Good evening all!

International Quilt Festival

Lynn and I are still are trying to figure out some kind of get together for all of us during the IQF. If you are planning to come and would like to meet some of your fellow quilters please answer the following questions:

1. What is your name?
2. What is your address? (both snail and e-mail)
3. How are you getting to the IQF? (flying, bus, driving)
4. Where are you staying? (hotel, friends, family)
5. How can we get in touch with you while you are here?
6. What days will you be attending?
7. Would you like to have a snack or a dinner "get together" on Friday night around 8pm?
8. Would you like to get together on Saturday night instead? (I believe there are no classes)
9. If you choose a snack get together, what price range would you like?
10. If you would like a dinner get together, what price range would you like?
11. Do you have any questions? (Make them easy! LOL)

I have chosen to stay at the Marriott Residence Inn and NO I am not getting a discount for telling you about them! These are the reasons I chose to stay with them:

1. They are all suites ranging from $79.00 (studio), $89.00 (studio double) and $109 (Penthouse.)
2. They have full kitchens
3. They serve a deluxe continental breakfast daily
4. Complimentary hospitality hour
5. They provide a shuttle that will take you anywhere in a 2-mile radius for shopping, dining, etc.
6. 39 places within the shuttle radius to eat
7. The IQF shuttle runs to this hotel
8. Coin laundry & valet dry cleaning
9. Outdoor heated pool and 4 spas (for after all that hard shopping)
10. Daily trips to the Galleria (Mon. thru Fri.)

Just thought I would let you know. Lynn knows of some places further out that might even be cheaper. Anyway, let us know so we can try to plan something.

E-mail Address: jkjdesko@willex.com

Just wanted to post that Holice spoke to my quilt guild last night & EVERYONE loved it. He was warm & friendly & extremely funny! All got a lot out of his talk freeing up the creativity inside you. I'm still getting thank you's from members for arranging this. So, Holice, Thanks to you from all of us quilters here in Essex County NY! If you've got the chance to have him speak at a guild meeting, go for it!

I have to add that several of the ladies were extremely envious of his handquilting as shown in the quilts he used in his talk. We may have to do this again next year, Holice.

Faith & Bill & Daric & his mom...congrats to a young man on his way in the RIGHT way & his family.

I'm a fabric prewasher because the chemicals used in the finishing get my allergies going.

I was in 6th grade when JFK was killed. They called all the teachers down to the office. We knew something big was up because they never left us alone in classrooms. She came back crying and told us that the President had been killed. We were all in shock. I watched the funeral while babysitting and shushing the kids
so I could hear.

The Gibbs quilt is wonderful, Brenda! Kudos on a fine job.

I'd like to be on the map too....a nice yellow lady's slipper up in northern NY, south of Plattsburgh & across Lake Champlain from Burlington VT just a smidge north of Willsboro.

Wanted to go to the VQF but between work & taking th epostal employee exam I was too crazy.
I had hoped to be able to go over & meet Marty.

Sorry this is so long. I usually only lurk!

Kathi in NNY whre today the weather was not too hot or cold but still too dry. And I'm jealous of the Ohio 99'ers. Have fun, Marlene & all!

Subject: DH Cooking?
E-mail Address: buck@getus.com

Sandra, I liked the idea of DH doing the cooking, but then remembered the last time we were going to take deviled eggs to a picnic. At the store I bought eggs, mustard, pickle relish. He asked me if I forgot "that yellow paste" that I always put in the center of the deviled eggs. So I think it might be a better idea for me to cook. Or maybe we could just go out...

Hi Everyone;
Nancy,'sewbird',snowbird; I watch the Letterman show, I'll keep that date circled on the calendar.
I'll be on the lookout for a YYY, HA. Sometimes he really cracks me up and then other times he bores me until I have to turn him off.

DH home on vacation time and we have been house painting, I hate house painting! But it is something that has to be done, and doing it ourselves is saving us big $$$$$...

We are off for trip to Wa. tomorrow. Bringing along squares to work on, and have plans to hopefully stop in a few fabric shops along the way....

Happy quilting to all....Linda in California

I hope you will all bear with me for a few moments, I need to vent. I got an email from my Master's supervisor today. I sent him the first chapter I had finished from my thesis last week. He is going through it right now and wanted to get a few comments out of the way right away. I have never been more upset with criticism before. I can handle it, but only if it is dealt in an adult manner and constructively. You would think this man (who is a Dean to boot) would know how to dish crit that way. WRONG! He was so patronizing and rude, and plain old mean in parts. I was fuming for about an hour before I spoke to another committee member. He calmed me down, but I am still upset. I just can't believe that this guy thinks he can still get away with being an a*@ like this! I got some good advice on how to deal with it though. Just address the comments he made, not the tone. If he is going to be immature and mean with me I will be formal and cold to him. Nothing but business here. I just want to get this darn thing finished!

Well, that's my vent. Otherwise life is busy but good. I have friends in town so it's off to home and a nice dinner and some time in the gorgeous weather outside. We went rollerblading for two hours yesterday. Hot and sweaty, but it felt great.

Happy day,
Cheryl in Edmonton (aka Madonna)

Subject: a lurker comes out
E-mail Address: arnoldp@wsu.edu

I have been a shameless lurker for several months now and have so enjoyed all that I have read. I only have access to the web at work, and only during my lunch half-hour - I have to read fast to keep up with all the postings! I finally decided to put aside any misgivings about posting from a work machine (if they fire me I can just quilt a whole lot of the time!). I was in the second grade and living on an Air Force base when Kennedy was shot. We were sent home immediately, there was absolute eerie silence outside, and then the sound of planes and jets and sirens - I believe that the base went on full military alert. My dad disappeared for several days, my mom cried continuously, and I was terrified. Didn't understand the gravity of what happened - it was very traumatic. Did anyone else have a similar experience? I heard a commentator say over the weekend that the Kennedy family has all of the glamour, all of the wealth, and none of the luck. How true.

On quilting - I took a stack and whack class last weekend and am just thrilled with the results. I got just a little compulsive - finished the top in one weekend and did little else. I am usually a very slow and deliberate quilter - the idea and planning and considering a new project (and of course shopping) are just as much fun as the finished deal - and I have very few finished deals, let me tell you. I am lucky enough to work a few hours a week at the local quilt store (if any of you are ever in the Pullman, Washington area - south of Spokane about 75 miles on the Idaho border our quilt store is tops!) so I get to see all of the new stuff that comes out. I haven't ended up owing money at the end of the month....yet.

Well, lunch time is over - back to work. I maybe shouldn't have posted - this may become a habit!

Patricia

Subject: Foundation pieced Dresdan Plate
E-mail Address: reimer1@prodigy.net

Has anyone ever seen the Dresdan Plates that are foundation pieced, sort of....you mark your circle around the center of the background fabric that is cut to size, the first piece is lined up around the circle...the tips are sewn in a point..then it is just basically sewn as in a foundation pieced block...anyone seen them or know how to do them, what about a pattern?? I seen one at a quilt shop last winter..and thought that they were really neat...Anyone draft thier own patterns and would maybe be able to figure out how to do them?

I had a wonderful chat with Shirley in Ks yesterday on the phone....remember those things? you hold them to you ear and talk in one end and listen in the other?? really cool thing...you do the same thing over short distances with a tin can and a string...probably the first baby monitor..anyway...if you have the chance to meet someone on the BB...I say go for it! New and wonderful relationships can be made....I AM shy!! I know no one believes this! but I am! With Shirley it was so much easier...we had already went thru the getting to know each other thru email...so we both knew what we liked and disliked, and it sure takes the uncomfortable feelings away..for that first time face to face meeting! She has even met Nick and survived to tell about it! He was a hoot that day..Nick in a semi-good behavior.....he was trying so hard to be good! Our waitress was really nice and had a chance to chat with us...she had a real thick English accent...she talked to Nick for awhile and he just sort of gave her his most cutest little grin, and answered her questions a little, and when she left he leaned over and told Shirley and I that she was nice but he couldn't understand a word she said! She sure did talk funny! LOL!! We giggled and giggled....the good thing about Shirley is she has monster kids to..so no need to get embarresed about what kids do! She's been there to! Alot of you have been talking about getting together....go for it! It's a blast! Celia...think Nick would think that you talked funny??? LOL!! I thought of you when he was talking to her!

Welp better get...see you all soon!

BEV in Ohio: Thanks for the really cute squishy....leisure frogs! They are really cute! If I see the tooth fairy frogs, I'll send them along.

Last night when I got home after work, there was a message on the answering machine from DMIL's neighbor. Time was 9:00am....DMIL's house is on fire!!!!
We tried to call neighbor all evening and DH's brother in Washington State. Finally got through....
DMIL is the one that got me into quilting. This is the same DMIL that had the broken arm. She really worked hard to recover from that injury so she could go on this trip to Finland, Estonia, and St.Petersburg. So she is out of the country. She left on Sat.am.
This is the same DMIL that I went to Quilt America with just a week or so ago.
House has major roof damage and stuff from attic and ceiling has dropped through to nearly every room. Water damage and smoke, etc. I will make a list for DH of things to find in the wreckage that DMIL would want to fish out before the contractors start cleaning up all of the debris.
She had just finished all the quilt blocks for a promised quilt for Niece........ There are other quilts on beds that will need to be cleaned.... Family mementoes... This is every traveler's/homeowner's nightmare. You go away and your house gets destroyed. The insurance adjuster thought that it would be 3 months before the house is habitable again.
Poor, poor DMIL. At 83, she is a spunky one, and will probably bounce back...but in some ways, it is better that she wasn't home. The fire started in the attic and was really just confined there. Neighbors who did not know she was out of town broke the front door down to rescue her, but other neighbor knew that there was no one home, so no one hurt trying.
Firemen did excellent job putting out fire. It was noticed at 8:30 am and really was caught just in time. Kudos to Terre Haute FD. Gosh....it is not even my house but I am in shock....
DBIL told DMIL and said to continue trip...that there wasn't any reason to come home right away. Contractors immediately put tarp on roof so no more damage will be done, and both boys are going to handle the paper work with contractor and insurance co.

Thanks for letting me babble.....

Back in AL - I just spent 4 days in CT helping get my DM's house ready to sell. As you in the NE know, it has been killer weather, nothing like 98 degrees and high humidity in an un-airconditioned house! Glad to be back in AL where we have air conditioning. Thank goodness my DM had already moved to her assisted living residence. I found her doing well there, she has made many friends, keeps active, and is watched and protected by a wonderful staff.

Antique quilt - We found several quilts, quilt tops, blocks, etc. while going through all the things in my DM's attic. The most exciting was a sawtooth star quilt made in 1862 by a 78 year old for her DGD! It is signed and dated, with the name of the maker & person receiving it, and matches up with my DGF's geneology. My youngest DSis is taking that, she is the "holder of the family history". The top is in pretty good shape, a couple small tears, but mainly just blocks coming apart where thread failed. The back is much worse off, already been patched etc.

30's quilt tops - there were also 2 quilt tops made by my DGGGM in the early 30s, both are triangle two-patch (HP). One uses the same fabric for each diagonal, the other is totally random. I am going to finish them for my other 2 DSis (non-quilters). There are also 80 9/5" 1930 applique butterfly blocks made by my DGM. I will make them into a couple quilts for my DH who loves butterflies. There were 2 appliqued tied (?comforters - but no batting - so more bed spreads) that my DGM made, one kitty cats, one with the butterfly blocks. I can remember them being used as bedspreads, but they are in excellent condition. They are going to my two nieces - so the quilts will be shared among all 5 of us siblings.

Block pieces - there were also pieces cut for five dresden plate blocks, several 6-pointed stars, and some simple nine-patches. I think I am going to combine them into one sampler quilt, calling it "Grammy's Blocks". The fabric for these seem to range from the 30's to early 50s. I think my DGM gave up quilting for utility sewing and knitting as her grandchildren came along. I know my first quilting project was finishing 2 quilts with a simple six-lobed appliqued flower block that she had started (many of the same fabrics as the butterfly blocks).

Kitty Kate - I'd also like to be in the birthday swap.
S.E.X.??? - While I was in CT, visiting my DM, I stopped at the local JoAnne's. I was so overwhelmed by the sheer volume of fabric, I was paralyzed. Just walked around and fondled fabric...didn't buy a thing! I don't know what I'd do if I got into a really good quilt shop. 8>)

Dittos to Vicki's suggestion about copying and pasteing for forwarding e-mails. It's really easy to do and does eliminate all those addys being sent out to all parts of the earth. In Outlook Express as opposed to Netscape and AOL/mail you can "clean up" before sending. When you click on forward it puts the whole message into the e-mail form and you can add or delete anything you want. I highly recommend it. Netscape is a booger to figure out. I've been trying to help several friends and haven't come up with anything except copy, paste and delete for them to use. AOL is a whole 'nother problem. I'm forever getting things forwarded by my AOL user friends that come as attachments. When they forward it comes as an attachment and can have multiple attachments to open before you finally get to the heart of the message. My record so far is opening up 16 attachments! Pain in the you know what!!! Needless to say I applaud Bill Gates with this easier e-mail system.

Susan in Ks: I LOVE Judy Martin's Block Book and Block Party by Marsha McClosky if you're looking for stuff to make. I just got a "wish book" (catalog from Conneting Threads) and am drooling over some books in there. Some are older ones and on Sale. (1-800-574-6454 will get you a copy too) I've never ordered from them but love all the colored pictures and descriptions.

Sure wish God's Ten Commandments were as easy to follow as the Quilter's. I have no problem with any of those - guess I need to reevaluate myself!

Just me,Sue and I spent several hours printing on the cookbooks and have decided that we need outside help! So we spent Monday morning checking out Kinkos, Staples, Office Depot, and Office Max for the best prices on supplies and printing. Of course there wasn't a "one stop shopping" place. Some were so overpriced we'd have to raise the price a lot sooooooo - We got the supplies and decided to let Staples do the printing and binding. Be patient with us - Ohio 99 is a first priority and then we'll devote ourselves to the rest of the books. Just let us know how many you want by e-mail (remember A-L is bruns@fuse.net and M-Z is me bevncarl@lynxus.com) The original posting here is on 7-18 at 2:52 PM.

Guess that's all for now - hope everyone is surviving the heat - we had a little relief from the drought with a couple of very short showers yesterday and last nite. Did hear that there was flooding out further in the midwest - Hope it hasn't affected anyone we know from the BB. Bev in Cincy (9 or 10 days till Ohio 99 :>))

My son picked up pink eye at a b-day party. Ugh!
I got it from my DD when she was little (before I knew what it was) my eyes were so swollen and awful looking, I looked like "the morning after the night before". WASH your hands! is my cry this week. It's amazing how often we rub our eyes without realizing it.

I just got my pictures from Yakima, Centralia, Sequim, Sisters and Bellevue. I still have one roll left to develop. I need to take one more picture. Awesome pictures. I can relive the shows over and over.

I posted last week that my DD won 2 blue ribbons for her cookies and brownies. Well, today we picked up our stuff from the fair, including her 2 ribbons and a check for $8.00. We went to the bank to cash it and then to Walmart to buy a Barbie, a princess Barbie, no doubt! She was so excited, smiling from ear to ear.
I have been cleaning out my sewing room and today sat down to design a quilt, got the fabric together to use in the quilt and I feel so good. I am actually starting a quilt before it is even needed, just because I want it. I know, that sounds strange, but I need a deadline to start or finish a quilt. The stuff for the fair was finished the day it was due. Speaking of the fair, a lady called me asking for a quilt or a wall hanging for her function she is in charge of for Oct. I am prez of my quilt guild, so get lots of these calls. She was commenting on the beautiful quilts from the fair and she mentioned the one she liked best was a quilt with fish on it. That was my quilt! I was so surprized that of all of the quilts, she liked mine the best. Made me smile.
Does anyone with EQ4 know how to print out just some of the templates for a block? I was printing out some of the block templates and it prints them all. EQ3 you could delete some of the templates if you didn't want them. Nothing in the book about it.
I was 2 when JFK was shot, so I have no memories. But I do remember when Reagan was shot, the Pope was shot, challenger etc. Very vivid memories about the Pope, but then I am Catholic.

I've taken old spools and almost empty spools and filled a clear glass lamp base for my sewing/guest room. Looks cute IISSM (if I say so myself).

Sad to think about all the Kennedy's tragedys - I too remember the day JFK was shot, I was in 5th grade and it was during school. We all gathered in the chapel to pray, and it seemed so unreal. I was also watching the TV on Sunday morning when they were transferring Oswald and Jack Ruby shot him. My heart goes out to the Kennedys and the Besettes at this incredibly sad loss for both families.

It's getting harder and harder to find time to check up on all of you each day. Maybe when school starts back again (which in our part of TX is only 3.5 weeks away, amazingly enough).

My thoughts are with you all near and far!

Dear Quilting Friends,

I have a problem. Maybe I am over reacting, but I'm a little worried.
I am doing a block swap through the trade section. It's my first so I'm not sure
what is the norm. The swap is a ways away so there has been quite a bit of correspondence.
The host sens us posts of interesting mail she receives, mostly what is going on with their sewing, etc.
Well, today one of the e-mails was really weird, I guess , or a joke. Anyway , because this e-mail was
forwarded to all of us, this person has all of our addresses.
My question is, is this OK, or should I suggest all letters be personal & not forwarded. Normally I'm not the type
of person that gets to wooried about this sort of thing , but it did
make me wonder. Someone, tell me I'm worrying for
nothing! Thanks for letting me vent,
Love to all at the BB, Jill(Glenda, good witch of the NW)

I loved Julie's report of her adventures with KittyKate. I would love to have been able to videotape that -- probably would have to censor some of it, anyway! I think Julie should be represented on the map by a Giant Peach -- and those of us who were at the Ocean Shores mini NW reTREAT should remember why!

Hi everyone!

I'm trying to escape from my world for alittle while -- the kids are torturing each other and I've been trying to get my sewing room back into some kind of order. I need an escape before I get a headache and this page is it!!

DH asked this afternoon what I wanted for a BD gift. Hmmm......dare I ask for S.E.X.?? Nah--he's already noticing the growing pile of feedsacks I've gotten from eBay and wondering how much I'm spending. I thought maybe a new watch....but the old one does still work--just doesn't look so great. Then I thought---a new quilting book!! But I can't really decide which one I think I need. Maybe you all could help me out--I'd like to know what your favorite one is or maybe what's the next one you'd like to have? Maybe I should've posted this on the other board--hope there aren't any Chat Police.

I am sitting here with my glass of water, but haven't been doing too well watching what I eat. Broke down and had a chocolate malt this afternoon. It is hot as h--- here today and it sure tasted yummy--I don't regret it! Good idea to start drinking the water early, but hard for me--gotta have the coffee in the morning and the Diet Pepsi at noon.

Better keep working on that sewing room!

Bye--be sure and give me some tips about the book!

Well girls, I am generally a lurker but had to get my two cents in. You forced me!! So many of you speak of the grade you were in, well I was in the the fourth grade in Plainfield, N.J. only difference was, I was the teacher not the student. It was my first year. An older teacher came around to each door and told the teachers and told us not to tell the students that that was their parents responsibility. What a difficult day to finish and try to pretend like nothing had happened plus longing to know what the outcome was (We were only told he was shot). Anyhow, I thought you should know how old you are making me feel though I don't feel it. Subject: the real scoop on our own Kitty Kate
E-mail Address: julieg@microsoft.com

Hello everyone. I wanted to report that I am still standing after spending nearly 24 hours with the supreme meower while she was on the kitty prowl for fabric. We went to the Block Party Quilters' annual show in Bellevue WA. There were nearly 300 quilts on display, including some unbelievably wonderful quilts of the featured artist, whose name I have temporarily forgotten (Karin two-last-names). We no sooner got in the door of the show when we were irresistably drawn to the merchant mall. Within minutes, the Meower had, clutched in her paws, kitty fabrics. It didn't help that my sister was there, too, saying, "hey, Kate, look at THIS one!" I can't believe how much fabric was purchased, between the two of us. I'm sure Kittykat has used up at least one of her nine lives on this expedition, or will have when her DH discovers the enormous stack of fabric. Then we spent a few hours looking at all the beautiful quilts. It was inspiring. If only I spent half the time actually sewing as I do thinking about sewing...I'd have no unfinished projects. UFOs...yep, have plenty of those - and now Kate knows just how many - because we spent a little time making a mess out of my sewing room.

After the quilt show we went out to lunch, then to Half Price Books, where we each bought some quilt books that were too inexpensive not to buy. Then, drum roll please, we went to a Ben Franklin store where they regularly mark down fabrics and Kate bought yards and yards of fabric for 88 cents/yard. Yes, that's right, 88 cents. I mean, how could you not buy it? And it was quality fabric, too. While at Ben Franklin, we saw just one too many Debbie Mumm things and Kate totally cracked me up by saying, "Oh, I'm just all mummed out, aren't you?" We got a good laugh out of that but maybe you had to be there. After all that, we were simply exhausted so we went back to my house to have a cold soda and re-fortify ourselves with fritos. I figure no day can be all bad if it has fritos or cheetohs in it. LOL

Doni, Kate speaks so highly of you, I just have to get to know you better. I don't emerge from lurkdom very often but I know that you were all dying to hear about our quilting adventures. I cannot go shopping for any more fabric in 1999. That is my mid-year resolution!
Julie in Redmond WA
p.s. On the map, I'll be slightly east of Seattle (across lake washington in the 'burbs), and hmmm...don't know what or who to "be" - maybe Kate can make a suggestion.

Kitty Kate, if there's still room, I'd like to get in on the BD swap. I'll need lots of instructions as it will be my first swap,,,ever.

Gee, all of you really know how to make a gal feel OLD...I was married and had 2 babes when we heard about JFK...We were taking a break with DMIL/DFIL who were helping us cut and wrap an elk DH had gotten during hunting season. Someone came in the diner and said they'd just heard it on the radio. As everywhere, disbelief was followed by a sense of fear and bewilderment...and I remember thinking "Who is Lyndon Johnson?"!! JFK & family so eclipsed everyone in DC (at least seemed to way out in the 'wilds' of Montana), that little was known about the VP.....It was terribly frightening to hear about that, watch the oath of office taken by LBJ with Jackie, still in her blood-stained clothes, standing, obviously in shock, by his side and then to actually see Lee Harvey Oswald killed on live TV! We no more than breathed a sigh [it seemed] and Bobby was killed and Martin Luther King. We really wondered if the killing would EVER stop. In addition to the other family members that have been mentioned, my heart goes out to Ethyl Kennedy...she has suffered through so many untimely deaths of family.

On a lighter note: I just started going to a local guild meeting (they are ALMOST as nice as you girls)and learned that they will be having a quilting retreat in August. It is held over a weekend in a B&B located in a ghost town! DH found an interesting website re: ghosttowns of Nevada (he's a history buff)and learned a lot about where we'll be going. It sounds like it will be so much fun!! who knows, I might even get some quilting done!!LOL

I heartily aggree with Just Me Sue and the others about going out without the hubby dancing, if its okay with him, let her have a good time. she needs some way to decompress after all the duties we females seem to think are ours. The need to keep an open line of communication, and he should accompany her at least once even if he hates Country music and dancing just so he can see what is going on.
The Day Kennedy was Shot:: I don't truly remember where I heard the news, was in 6th grade in the Los Rios elementary school in the Panama Canal Zone. I know the funeral was on TV,and we only had one military channel, only on a few hours a day. The one thing I really remember was that during the funeral, our pet rabbit gave birth to 6 baby bunnies that my brother and I later sold to get money which we used wwhen we went on vacation in the "States" that summer and went to Disneyland in California. I do remember distinctly that I was in post-conference in nursing class when we heard about the Pope being shot, I'm not Catholic, but wondered what the World was coming to when the Icon of religion is threatened! And the Challanger explosion, was just putting clothes in the dryer when I heard it on the radio and then watched in disbelief on CNN. WHERE WAS I? In '63 I was 13, so in 8th or 9th grade. Our school day was short (we were dismissed at 1:00--that changed within a few years to a longer day, but not before we graduated!) so I was home watcing my mom make pies listening to the radio. The announcement came on and the pies were forgotten. I can remember my mother kneeling in front of the TV watching and crying. I'll never forget little John John's salute. It still bring tears to my eyes and now more than ever.

For the shuttle, I was talking with my mom on the phone and had just turned the TV on so my oldest son could watch the blastoff--he was always interested in astronomy and space flight.

What a sad time for the Kennedy's and for Rory in particular. And imagine losing 2 daughters? It's all so sad!

Thanks for the info on the GOOB store in Springfield. I'm hoping to get there during the sale!

How did I begin quilting? My oldest son was an infant, I'd become a stay-at-home mom, and I was bored! Took a quilting class at the local high school and I was hooked. My first quilt was a very crude small lap quilt made for my son--different textures, old fabric, ABC's appliqued, bright and cheerful, lots of blue and yellow and red (boy colors). I still have it now in the living room for a chilly evening in front of the TV. Some years later I made a quilt top for him and used it to cover an old "puff" that he'd had on his bed for years and which he did not want to give up. It was a bulky one to quilt, but he still uses the quilt and was a great "save" of an old "favorite."

THIS IS A GOOD SUBJECT TO TALK ABOUT. I HAVE BEEN THE MANAGER OF SEVERAL BARS AND CLUBS AND HAVE SEEN WHAT COMES ABOUT WHEN WOMEN COME ALONE WITH OUT AN ESCORT. I HAVE FOUND THAT IN DISCO TYPE PLACES MEN SEEM TO ME MORE ON THE MOVE AND LOOKING FOR MORE THAN A DANCE.
I KNOW FROM ATTENDING MANY COUNTRY DANCES THAT IT VERY ACCEPTABLE TO GO ALONE OR WITH A GROUP OF GIRLS TO LINE DANCE. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT IF THE WOMEN YOU GO WITH ARE MOSTLY MARRIED ITS NOT A PROBLEM BUT IF YOU ARE MARRIED AND THE REST OF YOUR FRIENDS ARE SINGLE YOU CAN GET INTO SOME AKWARD REALATIONSHIPS.
DANCING IS FUN AND LINE DANCING IS A GREAT FORM OF ENTERTAINMENT. BUT I AGREE TRUST IS THE ISSUE IF YOU HAVE TRUST IN YOURSELF AND YOUR SPOUSE FEELS TRUST IS NO PROBLEM THEN WHY NOT. DANCING IS LIKE A LOT OF OTHER SPORTS AND ACTIVITIES ITS MORE FUN ON A TEAM OR WITH A GROUP.
HOWEVER, IF DANCING BECOMES A PRIORITY TO GET OUT AND YOU'RE GOING SEVERAL TIMES A WEEK IT MAY BE MORE OF A PROBLEM THAN ONE REALIZES.
MY DH TRUSTS ME AND AFTER MANY YEARS I TRUST HIM. IT WASN'T THAT HE WASN'T TRUSTWORTHY BUT BECAUSE OF FORMER MARRIAGES AND HOW MY SPOUSES ACTED THAT MADE ME ON THE LOOK OUT FOR THINGS THAT COULD BREAK A TRUST.
WELL, I MUST GO AND GET TO THE DOCTORS FOR THE TEST (COLONSCOPY) AND THEN BACK TO DRINKING H2O AND POSSIBLY GOING FOR S.E.X. WHILE MY HUBBY IS GONE.
OH HE CALLED YESTERDAY 2ND TIME IN 3 DAYS AND WANTED TO KNOW IF HE SHOULD COME HOME. I FINALLY ASKED HIM DO YOU WANT TO COME HOME AND HE SAID YES I MISS YOU. THATS SWEET AFTER 18 YRS OF MARRIAGE. I GO ALL THE TIME TO PLACES WITHOUT HIM BUT HE FEELS MORE SECURE AT HOME KNOWING I WILL RETURN. HAVE A GREAT DAY ALL!

I, too, was a sophomore in h.s. the day Kennedy was shot. We (our class) was excused from classes that day so we could organize the annual 10th grade carnival--fund-raiser for the senior trip--those were the days! Anyway, the announcement came over the P.A. system, along with the announcement that the community was coming together for a rosary for the president and his family immediately. The church was across the street from the high school. I heard later that our little community was the first in the nation to call a prayer service for the president, can't substantiate it, though.

Question. Can anyone out there help me find a VERY simplistic site, or sites that help you learn to build your own web page? I don't understand so much computer language, and have limited resources, otherwise I'd hire it done.

Cassi: Congrats to you and your daughter!! All of those costumes and all of that driving to practice. You deserve a medal too!
Faith: Give your grandson a hug from me! What a good present for Grandpa.
KittyKate: My DH and I used to go "contradancing" Which is kind of like square dancing in lines. He isn't up to going much anymore and sometimes when he is out of town, I have gone to the Saturday night dance. As others have posted, you dance with a variety of men, and you may learn their name, but there is nothing to it but the joy of dancing. In fact, usually you don't keep dancing with the same person even if you come with your spouse. I always tell DH that I plan on going to the dance, and gee why can't we do it when he is home. This dancing isn't in a bar, however I hear that line dancing is very similar to contradancing. One of the guys I work with is the fiddler for the band playing the music, so it isn't like my DH wouldn't hear about it!

Where was I when..... I was in third grade and remember as I was walking down the path going home, that Ellen Mintz ran up and said, "The President's been shot" I remember saying that this was nothing to joke about...and she said she wasn't joking and started to cry. I didn't really believe her until I got home and saw my Mom crying. I had the same reaction when one of the Antenna Engineers said, "The Challenger blew up". I said that it wasn't a thing to joke about..... But it too was true.

Sad events. I have been on the water all weekend escaping the heat (and nearly finishing the quilting inside all of the hexagons of the baby quilt). As I quilted, I thought of the Kennedy family and how sad it is. Especially for Rory, who was the person who tried (unsuccessfully) to revive her brother after his skiing accident. It was to be her wedding day, a day filled with joy. Instead, she will have another traumatic death to deal with. I also said a prayer for the Bassette family. They have lost two daughters.

To end on a happier note: We sailed to the Boston Harbor Islands for the weekend, and it was so calm, that we anchored in the lee of Great Brewster which is right next to Boston Light. Boston Light is the oldest lighthouse location in the US. Cape Hatteras Light is older, but there was a light on the location of the present Boston Light in 1617. The British blew it up as they left Boston at the conclusion of the Revolutionary War. The present lighthouse replaced that one. It is still manned by the Coastguard. The last lighthouse manned by the Coastguard. All others are fully automated. It was 97* in Boston on Saturday night, but it was about 75 out at Great Brewster! Ahhhhh.
The two Coastguard Auxillary members who were the relief team for the lighthouse keepers on their week off gave us a very nice tour on Sunday morning. We didn't hurry home on Sunday, since it was in the 80's on the water at 9:00am and not a breath of wind. We went out to sea as a Southeasterly wind came up. Maybe we thought would see a few whales, and did see two Minke whales. I got a lot of quilting done on the way back before the wind turned Westerly and "freshened" (nautical term for "it got windier"). Then I needed velcro on my butt if I was sitting to windward. We got back before the predicted thunderstorms.

Well - now is the time that we announce our ages. I well remember the day that Kennedy was shot. We were on early lunch break and at the picnic tables under the trees outside the choir room. I was a sophomore in high school. Our choir performed a monthly concert on radio and that month we dedicated the concert to John F. Kennedy's memory. I too, have never really been a Kennedy fan but I was impressed with the upbringing that John and Caroline had by Jackie. They stayed out of the limelight as much as the media would let them and they have achieved on their own merit. Such a tragedy!

Good day all. It's a bit gloomy with the news of JFK Jr. I've been catching up with everyone's postings since last week.

Cassie -- Congratulations to you and your daughter. How wonderful

Faith -- I'm so glad you posted about Deric. That's is so great. My DD's 3rd grade teacher in PA is an umpire at the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA, and from talking to him, I know how exciting this can be for kids.

Rene in SF -- Sorry I missed you on Saturday. I had driven up to Santa Rosa on Friday and got home very late, so overslept. Got there about 10 am and the woman in the store said she had seen someone with a little Doxie, so figured I had missed you.
I drove over to the fields to see if I could spot you with your Doxie, but didn't. You had asked about our store in Hollister "Timbers and Textiles". It's brand new, so don't think it would be on anyone's search server yet. You never know!
I was there on Saturday too. Bought the backing fabric for my pineapple quilt.

My sister and I had a wonderful time at The Quilted Angel in Petaluma. I found a Hoffman Christmas print with cardinals on it. My MIL loves cardinals, so I got it to make an Attic Windows for her for
Christmas. The side pane of the window is a hunter green Moda marbles. The bottom pane is a beautiful red. Not bright red, not muted, just perfect.

When JFK was assisinated, I was sitting in 5th grade Spelling class. A parent had called the school to tell the Principal (my teacher) about JFK. He pulled his car around to the porch area and we all stood around listening. He had one of the
8th graders lower the flag. I was supposed to have my 10th birthday party that Sunday and the girls from my class were staying overnight. But, since school was cancelled on Monday, and my folks felt it was inappropriate to be having a party when
our country was in such turmoil, that got cancelled. While my Dad did not hold any political office, he was very involved with the Democratic Committee (with the last name of Truman, would you expect anything less??), and I remember how JFK's
death affected him.

This will be a short week for me. Wednesday I'm leaving work early to drive up to Yountville to pick up my 87-year-old aunt and drive her down to spend time at my Mom's house. Their cousin is celebrating her 100th birthday on Saturday. The
rest of my Mom's family is coming in, so we're slated for a house-full of company. I'll be off until the following Wednesday. The kids and I are taking my Aunt back on Tuesday morning eary, and then we're going into SF to go to the Museums
in Golden Gate Park. They have both doctor and dentist appointments on Monday, so I thought they deserved something special on Tuesday. Starting August 1st, I'm back to work 5 days/week. It was nice while it lasted.

Our weather has cooled down a lot, and it is very nice. We went to a family friend's wedding yesterday and it was just lovely.

Hope everyone is having a good day despite the sad news from Martha's Vineyard.

Kitty kate--I wouldn't ahve a probles going out without my SO or if I was married my husband since he doesn't like to dance. I wouldn't do it on my own though. The only thing I can say though is that if your DSIL doesn't have a problem with it you really shouldn't get involved. It is really an issue of trust between them and mentioning it might just cause them to think too much about it and create a problem. BTW I've never really done line dancing but I would highly recommend swing dancing as great exercise. They started holding swing dances once a week at school this year and it was a blast!

To Kitty Kate: In regards to your post of line dancing - a girl friend and I got involved inline dancing about 5 years ago. We went every week for about three years. Our husbands are NOT dancers, although my DH sometimes went with us just to watch. In line dancing, you normally dance in a line withouth a partner and that is what we did most of the time. Occasionally, when the partner dances came up, we would be asked to dance. It felt a little strange, but we had no problem with it. Because Anne and I are "middleaged" we were not the first ones to be asked, since there were lots of young beautiful girls there, size 2 with blond hair down the their butt! That is not exactly the way you would describe us! But, we had a great time, and it was wonderful exercise! Most of the time, we did not ever learn the names of these guys nor were we interested. So, I guess it depends upon how friendly you get with your partner. Also, we did not dance often with the same person. DH was OK with it since he has never had a reason to mistrust me. Also, we were water or 7-up drinkers - that may enter into it. If both perople are OK with it, I think it is OK. Told my DH that he was welcome to come and "spy" on me if he ever wanted to because I was never going to do anything that I would not want him to see. Do not know if this helps - just my experience. Did anyone see the post from Alice about the old thread?? I have some from DH's DGM that is probably 60 or 70 years old, and would love to hear if anyone has used any and what their results have been in the longivity (sp?) of it.
Alice said that it is nice to use for HQ because it won't knot and twist like threads do today. I wouldn't use it in a frequently washed quilt but I have a round robbin that I might like to use it in for MY bed!!! (If you can believe it!! Only been quilting 9 years and I FINALLY have a top for my own bed!!!) LOL!
Any answers would be very much appreciated!!
Thanks!!

I would like the opinions of the BBers on an issue. Do you believe it is appropriate for married women to go to bars and dance with men? My DD goes to clubs where they do the line dancing and western dances. Several of her married friends go without their husbands. My generation would (I think) say it was inappropriate and would sully a woman's reputation and give her DH grounds for suspicion. You may email me privately or post. TIA
Take care and may God bless you and yours!

Subject: a pattern for a head wrap?
E-mail Address: shelmum@earthlink.net

Hi!
I hadn't visited this site in months due to complications in computer and life! But all
is well again as I have a computer and a quilting project going. (I'm pretty new at this, as
was recruited by my Mom. (I had to learn to quilt to get more out driving her miles and miles
and miles to various quilt stores.)

My question is actually not related to quilting, but is to sewing... months ago I saw this sewing
program on tv and if i was really bright I'd tell you the name. But I don't know the name, she just does
various sewing projects...

Anyways, she demonstrated the sewing of this head wrap and even gave the name of the place you could get
the free pattern from it. Apparently, some clubs make these for people who have lost their hair
for various reasons.

My best friend's friend has lost her hair and I'd like to make her some of these kercheif things.
If anyone knows of this pattern, or how to get it, I'd be most grateful!

Here I am again, been too busy to even lurk. I think it will probably not improve too much for the next month, and then school starts, sigh!

I just got back from a spur-of-the-moment trip to Kansas to visit my mom. She had pneumonia and got to spend a couple of weeks in the hospital. She was supposed to come next month for my DS's wedding, and the only way I could convince her not to try was to go there myself for a week. She's 83, and was still on oxygen part-time and probably will be for awhile, so it just didn't sound like a good idea for her to travel. While I was there, did get to have S.E.X. at the local quilt shop, brought home some great homespuns- I love plaids.

I did the arts and crafts show over the July 4th weekend with my friend. We both sold a little over $300 worth, not as well as we had hoped. We're going to wait until Dec. and do a show over the pass in Jackson Hole - decided to go where the money is!

Today DH and I celebrated our 29th wedding anniversary. We had a lot to do, so the big celebration consisted of breakfast at our favorite spot. Then we spent the day taking our 5th wheel camper out of mothballs. We're taking off early Tuesday a.m. to the Olympia WA area to visit DS #2 and see the area. I've never been to Washington at all. Wish I thought I'd make it to some quilt shops, but I think DH is more interested in the wilderness experience. He made camping reservations at a state park, and told them it was quite all right that there were no more spots with electrical hook-ups, we'd never had them before anyway. Of course we usually camp where there aren't any. Thank heavens for butane curling irons. Think anybody will ever come up with a butane blow dryer? I'd pay good money for it.

I didn't have time to read back far enough to find out who Ellen is ( welcome, anyway), or the story behind the map, but make me a chipmunk, always scurrying around and usually coming out ahead! If you think of Idaho as a boot, put me at the top end of the toe, on the edge, just over the border from Wyoming.

Will check in again after our return, before we take off to Utah for the wedding, then up to Spokane to visit DS #1!

Good evening!
I had a friend install a cyber pet in my puter. It's a sheep that does funny things on the screen while you're working; jumps, climbs, drops from the top of the page, and, for all you water bibbers, it pees. It is the funniest thing. It even comes fron the top corner as a flaming comet every once in awhile. I love this little ram!
Does anyone else have one? I've heard about an orange as well, don't know what it does though.
Congrats to your DGS, Faith. How wonderful! I'm sure sometimes God just gives us those little (or big in this case!) boosts to keep us going. What a great kid!
Sounds like a good weekend for BBers kids.
Time for bed. Gotta hit the health club before work tomorrow. Have a blessed Monday every one. Nighty-night. Sandi in MN

Heard of a wonderful quilt shop that's going out of business in western Mass. It's the Double T quilt shop in Springfield, Mass. The sale starts July 21-24 with 25% off fabric and 30% off books, patterns and notions. Then July 26-31 with 40% off everything. This is a kinda small shop but with really nice, different stuff. I'm sorry to hear it's GOOB.

VQF: Would have liked to go there to meet Marty, but the temperature stopped me. It's really BRUTAL at that show if it's hot, which it usually is. Maybe next year?

I had a really scary thing happen to me 6:30 A.M. Sat. morning. I awoke to hear glass breaking, then other noises. Someone was breaking into my apartment!!! I didn't realize what was happening at first, and walked into my kitchen to see the intruder forcing my kitchen door off the wall. I yelled at him and luckily he ran off. I was really lucky that he didn't come after me instead.

I too am not a big fan of pre-washing... I want to cut it up and quilt it NOW!!! I guess I didn't pre-wash enough.. but I'm a "go with the flow baby" kinda quilter...
Today NPSue, RJ and a fellow fabricaholic in training came out to my house and we dyed... and dyed... and dyed!! We have the most beautiful fabrics!! I wanted to wash all the fabrics here at my house this evening after they left... but they didn't trust me... can you believe that?!!... sheesh... some people.. I wouldn't have kept ALL of it... just that one really great purple and fucshia piece with the green and maybe that one with the deep redish orange... and maybe that...

old to do all that washing and ironing." Alex looked surprised and said "what do
you do if a quilt runs when you wash it?" Blanche replied, "make another quilt."
my sentiments exactly. No problems so far. Well I guess I do have to do a qualifier--
some fabric really smells bad (dye or something) and this I wash cause I don't want to
smell it while I'm sewing and pressing.

All this healthy lifestyle stuff just today reminded me of an old book I read 10 or so years ago that I need to dig out of the basement
and read daily.

The title of the book is "THE SUGAR BLUES."
It can still be purchased at www.amazon.com website and really opened my eyes all those many years ago. It's a pretty good book and I would recommend it for all you fellow sugar junkies out there. I think I need to go read it again, too.
Every day.

Celia----hang in there!!!

Cassi in Ohio----I thought I was the only woman on earth who doesn't pre-wash her fabrics prior to making a quilt. Glad to know there's someone else out there. I stopped pre-washing after taking Harriet Hargrave's MQ class several years ago. I've made lots of quilts since then and no tragedies yet. Leaves more time for the fun stuff.

DONI---I just finished reading "Summer Sisters." You read it earlier this summer, didn't you? How did you like it. I enjoyed it---a quick & easy no-brainer read. * * * * * BTW, I agree with your theory on the Kennedy family----there are so many (yes, gobs)of them and they are so high-profile. Lots of other Americans have the same tragedies to the same proportions, it's just that the numbers and fame aren't there to make it newsworthy.

Has anyone seen "EYES WIDE SHUT" yet? A friend of my DH's saw it last night and "did not like it." He used words that are not polite which I won't post to the BB (LOL) so I "rephrased" them since we are LADIES.
I'm just curious as to what others think. I won't go see it unless lots of people really like it. Any one else seen it yet?

I posted this info to Celia and she said I could tell all of you. My GS Daric is playing in the World Series of Baseball in OK this weekend. Before he left he told his Grandfather that he'd hit a homerun for him. He just called to tell us that he had been chosen to represent his team in the homerun individual competition held the day before the series itself starts. Then he called to say he had WON the competition, beating out 63 other players. When Bill, through his tears, asked Daric how he did that, the reply had us both sobbing. "I just stood up there and thought of my promise to you,Gramp and just swung." or words to that affect.
And this from a young man raised by my DD as a single Mom. His father had little to do with them until she had trained him to be an exceptional ball player. My hat's off to that girl. A proud Mom and Grandmom. Faith in S.Calif

I, too, remember vividly where I was when Pres. Kennedy was killed. I was 20 years old and worked at Standard Oil Company's district office. A lady came running off the sidewalk into our large building crying and telling us what had happened. Someone in the office found a small transister radio and the entire building of folks crowded around to hear what was being said. The company ran a service station (that's what we called them then) out front of the district office which was open 24 hours a day. In those days it was probably the only gas station open 24 hrs. in the whole city of Jackson. On the day of Kennedy's funeral the company decided to close the office and close the station as well. It had been so long since the service station had been closed that no one had any keys to lock the doors. I remember their haste in trying to get a locksmith to come and change the locks in order for them to be able to lock the doors. What a truly sad time it was. For three days there was nothing on TV but Kennedy assassination coverage. It was so depressing and heartbreaking. Have not always agreed with Kennedy politics but as a family they have suffered lots. What is the quote? - To whom much is given, much shall be required? Our prayers go out to both families involved. So sad........

JFK: Oct. 22, 1993. I shall never forget that day! I lived in the Long Beach, CA area at
the time but was visiting Mom & Dad here in Vermont with my DD who was just 3 mo
old. It was also my parent's wedding anniversary, so every year on that day I am
reminded of that tragedy even before there is mention of it on the news. That was the day
DD & I were flying back to CA and I had been given a belated Baby Shower by all my
relatives and friends so I had one large box that I was shipping, couldn't take it on the
plane. My Dad & I walked into the shipping office just as the radio announced that "Our
President has been shot!" I thought it was another "Invasion of the Alien's" type of thing
and I said, "What a horrible joke!" "No, No...this is not a joke. Kennedy has been
shot". We were stunned for a few minutes as we listened to the prodcast...right around
noon time I think. Well, then we had to get me and DD to the Air Port and of course we
had the car radio on...church bells were ringing all over the city and Dad drove right on
through several red light signals before we realized it. We were in a "fog" it seemed.
Anyway, we did get on the plane and of course there was not any more news until we
arrived on the ground in Los Angels. For the next few day I was glued to the TV and
anything that I accomplished must have been while I was in that stupor. The sight of Little
John saluting his father's coffin made me cry a lake of tears. Like some of the rest of you,
I have never been a fan of the Kennedy Family but I always felt so much remorse
everytime something bad happened to one of them. So much heart ache for that famiy
and now this. And I fear that isn't the last of it. I am so sorry that the media doesn't have
more to say about the Bassette Family. Their loss is just as immense, but Susan and her
sister seem to be just an after thought whenever they are mentioned for just a moment. It
is such a shame that some people are put on pedestals and the others are just an
after-thought. All have the same feelings. Anyway, once again I am drawn to the TV to
keep informed as to what is happening.

Oh well, maybe that was what it was meant to be...Sure love our chat page! Makes me love it that much more!

JFK...I was only 5 when he was killed... hadn't even started kindergarten yet..but I do remember sitting on my daddys lap and crying thru the whole funeral..my first funeral..so it was pretty tramatic for me...As far there being a Kennedy curse..I don't think its that as much as there is just gobs of them....if you compare their numbers with that of your own family..I heard today that there is over 87 of them..thats a gob of people compared to like my family..there is 36 of us and we have lost 10 of us at really early ages..I think it just more public...I think JFK Jr was like our Princess Diana...we all grew up knowing him..and Jackie made sure her children grew up right... we all remember him at a young age fatherless....that causes us to be fonder of him than the rest of the children...we always knew more about him and followed him thru the years..IMHO only....

Gotta go...working on a very special surprise quilt today...and all I have left to do is the binding...Have to get it ready for show and tell at Ohio..the surprise being that I actually got something finished this year! LOL!! But not without help from some wonderful friends!

At the time President Kennedy was assassinated, I was at my best friend's house, because her Father died that day too. I still lived in England then, and we always regarded the Kennedys as the Royal Family of the United States. Five years later, I recall vividly my whereabouts when his brother Robert met with the same fate. I had just purchased my air fare to emigrate to Canada, and was leaving the Travel Office, when the announcement was made throughout the Mall- every single person stopped in their tracks- and there was a brief shock-filled silence, followed by a hub bub of noise as people began their grieving. Since it was June, there were many American tourists present- I recall it as being so pathetically sad. My heart goes out to everyone concerened in this present needless tragedy.

Congratulations to Kirsten and of course Cassi for their tremendous efforts. I have enjoyed following this story, I think it is wonderful that all the dedication and hard work has been so well rewarded.

I am still being a faithful water drinker, and I do not know if it psychological or not, but after 4 days, I really do feel "peppy". I am also into day 4 of going cold turkey on sweet eating. Doris is my mentor, as a result of something she brought up in her post this week.

I have fibromyalgia, which basically is related to the arthritus family, compounded by a slight sleep disorder. The medication I take comes with a side effect of sweet craving. The greater the pain, the greater the medication, the greater the sweet craving- it just all goes hand in hand. Then Doris mentioned the other day that the sugar overload can increase the muscle pain etc. That is all I need- most days are manageable, some days are bearable, and a few days are terrible.

So, although not dieting, I am in Doris's "sweet detox"- am seeming to do fine so far, and have not even cheated once in 4 days. I am going to try it for at least 2 weeks to see if there is any pain level change.
Congrats Ursula- that is wonderful- if you pick up a 10lb bag of potatoes- that is the weight you have dropped- it is a measurable amount. Stick with it, you are doing great! Just keep that squishy shower in mind!!!

Ivon got back late Friday night, with 2 plump salmon- I only casually mentioned about the broken washing line, and not a thing about the garden maintenance almost crippling me, so I guess he saved his bacon- LOL!!!

Betty- I loved your comment about the chat page!!

Hugs to all,

Subject: Flannel
E-mail Address: Ohioccb@cwix.com

SORRY....I have to disagree with the previous comment about flannel. IMHO flannel absolutely HAS to be pre-washed. It is incredibly susceptible to shrinking, and a finished quilt of unwashed flannel could become a real problem!

Mind you, I am not a huge fan of pre-washing - I usually like liviing dangerously and don't usually have too many problems. But I would never work with flannel before pre-washing. I made two quilts last year - washed all the flannels in HOT water several times, plus dried it in a HOT dryer. Some pieces shrank a lot, most shrank a little bit and a very few didn't shrink at all.

Once you have washed the flannel, iron it with steam and use spray starch on the wrong side. This helps reduce the stretchiness. The key to working with flannel is to relax as much as it does LOL! Also, don't tug or pull it - it acts like bias edges no matter which way you pull it! Flannel doesn't give you nice crisp edges, nor is a block likely to lay completely flat, but it is warm and cozy and very comforting. Plan on machine quilting or using the big stitch to quilt it or tack it. Normal handquilting is impossible!

Cassi in Ohio....still exhausted, and accomplishing nothing at all today!
