Good evening all!
Linda B., congrats to you and your DH on 40 years! Go for 40 More!

Kitty Kat, on your scan tomorrow; remember, the facts and the truth are not always the same thing. The Drs. will give you the facts as they know them, but the truth of God's word is that by Jesus stripes you've already been healed! We'll be praying for you tomorrow morning at the church prayer group that I lead. You are a dear lady!

Nancy the sewbird: I think the leading cause of death in our foremothers was eyestrain from sewing by candlelight.

jdb: in Minnesota we say it's not the heat, it's the stupidity.

Only 3 more days 'til the MN quilt show. Anyone need a brunch ticket for Sunday morning that is going? I have one I need to sell, I really need to be at our shop's booth.

I almost forgot, Lindy, are you out there? Have you recovered from the weekend of maniacal sewing?
Enquiring minds want to know!

Nancy, Dahling! Tell the Ott Light Company they "Ott" to invent a battery-operated light.

To all of you who laughed at Rachel's description of growing up in the Nostril of Montana: you may think it's funny, but it's snot.

To Kitty Kat Woman: Good luck on your Kitty Scan tomorrow.

Question for the Day: If you develop a fabric fetish from too many Stash Building eXpeditions, would that be considered a S.E.X.-ually transmitted disease?

Just wondering,

Subject: No electricity here, either
E-mail Address: klindatx@aol.com

Nancy (the sewbird snowbird) we had no electricity here yesterday afternoon for almost four hours in 95 degree heat, and again last night for about three hours. No storm, just suddenly NO AIRCONDITIONER!!! DD#2 and her three boys (twins who will be two in August and 3-month old baby) were visiting, and of course went home immediately!! I wrapped crushed ice in a cloth to put on my head and neck, and tried to not move! No way was I going to drape a hot quilt over my lap to quilt, even though I had time for some "quality quilting time!" Eventually everything came back on -- making me thankful for all modern conveniences, including my computer. Missed you all, since I hadn't had a chance to read the BB since Friday AM.
BTW, this daughter may turn out to be a "keeper" after all!! LOL She has "discovered" feedsacks, and wants to make a feedsack quilt. Her sewing experience is limited to buttons and yo-yos. This child is a technical writer, very computer literate, and has already scanned in samples of feedsacks (from internet, of course) and arranged them in blocks. Wow, she even claimed my stash of feedsacks "in case something happens to you." We all know what that means!!
I'm relaxing from a wonderful weekend -- DH and I celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary, and both daughters and families were here for MAJOR cook-out, which also included home-made ice cream. (That process really impressed the twins.)
Got to go and try to catch up on all that's been going on all weekend.

Subject: AM I HAVING FUN????
E-mail Address: sewbird@win.bright.net

NOT!

DH gone fishing and time to myself - by candlelight!

Can you believe it? At 3:30 yesterday afternoon the storm of all storms hit here and off went the electricity and the phone. Off I went to the basement. Our lake, while rather large, looked like the ocean and for awhile I thought the pontoon boat and dock would be headed downshore together. But they held, the storm subsided and still no electricity. It didn't come on until this afternoon.

That brings up the question - how did our foremothers ever quilt? Their lives were certainly busy during the daytime hours doing what had to be done. I can tell you from last night's experience, that hurricane lamps and multiple candle sticks doesn't do it for light.

Nancy the "sewbird" snowbird really looking forward to her upcoming Ott Lamp.

Kellie's back from her minivacation and thinks that the file with 80 odd individual blocks must have been a tad LARGE - well duh! Anyway, I will con DH into scanning and sending the small group photos while DD puts the gigunda sized blocks on her site for all to see, After bribing her to spend 4 hrs this afternoon working out a way to post them I dare not hint that her efforts were in vain. I'm planning to work on putting it together this next weekend if all the schoolwork is completed before Friday. It's too hot to think as I am in an unairconditioned room all day. Glad to see it's still cool enough somewhere to enjoy my mac and cheese! It's such a great cold/cool weather comfort food!

Thought I should post about receiving raffle ticket money:

Bev Holdren
Sue Bruns
Kathy Braswell
Susan Voegtly
Gay McDaniel
Brenda Blaylock
Regina Wofford
Kathy Mole

Each one thinks she has the winning ticket - and a few bribes have come my way too! Well, okay, they're not bribes really, but the FQs are appreciated!

As usual, I'm running late with dinner - can never seem to get it started so that it will be done on time before we have to head to the dance studio by 6:30. Just a couple costumes left to do some minor things to and we should be all set! Recital is this weekend....classes continue through the end of the month. Then it's dance camp and then national competition!

Looked at the schedule for the summer and figured out I only have three free weekends between now and when school starts. Something happening every weekend! Of course, during the week is down time, which means the kids will probably be driving me nuts wanting to be chauffeured all over the place. One more year and DD will be driving - a mixed blessing, but I am looking forward to passing at least a little bit of the driving responsibilities on to her!

Wonder if the potatoes are done cooking - or will we be trying to eat half raw ones?

Cassi in Ohio....someday I'll get organized! yeah, right!

Where do I begin? How do I begin to express my sincere thanks to the following whose delightful squishies arrived today? We are fascinated that with all the scrap quilts I have made, none of these fabrics are familiar to me, nor are there any repeats. Today my mailbox was filled thanks to: Marge, Mi, your flowers go beautifully with those sent by
Susan, Ks, and I see why it is your favorite.
Nancy Weber,WI with quilt instructions too.
Grace Kuiken,On, who sent three friends +flowers
Kelly Cassidy,WA with very friendly fabric(word friends written here and there on it)
Lois Walser,NCwhose bright polka dots will help me make some child very happy
Frances Carroll,PA pansies are my true favorites. If you send me your e-mail address I'll explain why
Celia,Canada, who sent me her heart<G>
Linda Warren,Ca, the colors are so gorgeous
Linda Choudoir,WI,I first noticed the pansies smiling at me
Judy Birchett,AZLots and lots of friendly teddies
KarenReed,KS yellows are my weak stash and I love to use them for perkiness.
Penny Albain,MI,I'm not sure they are meant to be cherries, but my DH loves cherries and that's what came to mind and colors were perfect
Marie Pees, MD gorgeous southwestern print

I certainly hope you are all reading the postings so you know how much joy you have brought. Today we finally contacted an oncologist and I have found that hard, one more step toward accepting reality. These really helped. Faith in S.Ca

JUDY IN OHIO: I think you haven't missed anything, but to be honest, I wouldn't be able to tell! Wasn't sure you were doing what you talked about doing, but I've been really careful to post everything I get! Now if that confused everybody else, well, you'll just have to be confused! LOL

DH put together my new floor frame last night - now I just have to glue the fabric strips on and figure out how to actually put a quilt on it.

Went to a graduation this weekend - the girl I made the Northwinds Weathervane flannel quilt for with the big stitch - she loved it! It's so nice to have your work appreciated - especially by an 18-year-old! Bawled my eyes out at the graduation. Here's a tip for those attending graduations and weddings this month: don't use Puffs with Lotion. I kept dabbing my eyes, hoping my mascara wasn't dripping halfway down my face (couldn't remember if it was waterproof or not). As we were leaving, DH looks at me and says, "What on earth happened to your eyes?" Well, flakes of tissue had adhered themselves all around my eyes - lots of little white flakes. Looked like an absolute idiot!

Had a great time at Serial Quilters last Friday - Just Me Sue got a new Gem sewing machine. This is New Home's modern day answer to the Featherweight - weighs 11 pounds, comes with its own carrying bag, accessories, etc. It was so cute Kathy B and Backyard Susan decided they were going to buy ones too!

Almost done with binding the double sawtooth - the wedding is June 26, so I'm doing quite well with my schedule for this project. Have a bearspaw I wish I could get done machine quilting by June 18, but not sure that's going to be possible. Kids are out of school now and my time won't be quite so much my own!

I just finished an Afghan-sized puzzle quilt with the Big Stitch and the look is really great! I was surprised at how fast it went. I used 3 strands of embrodiery floss for the stitching. The batting was needlepunch so it was like quilting through butter. I think you'll like it.
Would somebody please send some of that heat over here. It's only 60 degrees and my feet are very cold. Hope everyone has a great week. (((Hugs))) Jana from Wash.

You guys are going to groan like crazy....but I did it. I took about a tablespoon
of chlorox with some Delicare and it came out really easy! Stop shuddering! I had a
burgundy print on the front that didn't fade either (as yet anyway). I remember this
same burgundy fabric bleeding like crazy into the corresponding fabrics the first time I
washed it....so it should have gotten its just-deserves! Alas, the quilt will survive.
Its my heart and cat quilt that was originally a wall-quilt that I enlarged. It really is
my favorite.
Talking about urinary-tract infections and the first-time....My DH was the 'first' and I
was having troubles. Went to the doctor, (Mom was 425 miles away and I wasn't about to
admit to anything anyway) and the doctor gave me a firm talking-to about pre-marital sex,
and taking it easy, and the diaphram and everything. Shoulda listened! The DD told me the
other day she wanted babies, and wanted to know if you had to be married to have them. Told
her "YES!!!" I Told her that "she had better be married before she has sex the first time too!"
Oh, how times change. But, sex, the first time, and babies never change.
Well, I promised the kids they'd go swimming. Darn if it isn't that-time, so I guess I sweat it
out on the side of the pool. Bummer.

Liz in KS Congrats to your son for his medals! Very proud of him and all the contestants.
Pat in FL I have a FW & LOVE it. Very portable. It belonged my my Gr. Aunt & she didn't use it much.
Yes the Breast Cancer Stamps are still available & should be for a long time. I thought I had seen a notice that they were going off sale; it was a different breast cancer stamp, one with the pink ribbon that went off sale.
Brenda in IN I'm glad you mowed your yard instead of baling it! I have the "opportunity" to help DH bale alfalfa this weekend. What an experience. Only hit him with two bales (out of 163). I lost count of how many missed the wagon! Guess I need more practice in positioning the thrower.
What has been anyone's experience with big stitch quilting? Did you like the look? I am thinking of using it on a 18" wall hanging I made for my Sis and another wall hanging that is for the 4th of July. It has 4 flags & a border. I saw something in F&P magazine that said to use crochet thread.
No one else needs to buy raffle tickets from Marty, I got the winning one! And will have the winning one from Cassi also. I wish!
Hope to get the AC fixed today. Turned it on last evening & about an hour later I noticed a smoky smell. The basement was filled with smoke. Think the motor on the furnace burned up!
DS#1 (14 yrs) started a real job today. He helping out on a construction (house)crew. They are replacing a roof today. Sure hope he doesn't fall off, keeping my fingers crossed that I don't get a phone call.
Hope everyone has a great week & finds time to work on your quilt projects (in between being mommy, spouse, gardening & career time (and all the other things that take us away from our projects).

Sally from England -- I have a book "Fun with Fat Quarters" by Nancy J. Martin published by That Patchwork Place. It has instructions for 10 quilts including Delectable Mountains, Indian Trails, Mock Log Cabin, etc. Color pictures of actual quilts, and illustrated directions for each of the quilts (in several sizes). It tells you how many fat quarters you need for each size quilt. Nice. (No affiliation, etc, etc. Just like the book.)

E-mail Address: lalbain@cass.net

I can't remember when this was talked about, but someone mentioned buying your postage stamps and part of the revenue goes to Breast Cancer research. Well I just went to the P.O. and asked for some. I had heard it only ran one month. Its still going on. You buy 20 @.33 for $8.00. Normally it would be $6.60, the "change" goes to the cancer fund. This is a really great way to make a donation and still get some benefit. My postmaster said it will go on indefinely and they have to have them available to the public. But she said I was only one of a few who had asked about them . You can guess who's going to spread the word in my town. Why don't we all do that?? Ask your postmaster if they have had many requests, if they havent', then you know that not too many people know about it.
Maybe this has been brought up b/4, but I couldn't remember. I guess repeating ourselves on something this important doesn't hurt.

Good morning all. I keep looking out the window praying it will rain yet another day so I don't have to go out and weed. My garden and flower beds have been taken over by jungle looking plants (not tiny weeds anymore more like plants and trees). You've put a curse on me all this talk about breasts. Can anyone guess who got mastitis this weekend? Yup and I'm still hitting the ceiling every time my son nurses.

Kids didn't go to sleep last night until after 1:00 A.M. Having too darn a good time I guess. Hoped they'd sleep in this morning but No, up bright eyed and bushy tailed. I'm lumbering around stubbing toes, mumbling and grumbling, wondering if the garbage truck that came earlier hit me or something. Couldn't quilt if I wanted to, probably'd poke my eye out. My DS#1 keeps asking me to make him some eggs for breakfast. Afraid I'll burn the house down. For that matter, I probably shouldn't weed either because I'd hate to pull the wrong thing (more likely a muscle) so yup, better just head back to bed. Hope you all have a great day.

E-mail Address: dorwald@aol.com

Hi all----I'm back from Wisconsin and trying to get caught up on BB. What happened to the postings prior to yesterday? I only get one page. Bummer. This happened last night, also.

Wisconsin was wonderful. We were in Kohler for 4 1/2 days. Great food, killer golf courses, wonderful cheese, really nice people, but no quilt shops close by. Went to the spa after "killer golf", and got a "mud wrap." That was really different, and slightly bizarre. But somehow rejuvinated me. Go figure.

The Kohler (plumbing fixtures) museum & design center was really awesome. DH & I saw every kind of potty, sink & tub they make (even saw the ones in the Home Dec/Remodeling mag ads). Of course, ALL the fixtures "on campus" were Kohler brand. Even on the golf course, the "potties" had really cool designer Kohler sinks & faucets instead of the usual $29.95 fixtures from Lowe's or Home Depot that you generally see on golf courses.

The drive up from Milwaukee was picturesque. Beautiful farmland & red barns everywhere.I would move up there tomorrow except for the winters. Then I find out their summers are almost like the ones here in Tennessee. It was hot and humid there when we left, just like TN when we arrive home. I guess we'll just stay put.

I hope the "archives" resurface.

Usually at this time of the night or day depending on how you look at it. I look at it as the dark side of the moon and I should be asleep. DGD 3.5 yrs. is spending the night and after watching Dirty Dancing and doing all the dances at least every time the music came on and a quick trip to the DQ and a bath together she loves the bubbles, I'm exhausted but she was still going strong. Hence 2 storybooks later and sleeping on the couch, she is finally asleep so we can go to the park tomorrow and work. We are going to have a planning session at the park since gramma is playing hookey from the job. I can't believe I'm still up. I have just been ROFLOL at your stories. I dislike snakes intensely and shudder at the thought of someone actually picking one up and flinging it anywhere.

Well,(I know, thats a deep hole in the ground)it started raining again last night, this morning the grass was growing out of control and the rain has been with it all day.... Do I care? Noooo, just as soon as the new toy gets here I will be on the job!!!!!!!

Brenda in In. - It be OK with me, just as long as you leave your little friends at home while you are in Ohio........ THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!

Welcome, Pat in muggy Erie,Pa. We all hope you enjoy the BB, but should you not, let someone know and we will be sure and get something started!!!!!!!!!! This could be anything from your sex life, snakes, feet, kids, Santa and Ms. ?????, ect., ect., -----------

Rachel in Ut. and Kathi in Idaho - I found my map and then found all three towns. What really got me started was Kathi talking about Rexford and the Amish Auction (are you sure you didn't mean Hutterite's). Not one to turn down a good auction I thought, great I can run over there Saturday.... Kathi, Rexford is only 1/4" from British Columbia, got to be at least 500 miles from me!!!!!!! Next time, could you give a girl a little more of a warning????? (LOL) I was in Challis about 7 years ago.... A friend of mine has family ( and I have the newer rig (even then) so I always got invited along) in Pocatello and Hazelton. That trip, he wanted to go by way of Challis in order to put in an application for a mine (?) somewhere around there.... Anyway I remember sitting in the back seat sewing down the binding on two quilts.... Long trip!!!!

Pat in Fl. - Yes on the Featherweight.... I take mine to classes, sewing at someone elses home and may take it to "Ohio 99". I am not sure just what information you need, but, enter Featherweight on a search engine and you should find all kinds of info.. If you don't find what you want, let me know and I will try to help....

My get up and go just got up and left, so guess I best do the same!!!!!!!

KATIE MAC: You are a treasure, keep the stories coming, I love them. After a very busy two days running after the 4 year old DGS #12, I needed a few laughs. I'm having a harder time keeping up with the little ones, DH says maybe I need more exercise, maybe I'm too darn tired for more exercise!!!
MARGE: What a DH you have, and he gardens TOO.
He is a keeper.
RACHEL: I like your definitions. After having 5 kids and feeling like I gave birth to the 13 grandkids,(tonight) I can definitely relate.
Been reading all the posts about breast exams, I check my little darlings every time I shower. I'm not really paranoid just worried that I won't catch it in time. With breast cancer in my family, (A male cousin has had breast tumors removed) I'm very careful. My Dear Gramma died at only 54 and my mom had double mastectomy at age 20( still alive and kicking at 71). I just discovered I can check my breasts and almost type at the same time, HA HA, have to keep that sense of humor. I'm staying alive, staying alive, as the song goes!
BETTY IN PA: I loved the info on printing only the stuff you want on a page. It works very good. I have been using a method I learned here on the BB, minimizing and bring up the notepad. You can put as much as you want on notepad, then come out and print what you want.
I certainly hope everyone has had a wonderful day.
Happy quilting to all.

When my parents built a house on Table Rock Lake in Missouri, we used to have black snakes come up to the porch and stretch out on the concrete to sun themselves. We used to pick them up and throw them out in the yard to try to get them to go away. Sometimes we had to throw them out more than once to get them to leave. I didn't mind them but the scorpions were attractd to the concrete as well and I could have lived forever without running into them!

Hey, KittKate, did Ridgely call you collect? I must have had another brain fart. You said your DH was going to kill you about the bill. I called Celia in Canada and talked for three hours once but I paid the bill before my DH saw it!! LOL He never knew! Not that he'd care if it was important to me. He's a keeper.

We lived in a "stilt" house once. It was a really neat house built up in the air like a tree house and it was in the trees but three summers in a row a queen bee (I'm sure not the same one) liked our house so much she brought her whole colony and set up home in the walls of our house. Twice a bee keeper came out and carefully "rounded them all up". The last time he just asked me if I had a canaster vacuum. I did and I gave it to him. He sucked them out of the house with the vacuum!!

Well, work starts early in the morning so I bid you all a goodnight.

He has tried all kind of breads So I don't argue he makes his bread, then outside he goes to his garden . It keeps him happy

One shouldn't put themselves out there like this but looking back, It's kindof funny. After I graduated from highschool, I worked at a Hallmark store and people would bring me these cards just killing themselves laughing that joked about P.M.S. Of course, they'd have to share them with everyone and I couldn't understand why everyone were in stitches. I thought P.M.S. stood for "Pre marital sex". ha ha.

just received this from a flaky uncle-in-law. For once he has a point.

THE MOTHER OF ALL URBAN LEGENDS

I know this guy whose neighbor, a young man, was home recovering
from having been t in his bucket of Kentucky Fried Chicken. So anyway,
one day he went to sleep and when he awoke he was in his bathtub and it
was full of ice and he was sore all over. When he got out of the tub he
realized that HIS KIDNEYS HAD BEEN STOLEN, and he saw a note on his
mirror that said "Call 911!" But he was afraid to use his phone because
it was connected to his computer, and there was a virus on his computer
that would destroy his hard drive if he opened an e-mail entitled "Join
the crew!" He knew it wasn't a hoax because he himself was a computer
programmer who was working on software to save us from Armageddon when
the year 2000 rolls around. His program will prevent a global disaster in
which all the computers get together and distribute the $600 Neiman
Marcus cookie recipe under the leadership of Bill Gates. (It's true -- I
read it all last week in a mass e-mail from BILL GATES HIMSELF, who was
also promising me a free Disney World vacation and $5,000 if I
would forward the e-mail to everyone I know.) The poor man then tried to
call 911 from a pay phone to report his missing kidneys, but reaching
into the coin-return slot he got jabbed with an HIV-infected needle
around which was wrapped a note that said, "Welcome to the world of
AIDS." Luckily he was only a few blocks from the hospital the one,
actually, where that little boy who is dying of cancer is, the one whose
last wish is for everyone in the world to send him an e-mail and the
American Cancer Society has agreed to pay him a nickel for every e-mail
he receives. I sent him two e-mails and one of them was a bunch of x's
and o's in the shape of an angel (if you get it and forward it to 20
people you will have good luck but 10 people you will only have OK luck
and if you send it to less than 10 people you will have BAD LUCK FOR
SEVEN YEARS). So anyway the poor guy tried to drive himself to the
hospital, but on the way he noticed another car driving along without his
lights on. To be helpful, he flashed his lights at him and was promptly
shot as part of a gang initiation. And it's a little-known fact that the
Y1K problem caused the Dark Ages.

While it may have been in joking tone about a DH finding a lump in your breast, it happened to me and it saved my life! DH discovered a lump (which I'd known about, but was sure was a cyst---because of fibrocystic disease). He insisted I see a doctor. I saw four---and all four thought it was a cyst (one, in fact, said that if I were his wife, he'd just watch it for awhile). It did, in fact, turn out to be cancer---I was 37 at the time---shock for all of us. It had spread to the nodes---and I endured chemo and radiation---but, so far, all's well that ends well---that was in 1985!

Doesn't matter who checks, it just matters that someone checks. A few years back the General's wive complained that a young man (!) was doing the mammograms---heck, I wouldn't care if it were a green monkey doing the mammogram, as long as it was done properly---so what if it's a little embarrassing and it feels like putting your boobs in a vise---

Just do it,

So what will he be giving me? One of the GOOD (well brighter anyway) floor model Ott Lamps. And the most exciting part is the 25%off any one item when I went to order online from Nancy's Notions. Someone had posted awhile back their problem with their Ott Lamp and the wonderful return service Nancy's gave her. I took her advice and decided to get mine there also.

Thanks Monica from the reminder. We just lost DH's 50 yr old cousin to breast cancer which started with a lump in each breast, one detected by her. Hopefully this self discovery gave her an extra year or two.

Subject: Tax on E-Mail
Big Government Plans to Tax E-Mail: SB 602P
Senate Bill 602p is in congress now to start
charging up to 5 cents per e-mail

Please read the following carefully if you intend to stay online and continue using email:
The last few months have revealed an alarming trend in the Government of the US attempting to quietly push through legislation that will affect your use of the Internet. Under proposed legislation the US Postal Service will be attempting to bilk email users out of "alternate postage fees". Bill 602P will permit the Federal Govt to charge a 5 cent surcharge on every email delivered, by billing Internet Service Providers at source. The consumer would then be billed in turn by the ISP. Washington D.C. lawyer Richard Stepp is working without pay to prevent this l legislation from becoming law. The US Postal service is claiming that lost revenue due to the proliferation of email is costing nearly $230,000,000 in revenue per year. You may have noticed their recent ad campaign "There is nothing like a letter". Since the average citizen
received about 10 pieces of email per day in 1998, the cost to the typical individual would be an additional 50 cents per day, or over $180 dollars per year, above and beyond their regular Internet costs. Note that this would be money paid directly to the US Postal Service for a service they do not even provide. The whole point
of the Internet is democracy and non-interference. If the federal government is permitted to tamper with our liberties by adding a surcharge to email, who knows where it will end. You are already paying an exorbitant price for snail mail because of bureaucratic efficiency.
It currently takes up to 6 days for a letter to be delivered from New York to Buffalo. If the US Postal Service is allowed to tinker with email, it will mark the end of the "free" Internet in the US. One congressman, Tony Schnell (R) has even suggested a "twenty to forty
dollar per month surcharge on all Internet service" above and beyond the government's proposed email charges. Note that most of the major newspapers have ignored the story, the only exception being the Washingtonian which called the idea of email surcharge "a useful concept
who's time has come" March 6th 1999 Editorial) Don't sit by and watch your freedoms erode away!

Send this email to all Americans on your list and tell your friends and relatives to write to their
congressman and say "No!" to Bill 602P. Kate Turner Assistant to Richard Stepp, Berger, Stepp and Gorman Attorneys at Law 216 Concorde Street, Vienna, Va. Thomas J. Konopka Technical Support Supervisor Ingram Micro

The end of the post has that dramatic "ring" to it that makes me wonder if it is a hoax, but I thought someone out there is bbq chat land might know.

E-mail Address: brrubow@deseretonline.com

It's on days like today (Sunday) when I think, "who ever came up with, Sunday-a day of rest." If anything, it is one of the most hectic days of the week. Trying to get everybody bathed, dressed, and out the door in time for church. Then to wrestle my four darling boys through church which completely exhaustes me and then to come home and put some sort of meal together and eventually after cleaning up and all the mommy duties, fall into bed exhausted wondering why I'm starting out the week drained rather than rejuvinated. I'm told "there is a time and a season" and "this too shall pass" oh and "been there, done that". All I can say is, I'm here, doing it, we're full bloom into the season and the only thing that is passing is well, what can I say? I'm surrounded by little boys who think bodily functions are hilarious and have the worst timing. (Ex. yesterday during a baptism right smack in the middle of the prayer. Thank you very much DS.) Actually, I love my boys to peices and wouldn't change a thing (except some sort of energy pill). My DB says it's hard to think of your children as little angels when you see them sleeping when you know that they are recharging. He has 5 kids, two of which are twins. Ha Ha. Anyway, I have a 5 year old, an almost 4 year old, a 2 year old, and a 7 mo. old and the biggest boy of them all, my DH.

Susan from MT. Even if you had a map, you wouldn't find Darby. If you look at the western border of MT., it looks like the profile of a face. Well, I grew up right in the big ol' nostril basiclly. Fourty-five minutes south of Missoula. Crazy how life is, couldn't wait to get out of the valley "Bitterroot Valley" and now that I'm out and have kids of my own, I realize what a paradise I grew up in and would pull my eye teeth out to go back. Sigh..

So much for being able to work on my quilt yesterday during the LONG drive. Had to drive up and it was after dark on the way back. Never fails......

GOOD NEWS: DH, all on his own, asked if I'd mind if he moved his weights and work out equipment into the garage freeing up our spare room. WOULD I MIND? Wahoo, can anyone guess what the spare room is going to become? YES!!!!!!!! Anyone care to do a jig with me???

Hope you all have a great Sunday and may it be a day of rest for someone out there.

Good Morning everyone! The bakery is just about ready to get going, ha! I couldn't help responding to jdb/AZ about bread machines. They are great inventions. My mother has had one for several years. One of my SIL's uses hers to knead and do the first rising, then removes the dough, slaps it around a while and lets it do it's last rising in a regualar 9x5 pan. I do not have one because I haven't sampled any bread from one that can withstand the DH's quality control test. If a slice can't hold up and not tear when being buttered with COLD BUTTER - it's out of here! Rotten child, ha! So, I bake a lot of whole grain, pretty dense stuff, probably could also be used to build houses (LOL). The DH affectionately refers to it as his brick bread. (Did I mention that he was spoiled?) Also, I don't have any rugrats to chase or work outside the home, so there is more time for me to take life's frustrations out on some bread dough. I do cheat once in a while and let the KitchenAid mixer do most of the kneading when I feel extra lazy.

Bye for now - better hop to it down in the kitchen. Brenda in Indiana >^..^< (Might I add that a well fed husband is a happy husband, and a happy husband doesn't get excited over my credit card bill (better known as my fabric purchases), ha!

Glad you all enjoyed the story I posted. What I posted of the story was the majority of it, but I left out the genealogy/family specific parts. If anyone wants a copy I'd be happy to mail them, just email me. I can do copies for free and I
ve gotten so much help off this board (Thanks, Peg!) that I'd be thrilled to help any one else in any way. I know as I read it I thought "The BB would love this."

Here's another brief little QR story from the same source, but sent in by Marion Lawrence of Stamford VT (remember this is 1953, 46 years ago!)

She's talking about how a gunpowder mill blew up around 1869. Everyone used that to date events in their lives (kinda like "where were you when JFK died")
Anyway, the little tidbit:

As a child my grandmother would let me peek into an old pine chest to look at a quilt she possessed. It was a secret between us, but we called it "The Calamity Quilt." The quilt was pieced of two patterns of calico. The "Calamity" part of the quilt dated back to the time of the powder mill explosion.
Eunice, sixteen or seventeen year-old sister of my grandmother's mother was working somewhere near the mill the day it "blowed up." She came home greatly upset. The lighter colored dainty sprigged calico used in making the quilt was the very dress Eunice wore that day. Eunice died that year. The darker calico, a plainer material, was froma suit worn by her little lame brother, who also died the year of the explosion.
Grandma left the quilt with its story to me. It at least affords a "conversation piece."

So remember ladies, LABEL YOUR QUILTS! These precious stories will lost if we don't tell them to our kids & grandkids and put them on our quilts for all time.

LINDY: You CAN do it! We all know you'll be done in time!

PEG: Thanks again for the pattern!

I work in the fabric department in a store here in Madras (Hatfield's Dept. Store) It is a great place if you are ever going through. I have a great job. I get to drool all over the new fabrics that come in. Last week we had new Thimbleberries Flannels that were just yummy.
I am a baby boomer. DH and I have been married 33 years (BTW he was my first and only). We have 2 DS's, a DDIL, and 2 DGD's. I have only been quilting for 31/2 years.
My job is really fun when I see someone new bitten by the quilt bug. We are just finishing a mystery quilt and so many had the tops completed within 5 days of when the last clue was given out. That is exciting for me. Usually we don't have such a high finish rate. I really hope to see some of you stop in our town as you go to the Sister's Outdoor quilt show. Downtown Madras plans for the business's to display quilts during that week.
For quilt guild this week I am showing (Hopefully) a baby blanket made with cheese cloth. We saw it at IQM and it was to die for. The method is creative chenille.

(You may remember Kitty Kate cursed my e-mail yesterday, so we have a new browser that I'm still learning, etc.)

Anyhow, right below Brenda's post was Mary Ann from Pleasanton, talking about her first time. I mentioned to DH, "can you believe the things we talk about on the BB" and he glanced at Brenda's post talking about old Herman, her 4-foot snake of rather large diameter. DH and I have always referred to his "manhood" as Herman, and he was quick to point out the similarities. Moral of the story (or immoral of the story): be careful what you ask for.

Hello everyone! Hope the weekend is going well for you all. It's hot here in Southern Indiana - I'm wilting...ugh! I did however act like a 6 year old and while mowing the grass I took several time-outs to drown myself with the garden hose. My folks looked amused, but still shook their heads. Do you think they thought I was too old for such nonsense? LOL

Cat Baths - hearing about Nelly's dear Rusty Kitty taking a dive in the birdbath brought back a slightly related memory. I dunno why, but a game of tag between Rocky and Boo Boo used to start in the kitchen and contiuned through the house and ended in the bathtub. Once in the tub these clowns rolled around and played a game of kick-face with each other. This resulted in LOTS of cat fur littering my tub. I solved this problem one afternoon shortly after Christmas and filled the tub with about 3" of water. It wasn't too far into the day before I heard the fateful splash. The finale to tag now concludes in the front room and involves playing kickface under the fish tanks.

Currant Bushes - Today as I was mowing and trimming around all the trees I also mowed around the gooseberry and currant bushes. Out of the corner of my eye I saw the tail of a very long (about 3 foot long) black snake slithering off into the garden. Whew! And not for the reason you are thinking, ha! I happen to like black snakes (my mother thinks I'm nuts, ha! I guess she has never recovered from a childhood incident involving an outhouse and a snake dropping down off a limb just outside the door. Probably would have sent me screaming as a child too!) Anyhow, later in the day the DH found the shedded skin of big Herman up in the rafters of the barn. Old Herman is about 4+ feet long and pretty good size in diameter. With Herman on duty we know the vermon population will be kept in check. Maybe that was Herman Jr. I encountered earlier, ha! Hope this doesn't gross out too many of you gals. The DH and I like spiders too! ooooooh

Later kids - it's almost bedtime. Must get up early to turn my kitchen in to a bakery. My poor spoiled DH is out of wheat bread. Don't ya just feel soooo sorry for the poor guy, ha! THE BIG BABY! Later, from Brenda in Indiana >^..^<

Nancy the sewbird, I'll be on the cruise with Doreen Speckman. If any of you get a chance to hear Doreen, DON'T miss it! She is an absolute riot!

Went out and bought that new Rowenta today. The DH gave me a couple of dept. store gift certs. he had earned from work to put toward the purchase of it. I think I'll keep him awhile longer! I'm still going to get the T-fal fixed, you can't have too many irons.
I like how everyone has nicknames(besides their real names) for their cats.
Mine are Ephriam (means "double blessing") A.K.A. Ephers, Effie, Effietard, and Miss Cat And Leo A.K.A. Leotard (because I use to sell and make Leotards) or Mr. Cat. I don't even have that many nicknames for my kids.

I did it the first time in an open field....which later had a large building built on it...I think of it as a "monument" whenever I drive by it to visit my folks in Connecticut!! I was REALLY lucky and didn't get pregnant...He of course would withdraw in time (he actually did...but we all know that sure isn't foolproof). Have not seen #1 in ummmm....must be nearly 30 years. So, it means a take break til it cools down or put on shoes... and I don't DO shoes unless it is winter- or someone's wedding, so time to take a break. I should probably consider some source of nourishment also... about a third done so no panic attacks yet. I will save those for Monday morning when I realize I didn't get either the address or phone number of the person ordering this quilt! Got to spice up my life in what ever way I can, I guess...

Subject: Sewing Rooms?
E-mail Address: kittykat@internetoutlet.net

I never had a sewing room until My DD#1 got married and moved out. The day I moved my sewing things into her room was Feb. 1,1992. Summer of 95 I had to move it all into the family room. DGS#1 had to have a room of his own by then. Then DGD#1 came along. I didn't give up the family room until summer '97. I couldn't work in there and the kids got into everything. So everything moved into my bedroom. I have been promised (the umpteenth time) that DD#2 will get married on Aug. 7th and move out. "IF" that happens I will take over the family room again. Being a crip makes it too hard to go up and down the steps. I will have the kitchen, laundry room, powder room, living and dining rooms, front door, and phone all on one level. I will be able to keep up the housework and sewing in tandem. Don't I sound like an over achiever? The best laid plans of mice and men? Don't count on keeping your sewing rooms. Boomerang children are an epidemic. Boo Hiss! Give me my house and life back.

Anyway. I got mega yard$ of Jinny Beyer fabric in my favorite colors that begged me to take it home. How could I resist such a plea? It has mauve in it which DH might consider too fem but it also has his alma mater's school colors of maroon and gold. (ASU -- go Sun Devils!) Anyhow, the fabric demands that I do something kaledioscopic with it. Any suggestions? I've signed up for a stack and whack class in August but will experiment with baby quilt fabric (read smaller and CHEAPER project) first.

I have Marti Michell's book "Kaleido-Krazy" and her templates that I've used for a small Halloween quilt and am just finishing (I hope) a Christmas quilt top for DD which I will send to a pro to machine quilt 'cause it's queen size.

This new project will be king size, so it will also be MQ by a pro. One of these years I might actually take up hand quilting. But then again, I might not. I enjoy needlepoint and all that, but I'm a firm believer in the industrial revolution.

It is supposed to be washable but they didn't say how long you had to wash. The kids had a great time. We had them make Father's Day cards. That way all could participate at their own age level. It was a huge success.
Liz, you must be so proud of your son. Congrats to him and all of your family. Yes, your own private sewing space is great. After the dear ones move out you immediately take over their space and make a puter room and a sewing room and a quilting room. That way they can't move back in. They can only visit. It is great. You don't really have to clean those rooms either. You're the only one who uses them and the dust monsters (mine are no longer bunnies) will actually protect you as long as you make friends with the leader. Honest. Got to run tonight is dirt track racing. Have a good weekend everyone, and keep in stitches. Betty from Pa.

E-mail Address: jkjdesko@willex.com

I found the following in a 1953 Vremont historical Society magazine. I'm going to leave out the NQR parts and it's still kind along, but I thought you all might enjoy it.

A Quilt Of Many Memories by Dorothy S Melville

Laura sat sewing in the little vine-covered "summer house" on the edge of the high bank where her particular corner of Vermont in Brattleboro spilled precipately into the Connecticut River. (Talk about a great sewing space!)...
The silk quilt the little lady was piecing for her pretty granddaughter, Ethel, was the third one she had made towards the end of her long life. She had already completed one for her remaining daughter, Edith, and for the oldest granddaughter, Helen. Ethel, for whom her present handwork was destined, was married now and living in Northfield. She would make two more, she promised herself, one for each of Edith's daughters, Gertrude and Laura, her own namesake.
So thought Greatgrandma Laura as her busy fingers paused in their work and she glanced down at the quantity of silk pieces piled neatly in a basket on the bench beside her. They were reminders of people and events long gone and dearly remembered. She touched caressingly pieces of the taupe brocade she had worn on her wedding day in 1840.....
The old lady turned her attention once again to the featherstitching with which she was joining the silk pieces in her hand. That dainty little checked taffeta was one worn by her own little Helen, their middle daughter, who had died in 1850 at the age of four.
She thought lovingly of the cherished pieces of the Colonial gown her oldest daughter, Gertrude, had worn at the Centenary Ball at the Brooks House in Brattleboro in 1876. Her mother remembered well how pretty Gretrude had looked in the blue and white striped Chinese silk as she danced with her tall Navy husband. He had brought the material from China with him and also the bright blue satin that had formed the underskirt and the heart shaped front of the little bodice...
Little Edith was there too, dancing with her fiancee, and wearing the rich plum-colored brocade with underskirt of that delicate aqua taffeta.....
That soft blue silk with the brown figure recalled the ball dress Helen (a granddaughter) had worn at her debut in Washington, when her father was stationed at the Naval Observatory.
There were other mementoes of the "Gay Nineties" .... Edith's daughters were fast becoming young ladies, her thoughts ran on, and it behooved her to hurry with Ethel's quilt.
So Great-grandmother joined the bright scraps of silk together with her memories, even as she joined thier sundry shapes with a variety of intricate stitches.
Many of the pieces of solid color she embroidered with different designs and finally bound the whole quilt with red satin ribbon finished in briarstitch.
Laura died in June 1907, but the quilt she made for my mother, Ethel, is a living reminder of earlier days in our ancestral Connecticut Valley.

Hope it wasn't too much for any body.

I'm so happy to see you back on the chat, FAITH. And what a nice surprise to hear from BILL. You realize, due to you email name, that many of our DH's think BILL is writing us daily as it is. LOL

Sewing spaces - I'm the Queen of small spaces! In FL I have the best arrangement of all, a Murphy Bed system in the guest room. Minus guests the room appears to be nothing but a sewing room. Here at the lake my space is a tiny walkout basement guest room, complete with Queen bed. This will soon be replaced with a single bed with a pull out trundle under it. DH just completed putting together a Home Depot kitchen cupboard base and wall unit for fabric storage and cutting area. And voila! when the room becomes the guest room, this unit become's a baby's changing table.

My new sewing machine has arrived in the cities and not to get it to the lake. Meanwhile I've complete all my promises (Ridgeleys, Lynns in Tx, etc, etc) by hand.

BIG QUESTION for some knowledgeable computer person: I FINALLY got on the IM so what is the next step to get into the chat room?

OK now I've "done my BB thing, read it, posted, etc, etc and I AM going to sign off and get going on a quilt project.

MN Quilt Show next week - all going lets remember to wear our yyy's. I'll be roaming the show and vendors all day Friday and will be watching for you. The other days I have classes and such. Anyone else going on the Paddleford cruise Thursday night?

Katie Mac made me think back to things I had just about forgotten.
I was 17 also and got pregant. (Of course my mother thought it was the
first time and I never burst her bubble.) It was 1969, the Viet Nam
era and I found out about the baby after the father was drafted. He
came home one weekend and we were married, I graduated from high
school and went down to Fort Knox to be with him. His brother & wife
were there too, plus another brother was in Viet Nam. I remeber discussing
if dh went to NCO school he would be here when the baby was born, but his
brother would be back from VietNam and my dh would have to go. The rule
was only one brother in a combat zone at a time. Or he could be assign
an overseas tour of duty that wasn't combat and I would have the baby here
by myself. That's what we chose - he went to Korea and I had our first son.
He got to come home on leave when ds#1 was four months old and home for good
when he was 11 months. When I look back, it's hard to beleive I was making
that kind of decision at 17. When ds#2 was born that was dh first time through.
We celebrated our 30th anniversary last month.

Today when I got home, my dog was not in the house. She's a 9 lb mini hot dog.
I was screaming for her in the yard. Called ds#2 to see if he had her.
sometimes takes her. Dh pulled in and he had taken her with him and didn't
leave a note. He won't do that again, don't think he liked seeing me in a
panic.

Got to go help put sand on the beach of our pond. Dh just stuck his head and
asked "Your're still on the computer?".

DH's... about the time you want to flush them they go and do something so- CUTE! Someone backed over our mailbox last night and bent the snot out of the metal post. DH went out first thing this morning and proceeded to dig it up to replace it. Within moments he was surrounded by neighborhood kids all wanting to "help" him. Tow headed little blonds, boys and girls, and DH stops working, leans on his shovel and talks with them. Lays the shovel down and a three year old tries to dig with it. Steps around him and another little guy tries to lift the damaged post. DH is SO patient, and I think he actually enjoys the little pests! It is very admirable and made me smile with pleasure at his patience. Ya gotta love 'em when they are like that!
COMMISSION QUILT UPDATE- yes, I have a moment to read the boards and chat and still stay on schedule. The top is done and when DH gets back from the hardware store I will take off and go get backing fabric, make the sandwich and start quilting my guts out. That means binding on Sunday and mailing on Monday! I can DO this! :?}

Last year from April to August I had 3 sinus infections, so was praying that I wouldn't get one this year. The good news is that I was able to cut out strips for my latest quilt project. I'll be doing Lopsided Hearts in a class the end of this month. I'm doing a football quilt to hang in the family room, hopefully by the time Sept. gets here. Was going to give it to a local women's charity to raffle off, but Gosh! decided I don't have to give away everything, will keep this for myself.
I agree with those who have a sewing room (I call it laughingly my artist's studio) I never did much, was always frustrated about having to clear the kitchen table, now I have a spare bedroom that is totally mine, when I stop, just shut the door.

Hello there BB ladies. Have been lurking for a we ek or so again. More importantly, cutting 3" square after 3" square. Why I started the Y2K I'm not sure, but I've had 5 squishies in the mail this week and they are great. So I'll carry on cutting and lurk for another week until they are all prepared. Love the pusscat stories. We have Scamper, a 13yr old ginger tom. He is allowed to come and go as he pleases, but chooses to stay at home mostly, food probably. He did try to get away once, hitching a ride on the milkman's lorry!! Best wishes from Stripey Bear in rainy cold Worcestershire, Britain.

Susan, where in MT. are you from? I grew up in a teeny weeny town called Darby. Ever heard of it? One of those don't blink while passing through. Today is going to be one of those "would somebody please stop for two seconds so I can catch my breath? days. Way too much going on. In fact, I really shouldn't be sitting here on my tush since I have all of 15 min. to jump into the shower, get me and my four boys (ages 5 and under) dressed and head to my sons T-ball game. Why oh why do we put ourselves through this? The good thing is soon after his game, we have to take a drive (to see the inlaws yikes!) which will take about two hours up, two hours back so I'll get to work on my quilt. A little darling thing to warm up my walls. It's called "Window to the Seasons". Anyone heard of it? Well, got to bust. I've now wasted five minutes. Guess that means no shower. Ever have one of those days/weeks when you're just so busy and crazy that you feel like you're going off your rocker? That would be my weekend. I have twenty minutes before I have to run to an audition so I thought I would try to chill out and catch up on some BB reading.

Virginity: KatieMac, I look back and shake my head. What was I thinking!?! It really irritates me that if I had just waiting another 6 months I would have met my DH and he could have been the first and it would have been much better.

Is anyone driving from the tri-state area to Ohio 99? Can I hitch a ride with you? I'll buy the gas and the road snacks. anyone? I just bought a plane ticket to go to NC in August and if I buy another one DH might have a heart attack. Then again, he might not...we shall see.

Okay, I have to run...

My vacation to the Outer Banks of N.C. was a success!!! Except for the awfully long drive (15 - 16 HOURS) all was great. On the trip over I took a side trip to Gastonia, to Mary Jo's fabrics and was quite overwhelmed. By far the most fabric I've ever been around. I spent only $70, which I thought was quite reasonable.
Then on to the Outer Banks, quite built up with all these beach houses, but I managed to find some private quiet places. Took my bike and rode every morning, very early, before there was anyone else out there. A couple of hours at the beach each afternoon, even hot enough to swim in the cold Atlantic.
I found the wildlife enchanting. Watched pelicans dive one morning for a couple of hours, but my favorites were the osprey, very busy tending to babies in their highly perched woody nests. My last morning I found a spot on the sound side and watched in amazement as an osprey dipped down right at eye level in front of me, broke a piece off a dead tree and took it back to the nest. This happened twice, and delighted me beyond description. Also went on a jeep tour to see the wild horses, and this was a great investment of time. Saw many horses, and got to a wetland area where the snowy egrets were oh so gorgeous. On the trip home, I stopped for gas and food at Statesville and right there was a Mae's Fabric store, going out of business, 40% off everything. What a find!!!! Bought some Hobbs batting and a few more pieces of fabric. A great trip all in all, although I've been exhausted since returning home.
Now, it's on to looking forward with great anticipation to Ohio 99......Love to you all, Nancy in Ky

Liz in Kansas: Great job by DS!! Give him a hug from me!
For blueberry stains, my DMIL told me what her Mom told her....get a kettle of boiling water and hold the area over the sink. Pour the boiling water on the area. I have done that with my placemats when DH has been flinging his food or scaring his fruit until they squirt in terror. The object is to wash it right through. My placemats are quilted too, and it seems to work fine on all fruit stains. Don't overdo it or you might fade the fabric there....
Melodye: Geee...gosh....shucks....I'll confess that at a few places where I have worked, people started referring to me as "Ma" and I decided that since the Lord didn't give me kids, I must have been destined to be a Mom to adults. BTW, You were right-on with that teacher. Most of the people that I know who are elementary school teachers would never be that negative about a child.... As for "experts" knowing what a child is capable of...My sister told the High School guidance counselor that she wanted to go to Georgia Tech and he laughed at her and suggested that she apply to UConn, a more suitable school for her. Well she was determined and my parents backed her up. She got into Georgia Tech, made the dean's list, and graduated as an electrical engineer.
She never forgot what that guidance counselor said, though. It haunted her all the way through school. Everytime she was having a difficult time in her classes (They sure aren't easy even if you are really smart), she would think..."maybe he was right".

I liked the "dog herding cat" story. Funny how dogs seem to know things like that. SORRY...DOGS RULE!!!!Cats DROOL!!!!

Went to a graduation last night, finally. You see DS failed Pys Ed in HS and didn't get to graduate with his class. Had to go to summer school, then received diploma in the mail. Then went on to school in TN, (We are in NJ) and failed too many test and now has to pay back student loans but no diploma. Now he went to Fire School to be a Vol. Fireman and graduated from Fire School. Finally, a graduation! A BIG DEAL for me to get to go to a graduation. I am proud that he went on his own and completed it. He really studied!!!He is so like my brother, never studied, passsed HS by the skin of his teeth. Then went on to night college to take calculus (sp?) He was never one for math. He has a great engineering job, so he is making good money. I knew DS could do great if it was something he enjoys. There is hope for him yet. He is finally off to a good start, even if it is only volunteer.

Dear Brenda and all of the rest of you kitty hunters out there. I have three kitties; the old lady KC(short for kitty cat), Dusty, and Gizmo. The only one who gets out is the old lady. She got out one morning when we were letting the dog out for her morning romp in our fenced in back yard. We didn't know KC had gotten out. Then the dog wouldn't come in. We tried and tried, but she was just keeping right next to the screened in porch. It finally dawned on us what was going on. The dog, Murphy, was very concerned because she knows none of the cats go out and she was trying to herd KC back to the door. We opened the door and Murphy just herded KC down the outside of the porch and into the doorway. Needless to say, Murphy got an extra biscuit that morning. I am enjoying lurking on this BB. I guess I'll have a LOT to catch up on when I get back.
I also found out that old Singer I got for $1.00 at the yard sale last week is a model #127 and it's b-day is August 26,1913 born in Elizabeth NJ. It is an old treadle model that doesn't work but for a buck it will look nice on my old Singer treadle table....as soon as I move the fish tank off of it! LOL

E-mail Address: jmacdon5@maine.rr.com

I'm with the others that say it is much easier to get things done when you have a sewing space. You can leave things out and then when you only have 5 or 10 minutes here or there, you can just zip into your room and sew a few seams and not spend the time getting everything out! My vote is for you to take over one of the guest rooms. You can always tidy up a bit before someone comes to visit (a good way to find fabric and projects that are MIA!). My oldest doesn't start kindergarden until the fall but I already have little plans for turning the kids bedroom into my "studio" when they move out! It is a lot bigger space than the room I am using now. 8^)

It was suggested to me that Susan in the North Pole and some of the IMers (people who are chatting with each other on Instant Messenger) came up with the idea of the squishie shower for Faith. Whoever it was, thanks for the boost to Faith and Bill's spirits. If you need Faith's address, just drop me a line (I have it memorized now!)

Hello all, I have been doing a lot of lurkng, and private e mailing. It seems I don't have time to breathe lately! Summer on Cape Cod ! I wanted to respond to the person that was asking about photo transfers, amisimms.com,has a wonderful site with lots of pictures of photo quilts, and help in how to do the process. Hanes2u has more technical info about transferring the pictures yourself. To the person who has a hard time finding time to quilt, and doesn't have a "place" for her sewing: I found I get so much more accomplished, because I have a specific room to sew in. I can work for an hour, then just walk out, and go back when I can. The book "dream sewing spaces" has a lot of great ideas for setting up a sewing space, that can also be used as a guest room etc. Also it has a ot of ideas for concealed storage, so the room always looks nice and neat. I have been working on our guilds Challenge for the year, Mary on Cape Cod and I are teasing each other with little tidbits of what we are doing! I just finished my first Christmas gift, a photo quilt for a good friend. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend, it is absolutely beautiful on Cape Cod. After you select the posting, if you right-click the mouse and then choose copy.If you then go into
a word processor like WORD or WORDPAD, then go to EDIT and choose paste. You can do this for all the posting that you wish to print and then when your ready to print, in WORD go file-print and it should print them all on the one page or how many pages it takes to print them.

Hello all! I'm mumbling and grumbling because it is raining AGAIN! Well, I guess I won't be too heart broken if I can't mow grass tomorrow, ha! Yeah, right! (Will just have to call the neighbor to bring over his bailer is all. LOL)

Well, are you wondering about what herding cats means? Three of our four felines were MIA this evening - things like this happen when SOMEONE leaves the front door open (my sweet MIL was the culprit). Will have to make out another honey-do list with big red block letters and staple it to the DH's forehead, ha! "FIX THE STICKY LATCH ON THE FRONT DOOR!" Any how, these beasts had a great adventure for about 30 minutes. I took our trusty Beagle/Dalmatian (Betty Boopers) outside with me and we went a hunting, ha! Betty likes tasks like this - gives her a chance to use the Beagle side of her lineage. Boo Boo (aka BAD KITTY) was herded from under the shrubs and tossed back inside. He's still young and not a very experienced wanderer. One down, two to go. Rocky (aka Fatty Arbuckle - he's a tad round) was investigating the fish pond. Betty corraled him pretty easily, and he didn't seem to care one way or another that he had to return indoors. Two down, one to go. Iggy, the old man was out by the barn. He's a little wiser (more like sneakier) than the young ones, and knows if you're gonna make the great escape you might as well make it worth your efforts, ha! He's goes as far as he can before being tracked down. Took old Betty a little longer to find him.

Ahhh, nothing like wandering around the yard with a flashlight and your trusty hound looking for 3 BAD KITTIES! (LOL) Later kids, Brenda in Indiana >^..^<

I'm so sad, my wonderful T-fal iron has passed on. It was much too young to die, only 18 mos. I could fix it but the part could take anywhere from 3 weeks to 3 mos. to get! I CAN'T WAIT THAT LONG! Not only that, the store I bought it at does't carry them any more :(

Monica in Maine, thanks for the puter info, I needed it, too. I just don't want to spend time going through manuals when I could be quilting!

I finished a small quilt top for the shop I work at. It's the one on the cover of the new book : Through The Garden Gate by Jean and Valori Wells. Hi guys, it's me again. It seems like it's been soo long. It took me hours to catch up from the weekend. Welcome to all newbies. This is the best group around.
ERICA - You've gotten some good advice, the only thing I'll add is to see if you can subscribe to the local paper. Maybe you can get some copies before you leave. That way when you get there, if you know a little about the town you won't feel so lost. Last year I started a new job, after 20 years at the old one, and belive me, I was a wreck. New things are scary but they can also be the best thing you've ever done. Besides, you've made it through grad school how bad can it be?
RONNA - You have got to be one of the wisest people I know. Your advice is always right on. Thanks loads.
KATIE MAC - My first time is something I'd like to forget, but I do have something to add about listening to the "experts". When my youngest was in 5th grade, I was in for the dreaded parent teacher conference. After listening to the teacher tell me for 20 minutes what a rotten and not so smart kid I had, I asked her, "What does she do right?" The teacher looked as if I'd slapped her and and asked me what I meant. I simply told her that my daughter had to do something right, no one does everything wrong. She hemmed and hawed and finally said she gets along well with others and participates well in class. Today we found out that not only has she beem accepted to college a year early, she's also been awarded a full scholarship. Experts don't always know. I'm so happy for both you and your son, enjoy his visit and give him lots of hugs from his cyber "aunties".
I know there's lots more I wanted to add, but I'll probably be back later, I'm going to get ahead start on my husework, so that if I do go the quilt show in Annapolis, I won't feel guilty about not having it done... yeah right :)

Love ya lots,

Melodye in Randallstown

P.S. Can someone send me Faith's snail mail addy, TIA

We are moved into our new how (what an experience that was ) had to get the lot leveled, forms layed out, hauled alllll that gravel, hand dug all that dirt, yuck. My DH is quite a guy, he was fantastic working with all of the people involved.
I even got to retire (3 parties, really partied hardy). The staff in the operating room made me a beautiful quilt. The blocks were all fish and quilt related, cross stitched. My friend, Kathy assembled it. It is vivid blue with white stars in all corners. Very breath taking. I am going to enter it in the Sisters quilt show, next month.
We have really been pleased with our new manufactured home. The service deptment have been incredible. onece the house was too the lot it took only 10 days to have it set up and to the point that we could move in. We ordered it on the 16th of April, they started making it on the 19th finised it the 30th. It was too the lot on May 9th and we moved in May 25th.
Now I am trying to get my sewing room set up--what fun, but didn't realize I had soo many boxes with "sewing room" on them. I am kind of just going in circles trying to make some sense of all the STUFF. I am anxious to get SOMETHING going on the sewing machine.

I have really enjoyed reading the postings to this bb. I think it is funny that a lot of your mothers quilt(ed) and that is how you got started. I am just the opposite. Quilting is the one sewing thing that my mother is NOT perfect at, so I started. This way no one can compare my work to hers. And I have found quilting very satisfying. I also love visiting my favorite shops and the women who work there know me!

Erica--I am at my first job after grad school right now. I didn't have to move, so I didn't have those worries, but it is my first real job ever, so I still wonder if I am just going to screw everything up. Well, I am happy to say that I haven't caused the company to bankrupt or anything like that in the first six months! I guess those 25 or so years of schooling really worked.

BETTY IN PA: (and all other newbies!) Welcome to the BBs! You mentioned writing down some of the things you liked. You can actually print selections out if you like (and if you have a printer!). I have Internet Explorer and what I do is this:
Using my mouse I highlight the posting I want to copy (holding the left mouse button down and dragging the cursor over the posting). Then I go up to "File" at the top of my screen and under "File" I choose "print". When the print window appears, under the Print Range section, I choose "Selection" (if you leave it on "all", it will print pages and pages of the BB!). Then you can go ahead and hit OK. I can only print one posting at a time this way (haven't figured out how to highlight more than one posting at a time) and I think other things like Netscape work differently than Internet Explorer.

Some people have also mentioned being new to computers. You might like to go to this site:
http://www.onelist.com/
At this site, there are gazillions of email lists you can join. Lots of quilting ones to choose from but also lists on just about every topic under the sun. You can even start your own list if you don't find what you are looking for. Sue in Germany who posts here, started a list called QuiltEurope a few months ago and there are already some 200 members subscribed. I just found some support group lists for people with endometriosis that I am checking out. These email lists can be another terrific way to meet fellow quilters from all over the place.

Oh Erica!
Don't worry.......you will meet new people. Did you go to a school near family and home, and maybe even live at home? If not, do you remember the first time you showed up at college? There were people in your classes, there were people hanging out, there were people at campus events, there were people you saw that had the same schedule who you kept seeing at the library or grocery store, etc. Now you are going to a place a bit far away.....from family and friends that you know. But there are a whole bunch of friends that are waiting to meet you at your new home. If it is an apartment, then the people next door or down the hall. If it is a house, then the people on your street. You will find all of the friends waiting for you at work, and at church.....
Even if *they* are not your age...they probably know someone who has a son or daughter who is. Although you might look for people your age, your new friends will have many faces; the little girl who reminds you of yourself when you were little who looks lonely, the older gentleman who has an injury and seems to be having a hard time carrying his groceries to his car, the woman who reminds you of your favorite Aunt or your Grandma who is sitting alone in the park.....all these new friends are looking forward to meeting YOU! Funny how when you look at others and recognize that you can do some little thing that will help them or make them smile, that you forget that you were lonely.......
Mainly, relax and be yourself.......inside you are a beautiful person and no matter what, a real friend will see that and recognize you.
New customs can be fun, as long as you can laugh at yourself. I have traveled to countries where I wasn't sure if I was doing something that would offend....so I would ask people how they went about doing things.... If you want to learn from someone, you will find that they are more than willing to fill you in and tell you how it works there. If you don't insist on doing it "the right way....the way they do it back where you come from" then you find that people enjoy telling you about their local customs and traditions.
And the best advice of all was already posted; Find a quilting store and say "Hi...I'm new in town". You KNOW what busy-bodies we are here on the chat page....do you think that the quilters anywhere would let you be lonely????

If you are coming to an area of the country that some of us on the BB have signed along with our names, then you know that friends are not far behind!

Rachel, Dahling!

Welcome! I remember those bizarre bazaars. I also remember my mother and her mother quilting, and though I've played with other types of sewing since I was four years old, I figured I was immune from quilting. Yeah right. What's the fascination of cutting perfectly good fabric into little pieces then sewing them back together? It must be in the blood. My mother is in her 70's and doesn't sew much any more, and my grandmother passed on a few years ago. I wonder if she "cursed" me with quilt pox (or some other congenital, incurable fabric fetish) from Heaven. Maybe the virus is dormant for years and years (and years) before it finally shows its symptoms.

What a great place this is. You are all such a nice, funny and great bunch of ladies. It's wonderful to come here after a longggg day and be uplifted by your jokes and life stories. Thanks for making us newbies feel welcome and so much like a part of the family. I jotted some stuff down this time so I don't forget stuff. Those senior moments come more frequently now that I'm over 50. Oh well, I'm still breathing and that's a good thing.
Susan, good luck with your yo-yo grapes. I had a yo-yo-addiction a couple of years ago. Yo-yo-ed everywhere. Made several doll quilts and 2 Christmas WHs. They were fun but I got it out of my system I think.
Monica, I just loved your joke. I have to write them down so I can remember them, the girls at work just LOL them too. Keep them coming.
Erica, You'll be fine no matter where you go. You said you have a church, just trust in the Lord to do right by you and He will. Besides, just find the nearest fabric store and you're home free.
Cheryl,I'm not experienced enough to understand the puter stuff, signed up for a class though. Thanks for sharing your virginity story. Many memories.
Lindy, Isn't it unbelievable what non-quilters think we can accomplish overnight. But, then we usually can or bleed thru the fingers trying to. My favorites are the ones who say "I want to make a quilt, I know nothing about them, how much fabric do I need?". My answer if about 4-5 yds. of 4-5 fabrics should do you nicely.
Liz in Ks, Whoever thought up the Special Olympics should get Medals of their own, what a super thing they are. Good luck to your DS. Congrats on the new baby, you can just sit and cuddle with them all day. Best part you get to give them back when they cry or whatever.
Katie Mac, thanks for sharing your DS with us. You must be so proud.
Lindy, as long and someones buying me lunch and helping me shop, I can do it till I drop. Have fun and buy some wild and crazy socks.
Helen, Thanks for the welcome. I do feel right at home here. I thought it was just me doing something wrong, trying to get into something I couldn't. Hopefully, puter class will help me understand this thing and what it can do and learn the lingo.
Just one more note on the feet thing. I have more than my fair share of shoes, God only knows, but what I really like are socks, the wilder the better. I have all the holiday's and some really wild argyles. Anybody else out there like socks?
One more thing. On the swap lists, they ask for siggy's??? I assume they are signature blocks. What do they contain besides my siggy and what size are they. Also, what are squishes? Thanks for listening. Stay in stitches, Betty from Pa.

Growing up, I spent many hours watching my mother
and her "group" quilt. I can remember thinking
that all of these old women were nuts. Now I'm
"older" and guess what? Here I go, it's my turn.
Now my children are sitting next to me wondering
what the heck and why I'd bother spending all this
time quilting.
Not only am I new at the "chat" thing (yes, first
time), I'm also new at quilting. I've done endless
hours of cross stitch and such but have just started
the wonderful art of quilting. Gee, I wonder where
they came up with the name "crazy" quilt.

Anyone remember the days of bizarres? I can
remember going with my mother and watching all the
women in the town selling all of their "good stuff"
that they'd made. My mother's specialty was
homemade bread and cinnamon rolls. I loved waiting
for the bread to come out of the oven and she'd
cut off the end piece for me and smear it with butter
and honey. Yum!! Memories

Whut?? Huh??? Ronna, what't this about some cake and Kitty Kate and 105 candles? Ha! My birth certificate says I'm 39. My body has days where it feels about 20 and other days where it's about 65 depending on the level of abuse I do to myself. If in a good mood I'm as giddy as a school girl. Catch me when I'm in a bad mood and you'd better have a helmet handy, ha! The DH refers to this phenomenon as the bad twin abducting the good one (LOL). Which makes me think of one time when I was twisted pretty tight and ranting about something or another, and after about 15 minutes of listening to me go on and on the DH (with a very straight face and using his low British tone) says, "Times up!" This stopped me in my tracks of rambling and we both started laughing so hard we were crying. Needless to say he uses that phrase whenever I get on a roll of fretting and stewing (LOL).

Our priest told us that joke a few months ago and he told us that there is the name of the manufacturer or something like that printed on the inside of his collar. This is the one he told us last Sunday:
A kindergarden teacher was receiving end-of-the-school year gifts from her students. The daughter of the local florist handed her a box. The teacher held it up, shook it and said, "could it be flowers?" The student said, "yes, how did you know?" The teacher said, "Lucky guess!" The son of the local sweetshop owner handed her a box. She held it up, shook it and said, "could it be chocolates?" The student said, "yes, how did you know?" The teacher just replied, "Lucky guess!" The son of the local liquor store handed her a box. She noticed it was leaking in a corner. She put her finger to it, tasted it and said, "could it be a bottle of wine?", she said. "No" said the student excitedly. The teacher tasted from the leak again. "Could it be champagne?" she guessed. "No, no!" said the student. "Well, then, what is it?" asked the teacher. "A puppy!" said the boy with delight.

Father got a good laugh out of the congregation with that one. Keep in mind that I am a terrible joke teller but think I got it mostly right.

Subject: Hey..first post by a quilter
E-mail Address: eacorbe@ilstu.edu

Hello, just found this BB. I'm a fairly long-term
(1/3 of my life) quilter (I'm 30, BTW). I have
a whole stack of Spools blocks ready to put together when I get up the energy...

I considered posting this on the "prayer request"
BB, but considering that most of the other
posts are from people who lost children, have
spouses out of work, or parents with cancer,
I am afraid my concern seems kind of minor...

I'm going to be moving far away from everyone I know and from every *place* I know the end of this summer. I'm happy, in one way - I'm finally done with grad school and I have a good job - but I'm also worried. I'm moving to a small town/city
(it's about 12,000, not sure what to call it) and
everyone I met down there when I went to check the place out praised what a great "family" city it was (they were all married with kids). I'm afraid that as a single woman of 30, I will either be lonely or may even be actively shunned as "strange" (because I'm not married). Also, I don't like the idea of being a minimum of a day's drive from my nearest friend, and a 2-days drive from family.

I don't quite know what to do. The idea of
putting all my belongings (including a huge
fabric stash compiled over several years) into a truck and *trusting* that that truck will arrive, undamaged, at my new home, is a lot to deal with on top of leaving everyone I know, going to a strange new place with different customs (did I mention it's in a different part of the country?) and starting a new job where I'm worried
about screwing up and not doing a good job?

How do/did you cope? I will be joining a church, but if it's like the one I belong to now, there are almost no people in my age range - either teens or much older people. Why don't people in their late 20's/30's go to church? I'm so afraid I won't have any friends after I move!

Erica

Happy Lunch Hour. TGIF!!!!!!

A few of you have asked about my computer back-up. I was lucky enough to have had all these problems at work. In a company of over 3000 employees they have to have excellent Desktop support. I'm not sure of everything they did, but I do know how my email was recovered. I use Outlook for mail. However, I also have Netscape (internet explorer would probably work for this too). Most web browsers have mail functions too. So, if your Outlook (or Eudora or other mail program crashes) I suppose it is a possibility to check the web browser to see if there is any mail hiding there. Another suggestion would be to save your address book and any special messages on a disc. I know Outlook has a "save as' function. Hope that helps somewhat.

Now, about that virginity thing. I am one of the young ones (only 24 two weeks ago) here, so I'm not sure if I should be telling my story, it might scare those of you with daughters my age!! Actually, I won't go into the details, it's not something I'm proud of. I'm not ashamed or anything, but it was not done under the best of circumstances. Let's just say that at the beginning of my second year of university I started to party. I was a nondrinker before that. Needless to say I couldn't hold my alcohol, and things ended up hapening. But I figure it was bound to happen, one way or another. I am still happy knowing that everything worked out, everyone was protected, and in the end I just laugh at the whole thing now. My first with my man now was great, that means more to me than anything that ever happened before. I guess when you finally fall in love it is like the first time, the first good time!!

Okay, enough about that. However, Pandora's box has been opened and I am itching to ask some more questions of the many sages out there. Keep an eye out!

Have a great weekend everyone!
Cheryl

PS. About the fluid build-up in ears. Have you ever tried ear candling? If a trained person does it it is supposed to be phenomenal for clearing things up.

I ordered something from Hancock's on-line yesterday and was a little unsure about something. They said the information I was sending is secure, but I didn't get the usual warning window from my computer saying I was about to go into a secure area. Do they really have secure ordering? I wonder how I can find out? Just seemed a little odd.
By the way the fabric that I bought yesterday is the Summer Cottage collection by Moda - so pretty, I got it in the greens.

Who's wonderful idea was it to send squishies to Faith? I just got a note from her and she sounds quite rejuvenated by the squishies she has received (I think from the IMers!)- this has really boosted her spirits - what a terrific group of people you are!

Gorgeous day here and I am off to put the last couple rows and borders on the raffle top for Marilyn.

Kinda lonely, but am adjusting....The family is in Wichita today. My DS is
attending the Special Olympics festivities. He's racing in the cycling this afternoon
at Levitts parking lot. The DH and DD went down for the day to watch, but I have to
babysit. She's snoozing in the swing (great inventions I tell ya!) so I'm taking some
time to catch up on everything!
My Sister had her bambino yesterday. Guess I'd better get that quilt going! I've got the
pinwheels ironed, and the bias for the sticks ironed, and I'm supposed to be upstairs starching
them before I machine sew them to the cloud background. I hope this works! I'm going to try to
get at least that part done this afternoon. Katie is supposed to leave at 2:30.
Well, if you see the paper they put out...look for Keiter! He races at 1:30, and I know
my heart will be there! He comes back tomorrow. He was SO excited he could hardly stand himself.
And, we could hardly stand him either! He tends to perseverate just a tad.
TerTer....I'm up to game 53 now. I have to type in the consecutive # everytime! What a nuisance! I'll
never catch up with you! I had to play one F.C. game 5 times before I finally got it out. I never
give up!
Oops!!! Katie just started whaling away!!!! She only slept for about 45 minutes. Not nearly long
enough for me!

Sandy Toes is alive and well in Seattle. I've been running my petals off, however, so most of my BB time (when I get it) is of the lurking variety. You all manage to keep me in stitches! I've especially liked the "big foot" stories.

At quilt group today, one of the members asked me if I wasn't worried when I went to Ocean Shores to meet Betty, Deanna, Maureen, Kittykate and Julie. "How do you know they won't be....well....dangerous?" And ladies, believe me--they are! Dangerous with the food stuff, the funny stories, and the quilting! We should all be so lucky to meet up with as many Yoyos as we can.

Small Wednesday group is gearing up for a mystery week-end in three weeks. I've just about got the sample done, then to write up the directions. This is a snappy little number adapted for our purposes--that being something that most people can complete in 1 1/2 days.

Welcome to all the newcomers! It's good to see you all feel so much at home with these crazy quilters. LOL.

I got a call yesterday, June 2, from a lady wanting to commission a quilt for a wedding present. She said she needed to have it in her town (allow 2-3 days for mail delivery) by the 9th of June. We talked until she understood the price and got it settled that I was physically capable of getting a log cabin, full size, extra long, done by Sunday, mailed Monday, and hopefully it would get there... when she said, (quilters should be sitting down and not drinking anything while near the computer screen for this next part!) She said, "Will you hand or machine quilt it?" I kept a calm voice and said, "Machine, I think..." but when I hung up I came unglued LOL! 4 days to make a quilt and I might hand quilt it? Me thinks she doesn't have a clue about the amount of work involved in quilts, even though she said she didn't mind the price as she realized there is a lot of work in a quilt. No duh! LOL! :?} Just had to tell a quilter... thanks for being there. Now back to the stitching, burning the midnight oil for a few days! Lindy the Yakima Yakker and NO, I haven't found a real job yet. AND I am selling all my leftovers from my business so if you want to know what there is left and how much, email me for a list. Welcome to all the new posters, - I tried to remmember everyone's name and did not write them down(my memory is not as good as I thought it was)!! Anyway, glad you decided to join in our fun here.!!

Brenda: Happy Birthday dear friend- good job I checked in- have just E-mailed you a card- the check will follow later- MUCH later- LOL!!!

Doni: Welcome back- sounds like you had a great time at the lake- tell Chris Auntie C is proud of him landing that great big fish- How's my pal Buford these days?- miss not hearing about him.
Loved the labelling hint- great idea, and I am so pleased that your Gran got her quilt back- how despicable for a care-giver to steal from her patient.

Years ago when the kids were in the early grades, I used to label their school clothes in the neck part, and then on expensive things like snow suits and jackets and spare ski pants, I wrote their names in the lining of one sleeve or leg. Finally twigged on to doing that after losing so many costly items, like snowsuits that were identical to another student's- it always seemed that my kids got the worst one of the two!!

Reg in KS: Loved your post, it sounds something like us here. Just this past weekend I bathed our two 80lbs dogs and one 60lbs "slippery eel" dog whilst Ivon sat and watched a movie with his earphones on (I can't stand the supersonic sound he thinks he always has to play with these Sci Fi movies he likes). After the movie was over, he calmly takes off the ear phones and said"Let me know when you want to bath the dogs- I will give you a hand" Amazes me how he failed to know- it is not like we live in a multi level castle or anything!!!!- LOL.... and how can you not see (or smell) 200+lbs of wet dogs?!!! He must have selective sight, to go along with his selective hearing- LOL!!

Finished my block for Lynn in TX tonight and now just have to finish my Columbine ones. Then I am going to try and start something for myself.

So pleased to see your post Faith- special hugs to you and Bill, we are all pulling for you both.

Hugs to all

Well my 9 year old DGD is impressed.
Shoes were a sore subject (blisters on toes) for many years. I wear an 11 l/2 Narrow
--in high school it was only 10 1/2 but in the 40s I might as well have been asking
for glass slippers whenever I wanted anything to wear for dress. Open toed shoes with
platform soles and 4" heels filled the bill and even then the size 10's had to be ordered
and paid for before they ever touched the foot. The old standby was Buster Brown, girl
scout shoes, brown lace up oxfords. I can honestly say that I was 33 years old before
I ever walked into a store and was shown more than one pair of shoes that actually fit me
--Seattle and Nordstrom (a one town family store then) have kept my feet from being more
misshapen than they are.
I am 5'7" and have worn larger than a size 9 since I was 12. My uncle's favorite comment
about me was "she'd have been a tall woman if they hadn't turned so much down for feet" and
something about my being referred to in the church hymnal "How Firm a Foundation." I loved
him anyway because he bought the best presents of anyone in the family.

Welcome to all the newbies. As you have found out already this is a wonderful family to belong to. It's nice to be able to choose our relatives, huh?

Ronna: You really made me "homesick" reading about your sailboat and sailing. What is her name? We had a 25' (can't rmember the make) named BABY. I too had to deal with seasickness but found out that the stretchy wristbands with a button in them worked GREAT if I put them on before we sailed. They also work wonders for air travel. They have instructions on exactly how and where to wear them. I bought mine at a pharmacy.

Feet?????? Mine depend on whether I've been on them all day or how much I weigh. Needless to say they aren't small at any time. 9 1/2 - 10 except if I weigh 40 lbs. less then they are size 8 medium width. I pretty much stick with slipons at home and Nikes for walking and shopping. Like you, Brenda I have more than enough dressy shoes from working to last for my lifetime. Don't wear flipflops much anymore but I did buy a cute bright yellow pair at WalMart last week. Sure feel strange. My shoe colors are usually dull red, black, white, ecru. Hmmmmmmm, I don't have any blue or brown! Shoes aren't my big thing. Red Riding Hood capes are. LOL I guess I do have weird feet because I'm the only person I know who isn't comfrtable in Birks. Tried them and they weren't comfortable although I expected them to be.

Loon and Marge in MI, Been there done that with paint in the hair but mine was bright blue. Used to color my hair with L'Oreal but that was deliberate.

Hey you all have me naming my machines. My cars have always been Betsy (or Bessy if she was older) so my two Vikings are Betty and Beth. Sheesh, the people I hang around with.

Anita, give Brendan a hug for me. I love new babies and have none in my life at the moment. Will have sometime this month, a new great-grandson.

Cheryl, me too about the different backup program?

Susan in Mt.. How lucky for you.

Yes, folks. It is me in the middle of the day!!! No I'm not a vampire who sleeeps in the daytime. LOL
I got in the habit of going online in the middle of the night when Joe was so sick.

Check out computingcentral.msn.com/topics/downloads. I just downloaded the neatest screensaver. It’s a kaleidoscope program. It’s shareware but you get to try before you buy.

Hello all! Thank you to those who have sent me cards and squishys - this is too much fun! Going to the mailbox is a treat, ha!

I turned 39 today and according to one of my mean old sister-in-laws this is the last year I can use the term, "thirty something". (LOL - like I ever used it to begin with). I have pretty much never gotten overly excited over birthdays once the big 3 0 slid by, ha! Age 15 was exciting = driver's education. Age 16 = one could drive, and better yet, one could DRIVE THEMSELVES TO WORK, ha! Nothing more embarrassing for a teenager than to be driven to work by MOM! Ha! Age 18 = you could vote and have some minute say in the ways of the whacky government. Age 21 = one could go into an alcohol serving establishment LEGALLY (oops...did I say that! Wasn't me - was my evil twin). Age 25 = one's auto insurance went down = a sport's car was now a possibility. That 5 year stint between 25 and 30 was uneventful for me. I had a couple of friends that almost had to be institutionalized as their 30th grew near. I guess for them, reaching 30 was one step away from death. I just dunno...

Well, enough of this dribble - thanks again for the birthday well wishes. For the record I am actually looking forward to the big 4 0. It will be a milestone for I did manage to survive some of the DUMB choices made in one's youth, ha! I may be grayer, but am much smarter! Brenda in Indiana >^..^<

Good evening, everyone and welcome all newbies..and welcome back some oldies!!I have been too busy lately to do anything but lurk. My mind is so full of things to do, I can't concentrate on writing. I have been working on a quilt challenge for Crazy Quilters guild that is due in Nov. Barb is doing one also , so we are both trying to guess what the other is doing. Kellie: Looks like you will have to do some shopping on the internet for you fabrics. Too bad you had to loose JoAnne's. Doni: what a smart move that was for you to hide the name in the binding..I will have to remember that for future quilts, especially if they have to hang at a quilt show or be out of my sight. Had lunch yesterday with my two oldest DDs. One was relating to me how her new water pond was going. It seems they got some minnows, goldfish, and some frogs. One of the frogs decided he was going to have goldfish for his lunch, got caught with the evidence in his mouth, needless to say he no longer resides in that pond. Then her DS found a garter snake in the basement and proceded to throw it in the pond, and one rather large bullfrog decided he wanted snake for dinner...but snake was too fast and got away to live another day!! Have a good week-end everyone. Mary on Cape Cod

FEET - I my feet ain't happy, I ain't happy. I go for comfort not style. Guess that shows my age. After my first child my shoe size went up a half size. After the 2nd they went up another half size. Had to quit having kids, I was afraid I would have those clown feet. Sometimes thought I should just wear the boxes.
SINUS - As a child I was allergic to everything. Lived on a farm and my mother thought I was going to die. There were few foods I could eat. Had to have shots twice a day. Doc said give her everything, she'll either get used to it or die. As I approached puberty the allergies faded away. With menopause (at 34 yo)they came back. My eyes are the most affected. Right now I can hardly keep them open. They burn horribly. I, also, have dry eyes (from old age). Fabric stores get to me after a while. I wash all my fabric when I get it home. I don't even use soap. I just run it through the gentle cycle and then dry it on low. No soaps and no softeners. It rinses out the chemicals and finishes and preshrinks. I don't like surprises after I've invested megahours on a quilt.
I want to get rid of the carpeting and most of the curtains. Dust and airborn mold, grasses, trees, flowers, etc. bug me. On retreat at the Ocean, I had less problems. Maybe I should live on the beach. I am taking up a collection for buying a retirement home on the beach. Anyone want to contribute? Tee Hee! Bill Gates, please give me your spare change, 100's, 50's, and 20's.
Take care and may God bless you and yours!

Hi! I'm new to computers and to this forum. Not new to quilting have been at it for 19 years, and I have the UFO's to prove it! I'm so new to computers that I thought the story of Rotary cutter and Mom going to bed was so cute I just had to print it out! 20 Pages later LOL. I figured out some of the abbreviations. As my 3+ DGD says "Just pint and click Gramom" So I am! I just love all of your stories and have some responses.... I Have big feet size 10W. I am 5'10" tall so they have to hold me up and they do quite nicely thank you. To respond to Kellie about JoAnn's closing they have a really great site www.joann.com and can help you find a store near you. Brenda have a happy B-Day. Do something just for you. I just love the idea about the hidden signatures, have never heard about it. Have a friend who had a quilt stolen and never recovered it, wish we had known about the hidden sig. then. Used to have a houseboat before divorce so I can relate to sailing weekend. Love the water, on it not necessarily in it. Art quilts are great. You don't necessarily have to agree with what they look like but you do have to admire the fact that there are those out there who are willing to push the envelope and see what else fabric can do. I have seen some pretty wonderful art quilts and some really, really, realllllly bad ones, but I do admire the fact that I'm seeing them and expanding my horizons, plus if I'm seeing them they are finished. On Stack & Whack our bee just had a demo on them, they are really neat, but they really do take some time to set up the fabric initially, really precise measuring and pinning but they are awesome. I don't have a DH anymore but I do have a DSignificanother, 2DD's 1DS, 4DGS's and 2DGD's. I love to quilt and I now love this computer thing and if I don't go now I won't sew. I do the same, write my name, my BD, and my car number plate on the seam allowance under the binding. I hope I will never need it. But a friend made her first crookedly patched mini quilt for her DD's doll, and they lost it, and never found it. No label on it, no information whose quilt it was. Now she labels faithfully :)

Hi Everyone; Just an update on the Snoopy Dancers website....Andy had to go to DC for a class and won't be able to update the page until this weekend....I can't believe it's been over a month since it was last updated!!! I'd like to apologize to anyone that's sent in pictures that have been waiting to see them posted. Hopefully it won't take this long to post pictures in the future. I'd also like to take this time to thank all of you wonderful people that have sent gifts and fabric. This has been greatly appreciated, and as soon as I get a few minutes, I'll personally e-mail each of you.

I've been so busy lately that I haven't even had time to quilt....or maybe, I have so many UFO's that I don't know which one to work on when I do have time! Went to purchase fabric for binding for a baby quilt that I've been working on, and when I got to JoAnn's the building was deserted....they had closed it down!!!! I was just there two weeks ago....what do you think happened?? This is very depressing, because the only other stores in the area that sell fabric are Wal-Mart and a store that smells so badly of cigrette smoke, that I can't stand to be in there for more than 5minutes!!! Well, there is one quilt shop that I really like, but it's over 40 miles away!!!

Also wanted to mention that I have had really, really bad allergies for the last couple of years. I've probably taken almost every over-the-counter and prescription allergy medicine there is...Well, yesterday I went to an Allergy specialist who gave me a new product on the market...it's called "nasonex" and it's a nasal spray that you only have to use once a day. My nose and sinuses haven't been this clear in years!!! Dr. says it works better than pills, because it goes straight to the source of the problem. I highly recommend this to anyone with allergies, ask your Dr. about this.

Well, my lunch hour is over, back to work! Have a great day!! Kellie in VA (Where it's been over 90 degrees all week)

Oh, Doni, that is great! I am glad to hear that putting your name under the binding really worked! I did suggest that on the BB a bit ago. I can't take credit for the idea, though - I overheard two women talking at a quilt show while we were standing in line and one of them was saying she had had a quilt of hers stolen, found it, but then couldn't prove it was hers so now she always does the name under the binding thing.

Happy Birthday, Brenda!

Subject: Rotary Cutter & Mom going to bed

Valerie in OH I also had this happen & asked at the quilt shop that I go to most of the time; the owner also had this happen. Find a package of new fiskars & there is a phone # or address of the company. She sent her's in and got a replacement because they have a life time warranty. I never did send mine in, just bought a new one and use the old one at our weekend home where I don't do a lot of cutting, just sewing. And I don't have little ones around to worry about.

Just have to share this with everyone. I think someone has been spying on me!
Mom and Dad were watching TV when Mom said, "I'm tired, and it's getting late. I think I'll go to bed."

She went to the kitchen to make sandwiches for the next day's lunches, rinsed out the popcorn bowls, took meat out of the freezer for supper > the following evening, checked the cereal box levels, filled the sugar
container, put spoons and bowls on the table and started the coffee pot for
brewing the next morning. She then put some wet clothes into the dryer, put a load of clothes into the wash, ironed a shirt and secured a loose > >button.
She picked up the newspapers strewn on the floor, picked up the game pieces
left on the table and put the telephone book back into the drawer. She watered the plants, emptied a wastebasket and hung up a towel to dry. > >She
yawned and stretched and headed for the bedroom. She stopped by the desk and
wrote a note to the teacher, counted out some cash for the field trip, and
pulled a textbook out from hiding under the chair. She signed a birthday
card for a friend, addressed and stamped the envelope and wrote a quick note
for the grocery store. She put both near her purse. Mom then creamed her
face, put on moisturizer, brushed and flossed her teeth and trimmed her nails.

Hubby called, "I thought you were going to bed." "I'm on my way," she said.
She put some water into the dog's dish and put the cat outside, then made
sure the doors were locked. She looked in on each of the kids and turned out
a bedside lamp, hung up a shirt, threw some dirty socks in the hamper, and
had a brief conversation with the one up still doing homework. In her own
room, she set the alarm, laid out clothing for the next day, straightened up
the shoe rack. She added three things to her list of things to do for tomorrow.

About that time, the hubby turned off the TV and announced to no one in particular "I'm going to bed," and he did.

HELP! I do a lot of lurking and very rarly post. The latch that releases the blade of my rotary cutter broke! Does anyone know how to contact Fiskars? It is only 2 years old!(The rotary cutter) I was rather surpized when I thought I had closed the blade and my son,4, showed me a little piece of plastic that he found with my quilt stuff on the table.(It took me a few minutes to figure out were it came from.)

BRENDA in IN.: HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!
DONI: I'm so glad that you got granny's quilt back. What a great idea to put the signature under the binding. I can't believe that someone would be as lowly as to take her quilt in the first place. Gosh! Just those few things people have in N.H's to make them feel a bit more at home....and someone would take even that from them. Then to carry it around in her car...we have a word for that, "chutzpa". (Usually defined by the following story: Man kills his parents and then throws himself on the mercy of the court because he is an orphan. That's chutzpa.)
Susan In North Pole: loved your story about being camp cook. Yikes! That many hungry guys....glad that your boss was willing to boot the butts of those who were just too picky.
SARA with Sinussssssss: You poor thing! I know well that "punched in the face feeling" when your sinuses are stuffed. Hope you can take some pseudophed or something to help relieve the pressure. Don't you hate it when you feel like your eyeball is going to fall out?! I found out when they x-rayed my head one time that I don't have a frontal sinus (the one in your forhead). Must be because our family always had sinus problems and when you get an infection in the frontal sinus, the docs get really worried and send you off to the hospital. Well, without a frontal sinus, I don't have quite as dangerous a situation....I must be highly evolved!!!(LOL)

Shoes.......geeez, do I have to wear them????? (whine) Why do they always make the shoes that are comfortable look like combat boots? And why do I alway feel compelled to get "nice shoes" that go with an outfit even though I know that if I spend any time in them they will hurt my feet?(end whine)
I don't have a shoe fettish, but you know, ya have to have the ones for "business", ya have to have the ones for "dress-up", ya have to have the ones for actual walking and function....yada yada yada. By the time you are finished, you have filled the bottom of your closet (or one of those shoe organizers) and are going for the Imelda Marcos award. (My DH who has maybe four pairs of shoes was calling me "Imelda" when I decided to get one of those closet organizers for shoes). And I only get the basic, blue, black, brown and white in hopes that they will go with everything.

Well, gotta go........glad people liked the sailing story!

i have allergies too and found the only solution for me is to wash all fabrics before putting them in my sewing room. they go directly into the sink or washer. i've found that staying too long in a fabric store will start the problem too. it's all the chemicals in the dyes and finishing of the fabrics. the only things i don't wash are a few specialty items. washing everything helps. even a rinse only in warm/hot water helps a lot for me.

saw cassi's posting about the costumes, etc. i do a lot of sewing for our dance studio (it pays for MY dance lessons!) and rely quite heavily on my glue gun. i have one considered to be a "low temp"......it's cut down quite a bit on the burnt fingers, but the glue tends to dry REALLY fast, so you can only lay down a few inches of sequins or whatever at a time. Our recital is already over (it's always the w/e after mother's day)......we always have our costumes by the end of march so we can get pictures down before the recital. A few months ago we were all talking about hidden signitures on quilts that was givin to grandparents and parents in nursing homes..as a way to identify them if the where ever stolen. Someone..I really think it was Monica in Maine suggested hidding your name under the binding...I gave Marks granny a little lap quilt for Christmas last year..just a little sampler quilt, made of the cutest little novelty prints..a few months ago it dissappeared..no one knew what " Granny had done with it " Well it was found by another Aide in the back seat of another Aides car...seems the 2 left for lunch and the one drove..the other aide noticed granny's quilt in the back seat and told the RN on duty that the girl had granny's quilt! Well granny lives about 45 miles from us, so Marks mom called and ask if I could somehow identify the quilt...fabric scraps or something, of course the label had been removed... I just smiled to myself and told her to carfully take the binding lose..and in the lower left hand corner she would find my name and social security number! Thank you so much for the little tip, that allowed granny to keep her little quilt!! I'm sure this aide is the same one that has been "lifting" granny's pieced top thru the years..but no more! Shes out the door!! Glory day!!
Hugs to everyone today! This has given me such a wonderful feeling! I am so happy!!

Enjoyed the sailing expedition thoroughly .Almost seemed as if I were there. A very nice way to share a wonderful trip, especially to those of us who can only see ocean's on the map
Am reading about the shoes and feet situation with interest. Try not to think about my feet to much as they are always in pain. Arthirtis (?) is really bad and no amount of any thing I take seems to help.
Oh yes, the real reason for posting this morning.
Happy Birthday to Brenda in IN. May you have a wonderful day
Now when I sign off I will remember all the things I wanted to post about , so just imaging that I did that. Have fun all, because imagination is a terrific thing, and mine works overtime generally

SUSAN IN MT: If you think your being here with SUSAN IN FRESNO is one SUSAN too many, keep in mind that one third, yes one third of the nine Serial Quilters are named SUSAN! Yes, we have BACKYARD SUSAN, PHILLIP'S SUSAN and JUST ME SUE.

Now for Ohio 99, we're adding to that mix SUSAN IN MT, SUSAN IN FRESNO and who knows who else has a middle name of Susan! I never realized what a popular name this was a few decades ago! The most popular name in my high school class was Nancy - we had 6 out of 52 girls. Only two Susans though. The best in our small class was having Sandy Smith, Sandy Smythe and Cindy Smith!

Have about 13 costumes to alter by recital next week - shouldn't take long as it's just a matter of taking up the shoulder seams. This is the last of the costumes to be fixed for this year (I'm pretty sure)! Then it's time to get organized for being in charge of costumes for the studio next year! Yes, you heard that right, I'm going to be in charge of the whole costume thing for the studio. One of the things I hope to accomplish is alterations sooner than one week before recital! LOL

I seem to have impressed everyone with my abilities to use velcro, safety pins and a hot glue gun. These are the talents you most need when it comes to costumes. The fact that my sewing machine will handle sequins is an added plus. I am going to spend the first part of the summer coming up with a game plan on how to handle all the costumes - the competition teams are the main focus, as they have lots of different costumes and have to have them ready by spring. The regular classes usually only have one costume and just need it for recital in June.

Since I have to make use of a hot glue gun, can anyone out there tell me if they make one now that is A) cooler, and B) has some type of cutoff for the flow of the glue? My old one gets incredibly hot and since there's no cutoff for the flow of the glue, we get strings of hot glue going everywhere. What's new on the market?

Well, gotta get moving. DS wants to go to school early for a special study class for U.S. government test....I haven't broken the news to him that grades are already in since report cards are coming home on Monday! He has tests every day this week and doesn't realize they aren't part of his grade. But Monday they get to do "sixth grade" work, he reported! That's their last day....it should have been today but we had to add two make-up days because of snow days.

Goodmorning all, I gave up trying to sleep, was attacked by either dust, some type of finish on my fabric, or just plain ol' sinus problems. On Tues. I decided to get a head start on the "Lopsided Hearts" quilt 2 GFs and I are making in a class at the end of June. After raiding the one GF's stash, went to favorite QS and bought $30.00 of FQ, spend the day doing color fastness test, and washed some teal colors as they bled terribly. Also decided to start my DD's baby gift, a diaper bag. The only fabric in the lot of about 15 yds. and 20 or so FQ's that I didn't wash was the 2 -1/2 yd. pieces for the diaper bag and the leftover batting for it. Started pounding headach, nose running, ect. It must have been the "other" fabric or batting, been moaning ever since. Has anyone else had such an alergic reaction to fabric, or dust? I knew I had allergies, but have been SOOO careful all year, took my RX drugs, and everything. SInce DH is out of town wanted to spend day quilting, but don't want nose to run on fabric, uch!
Thanks for letting me vent, feel better already,

I was until tonight behind reading the Chat. Thankfully answering e-mails for shower for Faith and Bill.. Thanks so much everyone.

I had a good laugh over the Kitchen funny's. I have one for you. Way back when, I was a camp cook for 25 men in a Gold camp. Had a very nice, understanding boss, but some of the workers were, well, lets just say, Arrogant and demanding. ( I had my choice names for most) anyway, We had more or less a short order breakfast, each worker made and packed their own lunches, supper was my choice. One main entree, fixins for salad. always had home made bread and a couple deserts. Now, you have to get the full picture of this, we did not have a dish washer, that was also my job. I started each day at 4am and hit the bed about 10pm. Like I said, there was the few, that no matter what you cooked you couldn't please them. Even if I have to say so myself, I am a decent cook and use to like to cook. I really don't like to bake, because I never liked sweets, boy has that changed, hehehe One morning I walked in to the cook shack and here the boss had hung a sign, This is Not Burger King, This is Sue's Kitchen, you get it her way or you don't get the SOB, signed by the boss. Oh yeah, there was still one who had to grumble. After about 2 weeks, boss kicked him out , told him he could eat at the road house which only served Ham and Cheese $3.50 and Chesse and Ham $3.00. After about a week of that, he quit. He was hungrey. Poor guy, did I feel sorry for him, not a chance. The story of the Ham and Cheese and C&H is, What is the difference??? 50cents

I crossed Stitched this for a good humored friend who is a maticulas house keeper. Lover her dearly, but I have better things to do. heheh "Immaculiate House Keeper make Dull Friends" she laughed.

Well enough for now.

Thanks again for the Shower for Faith and Bill.

I'm back from our very long trip to NC! DH and I were getting kind of sick of the city so we rented a car for a week and took off last Thursday to visit my mom and our friends who still live in NC. We had a great time and the best part was when mom took me shopping in Carrboro at Thimble Pleasures. I spent a large sum of money (well, large for me!)on the most beautiful fabrics. We had so much fun. Mom even had a cook-out on Memorial Day and invited our friends over. It was such a great trip until this morning....Everyone hear about the truck that flipped over/spilled on I95 south of Washington D.C.? Full of gunpowder or TNT? I have no clue, we couldn't get an accurate report on the radio, but anyway, it closed the highway and we spent two and half hours trying to get around it. So we got home a lot later than planned.

I obviously have a lot of catching up to do on the BB--y'all are talking about feet now and I'm totally confused....

Hi everyone. Just had to send a post on shoes. I love them. I wear a 4 1/2 to 5 depending on style and make. Mostly I wear sneakers and usually buy kids sneaks. They're cheaper and fit me better. In the 70's I wore 5 inch platform sneakers with my hip hugger bell bottoms.

Just got back from DS & DD's summer concert at school. DS is gaining on graduation requirements. Still not willing to hold my breath. But he did pick up his cap and gown.

DH and I taking off for four days in Lancaster on Friday. Quilt shops here I come! Taking two other couples with us. One of the other ladies is a new quilter. She has fabric fever already.

Living in Vermont I'm too far from the sea and have to go there for a sniff of salt air and the sound of the waves at least once a year. Is this week really the Ohio bash?? Darn, I wish I were with you all. Please have a lovely time for me, too! I did go to my Wednesday morning quilt group today for the first time in months - it was so good to chat with everyone and see what they're all doing! I am finally making some half-square triangles with my batiks, though I don't know what I'll do with them yet. I've been using the lovely little Featherweight belonging to my friend and have to start making payments on it this week. Now that I've had it here I can't live without it. I've got an e-mail server problem, and temporarily (I hope) can't access it. Would one of the Serial Quilters post something on one of the WWQP boards to let me know where we're meeting this Friday? I'd call (and may have to), but I know how much y'all LOVE IM. I e-mailed Cassi and Bev, but I'm not sure that the e-mail is going through--my husband switched e-mail systems and the one I used may not have been configured for the new one. Help!

To get back to the shoe issue--I remember fondly a couple pairs of Famolare shoes that I had in the 70's. Wavy heels, strappy sandal look. After they were broken in, wonderful to wear. And I wore Earth Shoes for years, and clogs. And I still have and wear a pair of flip-flops I bought for less than a dollar over 25 years ago. And I've used them for major walks, not just puttering around the house! Cheapest pair of shoes I ever had. Now I mainly wear my Nike Air Max tennies (fit great with wide feet, and I have a herniated disk that the air cushion really cushions the shock on the rest of the body) and some Easy Spirits and a pair of clogs. Comfortable shoes are a necessity!

Thanks, all!

Hello everyone! Who ordered all this rain?? I shouldn't complain - the farmers were probably glad to see it, but it does make the grass grow, and when you mow more than an acre and a half...need I say more? HA! I guess it could be worse and we'd mow all 9 acres...yikes!

Shoes - this topic is amusing. I have had the same size feet since about age nine. Mother claims I have my father's long skinny feet (lucky for her he has long skinny feet or the mailman might be suspect, ha! JUST KIDDING!!)Any hoo, I wear a size 9-9 1/2 narrow to double 'A' width depending on shoe manufacture. Down the road a ways from Seymour was a nice little Easy Spirit outlet, more like a close out shop for last year's stock and the factory goofs. At any rate, the shoes were half price. Whoopee! BUT, those %$#*&^ closed down last year [insert whine here]. In the past my shoe buying excursions were few and far between. When I found a pair of shoes I liked I'd buy 2-3 pair at a time. My luck was never very good if I'd only buy one pair a year cuz it was 100% probability that next year I would find SQUAT!!! Well...there is only one pair still in a box in the closet (we're just talking about basic brown leather shoes to wear with jeans and slacks - I still have a bizillion pumps in every colour known to man from my office working days - will NEVER have to buy another pair of dress shoes for as long as I live LOL). Needless to say I will be out hunting for another source of Easy Spirits [insert whine here].

Gotta go kids - ELVIS IS BACK!!! (For the new kids, Elvis is my Janome MC 8000, so NO I am NOT talking about the late singer!) teeheehee from Brenda in Indiana >^..^<

I would like to get some feedback on how you, as quilters, define art quilts, what are the criteria for a quilt to be labeled an art quilt, and how do you feel about them as works of art versus works of craft (or is there not a difference?). Any and all opinions concerning the topic of art quilts would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Whew, My email was totally messed up for two weeks and I didn't even know it. Found out this morning and the computer people at work showed me how to check on a different, back-up program. 87 messages!!!! I just finished going through them. Thank-you to everyone who replied about my tulip inquiry. I have called a few greeenhouses here and am waiting for them to get back to me. If things don't work out I will certainly take up the offer a few of you made to purchase some for me and get them to me. If that is the route I need to go I will email you personally. Thanks so much! It's a comfort too, if I can get them, because then I won't have to stress so much about getting the quilt I was going to do for them done. I just didn't see it happening. They will still get something QR, maybe a wall hanging or a pillow.

Not much else new today. Got some work done on my healing quilt last night. Appropriate because I started feeling bad again. My body is just not happy these days! I started training and working out very regularly and I'm gaining weight. I'm holding to the water retention theory! LOL. Also saw "Notting Hill" last night with a girlfriend. Our respective significant others refused to come with us to the movie. "Chick Flick" they complained. Well, it was absolutely hilarious, and I didn't even cry once. And I am a person that can cry at a long distance commercial! Sad, but true. I'll even cry watching a sitcom if something really good happens. You should see me when I've got PMS!! ROFLOL! Needless to say they missed out. I recommend it to all of you.

Well, gotta do more cleaning up on the computer before they reinstall my hard drive. (Couldn't that be taken the wrong way......just kidding!)

I sympathize with all of you who suffer trying to find shoes to fit. I wear a size 12W and I have a 24 year-old DD who wears
a size 15W - the only place I know of to get dress shoes for her is a company called Shoecraft out in Massachusetts. We needed a
pair of shoes for her for a wedding last month, and they were extremely helpful. However, they are a little on the expensive side.
At least by Midwest standards, that is. We paid $89 for a pair and had to have three different shoes shipped, and then returned
the two that did not fit. But they were very helpful and I would recommend them. I am lucky enough to be able to go to a
Payless Shoe Source store and get shoes. They have an 800 number, but I can't seem to find it right now.

When I was in high school, you couldn't find shoes larger than a 9, and I cried many nights about not being able to get shoes. This was back
in the 50's and I wore either men's loafers or saddle shoes.

My DH and I drove Saturday to PA for a dog trial and then home again on Monday, a total of 1250 miles. Forgot to take my quilting with me,
was quite bummed. I hate sitting around with nothing in my hands. I am working on a grandmother's flower garden.

Weather today in Wisconsin is cloudy and about 70 degrees.

Subject: Quilting at Sea
E-mail Address: ericksonATphastDOTumassDOTedu

Well it *was* memorial day weekend. I hope everyone had a safe and happy (and thoughtful) holiday. Although I was too wiped out by that virus I picked up while traveling to do much but putter around the yard on saturday, DH wanted to go out sailing on Sunday and Monday. OK, I said, as long as I didn't have to DO anything. Usually at this time of year it is really cool on the coast since the water temperature is in the mid-50's at best. If you have a sea breeze, you freeze your butt off! I was not looking forward to freezing my butt off (no matter how big it gets). But I agreed to go and made sure to pack that hexagon baby quilt with me and the "frog blocks" kit. I wasn't sure how easy it would be to quilt at sea. Turns out that the day was just spectacular. It was sunny and we had a land breeze and the temperature on the coast was about 75*. AAAAhhhhhhhh. Basking conditions for Ronna Iguana. Since DH knows that I love "beach time", we went to Essex which has a really fine beach. Only problem was
that we would get there at just about low tide and there is a bar across the entrance. Every year with the winter storms, the bar changes, so for the first time in during the season, you kind of feel your way in . We got there two hours before low tide and thought we just *might* make it. If not, well, it is just sand after all and there weren't any seas to speak of. Luck was with us and we went in with at least 10-12 inches to spare, anchored and were sitting back (DH enjoying a cold one)by 5:00pm. I pulled out my trusty quilting hoop and the baby quilt. AAAAhhhh....now I know that the sailing season will not keep me from my quilting! After dinner, I was able to put in somemore QQT (Quality Quilting Time). So maybe this project will be finished before my 18 month old niece graduates from high school (LOL)!
The next morning (being Memorial day) I was able to "dress ship". This is a nautical tradition where you take all of your signal flags and string them from the bow of the boat, overtop the mast and then to the stern of the boat. It is really pretty. It also allows me to air out the signal flags so they don't get mildew! It was just the right amount of breeze to fly the flags but not beat them to death. The boats all look so pretty when they do this. One of the other boats in the anchorage was a 27 ft sail boat flying a flag that was 30 ft long!!!! This is an enormous flag! (The usual scale for flags is 1" per 1 ft of boat length. This was as big as the sail that the boat would probably fly! It looked really neat. We got to go to the beach early in the morning while it was still deserted. I love having sandy toes TerTer! What a glorious day. The wind picked up and the sail back was in a bit rougher seas once we rounded Cape Ann (wind was mostly southerly). I will have to get used to that motion
again.....always takes me a while before I can disconnect my inner ear from my stomach.... But it was a much quiltier two days than I imagined I would have in good weather!

The subject line of this message should really read "quilting at anchor" but it just didn't sound as romantic.....

Hi; this is my second attempt to post this morn, hope I have better luck this time.
Kitty Kate, you keep me laughing, and I love your name, it is just too cute. As for the Free Cell addiction, I find myself addicted to this quilt page, I actually got more quilting done before we purchased this 'puter' and my DD told me about the WWQ page, Oh well, I can think of worse things to be addicted to. My DH loves Free Cell but I'm too ignorant when it comes to card games, I can't for the live of me keep the rules straight.
I belong to the ordinary foot club also, Monica in Maine. Although they are very narrow which can make it difficult to find shoes to fit properly. Tennis shoes are my best bet.
My mom has one of those card baskets, they are so cute. My mom & dad are on their way from Idaho for my DGD graduation from the 8 th grade. Maybe I can talk her out of it, now you know why they call me that darn kid.
Has anyone made one of those STACK & WHACK quilts? I saw two on display at a local fabric store, very interesting. I'm not sure about my stacking and whacking skills, mine may not look stacked and whacked! They are quite beautiful!
I had better get off this puter and take one last look at the house, I feel 16 again when my mom comes to visit, house cleaning wise that is.
She never says any thing mean to me, just gives me that LOOK.

Just had to add a post. I wear Birks, not for comfort but for survival. I don't know what all of my inner foot problems are but I sure do hurt alot and absolutely cannot walk with out Birks. I was in great pain one day, parked in front of the Birk store so I went in. My comment was "I don't know how much these things cost, I have to have them." They immediately took all the pressure off my heel. They are not beautiful. I have to wear them with everything. I would love to have pretty shoes but it cannot happen.
On weird feet....I have long toes, DH has short. When DS1 was in the womb we argued over whose feet he should have. Guess we marked him as he had long toes but as he grew, the tendons thought they were attached to short toes. Poor kid, his foot prints looked like he had only a big toe as the rest were drawn up. He had to have very major surgery at 17 to correct the problem. It is still not great but better. The surgery was so new at the time that the Doc took the just published book into surgery with him. DS came out of surgery with pins in all of his toes, with corks stuck in the tops of the pins. Called him Corky for a while.

Hey ladies..back from the lake, finally! My Chris that is 7 caught a 9.5 Wiper Bass..that fish was as big as he was! But was he proud of his fish! Mark is going to have it mounted for him..must be a man thing..Chris realed it up and finally after about 20 minutes of fighting this fish was able to get it netted..this is his fish, since I think..mean daddy wouldn't help him at all! Just kept him from getting yanked out of the boat..if mommie would have been there..I probably would have ruined the whole thing and helped him get it in..thats why mom stays at the camper when they go out..well that and that little "no girls allowed" rule! But we did have a wonderful weekend..nice weather and lots of fun!

My feet are normal I guess also..I do have a thing for shoes though..I am a compulsive shopper when it comes to shoes..the uglier the better..bet that didnt surprise anyone! You know its hard to find shoes that goes with overalls...just have to get the right sort of Clod-hoppers to look real good! When I was a teenager we wore the Clogs..just slip in you feet and go..but I was forever slipping them off and forgetting where they were! I have Army boots, biker boots..snow boots..no dress shoes...have to bum them from Mom if I need them..sandles of all kinds..the gaudier the better on the sandles..tennis shoes..low top, high top..just a general wide variety of goofy looking shoes! I dont have the "Spice Girl" type tennies with the thick sole yet..still thinking about them..if they are to strange for me..thats saying alot..

I think I have a piece of dead fruit in my kitchen, I have the little fruit flies all over the place..Nick probably hid an orange or something..he does that sometimes..and then we get the little flies all over! I hate them things!! Fly right up your nose! Its usually under his bed in his treasure box..Kids!!

About to get all the stuff for Ohio done..about..is the key word here! About everything else quilty is on hold till after Ohio! I just cant wait..Mark got my ticket for me..I told him I would like to go early on Thursday..so how about 8 AM!! Early enought?? Poor Cassi and Bev..have to put up with me so early in the morning!! LOL!! I'm sure they will just put me to work, helping to set up everything..should be fun...

Missed everyone..so much! Been so busy just really lurking and giggling alot! Look up quilter in the dictionary and find a wide butted, big footed, short women?? LOL!! Its just amazing that so many of us have common traits like this! LOVE IT!!

Welcome to all the New Posters..love getting to meet more wonderful ladies out in Cyberland....better get and go find the reason for the fly infestation!!

Well, I guess I have to join this confessional. I too am a Freecell junkie. Ever since the first day we got the computer. My kids tell their friends, we can't use the computer now, my Mom's playing Freecell. She says she'll only play l more game, but she'll be there 2 hours, count on it. Now when the friends come, they say Your Mom's playing Freecell AGAIN. Does she ever get tired of it. LOL My kids spent a whole year begging me to at least try another game. NAH.

However, this year my youngest introduced me to TAIPAI which also came with the computer. That's almost as bad. But I only play 2 or 3 of those before switching back to freecell.

Man, I could get a lot of stuff done if I just got off this thing.

PS it's like going to fabric stores. If I just spent all THAT time sewing, I'd get so much done.

You absolutely keep me laughing, Kitty Kate, and I love that name of yours. It is just too cute!
My DH also loves Free Cell, I don't play because I'm too ignorant when it comes to remembering game rules, I'm one of those people that say in the middle of a game, "What do I do now?"
As for the feet, I belong to the ordinary foot club, except for being very narrow, which can make it hard to find just the right pair. My mom still has one of those card baskets, one that my gramma made. I had forgotten all about it until seen it on the BB. Mom always kept it in her bedroom away from us kids, I always liked to handle it, maybe I can talk her out of it! HA HA
She and Dad are on their way from Idaho for visit and DGD graduation from 8 th grade.
Have any of you gals made one of those WHACK and STACK quilts. I saw 2 of them displayed at a local fabric shop. Look very interesting and beautiful. I'm just not sure about how my stacking & whacking could turn out that way ? Oh well back to checking out the cleanliness of my house before my mom gets here. I'm 52 but feel 16 when my mom checks out my house! Happy quilting to all. Wish I had a cute name like Kitty Kate! Or Loon! Or Cozy in N.Dakota!

Hello, my name is Cassi, and I'm a Free Cell addict. I admit that I play this game while waiting for my children to get ready to leave for their activities. I confess that I play it while dinner is cooking. I acknowledge that I don't have the patience to wait for pages on the internet to load - I have to pull up the Free Cell game and play a few rounds. And yes, I even get engrossed in a game or two while chatting on IM. I'm a Free Cell addict....and I'll never be able to get it out of my system.

For those who aren't familiar with Free Cell, it's a solitaire card game - ours was automatically loaded on our computer when we bought it. It is addictive!

Y2K raffle quilt. A number of people asked about being able to buy raffle tickets, and it appears that it's okay for you to send me money to buy them for you. Here's what I'm going to do for those who send money. I will buy the tickets and keep each person's stubs in a separate envelope. I really don't want to get into mailing the stubs back to you all....hope that is okay. The drawing is June 12, so if you want tickets you'd best hurry and send your money in. Most of you have my address already - if not, e-mail me and I'll give it to you. Tickets are $1 each, 6 for $5, 12 for $10, etc. Checks should be made payable to ACT (that stands for All That Jazz Competition Team). As long as your money arrives by June 11 (Friday), I won't have a problem buying the tickets. If it arrives Saturday (day of the drawing) I won't be home to get the mail before the drawing. Thanks to everyone who wants to participate.....and DD and her dance team thank you too!

Oh, by the way, the Y2K quilt is backed and bound with the Millenium fabric shown in Hancock's catalog - dark blue background with taupe lettering. Pictures of clocks and the name millenium in lots of different languages. It is about 80x100". I used Quilter's Dream batting (big surprise there!) and it is machine quilted on the diagonal. No special arrangement of the squares - just completely random and very scrappy looking.

All for now....off to that wonderful yearly gyn visit that I look forward to SO much!

SUSAN IN MT----What did we start???? Where will it end???? I "toed" you not to start anything. I won't be a "heel" about these normal-size foot people either. They are our "arch" rivals, definitely "shoe-ins." Oh no, I really "nailed" that one, didn't I??? Better do some "sole" searching. Guess I really "socked" it to you girls!!!!AAAACCCKKK!!!!!

SUE IN GERMANY---$35 US for Birks???? We pay around $90 w/sales tax for the basic model over here. There are some new cute styles out there but they don't make them in my size. Boo-hoo. Just call ME Sasquatch. Sorry, Kitty Kate, I am the original "big foot." I'm going to take a German language class this summer if the class "makes". Now I know what to do with it. When I come to Europe, I'll ask "where is the Birkenstock outlet??""" LOL!!!!!

KITTY KATE--You are getting way too funny!!!! But a sense of humor is priceless. Are you powerless over FreeCell? Is your life becoming unmanageable? I always thought there should be a 12-step group for quilting addicts, but they need one for computer addicts too (I think I qualify.) Carry the message. . . . .

LOON---I'll send you the info as soon as the next shoe catalog comes in.

Going out of town for 4 days with DH. He informs me that he will bring the laptop so I can keep up with my e-mails & BB. What a hoot!!! LOL!!! DS is in Florida, DES (Exchange Student) home alone, and we're headed for Wisconsin. Lots of golf & good food. YYAAAAYYYYY!!!

Oops! My last post got cut off in the middle....

I was just going to say that the Cabbage Patch cats were called koosas. I think they had dogs too. Our two youngest sons each had one. The 19 year old still has his - "Ranger".

We have 5 children plus a granddaughter who lives with us. We also have a grandson, and another grandchild due in July.

Our kids are: Stewart-28, Reagan-23, Ashley-19, Garrett-19, Andrew-17 and then Shabree-3. Keeps us hoppin'. Our oldest two were born to us and the three youngest came to us through adoption... so called 'hard-to-place' children. Then Shabree was born to Garrett.

DH is an electrician and I am a stay-at-home mom. I also write a little newspaper column.

This sure is a fun place to be on the internet!

KITTY KATE: Your post gave me a chuckle even though I am one of those skinny people and sometimes I do actually forget about eating. If I don't have to feed the kids (if they are at their grandparents or something) and I am busy with a quilt, I have actually gone hours past lunch and not realized it. For some reason, though, I never forget about eating when I am doing housework...
CHERYL: I loved the story about your Baba - what a lot of special memories you must have. My grandmother used to make those baskets out of old greeting cards. I don't know if any of you remember them - I think it was a 70's thing. She would cut the cards out in different shapes depending on the box she wanted to make, punch holes all around each shape and then crochet them together. I am really sad that those boxes did wear out with use (we kids used our boxes for everything!) and I don't have any left.

I love my Birkenstock's, too! As I live near the home of Birkenstock's, I own several pairs and several styles. Some are really ugly, Doris, but they have made some really nice ones lately, and I even wear them with a skirt! It is my everyday footwear, and I hate having to wear closed shoes in winter. I still wear them in the house all winter. I'd be interested how much a pair of Birk's is in the US. Over here, if they are on sale, you'd pay about $35, but the most recent models are up to $55.

OKAY Ter Ter, I admit it. I am a FREE CELL addict. I hate waiting for things to load or connect, etc. I play FREE CELL while I wait. Sometimes I play it for too long. Are you happy now, I spilled the beans on myself.
TER TER What cabbage patch kittens? I never heard of them. Please tell me more. I promise knot to tell all your secrets if you do.
At the beginning of the CABBAGE PATCH DOLL craze, we were living in Germany. I had ordered them through a catalog but got a notice they were out of them. PX didn't have any. Some kids got them from DGPs in the states. Must have been very fit. Went to the Canadian PX in the Black Forest. They had a huge pile of dolls stacked up. I told the girls to find 2 dolls each. They went through them all. When we got back to Wurzburg, all the kids were amazed that we had found them. I told everyone about the Canadian PX. I guess they really had a run on them then. The next year we got the girls the premmies with pacifers. Daddy would sneak into their rooms and take the dolls. Then he would yell "Hand Grenade" and pull out the pacifer and throw the dolls. The girls would scream "Mom, make him stop", like I could do anything about it.
JDB I went to the SISTERS, OR quilt show in '96. DH says we will be going this year. Wasn't able to go '97 & '98 too many operations, etc.
THANK YOU PEG AND RACHEL for adopting little kittens. There are so many that need homes. Remember to spay and neuter.
NANCY SEWBIRD now you are sounding like a compulsive sewer. I have made clothes by hand whenever I was without a machine. I am obsessed with sewing. You wear your name well.
SUSAN JOY I would love to see a picture of the boat when it is done. Sounds like loads of fun. Oh, to be young again. Naw!
FEET I've got 2. I have Birkenstock sandals. Since I have to wear this nasty brace and the foot is partially numb, I can't wear them anymore. The heel strap slides down the brace and I don't know it. Next thing I know I am tripping on the sandal because it is half off. If I go without the brace, my left foot goes flap! flap!. I have to pick the leg up high to clear the toes from scraping. I look ridiculous. I shouldn't complain, I still have both feet.
LOON I am waiting for some of your work to come my way. I am an avid reader of poetry.
Well, I hope I haven't talked your eyes off. I will end for now. But I'll be Bach!
Take care and may God bless you and yours!

A WOMAN'S RANDOM THOUGHTS

Skinny people irritate me! Especially when they say things like, "You know sometimes I just forget to eat." Now I've forgotten my address, my mother's maiden name, and my keys. But I've never forgotten to eat. You have to be a special kind of stupid to forget to eat.

A friend of mine confused her valium with her birth control pills. She had 14 kids, but she doesn't really care.

They keep telling us to get in touch with our bodies. Mine isn't all that communicative but I heard from it the other day after I said, "Body, how'd you like to go to the six o'clock class in vigorous toning?" Clear as a bell my body said, "listen witch... do it and die."

The trouble with some women is that they get all excited about nothing (and then they marry him.)
I just had to post this. Take care and may God bless you and yours!

Love, >^..^< Kitty Kate in WA >^..^<

I read this article that said the typical symptoms of stress are eating too much, smoking too
much, impulse buying, and driving too fast. Are they kidding? That is my idea of a perfect day.

I know what Victoria's Secret is. The secret is that nobody older than 30 can fit into their stuff.

the day by tying a noose around your neck?"

They have a wedding cake and snacks, the newpaper was the and they were on the front page of the paper and they were the first cabbage patch kids to be married. But sadly to say the it only lasted a year or so.

BIRKENSTOCKS---I agree with the "Teacup." I got my first pair of Birks 6 weeks ago and LOVE them. They do run wide, so if anyone out there has a wide foot, the Medium width will do fine. I bought Narrow, and still had to punch a hole for the buckle to tighten them up.

Eddie Bauer carries lots of sizes up to 12's in Med & Wide. I'm a narrow (boo-hoo) so I have to watch what I order.

CATALAOG SHOE ORDERING---I pay the freight both ways. It's part of the cost of shoe shopping. I figure if I want new shoes, that's the price I have to pay. Besides, I can order while sitting in my 'jammies with a cup of tea, and they put them right there on my front doorstep for me. No fighting the crowds at the mall, traffic etc. It's a little expensive this way, but worth it. No one in the mall has my size (except the store that sells the European brand shoes, but even they all run tend to run wide and I can't have it all.)

KITTY KATE---girl, treat yourself and try a pair of Birkenstocks. I have chronic bursitis in my heel joint which is just like having a bone spur, and fallen arches. Also have had plantar fasciaitis (sp?) and just got over it a year or two ago. But still aggravates the bursitis. I have to add arch support in every pair of shoes I own, except the Birks. And my heel doesn't need padding either. Yes, as someone said, they're "butt ugly" but this "Boomer" doesn't give a darn anymore. I'm into comfort. Life is getting too short. I'll bet you'd love a pair. You're worth it.!!!!

As they say in the horse industry, "no hoof, no horse." LOL!!!!

What a wonderful response to the blocks for Ridgeley and the children- you are doing a great job Cassi keeping us all up to date. Has anyone heard anything recently from Ridgeley?- I think of her and the children everyday.

Glad you posted again Wanda, you are now officially a BBer- LOL You were only a newbie for a few hours, and then we were joined by Cozy and Nuke- welcome girls. Cozy- you need a medal for raising 10 children- I have only raised 2 and
that has made me grey haired!!!!

Teacup- there are no Darrells here-my "boyfriend" is dear old Mr B across the road- not a day younger than 80 and just a pet. Works out in his garden in his long navy blue shorts down to his knees and his long navy blue socks up to his knees, and he waves to all the ladies- the imp!!!

Our dear Loon is a real dark horse- but like everyone else, I know she is keeping some secrets from us. Every day she entertains Teacup and I with an early morning hilarious "wake up" call- is definitely a Master of words- AND she knows all the words to "On Blueberry Hill" too- ROFLOL I think she likes teasing us with her alias!!!!

Can't join the feet club- I just have ordinary feet- (I think )!!!!

I am waitng with bated breath about the science project boat- love the suspense- I hope they do well and it makes it's Maiden Voyage!!!

Hey, Judy, don't ask me the difference between 1800s or 180s or any other number for that matter. You're talking to someone who's "machine impaired" after sewing on a Kenmore for 20 years. My son asked me once why I didn't get a better machine and I told him it would take me too long to research which machine I'd like the best! Fortunately, DH took matters in his own hands and decided I'd sewn on my old faithful long enough. One of the nicest things he's ever done for me!

I've found that for my wide little ducky-feet the most comfortable shoes around are Marine Corps Jungle Boots. They are about 20 bucks at surplus stores and last for years. ;) Most womens shoes make the assumption that if your feet are small, they must also be narrow, but not in my family!

Tonight I am taking my first quilting class at Rosies. We're just making a little sampler quilt, but I am looking forward to it. DH is planning on taking the class in August. I guess we are turning into a real quilting couple! Yay! He already has hopes of making a stack and whack, though for the life of me I can't figure out how he even knows what one is. I guess I shouldn't complain. ;)

Speaking of DH, he just bought us 2 VW bugs! The pair came for $800 from a corperal who is being moved to Georgia. What a lucky strike!

We just got a new kittycat, too. She finally sleeps through the night without meowing her brains out for no reason (thank you kitty kate for your advice!). Her name is Andromeda, and now that she is comfortable here, she is doing a wonderful kitty-job of taking over every thing in sight. What a good cat!

Well that's about all that's going on in this particular apartment. Good evening to you all!

Hi everyone!
I just wanted to throw in my 2 cents in on the shoes. Being an individual that Smokey the Bear keeps on retainer (to stamp out forest fires), I'm always on the lookout for shoes. I found that The Lane Bryant catalog has a few good styles and brands like hush puppies etc. They have the cork sandles with the suede straps (name brand nock-off) for under $20. Wide Shoes: I have ordered successfully from the good old JCPenney catalog.....but with a little trick: I take a 9 or 9 1/2 D, depending on the shoe. So I order one of each, and then try them on at the catalog desk before taking the one that fits. They have both dress and casual shoes in lots of colors. I also have good luck with Naturalizer, they will order if they don't have it in stock in the color you want, and the shipping to your home is free and fast. I also get catalogs from time to time, but haven't ordered from any of them, cause the prices are usually outrageous,

The sad news that Robbie the cat is no more. After his latest binge with thread he had to be put to sleep. We were hoping that he had not gotten enough of it to matter-- but. I had been so careful all year and just layed my thread down one time and it was too much.
The good news that we adopted a golden ball of fun whose name is Leo and who shows no sign of wanting to eat anything but cat food.
At the end of the school year teachers get very tired and slow down with paperwork. he kids get hyper because you are putting the books away and becuase we have warm sticky weather.

To Jean in Vermont (who's Snoopy Dancing in the next room) is the Bernina 1800 the equivalent of ten 180's? My Artista has spoiled me rotten.

And I smell rotten too -- ye olde air conditioner repairman finally showed up (nearly four hours later than promised) so I've been MELTING, MELTING -- just call me the Wicked Witch of the Southwest -- waiting for him. Now he's hot(!) on the trail of a new part. Oh well. It's only 92F outside, so it could be a lot worse.

Has anybody in cyber land been to the outdoor quilt show in Sisters, Oregon? How about the "Quilting in the Tetons" retreat? Just trying to get a jump on planning next summer.

I have enjoyed reading everyone's big feet (sorry) stories and how you found comfortable shoes. So now I have a question. I get a couple of catalogues with what look like cute comfortable shoes. But I hate to buy without trying them on because my feet are so hard to fit and shoes don't run standard. So how do you all order? Do you have good luck? Do you have to pay shipping twice if you need to return? My feet need either a 9 W or a 91/2 Med usually, but the shoes are not interchangeable, if you know what I mean. Sometimes it even takes a 9 1/2 W. But only one of those sizes in any one shoe will fit so I never know which to order, so haven't so far. If anybody can help here, please jump in!!

It is great to see that so many new people are discovering "US"!! ;)

Have to share a cabbage patch story... My DD #1, now 22 was living in the midst of the beginning of the CP frenzy! I finally had to make her one, they were so hard to get and so not on our budget...but I digress... At the time, I belonged to a "babysitting co-op" where I got to meet about 40 other ladies and we watched each other's kids on a rotating basis at a local church's facilities. The kids went once a week, and we worked once a month. Cabbage patch stories were legion!! One of the mom's who had three daughters, was particularly anxious to make sure that all three girls had one for Christmas. This was the year where people were getting injured in stampeded at stores where they lined up for hours, you get the picture... Well one day my friend Lois came in to tell us her story. She was driving by a local mall when she realized that there was a long line forming. She assumed that it must be a secret Cabbage Patch shipment that she had not heard about (and she WAS keeping up on that, believe me!) So, she drives into the mall parking lot, and up to the Sears store and alongside the line. Catching someone's attention she yells out, "Is this line for Cabbage Patch dolls?" and several teenagers turned to look her way and said, no we are standing in line for tickets to see ...some rock group.

We all got a good laugh out of that.
Celia's story warmed my heart though, and really makes you think about all the good feelings and nice things that we do that can never be seen, nice to see every once in a while, too!

It is great to see so many new people discovering "us", Welcome all of you!!

And shoes, big, little, wide, etc.... No connection here, but a big foot - 10 1/2, B. I have ordered shoes in recent years from the Eddie Bauer Catalog, many shoes are available up to a 12 ( DD#1's size!!). I also get several catalogus in the mail with large and all size wide shoes. Next time I get them, I'll post their names. Can't seem to remember now, and don't have any.

We got our DS graduated from HS on Saturday, and for now, all's right with the world.

I'm sewing my way out of being very behind!! Have a great day one and all!

Susan Joy in CA -- Didn't mean to forget the comment I wanted to send you. Regarding the bridesmaid dress, it's working out just fine. Couldn't find a light seafoam green invisible zipper, so will use off white. The lining I found will be great. Don't know what the others are going to look like, but this one will look good. At least she (the bridesmaid) will be proud to wear it again.

As for the off-the-shoulder wedding gown question. I would think that you could put a casing on the inside of the sleeve and run a small piece of elastic through it, making it a little tighter, so that it would "stay put" off the shoulders when raising the arms. Other than that, the bride will just have to check the sleeves every so often. Can't think of anything else.

Sorry for my failing memory and not taking care of this earlier. Must be our overcast weather!

Wanda in Tx, go ahead and start on your yo-yo curtains. Years ago (during the Gulf war) I made 616 yo-yos for a bathroom curtain. I don't usually watch any TV, and couldn't stand to have my hands idle while watching coverage of the war, so -- made yo-yos. Cut out MANY circles, then just made one right after another. I love that curtain -- still have it up. I used a tiny white cafe rod and just wove it between the top row of yo-yos.
Now I'm making yo-yos for a bed coverlet that requires at least 4000 of the little buggers. Mostly make them while family members are in the hospital. I'm over half way finished, though.
Loved the parade stories from everyone. When I was very young, the kids on our street had our own parade, complete with decorated bicycles and tricycles, dogs, cats in doll buggys, and musical instruments (we all found drums, trumpets, etc). Of course, red-white-blue streamers, and even costumes. Was lots of fun. No parade here this year. Oh well, too hot anyway. I don't remember the weather being this hot when I was young. I guess this is what getting old does to you! LOL

Susan in MT - SNOW????? Honestly, I thought we had it bad here with low temps and overcast days. I don't think we're going to have much of a summer.

Sounds like everyone is keeping busy.

TerTer -- Any weekend OTHER than the June 19-20, and after June 15th is fine with me. Sorry to be so specific. The 20th is our wedding anniversary and I've heard rumors around the house that there's something special being planned. The fact that DH is thinking this far ahead really has me worried. He never thinks ahead. I think I've shared with some of you the time he forgot about mother's day coming up. He ran to the store that morning and the only card he could find was "Happy Mother's Day to my Secret Pal". He has yet to live that one down!

Kids are anxious to get out of school. DD's awards ceremony is this Thursday evening. She has been on the honor roll the entire year, so will probably get a trophy for that. Her school is great about giving incentives for the kids who make the most progress, etc. She got one for the "most improved in gym" at the end of 1st semester. She's not the sportsy kind of kid, so we were very pleased, as was she!

Finally got caught up on the chat BB. Honestly, everyone has been busy! I'm taking DD up to my sister's place on the 11th and plan to stop at the Quilted Angel in Petaluma. They have the Jinny Beyer fabrics for her kit that I want to do. Looks great on the web, now we'll see how it looks in person. When Susan and I met at the Quilting Bee in Mountain View, I was kind of disappointed at the mosaic border we saw there. It just wasn't as brilliant as it shows on the websites.

Hope everyone is having a great week. Send some warm weather our way, okay? And no Snow, okay Susan?

Take care and happy quilting.

Sondra is very overcast Calif.

Yummy, I just finished lunch. I love spring. Chicken and asparagus bake, and rhubarb crisp for dessert. Good food and good company.

MONICA IN MAINE - You asked about crossstich patterns. My Baba (grandmother in Ukrainian) is a phenomenal cross-stich artist. Though diabetes has seerly affected her eyesight and her hands can hardly hold the needle, she spends all winter cross-stitching. I think it frustrates her that she can't be in her garden. But she does some beautiful stuff. And everytime we go for a visit she seems to have more and more of it to give away. She does full-size photograph copies and lots of still lifes. She also does pillow cases in different geometric patterns. My favourites, though, are the traditional Ukrainian designs. Usually in black and red they are geometric floral designs or other symbols. Commonly you find them as bands rather than an overall pattern for a pillow or something. Ukrainian pottery incorporates the same designs, and our blouses for Ukrainian dancing were embellished by the embroidery. My sister loved the patterns so much that she got a tattoo around her ankle of one! Some tattoos are awful, but hers is beautiful. You should have seen the look on my Baba's face when she saw it. She wanted to be shocked, but I think she was extremely flattered to see my sister's homage.

FREE CELL - I used to play randomly, but I recently started going through the game sin order. In the course on one paper for school I manged to get the first 40 games out of the way! I don't think I have played since - don't turn the computer on much as home.

TULIPS - I asked yesterday, but I will ask again. Does anyone know where I could get my hands on some tulip bulbs in July? Yeah, yeah, I know it is totally out of sync, but somebody has to have some hiding away in storage.

Well, time for a walk. Get myself refreshed for the afternoon and some quilting later on - finally. Work and life just take up too much time. No wonder so many quilters end up teaching or working in a store. It truly is an addiction!!

Cheers! Cheryl in Edmonton

Sent off Annelies gifts today.WOW, is it cheaper Celia/Teacup if I mail to you in Canada and then off to the Netherlands? We need to find a way to do this.

Doni: Honest, I mailed it today...

So I have met a few free cell junkies...glad to know I'm not the only one.

I have Sarah Kimberely and Nathan John and one of those cabbage patch kitten things, name has slipped my mind (senior moment). For my 40th birthday I received Sarah made clothes for her and took her everywhere, now she sits in a basket waiting for a baby girl to come into our family, if not then off to my GDN in Mantecca. When someone is ill and can't get out of bed in our family, Sarah comes to visit and it is up to you to feed, change and care for her...You should see my mom (80 in 2000) talking to Sarah, hey it gets your mind off the bad stuff and keeps ya smiling. Name of the game right.

SO Loon is having problems on the pond. Well when Celia and Teacup come to visit, I'm flying in to Bosten, renting a car and canoe and coming to visit heck I just might take the motor home on my own....you all will have someone to pump my gas for me there in Maine right? I DO NOT PUMP GAS!! tried once and made such a mess and fool of myself...If I can't find a kind person to help, I sit home until I do...I know SPOILED.. but...thats TerTer...

Jeane Rae: A very big welcome to you, You are proof of what I always knew, Quiltes are special!
WELCOME to Cozy in N.Dakota, I've been through that state, and it gets sooo cold there.
Marty in Vt. I absolutely loved your Cabbage Patch April fools story. I love April fools day pranks. My children never know what I will come up with. The older I get the more I prank. I can't wait until next April.
I will get off a squishy to Faith, thanks for the post Monica, I always love to help others out. When you give you always get back three fold. Plus it makes you feel good.
We put flowers on my DH's uncle grave this weekend. When I was a child my gramma & grampa would spend memorial days going out to cemetaries and find the graves that were very old and had not received flowers and we would pick wildflowers and place on them. I loved the times I spent with my grand parents, they left me with many wonderful memories. I try to do those simple things with my grand children, hopefully I can leave them with some special memories.
I hope all had a pleasant Memorial weekend. Let us not forget those that have died for our freedom. May they rest in peace.

I wear 9 1/2 size shoe and it gets very hard to find anything you would want to wear. I usually stick to open toes or my Birks. I trip over my feet most of the time.
To the person who is going to Cent., Is this the same as Kent,Wash? There are 2 good shops near Seattle called In the Beginning, which are great for ideas and have their own line of patterns and fabrics. Hope you get a look-see! Hugs to all, Jana from Wash.

Welcome, Wanda.
Yes we DO make yo-yo's. In fact the lowly yo-yo is the official membership pin for this BB. It has to be yellow, though. Just make one up and wear it whenever you are somewhere that you expect to see other quilters. Someone may walk up to you and say hello. Many of us wear them to quilt shows, etc., and have met other BBr's that way. So far I haven't met anyone else, but my yo-yo is always pinned to my purse. That way I'm sure it is with me, just in case.

Good morning, everyone! I am really enjoying reading about your quilts and just the everyday happenings, in general.
jdb in AZ - No, I certainly won't be topless! Ever, probably! LOL
Marty in Vermont - I loved your April Fool's day Cabbage Patch story! That was quite an eleborate hoax.
Celia - Thanks for the welcome, and I did forget to put my name. I usually hang around a delphi board where I have a signature that posts automatically. So I've been spoiled.
Susan in MT - My DH is from MT. All his relatives (Mortensen) are still there - Forsyth, Billings, Miles City, and Manhattan. We lived in Forsyth for two years. I was totally disgusted the year the Easter weekend egg hunt on the Court House square was postponed twice, then finally cancelled, because the snow was too deep! This was a big shock for someone from way down in South Texas!!! LOL!
Do any of you make yo-yos? The fabric kind? *smile* I want to start some yo-yo curtains in shades of white/beige/cream, but gee - with all my other half finshed projects, I don't know...
Also I just started one of two crocheted afghans for a friend. She asked me to make them as recliner throws in exchange for eggs from her chickens. I'm not really in the mood for it, but the sooner I finish them, the sooner I can get going on something I want to do...
Talk to you all later!

Welcome to the mother of 10 - I have five and cannot
even imagine more. My hat is off to you, lady!
My own grandmother knitted as she got older. She made
an afghan for each of her own 7 children and then
make 6 more for EACH one! In her "spare" time, she
made a variety of afghans and when each of her 35
grandkids got engaged, she invited the new couple
over to dinner with Grandma. After dinner, they got
to look at all her current afghans and pick out the
one they wanted for a wedding gift! What a special
time for everyone! I will never forget that evening.
Even though I am now into quilting, that afghan is
still very special to me, 30 years later! She was a
grand lady - raising 7 kids alone, after grandpa
died when the kids were 5 - 13. And I complain!
I am making quilts in hopes of doing the same thing
for my grandkids - if I ever get any!!! But at the
rate I quilt, it is a good thing I am getting an
early start! Just me, Sue - Ohio - where we got a
little rain this morning and need a whole lot more!

E-mail Address: dltquilt@juno.com

I hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend. I just had to tell Kitty Kate and Marcia in Mass. that we here in South Jersey also had the very same parade. High school marching band, baton twirlers, boy scouts and girl scouts, every local organization, Veterans, Order of the Redman, First Aid Squad, and DID we have fire trucks. Every one of Mystic Island's trucks were there and every surrounding area sent at least one truck, West Tuckerton, Tuckerton, Eagleswood, Parkertown, West Creek, Warren Grove, I hope I didn't leave anyone out. DH left for work, he would know. My DS was in the MI firehouse this year. We go to graduation on Friday, from Fire School. Dh was a Vol fireman years ago, so he is following in Dad's footsteps. My nephew was also marching with boyscouts. His first time (7yr). I did it many times with Girl Scouts with my DD (now 27)
We all walk to the corner to watch the parade go by. All the organization throw candy, tootsie rolls and lolly pops to the little ones. They love it! They didn't have the kids on bikes this time. But this parade goes on every year. It is great for the kids. Lasts about 20 - 30 minutes just enough. Then the marchers go to the local momument where a battle was fought many years ago, and have a ceremony, reading of local essay contest, speeches, 21 gun salute, etc. then off to the firehouse for hot dogs and soda for all marchers. The weather was the best ever. I hope your was the same, except I hear there was snow in someones yard?

I'm a mid-forties mother and grandmother who discovered quilting about five years ago and still love it. I'm in the midst of making 4 baby quilts for 3 friends and a sister who are ALL due in mid-July! (Talk about crazy) I am a full time nuclear engineer (hence the nickname).

My big news is that my DH and I just today ordered new wood floors and carpets for our house. Which I'm real excited about as I've been saving for them for over 3 years now (and DH hasn't been too interested in spending the money. But it's done and in three weeks they should all be installed.
