Squishes twice in one day. We have a total of 111 blocks for David’s wife and children’s quilts. Okay, “I confess”, I had to figure out the flying 3-d pinwheels.
Cassie will be sending my blocks out to you with Cindy Reinke Auburn AL. and Lois Meyer Reva S.D.

Becky Feazel sent her blocks from New Zealand sorry about the typo on your last name. Would like to know more about your trip to New Zealand.

The ladies in my guild want to know how to do this block and I want to do that one. I had one young man, age 6 , make a block.

If any of you have any ideas for setting the blocks, I am interested. I will be contacting those who volunteered to help. I think we should wait till all the blocks are in as they are different and some the same.

I have just sat and looked at the wall where they hang. Each is beautiful in its own way. Thanks to those who sent material to me.

how is everyone??

weather here has been rainy but much needed,,,so everything is coming up well,,,spring has sprung full force,,
i won't trying leaving beer for the hostas,,,round the shrubs,,in the shade where all the slugs are bound to go for a drink,,,,i fear i would end up with some wandering drunk laying among the bushes in the morning,,,,i am using some wood ash,,,seems it cuts their bodies when they crawl,,,,have to reapply after rain,,,and there is something on market to sprinkle as well,,,does the trick,,,that and a piece of wood,,,they climb under in morning light so are easy to pick off if you've the stomache,,,,,or get the drunk guy to do it,,,lol

so,,the natural progression of things would probably now call for us to share what our hobbies are,,as the list continues to grow from all of us admitted ''fluffly'' quilters,,,,don't be shy,,,no pussy footing round now,,we are all lumped together in our hobbie of quilting,,,,,and as well rounded people we are so inclined to have any number of other interests,,,well rounded,,,in stature and in our lives,,,
so,,,,fess up,,,,what do we all do when we don't quilt,,,???

i will admit to being a horrible tease,,,generally up to no good,,,and too full of it usually,,,,among interest in sculpting, carving,,,painting,,crochet,to name just a few things,,,
anyone else care to share ??

hugs to all,,,,and welcome more new comers,,,,we are harmless cozy tea drinkers,,,

teacup,,,now where have i heard that before,,,oh yes,,,,it's marcie's nickname,,,,imagine what i can do with some of those nicknames,,,unmmm let's see,,,how to string some of these together??? will have to think some,,,

loon/marie/me...not outside much past few days,,will make up for lost time soon,,,,saw yellow butterflies,,,so good sign warm weather is here,,,,,blue,,orange,,red,,,,yellow,,,and other birds all around,,,imagine the quilt that could make just using the colors i see out my window!! if they would just sit still,,,

Another big delivery today....33 more blocks, bringing our total to 243 so far for the four quilts.

Florence S., Stratford, CT
Susan S., McAllister, MT
Sandra J., Seattle, WA
Sandra K., New Carlisle, OH
Regina W., Shawnee, KS
Susan W., Fresno, CA
Laura P., Harvest, AL
Penny A., Deerfield, MI
Sue F., San Ramon, CA
Kay D., La Luz, NM
Carolyn D., Caruthersville, MO
Sissy B., Caruthersville, MO
Mary R., Bismarck, ND

Kathy, Bev and Sue got to ooohhh and aaaahhh over the blocks on the way to Richmond, Indiana, today. Well, Kathy and Sue did....Bev was driving so only got to glance at a few. You ladies have done wonderful work!

The four of us invaded the Fabric Shack in Richmond for three hours....good sale prices for the closeout! I bought books, a couple of rulers, and lots of fabrics, including the backing fabrics for all four of the Reichert quilts. The poor saleswoman spent a long, long time cutting fabric for all four of us. We stopped at a produce market on the way home and bought fresh strawberries, cookies, breads and jams. We had 15 bags of purchases between us!

Need to go check the costumes for tomorrow's dance competition. Last time I trusted DD to do the packing and she left the danged feathered armbands at home! She was so flustered, she almost left the dressing room with one tan shoe and one black shoe on! So much for Mom letting the 14 year old take care of the packing....okay, she'll be 15 next month, but she still can't survive a competition without Mom!

Cassi in Ohio....thanks to Bev, Sue and Kathy for a terrific day!

Hello everyone, haven't read this board in days. Its too nice out, and the
kids have a lot of school stuff going on. The DH had surgery on tues. to have his
tonsils, uvula and mouth done. He also had his nose roto-rooted. He's outside
spraying the weeds, so who knows how much pain he'll be in later.
The reason I'm writing is, I have the url for the diaper cakes, but its not working.
I have: www.homeandfamily.com/features/spare/diaperck/html. The home and Family site is
not coming up at all. Am I in the right one? The MIL wants it for a shower in June.
Thanks a lot.

Two snoopy shuffles here for finishing 2 teachers quilts in the nick of time. Oh, all right
I don't have the labels sewn on yet. I was planning on going to a stamping party tonight, and
making enough for a couple years. Might have to go purchase some wine coolers too....after
this week, I'd drink the 4-pack!

Well, it's the start of a long weekend! Yeah!!!! And my boss is letting me leave early!!! So, one post and I am outta here!

One more thing about hiding places. I love the liver package idea! My mom's favourite was the put the baking in the turkey roaster. It was kept in the laundry room in the basement, behind a bag of rags. We actually never found that one out until she told us when I was already 18. I never have to hide stuff at my house. I have one roomate who is Miss Lowfat everything. So when I bake I take it over to my boyfriend's house and tell him to chow down. I like the process, but I don't need all the cookies myself (although I will still eat the leftover chips too!)

Well, have a good weekend everyone. Talk to you again on Tuesday.

On the right page this time? When I was getting my backpack ready (when my kids were little goomers) they would go through it and steal my candy. The nerve! I had to explain to them that there weren't any grocery stores where mommy was going, so taking her food was the same as making here starve, etc.

We have this obscession with girl scout cookies (not a collection because they don't last long enough) so when they're available we stock up and keep them in the freezer. We had to lock the freezer to keep DS out of it. Then he got hold of the key and locked us out. Kids. Gotta love 'em.

jdb, on the way out the door to backpack (got the knack; know the track; hope it doesn't cause a heart attack) hope the guys don't give me any flak (or I'll give their mouths a whack -- yeah right). Hope you can hack reading this.

TerTer -- Hey, Pleasanton sounds like a good spot. Pick a Saturday and let me know. Also, make sure you send me idiot proof directions. I'm not too good at navigation. One time when DH and I were visiting NC for a class reunion, we wanted to go and visit his grandparents, who lived about 70 miles away. So, I drug out the map and we talked about which route we would take. He wanted to go WAAAAAY out of the way, up through Asheville and then down to Franklin. Well, of course I knew better (yeah, right) and showed him this other road. He said, "are you sure?" and I said "sure!". Little did I know that this road was only 2-lane and went over the Cullasaga (please forgive me if I've mispelled it) Gorge with a massive drop off. It was a beautiful drive through the foothills of the Great Smokey Mountains, but much slower and many more twists and turns than had we gone the other route. His poor grandparents held supper about 2 hours for us to get there. Guess you know I haven't lived that one down!

I loved the quote for a baby quilt. Thank you for posting it. I plan to put it on the babyquilt for my DS's teacher on June 9th.

Doni -- what do your boys do during the summer? My kids are going to summer school. It's only for 5 hours/day, and only for a month, but I think it will help them forget less than if they just sat at home during the day.

The sun is shining here and it looks like we'll have great weather this weekend.

Happy Quilting to all!!!!

Love lime green/chartreuse. Linda B. is still making fun of me for buying 3 yards of lime green with little purple stars at Joanns one day. Well it is 60 inches wide and it was on sale and I love the feel of rayon. So there! I still plan on making something to wear out of it - and I have a pair of sandals to match. Won't that look cute with a yellow yo-yo. Probably will never live this confession down.

When my DS was home I never was able to keep him from snitching tastes of my "ingredients". Every time he visits now he peruses the kitchen cabinets and helps himself only now he doesn't bother to be sneaky about it. I love it.

Bought the neatest cookbook at a yard sale. No I do not plan on cooking but it was published in 1941 and I had to have it. Anyone want to know how to render fat, I have directions. Even tells how to monogram your napkins and cloth so they match and are in proportion and there is a great recipe for Opossum Roast among other things. I am going to enjoy reading this.

Did I leave cookbooks off my collection list? And another thing I seem to pick up is dusting powder boxes. Those pretty plastic ones. I have 4 now. There must be a use for them after they are empty.

I am still alive and kicking, just really busy lately, but have been checking and thoroughly enjoying all your posts.
I laughed this morning at Barb's "Liver" post- never ever thought of that one, but like most of you, I have a son who totally inhaled food when he was growing up. His favorite saying was "There is never anything to eat around here" no matter how much I spent at the grocery store!

When he was 4 we almost lost him to spinal meningitus, and for a long time after he was always very frightened about death, so one day I took pork chops out of the freezer and he asked what pork was. I told him it came from a pig, and he cried so hard that I put them back and took them out the next day, but told him they were "meat" and he said that was okay because he liked meat, but not "piggy chops"!!
Yesterday I received a very nice letter from the Massachusetts SPCA where Mary donated her Project Buford money to, - I thought you might like to share it, - it reads:
"A belated thank-you for your check to our shelter on behalf of your members of the WWQBB. As requested,we have ackowledged this gift to(Mary's name and address) and our staff and the animals greatly appreciate your project.

Sleepless Granny: You seem to be really overwhelmed with manipulation from your son and his wife. You cannot be expected to provide equal babysitting time if your circumstances are not the same, - that is looking at apples and oranges. First you need some rest, and then priorize your spare time, but PLEASE put yourself at the top of the list. If you don't, you will harbor resentment and it is destructive to your own health, be firm and set guidelines on your own terms. If you do that, you will enjoy the time you have designated for your granchildren.

I am finally going to be able to put my plants in this weekend, so who knows, I just might be a gardener next week!!

Have a great weekend everyone, I am going to a fabric outlet on Saturday, hope they have something good!!
Hugs to all
Celia

All this talk about hiding food reminds me of what Rachel had to do when she was in Iowa at college. They had one fridge on her floor and if you left anything good in it someone usually snitched your food! The only way she and her roommate could keep anything was to put it in a brown bag and write "Tofu" on it! No one would touch tofu!

When I went to get it-gone! From then on, anything I wanted to keep, got wrapped in aluminum foil, and labeled LIVER and put in freezer.Goes to show you how observant kids are,I wouldn't touch liver with a ten foot pole! The funniest thing, he is all grown now, and lives in his own home, but when he was visiting one weekend, I had resorted to the old trick to save some brownies for a meeting. He looked in the freezer, and said Jeesh now you guys eat liver?????LOL! Barb on Cape Cod

'ANOTHER GRANDMOTHER"
I'm sorry you didn't post your e-mail addy, I will answer here(maybe briefly). My kids have always lived far from they're grandparents..we are military. They are very attached to them!!! I am so sorry you don't have that connection. My mom kept in touch with them by using cassette tapes. When they were little she would just send tapes to them. She would tell them silly things about the dog, songs or just that she and Grandpa missed them. The kids learned their voices and the importance of communicating. Pictures for them (not Mom!!) really helped them too. I don't think it's ever TOO LATE to try and reach out. Please try....just address mail to the kids. My MIL passed away about 7 years ago but my kids know that they knew her the BEST they could. What ever the problem between you and your kids shouldn't be between you and the grandkids! I truly hope you will get to know them before there IS NO tomomorrow!

Sorry if this sounds like a sermon......my dad will be having suregery on Tues instead of flying here! I thank GOD for all the time I've had and pray for tons more!!! I only wish everyone could have what I have..parents who have loved us no matter what they felt! I pray I will always be that way too.

I thought I would share the words to a song we sing at a lot of GS functions -

Make new friends, but keep the old
One is silver and the other's gold
A circle's round, it has no end
That's how long I want to be your friend.

Just celebrated DD#2 this past weekend, so now maybe I can get back to

hello to all. only my second posting but i have read the bb every evening for the last week. it's so good to know that you don't have to be related to feel like you are part of a family. by reading all the chat, i can tell that this is truly a family. it's wonderful!

To: Baby quilt saying: How about something like "may the love and warmth put into making this quilt keep you loved and warm"

To: Another Granny: I am sorry your grandchildren live so far away. One of my GM's lived a few hours away from me, but she never missed sending a card or letter for a special event. She passed away without me ever telling her how much I appreciated her. My other Granny only lives a few minutes away, and I was inspired to begin quilting by her. She has made each of us a quilt, and I will always treasure it. Every year for the last 5, my DH and DSon, and I plant her flower bed outside her front window where she quilts so that she can enjoy it all summer. Last year we added a rose bed for her. She raised us when my parents divorced and we were small. She instilled great morals and thoughtfulness in each of us. I hope I can do the same for my DS. I guess what I'm saying is do what you can to touch their lives in whatever way you can. When they are older, they will remember. I'll be 35 this year, but sometimes I feel like my Granny helps me mature way beyond that.

Thanks to all who are still there. I'll try not to be so long-winded next time.

Went shopping today with DD who is home for a couple of weeks between college and waiting to start jr leader job at Girl Scout camp for the summer, and she was never a GS so that could be enlightening! LOL. We wern't looking for anything in particular, but of course hit the JoAnn's fabric store and got some 1/2 price batting and a few interesting looking fabric pieces that are residing in the washer at this moment, need to hit the dryer soon.
LoonMarie: saw some pretty fabric at Walmart with an overall pattern of Loons, thought of you and your feathered friend.
I also bought a panel that I just had to buy, it was on sale, of course, and makes into a backpack for a child. It is patterened with the Solar system on it . Of course I don't have a small child so would be willing to trade it for whatever, a bunch of fabric squares, a 1/2 yard of something, etc. E-mail if interested.
Then we came home and I mowed the dog yard, they have a bigger yard than most peoples whole yard, DH helped a little and commented that he wished our hay fields grew as well as the grass in their yard. All in all it was a beautiful day, guess the weather Gods didn't check my work schedule and let the sun shine ! Joanne in northcentral PA.

E-mail Address: kuiken@nrtco.net

Good evening all,
I so enjoyed reading about the kids eating ,Sondra. Two of my DS still live in the area and whenever they walk in it is to see what I have baked or am cooking. DDIL who live in this apt building always need to come and see what we have for supper. She has named herself the taste tester for My DH. As if he now needs to worry about eating my food for almost 36 years. It is pretty neat to see how she manages to sneak this food also. Fun to watch.
When ever DS#2 comes for a visit he never stops eating but then he is 6'4" . and you are right there are no hiding places any more. They know where they all are. Usually it is me that has to discover where they are hiding what I made for all of them. LOL
I found this today and I really wanted to pass this on to all of you.
So this is from me to you all

A ball is a circle,
No beginning, no end.
It keeps us together
Like our Circle of Friends
But the treasure inside
for you to see
is the treasure of friendship.
from beginning to end
Thank you all for being so incredibly nice and so very helpful.
Later,

E-mail Address: Obie38@hotmail.com

Hi

I have recently come into possession of an Instruction Book for using
Singer Portable Electric Sewing Machine 221-1. The book states
Form 19657 Rev.(747).

I think this is an original book for the Singer Featherweight machine.
I was wondering in any of you out there could tell me if this book is
for the featherweight machines, and if so, is it at all valuable. It
is in very good shape, almost perfect....with no missing or damaged
pages.

I have seen a few people post about their featherweights in the past, so
thought this might be of interest to someone looking for such a book.

There are a lot of virus warnings and Disney & Microsoft hoaxes so before you freak out that you might be affected... please go to: http://www.europe.datafellows.com/news/hoax.htm and look for the name of the virus or whatever you have been warned about(or inticed to do). We all use our comupters everyday and this will help to keep you updated. If you get the Happy99 or the CIH go DIRECTLY to them. They have free virus detection and removal.(they have the same service for other virus' as well.) No, I don't own stock in the company, LOL, but I have had to use them for the Happy99 worm and to check for the CIH. They update all the time and are very good.

Continued happy quilting & posting!

His widow's wife's name is Jean and she is from Potomac, Md. They have 3 children; Allison, 10; Megan 8; and David 7 mos. The twins will be 8 in Sept. I have seen them only 3 times. They and DS will be here for a week in June. I have planned a full schedule of fun things while they are here.

I typed this whole e-mail for quilting granny, then found when I tried to send it it wouldn't go. Please ladies if you want an answer to a question -- put a correct e-mail address!!

After some thought, I decided I'd just go ahead and post it on the board - others may benefit from it also.

Dear Granny:

My MIL refers to herself as a Granny also. Her favorite saying is "I'm a granny -- not a nanny." Every time I even think about asking her to watch the kids this rings in my head. Sometimes I'd rather pay a sitter (if I can find one) than put my kids in a place where they are not wanted. This is the granny who only had 3 kids and has 7 grandkids.

My mother had seven kids and has 22 grandchildren. She loves for her grandchildren to come and visit her and offers to keep them any time we run into a bind. My oldest niece who is now married with her own child still calls my mom to visit. They have a really good relationship. I think this is because she learned to know my mom so well when she was little. They formed a bond that has lasted 28 years. When my mom babysits, she says these are her IRA's. The love she gives now will be returned to her as she gets older and needs it.

Guess I've shared with you both sides of the story. The funny part is that my mom is about 10 years or more older than my MIL, but still tolerates the children better.

Hope you find something that works for you!

Happy belated B-day. I had to laugh at your laughing in the face of danger. It's makes me think of the line from the movie Antz where the main character, rather than laughing at danger says he just snickers and makes belittling comments behind death's, back. Anyway, it's a funny movie.

Forgot to mention the real reason to start drinking wine.
I have been reading a catalog from Keepsake Quilting. Mouthwatering !!!
Before I ordered I telefoned with customs.
As you know we have to pay import duties on things which come from outside the EEC.
If your order had a value below $ 30 you did not have to pay duties.
But what is $ 30 when youre looking at quilting supplies ??
Because in Europe we will have the Euro, the ordervalue, free of import duties, has been set down to $ 24. Thats nothing, so I will only look in the catalog, and maybe someday when I come to the USA I can take some quilting goodies home with me .
The free value than is $ 170.
Don't ask me why.

Cheryl in Edmonton -- My son is 11 and I agree with what you say. He'll eat us out of house and home! I love him though. He started out big...10# 3-1/2 oz. Yes ladies, that's the truth! Maybe it's a good thing he wasn't my first or I wouldn't have my DD!!!!!! She was tiny in comparison -- only 7# 10 oz., and still tiny! Claims she's the shortest kid in the 7th grade! Probably true! Takes after DH's grandmother. Thank goodness she's not built like me!

TerTer -- I'm jealous at your making strawberry jam. They're harvesting berries on Highway 25 between Hollister and Gilroy. They are so big this year, and juicy. Hope your jam turns out great. I did a batch of the frozen strawberry jam last year. My kids liked the apricot jam I did better though. They're taking out most of the orchards and putting in houses, so I don't know where I'll get my apricots this year. We have a place nearby that sells all kinds of berries, so I want to go over there this summer as well. Should be fun!

Happy quilting! Think I'll try to do some tonight.

good evening ladies, it's nine o'clock in the evening in Holland.
I would like to tell you about my day.
It started ok.
I work in the office of a school for children with learning disabileties, but we have vacation now, from Ascension Day (13-5) until Whitsuntide (24-5). I went to school, to bring the post from the mailbox, and did some copying (quilt stuff).
Then I went for coffee to my mother's.
When I came home, I tried to 'look' my English roses in to bloom (just a few more days and they will be).
After all this lurking about, I started to clean up the house (friends are comming over for the weekend). Oh, this sounds if I only clean for guests !!
The postman delivered a box with 4 CD's I ordered from my book/cd-club. Because I had to do some sewing, and my computer is in the same room as the sewing machine, I could listen and work at the same time.
Not good.
The jeans I was altering did not get the way I wanted it, so I had to take all the seams out again.
But what was the worst, the CD's were terrible.
72 famous songs is the title of the box.
Yes, they are famous, but what somebody did to several of those songs. Arranged in a way that they are hardly recognisable. I am disappointed and probably will return them.
The jeans are the way they were before.
Now I will go downstairs to my husband and open a good bottle of Burgundy.

Have a nice day/evening depending on what time it is in your country.

Evening everyone! Happy B-day, Meredith!

Potstickers are Chinese dumplings - they can be fried or steamed (we like fried best) and they are served with a tasty soy sauce, sesame oil, vinegar combination that we love. It's usually served as an appetizer. It's an eggroll wrapper stuffed with ground pork that's been seasoned and had some veggies added to it.

Boy that "L" really makes a difference huh...quiting...quilting...quilt...guilt...see a pattern forming here??

Michelle, alot of ladies use the hole in a barn door quilt pattern for a siggy quilt..its a pieced block that looks just like a churn dash block to me! you can see one at...
http://members.aol.com/baglady111/quiltblockkits
it shows a picture but no directions...but the WWQP has a 12" block for the Churn Dash block at...
http://ttsw.com/Blocks/ChurnDash/ChurnDashDirections.html
Looks like the same block to me..
I think there is a square dance block..but I have searched and searched and cant come up with one on the web...Thats probably of no help..but the center square is a great place for siggy's and big enough for a short message...easy and quick to put together also..so you might think about it..

I got my lilacs planted today..holes were a lot easier to dig a few years ago! Getting old? I have one neighbor that I have never seen, unless I'm covered with grass, grim, sweat...straw sticking out of my hair! Oh well you get the picture! I think one of these days Im just going to stop by clean, just to show him I am every now and then squeaky clean! He never stops uless I'm out doing yard work, and I have yet to figure out how to do that and stay clean and fresh smelling! Oh well maybe next time!
Mark said something about running a row of Lilacs on the outside edge of the shelter belt..lets see great idea but I AM NOT digging the holes! He can dig and I will plant! Thats the only way thats going to get done! He is forever coming up with "these good ideas" that translated mean.."why don't you do that"..cause I'm to old and just plain don't want to! I guess he figures if he has the idea, thats his half of the work! NOT!!

I think its time to drag out Bufords Shock Collar for ole DH again! I wonder if you could use one for the door way to the sewing room..If I bought three of them..and installed the wire under the carpet....and put one on Mark and both boys...hummmm....I bet that would end the losing of the scissors huh? They would all three be fried within a week! Yes, Yes the scissors are gone again and no one in this house hold has seen them..don't even know what they look like! Sure! I believe that! They are probably laying right next to the quilting thread that I never did find! Or the last pair of scissors that grew legs and walked off!

I am just joking, I would never put a shock collar on my boys..but Mark....I might!

Gotta go..sorry so long...You ladies got dumped on!!

Doni

Hello all. I posted on the bb this a.m. but received no responses and I am DESPERATE (as a matter of speaking).
Anyway, siblings and I are planning a surprise anniversary party for Mom and Dad. Sometime in mid-June. We are following a country theme, complete with barbeque/square dancing and a country line dancer/entertainer. I would like to construct an EASY signature quilt for about 50 people to sign and I would like the quilt to fit the theme (really, a wall hanging, nothing too large). I was wondering if there are any blocks that would fit this theme? Perhaps a square dance block, or am I having pipe dreams? I would like to avoid doing a barn block, but any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I sent blocks for Ridgeley and the Gibbs family. I used EQ4 for the block ideas and had fun making them, my DS gave me EQ4 for mothers day! Isn't he great?
Terter, have ;you been to Going to Pieces in Pleasanton? It is a cute little quilt shop on Santa Rita Rd.
I have to get in a mention for Nancy's Notions, I purchased an Ott Light six months ago, (the floor lamp) and it died. I called Nancys Notions after getting nowhere with the Ott Light Company, and they said they would send me a new one and to return the broken one. I got a whole new lamp in less than a week! That is great customer service! They will even refund the postage to return the defective lamp. Since several companies sell these lamps at the same price, I wanted to let everyone know what nice people there are at Nancy's Notions. Real people answer the phone, too!!

Picture this: on the patio early this morning, birds singing, beautiful day, coffee in hand. I stroll around picking off dead bloom here, leaf there, etc. Over in the corner the angel wing begonia needs attention so I am reaching way in and removing leaves when all of a sudden a tiny brown bird zooms out. Guess she stayed put as long as she could with me fiddling around. This is the same bird I "watered" recently. After being scared out of my wits twice I looked more closely and sure enough, there is a nest in there.
Haven't a clue what kind she is but I will enjoy having her here. Bluebirds appear to be feeding a family in their house so we look forward to seeing their offspring soon. And while I am at it, noticed a barn swallow busily stacking mud on top of one of the light fixtures on the patio.

Happy birthday Meredith.

Cassi - what are potstickers?

Had a cape once and loved it. Think it was a McCalls pattern. I made it out of wool plaid and it had red fringe all around. It was so fun to hand it so someone for them to try on, (and everyone wanted to try it on). It was a big circle with 2 holes for arms and you had to know how to fold it to make it work. Never been a ladybug tho. Sounds like fun.

Well, not that any of you need more amunition, but I HAVE to tell on myself after reading about the classy Red Ridinghood costume... (You have to remember I am VERY fluffy, not too tall...)
Every Halloween I become a GIANT ladybug, wings, (red cape with dinner plate size black spots) and all. I made the red body the same dimensions as a large garbage sack, wear black tights (now THERE'S a mind photo) and completing the outfit is a headband with long red chenille pipe cleaners ending with white styrofoam balls. (Homemade "dealy-bobbers" for you more mature folk...) It has won an award for both myself and my DD over the years. It also doubles nicely to wear while reading to grade school classes about lady bug stories or Mother Goose rhymes... As you knew before, or know now, I have NO pride and will be a ladybug on a busy city street, in a classroom or- I won a contest the first time when I went to my weekly bowling session, and we are talking league play, here, ladies. I needed a costume that could fit me and my very pregnant tummy! No shame... just lots of fun! Tee hee! Lindy the Yakima Yakker, of course! :?}

Good Morning everyone!

MER--I want to wish you a very Happy Birthday, too!! Hope you are having a great time on your vacation.

Sooooo busy around here lately with graduations and all that end of school stuff I barely have time to look at the boards! Only the 8th grade graduation is left on Monday. Oldest DS is now a HS graduate--it amazes me!! He's out of town job hunting for several days and I will have extra computer time!

Kaite Mac--just wanted to say thanks for posting the huge list of sites. I can't wait to start looking!

Have a great day everyone!!

Subject: Breast Cancer Stamp
E-mail Address: rlwofford@hotmail.com

Saw Loon's posting about stamps & breast cancer
and am guessing she has heard about the Postal
Service's stamp featuring Breast Cancer awareness.
I'll try and be brief.

The first ever Semipostal stamp was released July
29, 1998. The stamp sells for 40 cents and can be
used for first class postage (.33). The proceeds go for
breast cancer research. Seventy percent of the
net proceeds will be given to the National
Institutes of Health and 30 percent of net proceeds
will be given to the Medical Research Program of the
Department of Defence. The NIH and DoD were
identified as recipients of the funds by
legislation encacted in 1997.

As of March 1999 the sale of the Breast Cancer Research
stamp has generated more than $5.2 million for
breast cancer research. The stamp will be on sale
through 2000.

As a woman and postal employee, I am embarassed to
admit that I have not purchased a sheet of these
stamps yet. I have seen a sheet of these framed, and they make a very nice picture.
Recently a best friend from HS found a lump during
a mammogram. It was removed, and luckily it was
benign!

You can visit the USPS web sight at www.usps.com.
It has all this information as well as much more.

Got to run & buy my stamps.

Hi everyone,
I decided, since I started writing, I should tell about myself a bit. I'm a working mom (that's redundant). I am blessed to work in a quilt shop 4 days a week. And yes, I do manage to take home most of my paycheck. My kids are Lindsay(11) and Weston(8) and ken(40) oh, I guess he's the DH.
My last name is Irish. Really, it's just Irish, makes for a great email address, don't you think?Irishchain is also my business name if I ever publish anything. We have 2 cats, Leo and Ephriam. Besides quilting, I do wedding gowns, costuming, and my former business(as the Leotard Lady) was doing leotards, bike shorts, etc.
And, mostly, I praise God for blessing my life with good health, family, and the new friends I'm connecting with here!
Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Subject: Good Morning!
E-mail Address: Ohioccb@cwix.com

I've been busy, busy, busy the last few days! Managed to start machine quilting the Y2K raffle quilt and got a fair amount done yesterday - I'm just doing diagonal lines through the squares, but I should warn all of you, this is one big quilt to wrestle with!

I have also been trying to think kind thoughts about DD's Latin teacher, who is having an end-of-year banquet this evening with all her Latin students. First off, it goes from 5 until 8, which cuts into DD's dance schedule. Since it's a requirement to be at dance the class before competition or you can't dance (competition is Saturday) we are having to make a speedy exit and dash to dance after the event. Last night I had to make 4 dozen deviled eggs as DD's contribution to the banquet - somehow teachers think the students do this????? As if DD has two hours of extra time to make deviled eggs! This morning's assignment is to come up with a tunic (not really a toga, because the students are all "slaves"). I did convince DH to be the parent who goes to the banquet, so bless his heart, he's coming home from work early and is willing to don a toga to take her! (Must be a leftover memory of those toga parties in college working on him LOL). DS and I are going to have a date together....going for potstickers for dinner, which is a favortie for us!

After finishing the eggs last night, I sat and sorted out the blocks for Ridgeley and the kids. I bought an address book and journal set and started to write everyone's address for Ridgeley. The cards and notes you sent will go into the journel. The two books have a case they both fit into, so I think it will be a pretty extra to go with the quilts.

Haven't been on IM much lately (sorry Susan in NP) as I've been working at church cataloging our minister's books as they are being moved into a new office. This is the type of job that is great for me to volunteer for, as there is an end in sight. I've been trying to force myself to only volunteer for things that have a definite beginning and end, and this was perfect for me! I have about 5 more boxes to go and I'll be done - just a few hours more! I threatened him with bodily harm if he brought more boxes of books from home - what he has at church is more than enough!

Loon Marie....I loved hearing about your trip around the lake. I remember reading a short story back in high school about either a pair of geese or a pair of loons who mated for life. It was a tearjerker story....anyone remember the name and author?

Sorry to have bored you all with what's going on in my life right now....my fingers started typing and just wouldn't quit! Cassi in Ohio, where it's sunny right now but who knows what it will be like in five minutes?

RED CAPE - Picture this, October 1979 in German village of Riedenheim. I have purchased washable red wool and red and green plaid wool from the PX. I make it into a hooded cape that is reverseable. I wear my green dirndl, red cape and carry einkaufkorb. I go to the American school, where my DDs attend, for Halloween parties in their classes. I carry the goodies in my einkaufkorb. I wear this for Halloweens from 1979 to 1984. In the states in 1985 to 1989, I wear the aforementioned outfit. Still have the cape and still wear it. Small world of ideas, huh Chris? Believe it or not I did forget to tell yu all something. Terribly important. LOL My favorite thing to wear that I made is my Red Riding Hood cape. I always wanted one so about 15 years ago I made it from a copy of a pettern used in Ireland in the 1700's. I used red, black and white plaid wool for the outside and for the lining it is bright red "butterfly" lining. That is like a soft nylon which isn't being made anymore. I get so many compliments when I wear it. have been asked to reproduce it several times but they can't afford it. When I made it the materials cost about $75. Now it would cost almost $200 just for the material then add what my charge would be for it. then no-one wants it. that's okay I have one of a kind.

Several of you have asked how Lou Emma is doing. They were lucky enough to find a contractor that was free to start rebuilding their home. They have found a small rental house and are "making do" for the time being. She is not at all well. The doctors determined she had a heart attack. She would not stay in hospital for the heart cath to see how badly her heart is damaged. She takes a lot of nitro and has very little energy. I suspect she is putting on a good act until she can be sure she has a home again.

As soon as I feel all of your packages are here, I will take them to her. I have been keeping them until she was someplace where she could spread them out and savor them, one by one. She is going to be one surprised and pleased quilter. Will take pictures and post on Kellies page so all of you can share in the fun of the surprise.

Thanks for all the Email and concerns.

I so enjoyed hearing about all the goings on of the NW quilters on their retreat. It sounds like you all had a really great time. I would love to meet some Yo-Yo's I guess they just don't come to my neighborhood...speaking of is anyone coming into the city for the Empire Quilter's show this weekend. I know Michelle from upstate was planning on it.

I don't know about you all, but I spent yesterday hanging out at a mansion on the Hudson River while wearing a black toga. It was for a movie and I'm so sorry I didn't bring my camera. I would have loved to have pictures of this! The set was this huge old mansion on the river and my goodness was it beautiful. The movie is a comedy about a cult. I was a member of a rival cult and our little uniform was a black toga. It was pretty funny. All these people wandering around the banks of the Hudson in black togas....It was really sunny yesterday and I got a little sunburnt before the makeup people realized we all needed sunblock. So now I have toga tan lines, ah, the life of an actor.

I'm still trying to decide which way I want to make the bedskirt. To ruffle or not? White or colors? okay, not white, I'd have to keep this place a lot cleaner! This could take awhile, I'm not know for being real decisive.

Today I was able to spend most of my morning handquilting and watching "The Horse Whisperer". Loved it until DS called from school that his tummy hurt. He had a fever so I had to go get him. And there went the quilting. Not really he layed on the couch and watched the video with me. The only parts he really paid attention to were the parts featuring the horse.
Also just came home from my quilting class. After seeing the blocks that my students have pieced, I want to piece something too. Oh darn, I have to get back to the handquilting. I taped Joan of Arc and now I can watch it while I quilt. LOL. I mean listen to it. So glad to hear that everyone in the NW had a great get-together. Those of us in Alabama ought to do it and also have a great time.
Got to run for to the quilting frame and get busy. Later, Sarah in Alabama

Subject: Pac. Northwest Yo-Yo Retreat at Ocean Shores
E-mail Address: julieg@microsoft.com

I'll take the liberty of speaking on everyone's behalf who attended the Yo-Yo retreat at Ocean Shores, WA - we had a wonderful time! The first thing to greet us on the door of the beach house was a yellow yo-yo, thoughtfully presented by Betty from Oregon. She arrived first so got to sit in all the chairs, bounce on all the beds, etc. Sandy Toes (Seattle) & Kitty Kate (Lakewood WA) arrived next, followed in short order by Julie (Redmond WA), Deanna (Sequim WA) and Maureen (Portland, OR). You'd think we were moving in for a year or more by the amount of stuff carted from vehicles into the house. Sewing machines, fabric, show & tell items, movies, CDs, sleeping bags, towels and ... drum roll, please...more food than you can imagine. We were in the double digits in pounds of M&M's. In order to ensure no candy shortage we also had Reese's peanut butter cups, hershey bars, gummy bears, a pound of See's candy, jelly beans, and I can't remember what else. We had a gargantuan peach pie (from Costco, of course), a flat of strawberries, a dozen shortcakes, two boxes of brownie mix (we didn't make them), and the fixin's for the angel food/pineapple cake (didn't fix that either). And that was just the sweet stuff. I'm too embarrassed to itemize the chips and other snacks, and the number of bananas (we think they multiplied when we weren't looking).

We talked and sewed and ate and laughed. We learned a lot about quilting and each other. I guess I can divulge a few of the things: Kitty Kate keeps Muffins in her freezer, Maureen doesn't care for the color purple (imagine that!), Betty's prize winning quilt from Paducah is on the cover of the current AQS book catalog (congratulations, Betty!), Sandy Toes makes a mean enchilada casserole and does beautiful applique, and Deanna does lovely quilting and also gave us a pattern to make a bag to haul our projects around in.

If you have a chance to get together with Yo-Yo's from your area, do it. We are already thinking about the next time we will get together and we have two projects in the works: a small wallhanging for the beach house where we stayed, and round robin quilts where we will each end up with an identical little quilt to commemorate our retreat.

After the fun I had this past weekend, I am so sorry that I will not be at Ohio 99. But I do know that everyone who goes there will have a wonderful time.

I found your site the day of the crash and have been "lurking".
For the person interested in SUBASE Kings Bay - It is the US Navy's Submarine base located in Southern Georgia, not too far north of Mayport Florida.

The Bev Doolittle raffle - when is it? Mail takes 10 days minimum.

I tend to quilt the way my grandmother taught me - make 2 tops, add a blanket (recycled or new) sew them all together around the edges leaving a small hole to pull the whole thing through to turn it right side out
hand sew the seam shut, the tie the rest of the quilt. So far no brothers, nieces, or nephews has returned a surprise quilt.

Loon, I am SOOO jealous! It's been a few years since I've had a chance to do any paddling, and I recently realized how much I miss it. Unfortunately, my DH and i are both stern paddlers, and fight one another when we share a canoe. Would love to get a kayak and go exploring the streams and rivers near my house.
Yesterday there was a red tailed hawk so low over the post office I could see all its markings without binoculars. May have also been a falcon of some sort in the area---couldn't tell if it was a raptor or just a kildeer...didn't seem to be giving the right cry for a kildeer, though.
Even though this page doesn't have to be quilt related, did some piecing over the weekend while doing a Civil War reenactment...showed one of the other ladies how to string-piece (the old-style paper piecing using all sorts of scraps)and didn't see my blocks the rest of the day..couldn't wrestle the needle from her! Don't know why modern paper piecing seems so hard to me when the string piecing is so simple! Chris in PA

Well, it is cloudy and rainy for the millionth day in a row here. Life feels pretty sunny this week though. Work is great. Right now I am just working on my Master's project for the utility. Well, yesterday they offered me a contract over and beyond the duties of my project. They said a lot of really nice stuff and boosted my ego and confidence in my skills. And the nice part was my boyfriend taking me out for a romantic dinner to celebrate. Other good things this week? Well, it is my 24 birthday on Sunday, and it is a long weekend in Canada so I don't even have to go to work the next day. All I ask for now is some sun!

Loon, I have only seen a loon once (and I live in Canada!!!). Myself, my brother, and my boyfriend were kayaking off the Eaatern Shore of Nova Scotia. It was an overcast day and the only sounds were our paddles breaking the water and the rolling of the swells. We got some what lost but just kept exploring, with absolutely no worries - the shore was in sight. Then suddenly we heard the earily familiar call. Instictively we all turned to the right in time to watch a pair of loons take off from the cove behind us. Because they were in the air we kept paddling. But they would fly a little ways ahead and land. We followed them as they led and soon found ourselves in sight of the dock. Then they took off one last time and we never saw them again. They also led us to some seals who followed us almost the whole way to shore. To be able to visit and see them everyday? Well, you are truly lucky.

Happy Birthday Linda, and Happy Day everyone else.

Hey, you world travelers, if you're a siggy collector, remember to take your muslin squares and pigma pen on vacation with you. Last month I was at EPCOT center (Disney World in Florida) and all the college-age employees there are from foreign countries. (The girls behind the counter at that to-die-for French pastry shop are from France; etc.) Anyway, I'm still kicking myself for missing all those foreign siggies.

Another place to get foreign siggies would be Disneyland -- Japanese tourists everywhere. The Grand Canyon has its share too, if you can find the place. It's in Northern Arizona. The U.S. Postal Service (in its infinite wisdom) just printed 100 million stamps with a picture of the Grand Canyon with the caption, "Grand Canyon, Colorado." If the postal service doesn't know the location of a hole that big, how do they expect to find my little mail box? The Grand Canyon was carved by the Colorado River, but the whole hole is in Arizona.

Geographical trivia for the day.

so of course we can make do with anything life can throw our way,,,,,,be it an outhouse,,,or for those who had to so ''rough it'',,,well we are strong as the thread we sew with,,,so i say,,,,''use the batting for tp,,,,use the paper from the paper piecing!!!''
we can rought it very nicely when we have to,,,!!!
my only real problem with our bathroom redo was the fact dh could tell if i cheated and did not take my drat metamucil,,,,,ugh!! as much as somethings are private,,,,why or why did dh have to ''notice'' that!!!

we went on our water last evening!!!!!
nothing short of magical,,,,,wonderful,,,
and we approached the loons,,,,,,that's right i put an s on it,,,,,both of them out for their evening snacks,,,,,we came upon them quite by accident,,,i wouldn't think of startling them,,,but there they were,,,and they are HUGE,,,and so beautiful,,,,we just sat and stared at them,,,,and i talked to them quite-like,,,and pretty soon off they swam,,,,it was breathtaking,,absolutely breath--holding--taking!!!

and then dh paddled back to reality,,,,,poor old human-loon was tired,,,,,should of taken more supplies out with us...lol,,i was hanging over edge with tongue in the water,,,,,lol

hugs to all,,,,and welcome new comers,,,,,and the lurkers out of the shadows,,,i love the email!!! and i won't expose a one of you!!!

loon/marie/maine,,,off to insulate dh's pipes,,,,,and maybe in the canoe later on,,,dream a little dream of me,,,lol

TerTer -- you have a great lunch with Susan! I had originally planned to spend the afternoon with her, do lunch, etc., but taking a couple of days off last week put me behind the proverbial eight ball. So, we just chatted quilting and shopped at The Quilting Bee. There was a young woman working there who started talking with us and gleaned stuff from us about the Hoffman Challenge, etc. It was great fun to meet someone I've seen post, and have communicated with. Like a big dope, I had my camera with me and got half-way back to work and remembered I hadn't taken it out as I wanted to get a picture of the two of us together for Kellie's page. Take your camera with you, okay!!!!! At least one of us will have pictures to remember the day. TerTer, maybe one of these weekends, I'll drive up and you can show me your stores in your area. Maybe this summer I can take a day off during the week. Just let me know what is best for you!!! Susan is a wonderful lady and I was so sorry I didn't get to spend more time with her. I could learn a lot from her!

We have a new store in the town where I live. It's called "Timbers and Textiles". I've been dying for it to open. They're just getting their line of fabrics in, but I really like what they have. The "Timbers" aspect is furniture and it's to die for! I found a bedroom set I want. They talked to me about the possibility of teaching for them. Don't know when I'd find the time and by teaching, I'd have to give up my "amature" status and couldn't compete in the local county fair, which I love to do. I was asked to take over the baked goods section of our little fair this year. My answer was, "just as long as I can still enter quilts and sewing". They said I could as the departments aren't close together. Some day, I'd love to be in charge of the sewing/quilting sections. There is a wonderful woman handling it right now, but even she says she won't do it forever. She got the job by default! I'm really looking forward to this new duty.

Hope everyone is having a great day! Must get busy with my piles of stuff to do. Happy quilting.

I have been married to my gentle giant for 22 years. I have two children from my first marriage, a daughter 33 and a son 34. I have 3 grandsons whom I adore and spoil very much!! But that's what Grammys are for right? I retired in January after working at my job for 24 years. I like to quilt but am not perfect at it! I don't worry as long as my family likes what I make for them. I hope I can contribute to this board as it is my first time doing this. Thank you, Helen

Hi!
To Chris in C, KY. If you can get yourself a Webster's 1828 dictionary I'm sure you'd enjoy it. A lot of the words we use today have totally different meanings than what most people think. Our kids use this dict. for research at school. Email me if your interested in one, I can get one through school.
Speaking of which, my kids only have 9 more days! Yeah!! No more homework to check and lunches to make!

E-mail Address: Chrisagher@msn.com

Hi All, Guess I'd better do my profile/bio/collections/whatever thing. This Feb. I turned 61 so does that officially label me an old woman? Don't usually feel old just sometimess than I feel about 90!!! (NLOL- that's NotLOL) I have 5 children;11 grandchildren & 4 3/4 great-grandchildren. All but 4 of my family live on the west coast so I have an unacceptaable phone bill but whatcha gonna do? Only 2 have a computer for emails but then we exchange phone calls too. Yeah, I started early, V. early. I was 14 when I had my first of 4 daughters. I was married for 38 years to Joe my 2nd husband and my DH. The first husband was definitely NOT DH. Collections? Joe would say it's more what don't I collect (LOL). Books of almost any kind, crafts and supplies for each one, photos, dictionaries (I'm weird but I like to read dictionaries), Barbie's that I have crocheted fancy dresses for, some glassware such as compotes and tall colored vases, cookbooks and single recipes, and anything to do with quilting and sewing ( I've sewn almost anything you an name except bras and girdles and shoes) and almost any type ruler that has been invented and LOTS and LOTS of dust bunnies. Probably lots more that I can't think of at the spur of the moment. I do almost any kind of hand needlework(hardanger embroidery, cross-stitch, crewel embroidery, applique, knitting, crocheting), photography (taking and developing), geneology research( been on that for about 30 years), computer related stuff which has been my source of companionship with my cyber family, YOU. I have 2 Viking sewing machines: the #1 and the #1+ which I'm going to trade in on a NEW Designer 1 whenever they get mine in from the manufacturer. Waiting, waiting, waiting, waiting.........

See the BBPP for an update on my DGD Sandy. Good news.

You know.................. In rereading what I have written I need to try handquilting!!!!!!!!!! DUH!!!!!!!!!!! I never have because it looked so hard!! Bought Alex Anderson's book on handquilting while in Paducah so I guess I was thinking about it then.

In the mail today I receivied the prettiest Y2K fabric from the cottonclub.com. Check it out. Also, I have an extra view-A-Strip from Kaye Wood: if anyone wants it, be the fist to email me about it. It isn't a big enough deal to have a drawing for. I just happen to have 2 of them.

I also, have an ongoing list of birds that I've seen most of from my back yard. I have 3 bird feeders up each with a diferent kind of seed. it's great to see the interaction between the different types and how hungry, or possesive they are. There are 46 on my list and most are since I've lived in KY. Right now I have a flock of American goldfinches, purple finches, grackles, cowbirds, and cardinals who come off and on through the day.

Loon Marie: When I read your description of "meeting" your loon I felt as if I had been right there with you. I got goosebumps.

Another book, sorry.

See ya, Chris in C. KY

A WORD TO TOP SECRET IN AUSTRAILA... welcome to the bb and hope to see your post again. Have you thought about swapping fabric or blocks with some of us over here in the US? Are you familiar with the y2k exchange?? (I'm done, but still an enthusiastic supporter of the concept) I hope you find some "fellow" quilters in Australia because there have been a few of them on this board and quite a few on the trading boards - check out the y2k exchange on this main page.

I was out of comission again for three days, and with barely enought time to try to catch up tonight.... Glad to hear that everyone is doing well, good to see some new folks and fun to hear about collections...

I seem to get more nutsy about collecting (accumulating really) as I get older... I'm into teapots, especially the older, single serving/restaurant type ones. I started buying those for my kids when they were little and I would dose them with tea and toast when they were sick, and then suddenly, I just kept on buying them... Of course I collect fabric, isn't that a given?? I have to say that I am also a book collector, I haven't met too many books that I didn 't like, and once I like it, it is a keeper. I also collect rocking chairs I guess. When we moved to TX 11 years ago, I sold many in a big garage sale, but since we've been her, I've managed to acquire about as many more again!! One for each kid, which I rocked and fed them in when they were babies, and then a few I've not been able to resist (mostly "antique", but not 100 years old!!) - I refinish and upholster(when necessary). And I guess "lastly", I started collecting single place settings of interesting white china or porcelian ware, I'm up to 10 now, and when I have guests and on special occasions I set an eclectic table and really enjoy!! My DH has never understood it though and frequently mumbles, why don't we get some china that matches!!! Some of the place settings are reminders of favorite trips, which is special.

Gained another new "chick" for my classroom, this one a brother of one I already have. The two are night and day as far as personality and Of the two this newbie will be my early death. Does anyone know where Subase Kings Bay is? I picked up a military white shirt with that lable at the thrift store for one of my darlings whose mother CANNOT be watching what he is leaving the house in each morning. It sounds British and not American and would thrill his little heart to have a special shirt.
The nine patch workshop was terrific although for six hours it doesn't seem like I got much done. Marianne Fons is so nice. She didn't say a cross word the entire 3 days she was with us and even volunteered to rip seams.
Found the fabric for Kellie Andy's shashing. Its a mottled pink which blends well with the reds pinks and purples in the blocks. I have some of the blocks photographed and will post them to Kellie as soon as I can get Carrie or DH's attention. This being finals week is a stressful time. I'm not posting this on the other boards because my track ball does not do what I tell it to and Im javing major problems clicking and pointing where I want to go. It's new too-boo hoo! Hi All!

How do I get myself into these things? Not only am I doing another pastel quilt, but it's got eensy li'l pieces, embroidery, and a deadline. Ah well, it's for Mom's retirement and I've got to make up for being such a rotten kid somehow.
Read a neat tip, but haven't had cause to try it and can't swear to it's efficacy. It seems Safeguard soap (wrapped in a paper towel to protect fabric) in a plastic bag with smokey smelling quilts will remove the odor. I don't think it would hurt and it just might work.
I've got some fabric scraps and yarn that I was going to send to Ridgeley for Kosovo. Is Patty P. collecting fabric, or is there someone else making Kosovo quilts?
The comfort quilt is being laid out now. It is ecclectic to say the least, but it's amazing how blocks from so many different places and people are coming together so well. I'm off to check my mail for squishies, so life is good!

Blocks came in today from:

Linda W., Redding CA
Bonnie L., Mililani, HI
Marion L., Saint Joseph, MO
Debbie A., Crosby, TX
Anne-Mette N., Denmark
Joan G., Celebration, FL
Grace K., Golden Lake, Ontario, Canada

Sue R., Mayfield, KY
Celia P., Lincoln, New Brunswick, Canada
Pamela N., Charleston, NC
Marie N., Acton, ME
Deanna P., Sequim, WA
Susan G., Sparta, NJ
Carol W., Wantage, NJ

This brings our block total to 170! Thanks also to all who have enclosed squishies, notes or donations....as I said before, it's not necessary, but I do thank you!

I noticed today I was able to get to the bottom of the chat page and there are archives! If anyone is still looking for the guidelines for the blocks for Ridgeley and her kids, my initial posting was May 5 just before midnight.

Thank you Sue for forwarding the messages you received for Ridgeley. I copied and pasted them. I am overwhelmed by all the messages from so many countries. We really do reach these places. Whether they post or not, they are reading the boards. I think Ridgeley will, someday, treasure these messages. Thank you all for the love and concern you feel for her.
When I have all the messages and have edited them, I will print them out on colored paper and use another font. I will make it into a book for her and the children.

Hi quilters. I just had to share with everyone that today is my birthday. Yes, I have decided after many years of feeling depressed over birthdays that I would start celebrating them instead. The only other alternative is death so bring on the birthdays! There will be no household chores today, I will only do fun things. I have my little grandson with me so I think we will play in the park!! Does that sound like fun, or what! My grandmother died at a young age of breast cancer, so I will celebrate life in honor of her. She was a very dear gramma who taught me the love of sewing. Please celebrate all you have today with me, it's my Birthday. Happy quilting today!

Welcome, Jodi in Ithaca! You posted just in time for me to tell you my niece graduated from Ithaca College last Saturday!!!

O.K. I think this is the last brag, then my DS's will just settle down to being lazy, pizza-eating teens all summer. DS#1, a senior at Asheville High School, starred as Tevye in "Fiddler on the Roof" this last weekend. I went twice and cried and cried. It is a show about loss to begin with--especially about children growing up and becoming independent. He played the father, but I was the mother in the audience amazed at his deep, rich baritone voice, his enormous, all-natural red beard, his ability to be immersed in his character and to make us cry--and thinking, "He's mine, but he's no longer mine." Does anyone know the Suzy Bogguss song, "Letting Go?" That's me right now and it's hard! Anyway, DS was fantastic. Right after the last show he went into the boys bathroom at the school and shaved off the beard! He looks kind of like a child again, (even his brother said, "You look so young!") so I feel a little better!

Yes, I am convinced that the Serial Quilters are all totally nuts. In addition, I think they should all wear ear plugs every time they meet. They are LOUD!!! (Except for dear Just Me, Sue who is soft and gentle! HA! Well, she's the quieter than the rest of them which isn't saying much!) Had a great time "chatting them up." Don't want to see my phone bill!

Hi everyone!
I'm new to the internet, so please bear with me.
I've been quilting 5 years and have only 1 quilt to show for it. I'm one of those quilters who gives quilts for special occasions and it seems like there's always a wedding or birth about to happen in my family. Thus explains the e-mail address.

I, too, am a collector. Or rather, my hubby started my collection of snowglobes since our first year together. Married 10 years, I should have 11 snowglobes, but through mishaps, I've lost 2; the very first one he gave me, a small country church scene (was my favorite and is still vivid in my memory)and a mickey mouse classic.

Most recent addition was the Disney Villains, including all the villains from the Wicked Queen in Snow White to Cruella DeVille.

Currently working at Target Stores and looking for a change. I have a BA in Communication Arts and would love to work in a creative environment. Detroit area. If anyone has ideas, please forward.

Like I said before, I'm new to the chat room-- hope to hear from you all soon. Bye gals.

Hi everyone!
Well I didn't go through withdrawl from the comp. over the weekend but I tapped my nails as DH checked the new stuff on Ebay!
The weather in Northern Minn was yucky. Oh well, I almost finished the Mariner's medallion quilt from that new book by M'Liss Hawley. It's fun, lot's of techniques.
Sounds like the quilt babes in Wash. had a little too much fun. I'm envious of the coffee out there.
We also had those big, icky ants at the cabin. When the ones with wings showed up it was time for more drastic measures. Those bug bombs work well.
I also added more to the fabric stash. Batiks are my weekness. At my house it's no longer a stash, it's a resource center!

Have a really blessed Monday!

P.S. I also live 20 min. from the mall o' america', email me if you ever come for a visit!

It is put safely away for now, but after our move at the end of the year, I am going to have some built in hutches made for it. My quirk is those Jack in the box atenae balls. I have over 50 of them, I don't know why but everybody is now saving them for me. I may put them all on the Christmas tree this year!

My favorite collections are my quilts and my Lady Pictures. Some of my quilts were made by GGM and both GM's and aunts as well as some I have rescued and also some I have made. My 59 Lady prints are fashions of the l800's. Some from the Godey, and some from pattern books. Clear glass candlesticks cover the mantle so I now limit to one more per year. Depression glass, milk glass, old dishes, Tom Clark Gnomes, old linens, bonnets, aprons, old jewelry, old hats and boxes, buttons, thimbles, pincushions, patterns of the 40's, feedsacks, dolls, handkerchiefs (especially childrens). I have pretty much run out of room and have had to do some "creative decorating" to keep DH happy, and unaware! Mostly now, other than fabric, I limit myself to very good buys or very tiny things, like buttons or handkerchiefs or patterns. Do you know DH actually thinks I buy those buttons to use on clothes? LOL I know I have forgotten something because I like it all so it is hard to limit. Love hearing about all the collectors out there.

There's been something going on re: Quilts2 (Don't know what but I'd like to post something I read (don't remember where) that impressed me so much I printed it off to keep and mull over:

"I walked with my friend to the newstand the other night, and he bought a paper, thanking the newsie politely. The newsie didn't even acknowledge it. "A sullen fellow, isn't he?" I commented. "Oh, he is that way every night" shrugged my friend. "Then why do you continue to be so polite to him?" I said. "Why not?" inquired my friend. "Why should I let him decide how I am going to act?"

As I thought about this incident later, it occurred to me that the important word was "Act". My friend acts toward people, rather than reacts toward them. He has a sense of inner balance, he knows who he is, what he stands for, how HE should behave. He refuses to return incivility for incivility, because then he would no longer be in command of his own conduct. Serenity of spirit comes when we become the master of our own actions and attitudes. To let another determine whether we will be gracious or rude, elated or depressed, is to relinquish control over our own personality - which is ultimately all we possess. Always do what you know is good and right, always be true to yourself, and always act rather than react."

When I was first married, I REACTED to hubby and things got in a pretty miserable mess real fast. One day I thought to myself "I'm just going to be the best wife I know how to be and treat him like I'd like to be treated. Then, IF our marriage fails, it will be HIS fault!" Hey, guys! Guess what? He's still my hubby 39 yrs later and he's not so bad -- on a good day, ha!

Gee, I'd forgotten about my dollhouses! Put most of the stuff away when DS's were little, they were too grabby. I'd started remodeling , now Ds is 12 and would like me to get it going again, to help me wire , shingle, etc. Maybe... I have a bunch of roomboxes, and boxes of projects....My favorite is the baby store , with the bakery a very close second. I also have a little section of quilt shop, of course! I do miss the little aquarium that lights up, and the slate porch I laid , and the teeny tiny food that I seemed to collect out of hunger! I need more hours in the day, I guess.

I breath a sigh of relief! Relax. She starts yaking again. I shove her face in the bag again. This time we get all systems go! Gee, I'm glad I shop at Wal-Mart! LOL

I am nowhere close to being in the same league with some of the megacollections I've seen listed, but I do collect some things. I see I'm not the only one who collects dragons but I think I'm the only one who collects comic books! Or I'm the only one who is brave enough to admit I collect comic books! We collect books, too, much to the chagrin of our movers who have to lug the umpty boxes filled with books in and out of the house. Then there is the quilting related collections-fabric, magazines, books, and quilts. But that's it for me. I'm not a packrat and the weight limits for our household goods tend to keep our "stuff" to a manageable level.

DH came home with bad news the other day-he won't be able to take leave this summer because of the situation in Yugoslavia, which means our US trip is cancelled. Excuse me while I feel sorry for myself for a second--WAAAAHH!--okay, I'm finished.

Still, I'm seriously bummed. I was really looking forward to meeting a bunch of BBers this summer. Oh well. Maybe next year. You guys better not move between now and then!

The first request when I went up to ds was from soon to be ddil. Can I have a white on white quilt? You know white material and quilting all over. I would love to have one on my bed! Does Ter Ter come thru....

Material hike to Joannes in N.CA. and found 90"wide white muslin bought 5 yrds, cut it in half, laid it and the batting out, pinned along the sides, sewed, turned. Had ddil, help tie every4". We then decided what she wanted quilted. After drawing a center medalion and with 3/4"tape laid out a grid.

By the time I left the center was quilted and a 3x3 foot area of straight line quilting. She was very pleased and has it on her bed. Showed her how to do the line quilting and mentioned that she should work on it each night.

But just tied, it looked prestine and beautiful..Moms-i-law, aim to please...

Did teach her how to make strawberry jam, that was fun and she oweeed and ahddd over the ruby color!

I collect...Lots, my Mr. terter calls me after ME, Princess of Quite-a-lot!

So Sandy Toes and KittyKat are on the quilt weekend....Oh wish I could be a fly on the wall, no the dessert...Have fun you guys, enjoy and don't I repeat don't sweat the small stuff.

Oh dgd has 4 kittens to give away...so now I'm Nana TerTer to 4 kittens.... One is my mom's day present..but dh said NO!

I've been browsing this BB for several months enjoying everyone's chat's about quilting and everything else. Have never posted to a BB or chat room before. Been quilting for over 10 years. Untill recently everything has been hand pieced and quilted. Just starting to explore new techniques. Have decided I love machine piecing.

I collect teapots, teacups, fabric (of course) and quilt books and patterns, teacup and teapot ornaments (I have enough to do an entire 7 foot tree), video's, cookbooks and recipes and my DH and I collect Dept 56 Dicken's village houses and accessories. He collects other things as well.

We live in a large victorian house on a beautiful peaceful piece of property in a small village outside Ithaca New York (Cornell University territory). So collecting is not an issue at this point.

They are all so cute, just can't help but smile when you look at them. I got rid of a collection of dust bunnies this AM by doing some house work but unfortunately they will return! I'm starting a collection of bird houses to put in my dinning room when it is finished. Remodeling--just about done, waiting for trim. To those who are going through remodeling woes, the end result is worth the mess although it may not seem like it at the time. I have a fabulous new kitchen as proof. I'm not making alot of money at the garden center. Spent $70 this week. I get a good discount! Bought a Rhododendron and another shepards hook to hang oriole and humming bird feeders from, a bunch of dirt for a new flower bed. Have 1/2 bu. of hosta to plant. planted a small flower bed by the house last night. All pinks and purples. Hugs, Love, and Prayers to all, Mayme in MI PS I have had 2 indigo buntings at my feeders this wek. Also rose breasted grose beek.

I just can't start my day without getting on the Quilting page. Love the ant story. Bronzed work boots! I like the idea of using them to display fabric. I have always loved fabric. I remember when I was in Junior High, a long time ago, I would use my babysitting money to buy fabric. You could get alot of fabric for a dollar in those days. Two and three yards of fabric for a dollar!!
I'm showing my age now! Home ec was of course my favorite subject. The construction of clothing was my thing in those days. After many years of sewing for many children of my own, I decided fun quilting projects would take first place, like quilting!! I wish you all the best of quilting days. I made a quilt with color photorgraphs and I need to know the best way to preserve the pictures on the quilt so they won't fade. Is washing in vinegar the best way or is there a spray I can use? My Mother in law says some of the pictures are already losing some texture and color. Help, help, help.

Hi from Australia
Anon address as DH is a computer scientist and extra careful about security!! Well, this is my first net experience and my first contact with world-wide quilters etc. It's very exciting and am looking forward to contact with other ladies with a similar passion. I am a BEGINNER and made my first quilt when REALLY sick with post-natal depression - it was a labour of love to my beautiful Sofia who is now 2 1/2 yrs old. She uses it for her dollies and to keep cosy. Am starting a p & q class on May 24, can not wait and will keep you posted. I am so envious of you ladies in U.S. who have the wonderful sources at your fingertips - motivation for fellowship seems to be much greater there too - lets get Australia going - or maybe it is and I just haven't tapped into it yet. I miss America so much - as though it were home and I was only there for 5 weeks!! We could come and live there as my husband's an American - raised in Australia - I don't think I'll get him to do that somehow! Collections - I am thinking of collecting thimbles - as I'm a keen needleworker - I don't know that our home needs more clutter - DH can't part with anything - a chip packet from ten years ago was found and he ummed and ahhed about that! Worrying!

Good morning everyone! Just wanted to share the story of the midnight rescue of 5 kittens dear. Was a windy night as I headed to bed. I should move the kittens from the window well I said. DH said they're fine - no storms around here, so I went off to bed, only to see lightening quite near. Soon the rain came, small hail and the winds. I checked out the window to see my dear friends. They were wet, but OK, but I still had to fret, wish I had moved them and they wouldn't be wet. The rain picked up and was pouring down, and their cries became a quite bothersome sound. I decided I'd wait till the rain stopped a little, then I'd run out and cover the whole in the middle. Once more I looked into the window well, to find water rising about the sill!! I changed from my PJ's, my rain slicker I found, and rain out to save them, for fear they would drown! I counted them twice as I loaded them up, took them to the shed, and covered them up. This morning the first thing on my mind, was the fate of those kitties, but I found they were fine!

Just can't resist getting in on the collections talk. I collect Halloween decorations, especially lighted spook houses. It takes me weeks to get all the stuff out and looking just right. Used to have the biggest Halloween party in town. Everyone came in costume. Also collect angels and any thing Americana. I've never really called it collecting-just buy what I like. My DH is a pack rat-still has his childhood toys, which the grandsons now play with. Back to the garden-did someone mention borax and water to get rid of creeping charlie? Could you e-mail me with the formula? It's not creeping anymore-it is on a race of it's own. Coramay in central PA.

Hey Lois in Beautiful Ohio, I too collect P. Buckley Moss prints. I love everyone of them. Have them in almost every room in the house. Also collect old family quilts, baskets, trinket boxes, fabric Boyds Bears and of course a few Beanies. Sounds like we all have so much in common. Back to work so I can quilt in the evening. Have a good weekend. Fran in Central PA where the sun is out and its gorgeous.

In the past two posts about collections - I forgot to mention the Boyd's Bears (the figures); the teddy bears (just a few including MY teddy bear. He will be 52 this year); and the doll beds which I make quilts for.

I got a kick about the gal who hopes her DH doesn't add up the cost of her quilt books. mine wouldn't have to - I have a list, including cost, and an insurance policy to cover the cost. I figure if, God forbid, anything ever happened that we had that kind of loss I would think a long time before asking for house insurance money to replace my books, so made a list and they are insured separately. For about the cost of a new book a year I know I could replace my books if I had to, or could use some of that money to replace fabric, which is not insured.

Well, I am the tardy one....but have to put in my 2 cents. I too love Longaberger baskets, and keep adding to my collection on a regular basis. I really use those, so does that count as a collection?? We also collect coffee mugs from all over, and they have to say where they are from...so kind friends who've been places I probably won't get to have contributed to that collection. I also have a small collection of green depression glass, and old silver. Yes, Cassie, I LOVE the lod silver, and can't wait to get my share from Mom....there's something very relaxing about polishing a big pile of silver, especially before a party. Jeanne in CT and I once polished nearly all of my Mom's stuff before a family dinner, and it was fun. The refrigerator is probably going to fall over from the magnet collection that is all over it.

Then there are the colections that I know will one day be mine....MiL's Hummels, and lennox christmas china....Mom's cookbooks, and my grandmother's miniature pitcher collection. I may have to share some of the pitchers, since my siblings like them too. I enjoy the anticipation of those collections too, since I get to help dust them occasionally.

Off to White Flower Farm today, they are having a perrenial sale and I have a special invitation card!!

I am (sigh) a squirrel.I tend to collect trach other people discard. I have tons of school related stuff other teahers have thrown out in the 26 years I have been teaching stored both in my room at school and in the gargage. Everytime I toss something, someone else asks me if I have anything that will work for a particular child and I haul it out. As a traveling teacher for about 10 years, I didn't have a home based school and still don't know from week to week which materials I'll need for the newest chick just added to my flock. Its hard to let go. I also own mega quilting books and magazines and the family collection of science fiction rivals the Smithsonian. I am also the official keeper of the family archives for the Armstrong clan so I have all the birth ,death, and objects that were not valuable to be claimed by the older generation, but to dear to be thrown out . Every year I display them and produce a family history newsletter for the Thanksgiving reunion.
I wish someone would leave me a find like on Antique roadshow instead of bronzed size 10 workboots. (Yes, Grandpa's workboots were bronzed by one of the relatives with money but no space to store them) My biggest collections are fabric which I can't resist and santon. Santon are Department 54 like Christmas figures from France. I sarted collecting furing my college visit to France and got some more last summer- boy have they gone up in price! The bad thing about collections is that no-one is as willing as you were to purchase them and its hard to find someone who will pay what you did if you want to get rid of them.or at least it seems that way.

Carol in Wantage...I tried to e-mail, but it didn't go through..forget which board I saw your post on..hope you find this response here...Carol, a friend of mine made a quilt several years ago with the help of her friends using the line drawings from the Good News Bible relating to healings. She traced the drawings onto squares which we then backstitched, with the Bible verse listed under it. My friend suffers from bi-polar disease (manic-depressive) and she said it was quite a comfort to wrap herself up in God's healing touch and the love of her friends when the disease would start to take over. She is continuing to do wonderfully, and I am delighted to have her ongoing friendship, which could so easily have been cut short by her illness. Hope this helps.....Chris Haines in PA

Good morning all,
Well it is shaping up to be one of those gorgeous weekend with absolutely beautiful sunshine. Been very busy for the last while and have hardly done anything quilty, so could not even make any comments. Have been visiting all the BB/PP/CBP. every day though and it has been fun reading about all the stuff.
Hello Katie Mac, just knew you couldn't leave us. Your too good a friend.
Loon Marie, every time I go down to our lake shore , or if I am out early in the morning and hear the Loon on the lake , I say Hello to you. I have always loved the sound of that bird.Haven't seen them yet, neither have I seen the Blue Heron yet. I will though, one of these days. Just have to be there at the right time.
Collections, I wanted to tell you about my collections. My favorite is coffee spoons. That started because I was born in Holland, but grew up in Canada. When I got married my Aunt in Holland sent me a spoon set, of all the provinces(in Holland) complete with a spoon rack to hang them. Well since then I have been collecting them. Now I have over 450 of them. Most of them I have bought myself on some of the trips we have taken ,but I have a dear friend who a few years ago did a lot of traveling and also brought some back.
DH collects bottle openers and must have over 1500. They are very hard to find now because most bottles you can open now without openers, so it is much more of a challenge.
The other thing we collect a lot of is memories. We are sort of celebrating being in the same busines for the last 25 years this weekend. Last night we mentioned this to one of our customers and we got to talking and she said."YOU REMEMBER THAT". Well yes of course we do.. That is a GOOD memory. There are many and we will likely do a lot of it(remembering) over the weekend and the next couple of weeks.
Thanks for letting me carry on like this. Have a great weekend all and
HUUUUUGGGGGS to all.
Grace in Ont.

Hi all! Everyone was talking about their collections, so I thought I would tell you about mine. I collect cobalt glass. This collection started when a customer of mine brought me one piece. I have always loved blue, so I have added quite a few pieces since then. I also collect small 4-5" teapots, that sit on a shelf in my dining room.Another thing I collect is quilting books, I often say, I hope if I die before my DHB, he doesn't add up the cost of those books!I too collect friends, I love people! Having worked with the public for 29 years, as a hairdresser, I have met many wonderful people. A few not so wonderful ones, but they are few and far between.I have also found that those people usually have a reason for being the way they are, and can always find one small thing to like about them. One of my closest friends laughs that I advertised for her in the newspaper! When I first started quilting,I didn't know anyone else who quilted, so I put an ad in the paper, asking for quilting friends to come to my house! That was 12 years ago, and that ad in the paper evolved into the wonderful craft group called" Ladies of the evening."We meet once a week, going out to dinner at a different restaurant, before we meet to sew, knit, or whatever. Mary on Cape Cod belongs to that group, and is one of those wonderful friends that all began with an ad in the paper! Well, hope you all have a great weekend, the weather on cape Cod is beautiful today! Barb

Hi All! I have been reading about all of your collections and felt the need to add in my two cents worth. In fact, DH says that is one of the things I collect. Actually they are tins, cups/mugs from friends, Star Trek books and movies, and postcards from everywhere and almost anyone. I especially liked getting some in my Y2K swaps. DH laughed each time I opened a squishie with postcards in it. Like the others with multiple sewing machines; I have 2 computers with printers, 3 TVs and believe it or not 4 VCRs (many of which are in use at the same time). Often when I get around to cleaning my apartment I will have the same program on in different rooms in the house so that I don't miss a single minute. But I must agree with some of the others that my most favorite collection is the friends that I have made through quilting and this BB. You all have come through time and time again for me. You cheer up my days and give me that push to get something completed.
Like Brenda, DH is winging his way to Egypt and will get there sometime Saturday afternoon. He hasn't seen his DM for almost 13 years and I am on pins and needles (literally, cause I'm in the sewing room) waiting to hear from him. I was also deep in a banana split with chocolate and marshmallow sauce on it when I read Brenda's post.
Well need to get off the BB and have the phone clear for DBIL to call. I watched "Stepmom" and have "Star Trek: Insurrection" and "Everafter" on the agenda. Y'all take care now! Y'hear?

Hello Chat Board Buddies! (How's that for a greeting?) I want you all to feel sorry for me...the DH is running off across the big pond to England AGAIN!! Geez, he just got back two weeks ago and now has to leave again...grrrr...

Collecting - I've enjoyed reading about everyone's collections - especially when dust bunnies are mentioned. I don't feel all alone! (LOL) I suppose it would not be a great surprise to any who know me if I said I collect "Cat stuff" ha! Figurines, stuffed animals, pictures, fabric, T-shirts, and anything else imaginable that looks like or is shaped like a cat. (I feel so much better after confessing that, ha!) Next would be old sewing machines and sewing stuff - especially old pin cushions.

Well, better get to bed. Have to get up early and head off to the airport. Think I'll hit a grocery store and pickup some ice-cream to wallow in while I mope cuz the DH is gone (boohoo). Later kids! Brenda in Indiana >^..^<

Someone mentioned books--I never really thought of my books as a collection, but I guess they are. They've kind of overtaken the apartment--too many, but we keep buying more! Please describe your quilt so I can watch for it - it's too bad quilts can't wear yyy. This event is special to our family because our neighbor's daughter was born with a bad heart and spent her entire 9 months (minus the 2 weeks she lived at home) of life in that Ped.
