOL!

Hugs to Faith and Bill....thinking about you often!

My husband has returned from England! He brought my DD Paddington Bear and she loves him. I went out yesterday and had a little S.E.X. and found Paddington Bear fabric. Of course I had to have some, want to put a block on an I Spy Quilt for her. Going for more S.E.X. today with my Aunts. Still looking for a piece of fabric to border my quilt.

Today I stressing out over getting my son ready for his school trip to Germany. Need traverlers checks, more boxers, etc. Also have to be at the airport at 5pm to pick up my nephews from KS who are visiting us for 1 day and then their other grandma.

My mom just got hearing aids and my dad is enjoying that. Was interesting to hear about so many of you who are HOH. I think many of us will be there at sometime - I feel I'm on my way at times, or is that selective hearing? I teach family & consumer science and have many HOH in my classes. I took sign language this spring and have really enjoyed that. I hope to continue with it. It helps to have students to help me. They fit into reg. ed. just fine, however we have a large support staff for them.
Dryer is done, so must go iron my purchases from yesterday.

E-mail Address: djp@madras.net

This week is fair week here in our county. I won 4 blue ribbons and one red on my quilts. The judge commented on my hand work as "spectacular". that made me feel pretty good. On another she wrote, "Your special finishing touches add a nice polish." Hum, I wonder what she was referring to. It is just a small doll quilt. That quilt belongs to "Brown Bear", DGD2's stuffed companion.

DGD 1 showed her bucket calf today. She was so cute. The calf behaved very nicely and she did so good, Kept her eye on the judge at all times. She is only 7. Her momma, X-city girl from Huston TX seems to enjoy this fair experience more than anyone. As for me, I am glad to be the DGM and leave the worry and work to DS and DDIL.

Thank you for the "chocolate" jdb. that was so nice. I am thinking of doing something really fun with it. I envy your trip to see Harriet Hargrave. She was just great in Sisters, just wasn't enough time with her.
I hope Dr. R. is doing okay. I hope we BB's don't fall to pieces without her wit and wisdom. She keeps me in stitches, anyway.

Cassi, take heart darling children will get a payback. Not too long ago my dd #5 called on the phone begging me to come and get her dd. I said whats wrong she said I'm going to kill her if you don't come and get her. Whats wrong ?
She just sits and stares at the ceiling and hums when I try to say anything to her, Well, I was in stitches laughing. She said to me, Mom, I don't want to hear it. I wasn't that bad was I ???
I did not go and get the child, My daughter changed her mind. But she did call later and let me know that she finally understood, and indeed she was getting Payback.I still have to laugh at it, She was the most difficult of the 9, but now the kindest and sweetest of all the kids. I wouldn't trade her. Hey guys I need a place on that map, I live in Sacramento, and you can picture me as the woman who lived in a shoe. Have been working on charity quilts, have finoished 6 this month, So I guess I can do the snoopy dance all night!!!!!! My BIL birthday was today and my MIL is on Sat. so we celebrated them tonight. I bought my non-quilting MIL a redwork book, some nice white cotton and red embroidery thread for her birthday. This will work both ways! I don't embroidery, she does, she doesn't quilt, I do, so this will be a joint project. she loved it and said maybe she could have it finished for my DD's wedding quilt! My DD is 8! But the thought was nice. I made fabric bags for the gifts and got a lot of compliments on them. They were easy to make and they are reusable. Tied them with a ribbon and they looked great.
It is funny to hear you talk about being hard of hearing. My DD wears aids in both ears, has since she was 5 but has probably been hard of hearing since birth. Nice to know that HOH people lead normal lives etc. there are only 4 other school kids in my county that are deaf or HOH. Not a large majority and the schools were not happy that I wanted her in regular ed. She is doing well. thanks for telling us about your disabilities.
Patty in Northern California who will also celebrate her birthday next week. My DH was the only one in his family without a July birthday, and he married me!

Gayle, Dahlng! That was NOT jdb you met last night. She was over at the honeymoon hotel short-sheeting the bed and installing a video camera behind the two-way mirror above the bed. (Also, jdb was acutally born in Wyoming. She did live in Utah for awhile, but can't say she grew up there, as she never has grown up.) The person masquerading as jdb was actually Dr. Ruth's granddaughter, Baby Ruth, yes, the candy-bar company heiress. She kept handing out chocolate in hopes of persuading (bribing) the Utah delegation to help Dr. Ruth escape from the funny farm in time to attend Ohio '99. Baby Ruth is offering a reward of a year's supply of chocolate to anyone who comes up with a workable plan for helping the dear doctor.

Another member of the Utah delegation (do NOT call them Utards) Jayne was unable to attend the meeting because of the flu -- do you want me to loan you the Norton anti-virus from my computer?

Tuesday I had S.E.X. at Quilts, etc. in Sandy, (just south of Salt Lake City.) It's a rather small shop, but is crammed(!) with some 10,000 bolts of fabric. As one of the customers handed over her debit card she asked the clerk (happy hooker) not to announce the total because that would make it seem to real. Surreal S.E.X.-perience? Sounds like another case for Dr. Ruth. And you can bet the good doctor would rather be having S.E.X. too. All this time away from her occupational therapy is only making things worse. Puhleeze help the physician heal herself.

Gotta run. Home only long enough to do laundry and repack; headed for quilt camp in No. AZ with Harriet Hargraves. Do Not! help Dr. Ruth escape before I get back from Alaska (mid Aug.) Every time I go visit her she keeps giving me this speech about not entreating her to leave me or keep from following after me. She wants to lodge wherever I lodgest, etc, and quilt whatever I quilt -- I suppose there's just no end to her needling me.

Yesterday the BB's Utah Delegation had their first get-together and it was really fun! I thought someone else would have posted about it by now, but guess I'll tell you a little. Rachel, Michelle, Melissa, Gayle and jdb (now in AZ, but formerly of Utah) all met at Michelle's house in Orem and spent about three hours visiting about family, BB'ers and of course quilts. Everyone brought at least a little show n tell and they were all really impressive. Rachel had a couple kalideoscope quilts and shared the beginning of her Y2K quilt. Melissa is a newbie, but is going whole-hog on the trading post page. Michelle showed us several 'brown bag' quilts that she has made at the local quilt shop - she shows up for the evening and is given a brown bag full of fabric strips. Then spends the evening sewing them up according to the teacher's instructions, and is served dinner to boot! Sounds fun. jdb was in the area for a family wedding, so she managed to squeeze two projects into her carry-on luggage. Some fun folded quilt blocks made of kiddie conversation prints, and a beautiful quilt made using heirloom sewing techniques. It was real fun getting to know everyone - most of us had never met before. Like everyone else says, don't hesitate to meet a BBer if the opportunity presents itself! Gayle in Utah

I am washing so much fabric. The 88 cent fabric I got in Bellevue with Julie is really good fabric. I have some of the coordinates in my stash. I love buying fabric on really reduced prices. I get all piggy fingers when it comes to fabric and quilting books.
Sandy Toes, I was in Quiltworks on Sat. with Julie. I want to go to That Patchwork Place too!!
Julie I want one of those tables. I didn't buy as much as I wanted. I was being conservative.
Anybody want to go shopping with me? My QB, Lori, always buys a lot when I go with her. She says I talk her into it. Ha!
Sometimes I get to go shopping in her stash. She buys fabric by the bolt and cheap. I guess I am just a really lucky duck!
I will be meeting JDB in the airport on the 31st to meet and have a quick visit. I may make a trip to AZ in the winter. I want to see my BESTEST friend and I'll probably get to see JDB then too. I just love running around and meeting BBers. I will be travelling to MD in May. Niece is getting married.
I am praying for everyone on this board whether their is a prayer request or not. I want God to bless you all for filling my cup to overflowing.

Just a quick note before heading for bed. I just returned from my quilt guild meeting and we had Shirley Welsh, a representative for Eleanor Burns, do a lecture on quilts, color and fabrics. She had many of her quilts there. It was great to see them all. Shirley wrote a message on the BB many months ago and I wrote to her and passed on her response to the Guild President. So I am very happy that it was me who got her to the meeting. But, the best part it that I had, not only some of the girls from my other guild came there, a YYY member, Donna O of Seaside NJ came all the way down. It was great to meet another BB/Chat member. That makes about 6 or 7 YYY members that I have met so far. Great thing this computer is........

O.K. Who's doing the map? Are we all going to be on it? If so, put me west of Seattle at the base of the Dungeness Spit, just 18 miles south of Victoria, B.C. Since I'm in Dungeness you can make me a crab! LOL! My DH & DS will tell you that is a pretty good discription of me lately!

Just had to wish Susan in KS a HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think I got the right number of candles : ) I've been gone on vacation, and haven't gotten to harass her on IM for several days, so I needed that!!

Speaking of children and the fun we have with them. I just got home after spending 7 hours in a van with 3 of them! Mine are youngsters -- not teenagers, but believe me -- I've had enough "together" time for awhile!! Don't think I need to say anymore!!

I did get to have S.E.X. while I was gone. It wasn't as good as I would have liked, but I did get to go to several shops. And I do have to thank DH for driving me all over Denver to find a few of the places for me -- even if it did mean having to hear a few choice words. lol I had to wait until I got back to KS to find my best buys though. Stopped for a break along the way and found the perfect fabric for framing my "I Spy" quilts I'll be making for the kids. I ended up coming home with one of those plastic bags totally filled -- guess I didn't do too bad after all! I've complained about living in a fabric depressed area, but I guess I'll stay put. I really don't enjoy all the noise and traffic of a city. Guess I'm just a country girl!! The kids and I stood on the balcony of the hotel last night and the oldest commented that he too was glad to live in the country. Cars were zooming all around, and such noise -- he likes the peace and quiet!!

I am happy that so many are wanting to send something to Cindy. Thanks ladies! I feel awful that I didn't ask for a shower for poor Nannette. Hi Gang, no I didn't drop off the face of the earth. Went to Fort Lauderdale with DH last week and had S.E.X. on the beach, ooh la la. Week before that I was cleaning and packing and getting ready to go. CASSI - I do remember those days, although since money was very tight dinner out was really an occasion and consequently they were on their best behavior, but the attitude and the clothes, ooh boy!! Am I glad those days are over, but they do grow up into lovely young ladies and it's well worth it. On the clothes and hair we had a compromise - when they were out with their friends they could dress as they wanted to within reason. When they were out with me they dressed as my daughters. It worked, I don't know why, but it did. But do enjoy them the years pass so fast. I can't access the archives, but you all have been a bunch of busy ladies, but I'm dying to know about the water and map thing. Are we doing block for Faith and Bill, if one of you could let me know what the guidelines
are I'l try and get one finished. I know what a squishie is , but how many FQs are we sending. I bought 3 but don't if that's enough or not. And now for the QR stuff. WARNING: Perfectly pieced triangles do not work for all half square blocks. Jack and I became very good friends last night. I ripped probably about 50 triangles @#$%!! My Dancing Grannies is coming along very slowly as a result. I do want to have it finished by the time I have the MQ class next month. And I still need to finish (start) the DWR top for oldest DH's wedding in October. And finally, I found a new quilt buddy, the office picnic of all places. I saw the shopping bag, for a minute got real confused (not that it's that hard to do) thought I'd brought it. Went on a search for the owner, turns out she lives maybe 10 minutes from me and has been looking for a buddy too. We both work in D.C. and in the same building no less, go figure. Will try to get together for S.E.X. this weekend. She's working on a
Baltimore Album Quilt in non-traditional colors and it is gorgeous. I knew I volunteered to chair the picnic committee for some reason!!!

Hugs and Kisses to all who need them,

Melodye in Randallstown, where it finally rained.

P.S. Kelly and Andy keep up the good work. I love the page and realize it's a labor of love for you both. I know just enough about computers to be dangerous and you two are to be commended. Gotta go Jack's calling again.

Well, since KittyKate admitted she went out and bought even MORE fabric I have to confess what I did the other day at lunchtime. I left the office, drove straight to a nearby JoAnn's Fabric store and bought one of those high-height cutting tables that was on sale for $79.99. I've been thinking about getting one of these tables for over a year. I think it's KittyKate's fault because she set a bad example last weekend of buying exactly what she wanted when she saw it!

I can't remember who all mentioned wearing hearing aids. I have worn hearing aids since I was 17 years old and have experienced every dumb comment that ignorant people can possibly make. I do hate when people talk progressively louder right in my face, thinking the louder they speak the faster I'll understand them. Sigh. Actually I am just about to get a new pair of hearing aids. The ones I am getting are digital and programmable but they are super expensive. I figured out if I was buying KittyKate's 88 cents a yard fabric I could buy 4,600 yards with what I'm about to spend on the new hearing aids. I hope the new ones come with a feature that helps me finish all my UFOs. LOL
Have a super day everyone. The sun is shining in Seattle for a change.

Julie, you will LOVE your table. I bought mine before I cut my Y2K squares and probably saved
that much on chiropractor bills.

I've been busy finishing up on Ohio99 stuff. Lets see...Churn Dash swap blocks, digging'
out an ugly or 2, one 12.5" block plus copying instructions....Did I miss anything?? Oh,
plus I'm delivering Bufords quilt to Doni! Whew, I better find a bigger suitcase.

Kellie & Andy: The majority of us truly appreciate all the work you two have done on "Kellie's Page". I often go back and look at all the pictures--it's like looking through the family album. Thank you.

Cassie: Your family dinner at the restaurant rings lots of bells. I raised four children, and though they're grown now, I can remember similar scenes. Lots of them took place at home too, with each person wanting food that was NOT on the menu. As Nancy Reagan says, "Just say NO."

Yesterday ll of our Guild members went on a field trip. First stop was at Quiltworks Northwest in Bellevue, WA. They have a huge selection of unusual and exotic quilt fabrics that other stores in the NW don't have.....a good excuse for S.E.X. Since they were expecting us, we got a lovely discount. Found some fish prints I hadn't seen before, but was a good girl and the bag I brought home wasn't big enough to put in the trunk of the car. Oh, Kittykate, where were you?

Then off to lunch at the Redhook Brewery Brewpub.....a tourist "must" across the street from the St. Michel Winery. (With our weather up here, can you blame us for these attractions?) Then, on to our tour of That Patchwork Place (The Martingale Co.) to see the quilts and find out what new books will be coming out soon. At the end of the tour we were once again led down to our very favorite room, the book SALE room. Most of the quilters bought an armload--I only bought four. After looking at the shelves I came to the startling realization that I already owned most of them! Oh, boy! Is there a Books Anonymous?

I'm still musing over the high school class reunion I attended in Minnesota earlier this month, but mostly had a wonderful time. I was NOT the fluffiest person there, in fact, I felt positively thin! That was after I knew that the classmates would have to take "whatcha see". At this late date, nobody really had anything to prove, so we had a relaxing good time in spite of the heat and humidity.

Love to Faith and Bill and hugs to all my quilty friends,

I have been reading all of your teenage daughter stories and just cringing. My poor parents had three teenage daughters at once, and I am sure we were just awful. We even made fast food dinners bad, as one of us refused to eat at Wendy's and another McDonalds, and one insisted that we boycott all Coke products since they didn't get out of South Africa. As for picking apart our meals, we were all guilty. As for being rude to Mom, we did that, too, I am sure, but not much because our father wouldn't tolerate anyone being mean to Mom. She was and still is the Queen, and deservedly so. She made us prom dresses and ballet costumes and worked to send us to out of state college. Not a one of us spent a dime of our own money on school. Our parents wouldn't hear of it. But now, we all love Mom and Dad. Even though I live 600 miles away, I call my Mom 3 times a week. My older sister called her three times a day before she moved to England. Now she has Mom call her and pays 1/2 the phone bill. I guess what all of this is leading to is that we do learn to behave at restaurants. We do learn to order food we like. We do learn that we cannot live without our Moms, especially when we have kids of our own. Oh, and we do learn that you are always right, even though we will never admit that! One of these days your daughters will grow to appreciate you. Just think, in a couple of years they will be at college, and you will wish they were at the restaurant with you.

Dear Friends,

I just finished a wall hanging quilt that is to be used as a farewell gift of the Commanding General's wife. As is not unusal the gift was chosen by someone who knows nothing about quilting and asked if I would design a small quilt. I agreed to this ( it sounded fun and not that time consuming) From designing it went to shopping for the fabric and then construct each of the 40 blocks. There only 4 inch square it should not take long-- each block took about 1 hour to basting it. I refused to do the actually quilting since it was suppose to be a group project. But somehow it was at my house again yesterday to be bound. It is done and delievered. Thanks for letting me vent some of my frustration. I know that I should have just said no -- but we have all been there.

So glad to know I am not the only one out there with an imperfect family! LOL......DD is almost 15 - drop dead gorgeous and a royal pain in the fanny!! MOST of the time she is tolerable, but Cassi (((()))) I sure identified with your restaurant story! We occassionally refer to DD as "miss chemical analysis" as, after announcing there is NOTHING on the menu she will eat, she has this annoying tendency to dissect her food on the plate and scrape the pieces she doesn't want to the side while announcing "what is THIS?" Needless to say - we too have had our share of silent evenings following a "family dinner out".

Was the chaperone for a field trip for her class once (repeat ONCE). NOW - other moms got the "good" trips - I got the trip to the Otis Elevator test tower (really!) While there, I attempted to interact with my DD and her friends (as the other unlucky moms were doing). At one point she turned to me and said LOOK you are only here to drive so stop talking to me. Being quick on my feet i said that's okay - i won't talk to you. BUT it works both ways, so when we get to McDonald's for lunch don't YOU talk to ME when you don't have any money to buy your lunch. And walked away leaving her with her mouth hanging open.

Jeanne in CT where my psychologist friend tells me this too shall pass and yes - she apologized for being such a brat and i bought her lunch, but when we got home she had to empty all the trash.

I've been doing pretty well with the water too. Now, if I can just start exercising, maybe I can lose some "fluffiness" (LOL)

Marge, I'm another hearing disabled quilter. I have otosclerosis, with 85% loss on one side, 70% on other. This used to be thought to be totally hereditary, but evidence now shows that it is a combination of genes & measles virus (so the incidence is declining with the measles vaccine, thank goodness!) Luckily hearing aids do help, and if it gets bad enough I can opt for surgery.

Mostly I've found people accommodate me, when they remember... you can't see our disability! I must admit I find hearing aids much more difficult to manage than glasses, but not hearing at all is even worse. If people can't accept our disabilities, they are the ones that lose out!

Hi everyone,
Hey Cassi, vent all you want, we're friends and we always have an ear (Or eye in this case).
Susan in KS- I heard that poem on the radio from someone who learned it from one of his elementary teachers. I'm sure it's quite old.
To everyone dieting and drinking water: I have found that when I cut out fat, I cut out most meats and therefore protien. My DH and I also work out a lot so we take those whey-protien powders. They do help control hunger, I've noticed, and it seems that some of those monthly annoyances were lessened (that could just be me though). The chocolate ones aren't too bad and you can add some Hershey's chocolate drink mix without adding to much in the way of calories. If you are lactos intolerent, they may not work for you. We got ours in a nutrition store.
Keep up the guzzling everyone and stay cool!

Poor KittyKate. I too used to hide fabric in the trunk of my car. Now I drive a truck and there is no trunk to hide fabric. I just leave it in a bag and wait until DH goes to work. Sometimes I can't wait and bring the fabric in the house inside a grocery bag. haha

Family dynamics are a pain in the behind. When my daughter was a teenager she drove me nuts. Like going to the mall and ignoring me, like I was a stanger who happened to be walking behind her. Now that her oldest is entering puberty, well lets just say it's payback time. I used to tell her to spend as much time with them while they are little because there will come a time when they would rather be with their friends. She used to say that her kids weren't going to be like that. Oh well.

I've got another e-mail addy. Hope this one works. Have a great day everyone. I love this place. ttfn :) Mary Ann in sunny Pleasanton, Ca

SUE IN PA---I'm sorry to read that your DSIL has cancer. When my MIL was sick with it, I made her a pillow quilt a/k/a "quillow." They're just the right size for the couch, and fold up into a throw-pillow if needed. They can be made up in a day, too!

CELIA---- You go, girl!! I'm trying to "detox" myself since I have "sisters in misery" right now. It's so much easier knowing others are trying, too! It does get better, I promise. Things like birthdays (cake) always trip me up and cause me to fall off the wagon. Now I have to go guzzle that water.

CASSI IN OHIO----Your family sounds just like mine!!! LOL !!! I swear, I've been there, done that. Nowadays I just insist that the Family Mealtime Togetherness & Bonding festivities take place at home so there are no public witnesses. Hello everybody- nice to hear from you all!

Deanna, congratulations on that 36 3/4# you've lost! I'm still drinking my 2 quarts daily - and watching the calories and fat grams. I didn't weigh before I started and don't plan to weigh in until I next visit the doctor, so I don't get obsessed with the numbers like I have in the past. You know, where the scale determines what kind of a day you'll have? If it read lower than yesterday I'd want to celebrATE and if it was higher I'd want to commiserATE...and ATE I did....but that's me and I don't want to go there again! LOL

Ellen, if you put me on the map, I'd guess I should be a tomato. I sure feel juicy with all this water drinking! As that song goes that John Denver used to sing, "Ain't nothin' in the world that I like better than bacon and lettuce and home-grown tomatoes". This is the first year since we've been here that I haven't grown them, we had too long and cold of a spring to get a decent start. Lord knows I don't resemble a string bean! LOL Put me 40 miles north of the Washington/Oregon border on I-5 interstate.

Marge - congrats on your start of 3# loss - hope you keep going well with it. DH has hearing loss
and doesn't seem to get enough help from his hearing aids - maybe because he wears them in his pocket?!! I try to remember to face him when I'm talking, and I also try to stay where I am when he calls to me from another room about inconsequential things...I figure if I can be courteous to go where he is when I want info, so can he...it's a learning process for both of us!

Welcome to Jan in Perth - and any other newbies too. It's such a marvel to me that we can communicate over such distances so easily!
Stick around, you'll make lots of friends here.

Cassie, thanks for venting about your dinner out with the kids. They can be SO @#$%&* maddening sometimes. Our 14-year -old DGD/DD (going on 22 in HER mind) puts us through the grinder at times too. We've survived
raising our own kids and hope to survive raising
this adopted DGD too. I have hope that you'll survive too. Will it help to remember that someday they'll make you grandparents and have to go through what they've put you through? Sweet revenge....LOL!

Deanna: WOW! Congratulations! Keep on walking!

Cassi: Isn't amazing that the people you love the most can also annoy the bejeebers out of you the fastest? Too much baggage that we sometimes take with us in expectations and too often we take the same "tape" off the shelf to play when our buttons get pushed. I'm glad that typing it all out made you feel better….no sense carrying that stuff around. It would only add to our fluffyness! LOL! Anyway, maybe you can give them another chance sometime. Probably they just prefer your home cooking (even though they may whine about that too)!
My Mom and I always had "hair" arguments when I was a teen. I always wonder now how it was that she didn't shoot me!

Monica: Good to see you back! Hope you are feeling better soon.

Hugs to Faith and Bill. Faith, My block for you looks like a TOAD, I'm afraid....:(
So I may have to start another one this weekend. Maybe I'll have a bit more luck with the next one. Oh well...that's what it's like to be a newbie quilter!

Got a call from DBIL last night around midnight. He is at DMIL's house and says that the fire damage isn't as bad as he thought it would be from the insurance adjustor's description over the phone. The bedrooms he thought had been spared water damage, so the quilts might just need to be "de-smoked". He was there at night with just a flashlight, since the power to the house was turned off...he might not have been able to see things well enough.
DH is getting on the plane this afternoon, and the two of them will be salvaging what they can this weekend.

Finally just deleted most of them. No time to read that much stuff. Also decided that I was going to unsubscribed to a lot of them.

Since I kind of am keepint track of the Paducah picutres - where have they gotten to?

Will be home for a few days after spending 12 days at the Iowa Great Lakes. I did paddle in the lake a little bit, but not a lot, and did have a little time to sew (finished one quilt top) but mostly did some sight seeing in the area. I did find time to have S.E.X. - FIVE times. Got my flannel for the flannel swap so will have to get busy with that. My DH said he didn't know there were that many "string stores" as he calls them in that area.

Home for awhile - until we leave for Oklahoma City to go to Central Oklahoma Quilters show next week. Then I do get to stay home for awhile.

What is with the water deal - can't get back to see what is going on with that.

Good Morning everyone!

First of all thanks to everyone who gave me their opinion of the best quilting book. I don't think it made it ant easier (I'm still trying to decide) but it was fun hearing about them all. Most were ones I'd been thinking about anyway--now to just pick one!

Sandi--now about that little weather rhyme--did you happen to pick that up from "Little Bear"? We hear that quite often around here! My 4 y/o DS thinks Little Bear has the funnest times and can't understand why he can't do all those fun things, too!

Cassi-I enjoyed reading about the trying times with your family. Makes me feel good to know that I'm not the only one who has a less than perfect family! And I can totally relate to the DD's hair style--must be a teen thing because we see that weird looking, mushroom type pony tail thing around here alot, too. I try to be alittle tactful about it, but it's hard to keep my mouth shut!

I haven't been too good about drinking my water--guess I need to give up some of that coffee. And I'm forgetting the diet for today--DH is actually taking me out to eat (by ourselves and no fast food!)for my BD--then to MILs house for cake and ice cream! I'll try and get back on that diet wagon tomorrow.

Better get off here and at least get a shower taken and clothes changed sometime this a.m--gotta look decent for that new picture on the driver's license--YUCK!!

Faith and Bill--prayers and hugs to you both!

Have a great day, everyone!

I can't tell you how good it felt to just sit down and read the postings (as far as they would go). Of course, sitting is still somewhat painful and I am still a bit shaky so will be crawling back to bed after I post this.
I want to say thank you to much to all of you special people!! I have gotten so many lovely cards, wishes and emails and I want you to know i appreciate them all! It will still probably be a few days before I sit down and go through my emails but wanted to let you all know how grateful I am! All of your prayers and thoughts must be helping because, aside from the expected fatigue and soreness, everything went very well and it wasn't half as bad as I thought it was going to be!
Cassi, with all of the TV time I have had in the last week and a half, I now can't believe I didn't know who Ricky Martin was a month or so ago! 8^) He apparently is everywhere singing that vida loca song...
On a much more somber note, all the TV time has meant I have seen all of the Kennedy/Bessette tragedy. How heartbreaking. I actually came down here to sit at the computer because the ship just went to sea with the ashes and I couldn't watch anymore - it is too sad. Carolyn was born the same year as I was and I couldn't imagine being told that my time here is done.
Of course, reading through the postings I have all sorts of questions - I need to get caught up!
Why is everyone drinking water? Are the cookbooks available? Kellie, you and Andy have done a FANTASTIC job - I can't believe someone would complain! And, Nancy, twins! oh, my!! 8^)
I'm sure there was more that I wanted to mention but can't remember. I am handquilting like crazy and looking forward to maybe sitting at the sewing machine this weekend to get caught up on my round robin and make a block for Faith.
I can't tell you enough how great it is to be back with you all! Why is it that when I am doing housework, I wish like anything I could just be quilting, watching a ball game, reading a book (I have read 6 in the last week)and now here I am doing all of those things, wishing like anything to get back to my old routine, washing dishes, doing laundry, weeding the garden, yelling at the kids! Aren't we humans terribly contrary creatures??
By the way, one of the books that I read was the Persian Pickle Club by Sandra Dallas. What a wonderful story. She made such real characters in her story and I wish I could be a Pickle, too.
All right, back to bed. I will be getting to my emails and correspondence as I continue to have more energy. Hugs to everyone who needs them!

E-mail Address: ipelletier@sprint.ca

Good morning everyone. I see Cassi has set the laugh mood for today! I know it is not funny Cassi- to you maybe, but I just couldn't help imagining all that scenerio step by step. I know exactly what you mean, have had similar experiences. I once was foolish enough to pay over $100 for Stacie to have a "special" kind of perm (I have never, ever had a perm, so I did not know what the special part indicated! All I do know,is that she came home in tears, scraped it all back in a pony tail and conned her father into paying another $50 the next day to have it straightened!!

Marge and Stripey Bear- I am aware of the rudeness you sometimes encounter being hearing impaired. Our son Steven is totally deaf in one ear as a result of spinal meningitus at age 3. His premium ear is okay, but when he was small, people would lean right into his face and slowly but loudly shout the words at him, like he was mentally handicapped too. In the event that his hearing would fail altogether, he went to both sign and lip reading lessons, so in actual fact, he probably understands more than most!! At least here, both of you can enjoy all the friends you need, we are all on the same communication level.

I am still water drinking- hope you all are too (nudge, nudge)!! I also have a nice little pathway beaten down in the carpet to the bathroom- LOL ! Some one told me a tip about combatting sugar craving- frozen grapes...Never heard of it, but I tried it last night, and they are delicious- almost like eating candies, and so sweet!! Please don't anyone tell me that they are not good for you and burst my bubble!!!!!!!!I really do think that Doris is right on target, I know that I am feeling so much better. Now I think we have Dr Ruth in partnership with Dr Doris!!!

Deanna- that's GREAT- way to go!!!!!

I laughed at Nicky's English waitress story Doni!! I have been in Canada for 31 years now, so I probably speak a personalized hybrid tongue, although when I returned home last year after a 2 months stay at home in Nottingham, my own family could not understand me for a whole week!!!

Have a great day all, and please remember Faith and Bill whose day is not going as well as maybe ours is.

Hello all! It's hotter than heck in our neck of the woods and I shall hole up in my sewing room once again. We only have AC in our bedroom and my sewing room and since there's no television or sewing machine in the bedroom - looks like I'm stuck hanging out up here (LOL!).

To Just Me Sue and Bev in Cincy - Our ISP is having trouble with their mail servers and have promised to get them sorted out sometime today. I have been receiving some email but have not been able to send any for two days. Boo hoo!

You have to feel sorry for the guy or gal that answers the phone for Internet Service Providers. They hear it all I'm sure the poor dears! Having worked the service industry most of my life, and being on the receiving end of a screaming customer (combat pay should be provided for us poor smoes who tackle customer service, ha!), I try not to give the person who answers the phone too hard of a time. For example, this morning I was pretty miffed at not being able to send out email for day #2, ugh! So, when I called and a polite, (but scared I'm sure..."yikes, do I have another screamer on the line???"), person answered the phone I inquired, "What did you guys do cut the red wire instead of the blue one and blow up your email servers?" HA! This got a chuckle out of the poor fellow and I'm sure I heard a faint "whew" on the other end of the line. "We're doing such and such and hope to have the so and so fixed in an hour or two." Okay...I'll let you slide this time, but don't make me drive over there. I've been saving up a really big hissy fit and you don't want me to try it out on YOU!! LOL!

Later kids! Brenda in Indiana >^..^< who hopes to be emailing my heart out sometime today.

KRISTEN IN MI: Well, of course, if you're moving to Cincinnati you HAVE to move near us Serial Quilters! Check out West Chester, Ohio, and the Lakota School District. Boating is not my thing, but I understand people go to the Ohio River, Miami rivers, and Caeser Creek State Park, among other areas around here.

West Chester is located north of Cincinnati. My DH actually works in Kentucky, and it's about a 40 minute drive to work for him. E-mail me if you want more information about this area - we moved here in 1992 and love it. Plus you'll have the added benefit of becoming a Serial Quilter! How can you resist that?

LONG STORY AHEAD....It's just me venting about my family, so don't bother reading it. It's just therapeutic for me to put it in writing LOL!

PUBLIC CONFESSION: Should have gone and helped Bev and Sue with the cookbooks last night. I had big ideas that I could manage to get the family out for dinner TOGETHER for the first time in a long time (going through the drive-through window with all four in the car does not constitute going out to dinner together).

Anyway, by 5 p.m. when I let DS know this is what we were doing, the complaints began. "I wanted pizza....you said we could get pizza days ago and we haven't done it." I explained this is a new restaurant that just opened nearby and it serves gourmet type pizzas. Whine, whine, whine. Then DH gets home 15 minutes later than usual, informs me he has haircut at 7:30. So now we're on a tight schedule. He drives separately so he can leave if he has to.

Now we're in the car heading for the restaurant. DS announces for the 5th time in 20 minutes he's starving, and this restaurant won't be any good. DD announces she feels sick.I'm feeling sick looking at her since I just spent $60 on a haircut and highlighting job for her in the morning and she has the nice new haircut pulled back into something resembling an ancient Japanese samurai warrior hairdo. Told her in no uncertain terms it looked totally dorky, but of course she didn't care. Mom's temper is making a speedy appearance.

Get to restaurant - very nice decor, seated right away. DS examines menu, and examines menu. I tell him he can order anything without cheese (he hates cheese and barely tolerates any on a pizza). DH finally arrives, we order, and DD continues to complain about feeling sick, DS continues to whine about being hungry. DH worries his won't come in time before he has to leave for hair appointment.

Finally three pizzas arrive - DH's was made wrong (they used cilantro when they should have used green onion) so they're making it over. We take it in good humor, tell waitress we're just concerned cuz he has to leave but we'll take it with us. Manager comes over - VERY NICE - says entire meal is on the house. We say, no, that's not right, cuz the rest of our meals are fine. I told her I could handle having DH's free, but not the whole table. She said okay.

DS takes one bite, stops eating. Says there's too much cheese. DH says, well you should have asked for light cheese or no cheese. DS says "I didn't know I could do that." That's about when I hit the roof. I launched into one of those great maternal speeches that started with "I TOLD YOU" and ended with "Don't tell me you didn't know, because I sat right here and TOLD YOU." (Just for the record, I should point out that this is not the first time DS has done this....more like the 1000th!)

Anyway, DD is still whining about headache - starts to have problem with her contact lens and sits at the table with tears streaming down her face, hands greasy from the pizza. DH and I tell her to go to bathroom, wash hands, fix contact. Tell her again. Tell her again. Tell her again. FINALLY she decides, okay that might work.

My hair is slowly being torn out by the roots. I was ready to walk out - DH said I couldn't because he wasn't going home and he didn't want to take kids with him.

So the bottom line is, the restaurant was very nice - the food was good. When there was a problem they quickly apologized and handled it (they actually took off the price of two pizzas). I ate one piece and lost my appetite from the arguing. Spent most of my time thinking it's more fun arguing with Bev and Sue....and I should have gone with them instead.

So much for family togetherness. DH came down to the studio later last night and said he was sorry the meal didn't work out and that it was a good idea anyway. I just glared at him and said, "It was a lousy idea and I should know better from past experience that trying to have a pleasant meal together is an impossiblity."

THANK YOU for allowing me to vent--spent the rest of the evening making two more blocks for Nancy's row robin, but had to rip out too many times so I gave up. Then I worked on my 12.5 inch block for Ohio 99 and got that mostly done. Having a dungeon to retreat to helps....DD came down for a bit but since I wasn't talking she left soon. DS came down and offered me some popcorn...he left fairly soon too. Guess they figured out Mom was not in a happy mood!

Cassi in Ohio.....where it's so humid outside it's leaving condensation on all the windows!

Hi ladies.
This a message for MARGE. Have posted here so any other BBers who are deaf can read it. Marge, I started to go deaf at about 27yrs old. It deteriorated quickly until I was about 33yrs old. Now I have lost half my hearing in both ears, and the docs are not sure why, probably measles damage. Now some people treat you as though you have lost your marbles, not your hearing. This bothered me big-time for a long while. I wasted much energy worrying. For anyone in the same position, don't!!!!!! Now, if someone is funny with me, I ask them if they have always discriminated against disabled people, it always works. Marge, if your friends have deserted you, maybe they weren't the people you thought they were. Find some new ones, and don't look back.
Hope this has helped. Best wishes from Stripey Bear in Britain.

SO ... anyone in Cinci who can give me guidelines on best schools/school districts, nice neighborhoods to live, where to boat, etc., you would be making my life a bit easier down the road. Then the sooner we get there, the sooner I can meet you and get quilting!!! :)

Thanks for your help, dear quilt friends.

Good Evening Everyone!
Sue in PA, I tried to email you but it bounced back. Please email me at the above address.

If anyone has not heard of the breast cancer stamps, check at the post office. They cost $.40 each($8.00 for the booklet I think) and the extra 7 cents goes to breast cancer research. I know my family and many others have friends and family members that have been touched by this. A small thing to do for our sisters that would mean a lot when we add all of the pennies up.

I can travel and work on hand applique or quilting if I am in the front seat. On air planes, I have found that I can also work if we are at cruising altitude. My mom is one that knits dishclothes in the car, however, even in the dark car, so that she won't get carsick.

I love water! I usually get more than my quota each day. It really helps keep off the weight I worked so hard to lose last year. This is one habit I never plan on loosing.

Time to get stitching. Unfortunately, my first project is a patch for my husband's uniform. Then the fun stuff.

Have a great evening everyone.

As we age our thirst is not an effective indicator of how much fluid we need. When we actually feel thirsty, we are pretty dry. We must drink a little frequently to make sure we are adequately hydrated. Docs can tell by looking at your hands, skin and lips and tell if you are getting enough to drink. Water improves your skin and hair and helps flush the toxins out of your body. Keep drinking it, it is so good for you!!
I was really bad today, again! I went and bought more fabric. I don't think I've ever bought so much fabric in such a short span of time. I think I am going to have to cut up the old credit card before DH commits justifiable homicide.
Take care and may God bless you and yours!

Nancy: I will be watching Letterman--wear that YYY!!! I went to a taping two years ago and had a lot of fun, hope you do too.

Kellie and Andy: thank you so much for your picture page! Don't let some sour apples upset you, we all know how much work you guys have put into that page simply because you enjoy it. We appreciate and love you two for doing it for us.

Way to go for Cassie's daughter and Faith's grandson. What great kids!

Whoever told the story of shopping for their daughter's prom in NYC--sorry I can't remember who--you reminded me of when I took my little sister shopping for her prom dress. I went to college here in the city and she thought she was so cool, coming to visit her sister at college. Mom gave her money the dress and we hit the town. I was pushing for the Versace we found at Century21 (a bargain basement type place), but she wasn't quite that bold. After dragging her through countless boutiques I ended up taking her to Bloomingdale's and turning her over to the cutest sales associate. She fussed over my sister and made her feel like a princess. DS ended up with her cool New York dress and we bought funky shoes to match down in the village. For once I was a hero to my baby sister!

Yes, please do post the cookbook order form again! I want, I need, I have to have the BB cookbook. The only things I cook anymore are either Mommy's recipes or BB recipes!

I too have been glued to the television watching reports of the search for JFK, Jr's plane. It was hard to believe at first, they were all so young and really just starting to live. It's so incredibly sad, those poor families. I feel especially sad for the Bessette family, losing two daughters at once must be awful. Everywhere I go it's all anyone is talking about. When they released the information about the memorial services planned I realized that the church the Kennedy family is planning on using is on my street. I have attended Mass there a couple times and walk past it all the time. Jackie Onassis used to worship there so it makes sense that they would have it there. The service being in a place I know so well has made it seem more real. Does that make sense? I don't know...

Hello All!
I've been busy like always...foolishly thought that things would calm down this summer. HA! I've only had time to skim all the postings and will never catch up.
I just wanted to let everyone know that THE WATER WORKS!!! As of Tuesday night's Weight Watchers' meeting I am 36-3/4 lbs. less fluffy!!! Gee....just a couple more pounds and I'll actually weigh what my drivers license says I weigh! LOL! I have also been walking with a couple of friends (one of the reasons I'm so behind on the BB!). I think the water and exercise together is the combination that makes the pounds come off.
I hope that all of you that have just started the water keep with it, it does work!

Congratulations!! What fun for you and your family. We are getting ready for the second birthday of our twin DGS -- and what a joy they are! Our DD#2 and husband had also kept the family waiting for an "important announcement." One April 1st, they even hinted at some "news," and got all of us excited, but then "April Fool!!" When she found out she really WAS expecting, it was her birthday, and as usual we had a family dinner. When she opened presents, she pulled out a tiny sleeper, saying, "We have an announcement!" As everyone was having a fit of excitement, she took another sleeper from the box and said "No, not A BABY, TWINS!!!" You should have seen the expressions of the faces of her sister, nephews, and grandparents!!! DH and I were in on the news, so I took pictures. I think the surprise was so much fun!! The boys now have a baby brother, 4 months old. Three boys under two years old. Has aged me considerably. Remember to get lots of sleep and take your vitamins, so you will be able to do your share of rocking. Our boys were 6 weeks early, but weighed 5 lbs. each, and didn't take long at all to catch up. I'll be thinking about you, knowing what fun you'll have. BTW, have you started on baby quilts yet? Better get going. I have some baby blocks left over from a project -- send me your snail mail addy and I'll send them to you.

Howdy! It is just me, Sue and Bev in Cincy here at work, for the third night in a row, printing the pages for our cookbook. It is coming right along, but taking lots more time than we anticipated. Kind of fun, though, we treated ourselves to dinner first. We will definately have enough copies for everyone at Ohio 99 who wants one and then will start on the rest.
If you have not placed your order, we will post the order form again in a day or so.
Brenda, where are you hinding? Been trying to email you and it keeps bouncing. Is you puter down?
Counting the days until Ohio 99 - in just one week, people will start arriving! Can hardly wait to meet all of you! Those coming by plane, we will be easy to recognize - just look for - - - not going to tell you but you won't be able to miss us!!! No one else at the airport will look exactly like us!
So, get busy with those blocks, haul out the old suitcase and we will see you soon!
Gotta go put in another batch for the copy machine - Bev's a callin' me!!!

I have had the most fun reading all the postings lately. We quilting ladies are soooo busy and nice, aren't we? Of course, I include myself! Had a great time at my quilting guild last night - our quilt show coming up in October is coming together very well.
I wish, I wish! I could handpiece, or crochet or something like that while traveling - the only thing I find I can do is knit dishcloths. I GET TERRIBY CARSICK. I don't need to look at the needles while knitting. Usually my DH and I talk, talk, talk. When the traffic gets busy I shut up (I get nervous)and look at the scenery.
Marj - I hope your weather isn't 90 degrees the first week of August. I was so looking forward to having cooler weather than this 90 plus here in Ohio! We are going to go to Green Bay so my husband can see the center of business where he works out of - Schneider Trucking and hopefully visit with his dispatcher and his boss. Then down to Madison for the rest of the week with the Good Samers at the Camping Convention at the Fairgrounds. Plan to relax, watch the festivities, maybe get some handquilting and cross stitching done. I have a Quilter's Companion and will check it out for good quilt shops around Madison. Anyone have any recommendations?
"Granny" Connie - That quilt retreat at a Ghost Town sounds like a blast! Hope you have a Ghostly Good Time!
Nancy "Sewbird" - I don't watch much t.v. but will see David Letterman's show that night - wrote it on my calendar and will be looking for your YYY.
I am going to see if I can eliminate a bunch of the junk when I forward messages - I add to them, but never deleted any parts of the original message - will try that. Copy and paste is still a mystery to me = I need specific directions.
PLEASE! Ladies with Joanne's near you - I am green with envy! They took our Joanne's out of town - have to go 25 miles east to one or 25 miles SW to another one - places I don't go too often! Was so spoiled - used to go just 1 mile before they left.
My DH had to have laser surgery on his eye for cloudiness after his cataract - said it was nothing much - heard clicks and think he said he saw some spots = that was all.
The day I heard Kennedy was shot, I was apartment hunting with my mother for an apartment for her. Was absolutely stunned. We gave up on that the rest of the day, then the next morning I went down the stairway, carrying my 7 month old girl and broke my ankle. I spent the time watching the rest of the proceedings in the hospital! That was when they kept you in the hospital a couple days for something like that. I will never forget those few days in November.
Keep up the good work ladies - you seem to be a carefree bunch when on this bulletin board - everyone can loosen up a bit - makes the day nicer. a Newbie - Ilona from HOT OHIO

Well, thank-you everyone for the advice. I just sent him (it? I like that!) an email. All business, very curt. Maybe he will get the hint with it. Who knows.

Just dying to go out and enjoy the weather but I am stuck at work still. Then I will go home, mark a quilt top a bit then out to play soccer, I love summer! Thank goodness it finally arrived!

Calling all Nova Scotians! Are there any BBers in Halifax? I'm heading there for a wedding in a week and a half and would love to meet to chat. Also, if anyone has recommendations on shops for Halifax or area I would love it. I lived there for four years but wasn't a quilter then. We are thinking of driving to PEI for one day too. The bridge sure makes things easier for that. Just drop me a line and we can start chatting.

Hi All
Ellen - Can I play the map game? I think I want to be a flower box as I love gardening and mine is situated outside my craft room, so kind of hits both passions. Put it 20 mi. south of Boston, MA in Randolph

Kellie & Andy - I, too, would like to offer my support and thanks on the wonderful job you both do for us. Love this BB and don't know how you do it.

I was 19 and in my first full time job when one of the engineers told us President Kennedy had been shot. Devastating. Sat in front of the television for three solid days and did nothing but cry. It was such a dark time. I had the picture of John-John saluting his father on my bulletin board for over a year.

Have also started water consumption, which I don't usually like, but with this hot, hot weather, it is a lot easier. Also am walking & swimming, but no results yet. Could it be that ice cream cake with heath bar filling that is holding me back???:)

My dog is nudging me to take him out. He is so adorable and funny. We have faked him out so many times about going out (doesn't like to go out alone, but when he gets on porch, we close door and he does his thing), but has us figured out. Now he stands at the door to family room and waits til I walk two rooms away to back door. Doesn't move unless he sees me put my shoes on and then makes like a galloping buffalo to the back door. Too funny to watch. They are really so endearing.

Take care, all.

Marilyn just phoned me. When she returned home from seeing a new doctor today (Homeopathy) in her mail she found a card from SARA in MA. Sara had said she had been reading about her on the Internet and wanted to do something for her. When Marilyn told me the very GENEROUS amount of the check she cried. She wanted me to thank you very much. I haven't noticed you posting on the BB, Sara, but if you would E-Mail me I have a special message for you from her. She has been so overwhelmed by the generocity of all of you for what you have done for her.

Someone, a nurse, had given Marilyn the name of a Dr. here in the BIG city and even set up an appoinment with him for her. She kept that appointment today; one of her daughters went with her. She said he was very interested in her case and spent over an hour getting her medical history and examining her, gave her some of his own medication and a list of vitamins and minerals for her to get started on. He says he CAN help her. Marilyn says at this point, she will try anything!!! Please pray for her.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for everyone who has cheered her up and given so much of yourselves to her. I love her dearly, my sweet little sister, and I am finding it so hard to see her going down-hill as she has in the past month or so. I wish I could bring her to OHIO 99 with me, but she just isn't up to it of course.

Hello there Ladies,
DEE, I use a Bernina 1015, it is not a computerised one. I find it wonderful for ALL my sewing, patchwork and dressmaking. Try one out in a sewing shop and see for yourself.
CHERYL, some people in authority get ideas of grandeur, others treat them like demi-gods, and then they behave like monsters. Rise above it, and speak with the utmost politeness to him ( it).
SUE in PA. try a railfence design, it would be quick to rotary cut, sew and you could quilt in straight lines easily.
To the lady who pieces in the car. YUK, I would LOVE to do this but would be as sick as a dog. Could never
