Bertie - sorry to hear about the trouble with the Ott-Light. They really are great. I normally have mine in a surge protector and have not experienced any trouble. So did the test of plugging it into the same wall outlet as two tv's and everything was fine. Notice the service person said they have few complaints so that means there are some. Hope you get the problem solved. Kathy in Ohio

Linda in Idaho - my email to you bounced back - suspect you have a letter instead of a digit in your posting below. (I know about incorrect eaddys, since I typed mine in wrong earlier this week!)
I have Elaine's addy if you want to contact me.

Sunny again today, flowers on the deck have been deadheaded and I am going to do the freemotion MQ on the small Y2K quilt made with blocks my guild swapped. Except for a few practice pieces, this will be the first 'real quilt' I do this to. Wish me luck!

I had a lot of trouble getting my bulb in properly. Does that make me a dim bulb? Once it was in, it sometimes took a few tries to get it on but that was only for a week or so. I never had any trouble with the TV when I have it on, but I have the Ott Light plugged into a power bar, that gives me a little more room to drag it out when I'm working on a large quilt( I have the floor lamp and just love it).

I enjoy all the new postings..that is postings from new people. Its great to get some new blood.
Some of our blood feels pretty tired sometimes.

Belated happy Birthday to Linda in Stillwater.

Anja in Ontario: Do you actually live close enough to the zoo to make a day trip? The last time we were there it was August and the heat was so bad that we only stayed there a short time, then headed for the subway and a visit to a nice cool museaum.

I am so smart, I am so smart, S.M.R.T. LOL
Well, I finally figured out how to do something with my EQ4. What you might ask? I finally figured out how to design
a paper-pieced heart. It has only taken me a few months to do this you realize. I'll admit, I'm not always the brightest
bulb in the lot. This heart does not look pretty, but I did it!!! And it will only take a bit more wiggling to get it
to look just wonderful.
The children are finally feeling like their old selves again after a nasty bug that had them spewing from both ends - don't
want to make that any more graphic than it needs to be. So I can get to those blocks that I have been promising. YIPPEEEEE

Wanted also to send out birthday wishes to all of the lovely ladies celebrating this week.

Have a great day and hugs to all,
Anja in ON, where it is a GORGEOUS day, think I'll take the kids to the zoo.

What-ever LO-la wants, LO-la gets . . . . (Sorry, Lola, jes hadda do that!) Your hubby is a keeper since he told you to just get it! (My hubby wouldn't EV-er to thaaaat!)

I bought myself an Ott Lite and we started having dotted wavy lines go across our tv and the Ott Lite would go off sometimes. Sometimes I could turn it back on and then again, I couldn't. Decided it was defective and returned it to Clotilde. They were very nice and shipped out another one right away.

Plugged it in yesterday (after getting totally frustrated trying to get the bulb seated in it). Same thing with the tv. Also had an end table lamp burning and it was plugged into the same outlet as my Ott Lite. Blew the bulb in the end table lamp. Our house is only 33 years old so don't figure it's outdated wiring. But maybe the power surge we had last summer damaged our living room wiring somehow.

I emailed Ott Lite and asked why this was happening. They were very prompt in answering and they have gotten "very few complaints" and I should try plugging the lamp into a surge protector and/or different outlet than tv. Well, it was already plugged into a different outlet than the tv but I tried the surge protector. Still get wavy dotted lines across the tv.

Has anyone else had any similar activity from using their Ott Lite? I LOVE the Ott's light and need it but can't use it if tv is on and that's the reason I bought it in the first place!

Hi,
So good to see some new blood on the chat...just scrolled down for later reading...like best chatter that speaks to us all. Just returned from comittee meeting at work trying to makes changes in the prison system, so all hyped up...know I am only a small cog in the big wheel, but managed to voice some of my stronger opinions, observations...was the most vocal of the 15 employees. But as Mother Theresa once said, (paraphrasing) We can only do small things in this life, but we can do these things with great love...food for thought.
Think of my quilter/chatters often, and do keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Special hugs to all who need them,

Good Morning All, Seeing other lurkers"coming out" I will too! Its been a long time since I've written, I'm more of a background person I guess. It's a beautiful morning here in Wisconsin, clear skies and a nice breeze. A good day to use my out door dryer! I picked strawberries yesterday and boy do I feel it today in my old bones! But my DH and I love the rewards in the form of strawberry shortcake, DH love whipped cream on top and I like half and half cream poured over it!
I am struggling with a quilt that was suppose to be a king but turned out bigger because I just kept adding and did'nt know enough to stop! Will I ever learn? Have any of you done that? It is of my own design, scrap nine patch with black rows in between.
Well must go and hang some wash out, have a wonderful day everyone. Hugs, Helen-WI

Subject: I'm rolling over and scratching my back...
E-mail Address: jhproudfoot@sprint.ca

on a day like this. The sun is streaking obliquely across our patch of field behind the house, dew is clumped in tiny jewel-like drops on our back deck as the sun is sneaking up behind our white pines in the 'enchanted' forest. I feel like our dogs when they are so happy - I'm just going to go outside on the grass, roll over, put my paws in the air and scratch my back for the sheer joy of such beautiful weather and a day like this.

Now, for the reality of my day, since I've been reading so many wonderful postings from yesterday. Last night I had a meeting at our home for our next year's quilt exhibit here in the country. One of the ladies brought her stack and wack quilt, which absolutely boggled my mind and made me realize that I've been into quilting for so long now that I am going to have to recycle my skills. I began quilting in the 1960's when a young 'pup' of twenty-two. Having to teach myself, other than the old Dutch Girl pattern which my mother-in-law Maude Small sent to me in the mail, I had no instructive books from which to learn. After muddling through my first quilt on my own, I then approached the ladies of a nearby village church, where we were living at the time, to quilt the quilt and teach me also how to quilt at the same time. So that was the beginning of my quilt career. Fuelled on by the rave reviews of my friends, who had never quilted in their lives, I went on to make a second and third, never having stopped and never having lost my love for making quilts. Nowadays I am back to my first love, designing clothing and making it for what I hope, exhibits here in Canada, the US and occasionally, the UK, which is expensive to ship to. I seem to be able to release my creative energies more on clothing than quilts but realize that the next quilt I make, rather than one of my own design, I want to go back to the traditional quilt patterns and make some of those. To me, traditional quilt designs are like wonderful old friends and I want to have some to pass on down to my family.

To-day is cleaning out the chicken s*** day, after a walk to the stream over the hill and back, then my next chore is to figure out some contribution to a local reception for our arts festival gathering this evening, inbetween, taking in a young Bed & Breakfast guest who will be with us for the next five days and keeping an eye on our chewing puppy (apple spray advice welcomed on this point). Now to see if my day unfolds as planned. Often it does not.

Think I'll just go out and have a good old scratch on my back...

LINDA - Happy Birthday from the West Coast. It is still your birthday here! For three more minutes...
SANDI's post reminded me of the wonderful blocks that I got to see last month when Dodo, Rhian, and I spent the day together in Bath, ENGLAND! How could I forget to tell y'all -- Right there in the pub, Dodo brought out all the beautiful blocks for Stripey Bear's cub's quilt. We oohed and aahed over them, and it was such fun to see so many names from this BB.

Sorry I couldn't have tea at 3 o'clock on Tuesday as I was trying to beat the thunderstorms predicted and wanted to get to Eau Claire, WI (40 miles away) for my Stack N Whack class. I thought I had made a mistake, and definitely wanted to show the teacher. She assured me that there is not much room for error, but my blocks will go together nicely. I was fascinated by the variety of block patterns that came together. It is a grand sewing experience. I was a little concerned because the material was a little pricey but it is for the church raffle and the congregation likes to oooh and aaah over the selection.

Got to stay overnight at my DS's home (another perk for the class) and DDIL and I went baby furniture shopping today. I thought we were going fabric shopping for the nursery accessories, but we discussed enough that I now can start "grandbaby stuff"...been looking forward to this for years now. She definitely looks pregnant now and hope the next two months go fast for her...not fast enough for me.

Sonia...the Eve first post gave me a laugh. The first female supervisor at the Courthouse from which I retired a few years ago had a coffe cup that read, "When God created man, she had a smile on her face"! Somehow, the men didn't appreciate it, but the females got a charge out of it. Unfortunately, we couldn't get duplicates...that would have driven them wild.

I thought Marion's wedding dress story was a riot. We should all post our most embarrassing moments...I have to think of my worst and let you know. There have been a few over the years.

And, Lola, isn't sewing wonderful when you don't have to clean off the dining room table. Joy took on a whole new meaning for me when I got my own sewing room. Now, I only beg for the table when putting the binding on, and DH appreciates his spot. Anyone else have a DH who sits in the same spot all the time, uncrowned king of the house?

Don't look at the posting time...I swore to my DDIL that I would start going to bed earlier. I reverted to my old ways once I retired...up all night and sleep a few hours in the AM. But, I told her, think of all those hours I have to sew.

Take care all you lovelies from Pat in rural WI who still is giggling about the baby sizes boat shoes she saw today.

Marion, the Arkansas Nanny checking in and reporting a great day.Quilted with a church group today and read 2 new quilting books, examined a beautiful quilt top brought in to be quilted. This was one of those tops that make me want to burn all my attempts at quilting.ThenI learned it was from an Austrailin quilting book but no one could find out the name of that magazine. Anyone here know how many mgs. from Aust.? 'My Maddi' quilt being planned in my head and has turned into at least 6 different quilts, need to sort and discard until I find 'the' thing that pleases me. There ! I said it! This one has to please me!! It's for my Maddi(21/2)
Please read this and understand my fun with this child. As we entered her darkened bedroom she tripped over her tiny toy vacuum while I felt my way to her closet, then we left her room to go read. She decided to go back to her room and wanted to use my glasses so she, too, could 'see' in the dark room.Nanny did not fall so it must be the glasses. My goodness. I was amazed, the thought process there was evident. How do we help these bright little ones when they are probably 'smarter' than we are? I just laugh and hug her more. Her quilt has to be unique!!

Happy Birthday, Linda in Stillwater! Sounds like you had a wonderful day.

Marty, you talked me into coming out of lurker status for a little while. I found this place a year ago and
feel like most of you are old friends. I guess it's time to let you know a little about me.

I attended the MN Quilt Show in Rochester and got to meet Sandi and see her quilts. She is a very talented
quilter. I also met another lurker, Phyllis and her DH's cousin. It was great to meet. Hopefully we will be
able to meet again, maybe next year at the Quilt Show in Duluth. The Quilt Show was wonderful. Being fairly
new to quilting (about 3 years), I haven't been to a quilt show before. Seeing all the venders there, I thought
I'd died and gone to heaven. Needless to say, I had to come home with a few patterns and FQ's that were calling
out to me. I also bought an Ott Light. I had been looking at them for about 6 months and since they were 30% off,
all it took was for DH to say, "Well why don't you just get it."

Our youngest son moved out in December, so I now have a sewing room. It is so nice to be able to leave things out
and not have to clean off the dining room table when I was done for the day. It's much easier to get back to a
project when you don't have to drag it out of storage when you want to work on it. I am just finishing a baby quilt
for my youngest DGD. She is almost 6 months old, so I am glad I made it a little bigger. It is made from pastel
pieced hearts set on point with a cream on cream background. I finished MQ it and just need to put the binding on.
Should get it finished by this weekend. Then on to the next project. I have so many projects in my head I have trouble
deciding what to do next.

Well, I guess I have rambled on enough for now. Will try to post again.

That little project (queen size, with borders, and set with tiny diamonds adn triangles, not hexagons!)is my project for the great great great grandkids to fight over! It simply won't be done before that! But it is nice to take along for swim class, etc. We're getting a bit of rain here in TN--but it's mostly the kinds that just steams everything up, and leaves you hotter than before and twice as grumpy. Cookies can be blocked easily from your own computer. I have Internet explorer at home. To block cookies, go to Tools, Internet Options, Security, Custom, and check disable cookies. I don't know the steps on Netscape, but they should be similar. I've done the same thing at work with netscape.
Cookies really are a major source of spam, as they send out your e-mail address, along with all kinds of other private information, as you surf. Cleaning cookies out would be great, but not getting them at all is even better. Warning, for some things, cookies may be required. For instance, for a "shopping cart" to remember your items from one visit to the next, a cookie might be required. Basically, the site will tell you if you need them, and you can then decide if you really want to use THAT site. Generally, to download a program, such as IM, you would need to "enable" cookies.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LINDA (IN STILLWATER)! I have to agree with the "wonder woman" nickname...I don't know how you find time to do anything, let alone time to quilt.

Celia: Have you tried "apple spray" to get your puppy to stop chewing stuff? We have used it on different things...shoes, furniture (test in hidden spot first), etc., and haven't had a problem since. We have a shih tzu and we have also used the spray when she puts on that "royal attitude" the breed is so well known for. She tends to get a little nippy if we try picking her up after she's heard us use "bath" and "Dalai" in the same sentence. We put a dab of the spray on a finger tip and let her taste it. She usually decides a bath isn't such a bad idea after all. Anyway, we found it at PetsMart, but I think I have seen it at WalMart, too. It's in a non aerosol, pump type bottle.

Later,

Subject: AWOL Too!
E-mail Address: ipelletier@sprint.ca

I guess I have been AWOL too, but I have been really busy playing the dual role of either Nurse Gopher or Nurse Fetchitt for Ivon who had surgery almost 2 weeks ago. He's fine now, but it sure has been hectic trying to keep one eye on a normally very active DH who has been bored to the teeth and won't follow Doctor's instructions,or a super active 4 months old puppy who is boring his teeth into everything he can get away with, and at the present time doesn't follow anyone's instructions, except his own!

Somewhere in there too I painted a bedroom, but haven't gotten around to putting up the border. It will have to wait now because on Friday we are leaving for a week at Loon Pond. I have only been a "nurse" for 2 weeks, but I want all those out there who are real life nurses to know that you have my greatest respect. You should all have medals. I will be quite happy to return to my usual status of PCer and sometimes Domestic Goddess-(lol) Have to get my priorities right!

It's been a variation of weather here, first really cold, then the past week of overbearing heat, and back now to cool and presently raining. We finally got all the bedding plants in today- much later than usual but since I didn't want to do it all myself,( to be truthful I didn't want to do it at all) I had to wait for the patient to be mobile again.

Emma called me yesterday from England and sends her love to everyone. All their furnishings and effects are now on the way here and until Friday they are living in an almost empty house, so she was feeling a bit lonely and fed up. They are moving to her Mom's for the next 2 weeks and then they fly over here on July 7th, and move in the new house here on the 12th, so she will be back in touch soon. I am not sure if they are bringing their PC because there is an electrical difference, but either way she can post from here.

Linda: Happy,Happy Birthday. I E-mailed you earlier today as you know, and didn't even mention it because I had not read the posts at that point and didn't know it was your special day. Hope you are having a great one, now who wouldn't be having a great time keeping track of 7 kids and 6 kitties! No wonder she has the nickname Wonder Woman.

Hugs for Elaine and Hale, and know that we are all with you in thoughts and prayers during Hale's transitional journey to a place of peace and rest. God Bless.

It made me think about all our ladies who have encountered the loss of a husband or in Nadine's case a very young and special daughter, and too those who have lost loved ones during this past year. I always read with sorrow your beautiful letters of thanks for our support, but I want to say that the credit really goes to you all for your strength, and indeed your trust for reaching out to us with your personal life issues. It is not an easy thing to do.

Do Do I am so pleased that Rhian's squishy arrived, and thanks for letting me know. She would have received it much sooner had I remembered to take it with me, but I didn't and so at least it wasn't too long in getting there.

Glad to see Marion back on board, I love hers and Fran's and now Sonia's stories from down under, and a warm welcome to Liz in Texas,Maddi's Nanny,Mary in WI ( you can't lurk anymore- it's one of the rules- once you post you give up lurking- just kidding) and anyone else who has been new in the last two weeks.

Special Hi to Rosalie, and Grace are you back yet? Loved the surprise envelope and the pics of Precious. Will be in touch when I know you are home again.
Hugs to all, nothing else to tell you, other than the darned drier shrank all my last summer's clothes yet again- don't know the symbol for a wink- must have something in my eye right now. Cassi lost 50 lbs and I know where some of it went! Will be in touch again when I return from Maine.

Take care and by the way, Doni is away right now bear hunting in Yellowstone Park- just ask her when she gets back! She just LOVES bears. Ya never know, she might just leave Mark there and bring a bear back home to Kansas with her.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LINDA IN STILLWATER!

I am another guilty of doing more lurking than posting and am also dissapointed on the days when not many post. There is always a laugh to be had or a story you can relate to,I find no one boring and some of you quite colourful. It is a pleasure to learn from such a diverse group of people from all over the world...a privilege really and will try personally to be more of a contributer to it.

BB Block report….

Brenda in MN Ontario: A swirly blue print reminiscent of water, and a background white on white print of shapes that are a variation of the Kikko-type Japanese design. It is a tessellated pattern that is based on the hexagon. Imagine three hexagons that share two sides; one with each neighbor. That is the basic block. Then they are joined with other blocks in an interlocking fashion. Is that clear as mud? It is a design that is used in sashiko (Japanese decorative quilting).

Catie in Saugerties, NY: a star of floral print with a watercolor feel to it, in greens and mauves. The background white on white has a dense pattern of leaves.

Lola in MN: A star with arms of delicate mauve and maroon leaves dusted with sparkly gold. The center of the star is a larger-scale floral in tan, green, and mauve. The white on white background is a delicate floral. Lola made a very nice card sending me sunshine and warm thoughts (EXTREMELY important for Iguanas, I might add….). WARM thoughts and sunshine are ALWAYS welcome!!

Bev the serial quilter, sent me a nice photo album to put my quilty memories in. I hope to have many quilty pictures! The first two I have, are not of quilts, but of some of the serials, Melinda in Indy and Bertie when I met them at Quilt America (was that just last year????).

Mom is out of the hospital, and I will be visiting her tomorrow. I'll let you all know how she is doing on Monday.

Greetings to Everyone !

So sorry I haven't posted in a while, but my life has been so consumed lately with my DH's illness, that I just haven't had the time or the energy to fill you in ! I wanted to thank all of you for being so thoughtful at this time during my DH's battle with cancer, all the wonderful notes and email concerns, plus now after being updated I find that Rosey and Susan have ask you all to think of DH and I as the time approaches the end for my DH (Hale)!! His energy level is going way down and I feel and the doctors feel the end can't be far off, so wanted to thank all of you personally for the wonderful people you are in standing by me at this time, your friendship and love means the world to each of us at difficult times in our lives, I am sure all of you would agree ! Not sure this was the place to post, but I did feel compelled to thank you and felt this could be the place that all of you may see it !

Thanks to all who emailed me about my upcoming hysterectomy. As usual the BB'ers are the best! I will email you all privately in the next couple of days. I am having some nasty problems that have developed in the last 3 days so surgery might be pushed up, not sure yet. My unit is still on Annual Training until Saturday but I am home today trying to get this under control. I am having terrible bleeding so they are worried they may have to put me in early and start a transfusion on me. Ugh! I will try to do whatever I can to prevent that. I feel like an old car that needs to go in for it's 50,000 mile checkup. I just hope they can get me up and running again!

Linda in Wisconsin, I wish your son the best of luck. I did my basic training at Ft. Jackson a long time ago. (wont go into how long ago)!! It's a nice post. He will be so proud to have you there for his graduation. It is the best feeling in the world for a young soldier when they walk across the parade field knowing all the hard work they have put in has finally paid off and there is someone there to see it.

Ronna, I miss you guys back east and am praying for your mom all the time. I am stil hoping to get back there before winter sets in. Will have to see how everything works out.

My son has started a job with the Dept. of Agriculture here in Yakima and really likes it. It's a summer job for right now but gives him something to do until August when he can then finish testing with the Washington State Patrol. That is his dream to be a police officer. He is my only child so of course I have mixed emotions about it but I know he must do what will make him happy. And besides since I wear a uniform I really can't say to much!!

Must run for now. I am going on about nothing mostly! Maybe I can find a quilty project to work on the rest of the day. I have a few to choose from, just need to pick one and go with it!!

Take care everyone and be safe.

My cats are happy again. After a couple of months of working on piecing blocks and making that slippery church banner, I finally pulled out a UFO to MQ. Finally! Something soft and cuddly on the sewing desk! DCs (cats) were on it in a flash. Since it was only a small wall hanging we had quite a discussion about my being able to move it around to actually quilt. I'm sure when I get home tonight they will both be sleeping on it. Is this a hint that their Mom should make them their own cuddly???

Have been spending time with my dd and the new dgs so he will get used to her schedule when she goes back to work...I get to keep him!! At least till he gets fussy and goes home.LOL

I have been redecorating, not expensively, just rearranging furniture, buying a few picture frames and plants, seems I want to have a pretty place where I am happy and safe...sort of like building a nest again, but not exactly. I did fix the bathroom sink I screwed up last time....had to redo the pipes under it,(kept falling out of the thingy that attaches it to the faucet and flooding the bathroom and my bedroom). I got the hot hooked up to the sink but not the cold, the pipe underneath was stripped so I lived with hot water only in the sink. Not too bad, but it was coming out of the cold side!!! Who knew? Yesterday I put in a new faucet and now am the proud user of hot and cold water in my bathroom sink......and right where they should be!!!

Tomorrow I will be making friendship stars to send to the other ladies on this page...this is such a wonderful thing to do and have done for you. Thanks you wonderful people you.

Got to go hug Joshua, he is looking like he needs one....

I am usually just a lurker, but today's lovely weather and our quilt quild meeting last night have got me in an upbeat mood. At our meeting we worked on our plans for our bi-annual quilt show. If our "show and tell" parts of the meetings are any indication, we should have a wonderful show. We have many talented women in our group (membership approx. 100). We will all be wearing aprons with quilted bibs-I guess I should get started on making mine. I joined this group 2 years ago after seeing the show. For those of you who are planning your fall adventures here is the information:
It is put on by the Wandering Foot Quilters and called "Stitching Thru Time". It will be held October 7 & 8 from 10:00 to 4:00 at the Oak Creek Community Center, 8580 South Howell Ave., Oak Creek, Wisconsin. This is about 3 miles south of the Milwaukee Airport near Puetz Rd., about a mile east of I-94. I hope to see some yellow yo-yo-s there!

Happy Birthday, Linda!

Thought I'd post the info on making fabric cards, as they have not been mentioned in a while and are a quick way to send a quilty message. To send a fabric greeting card by mail, you need fabric, freezer paper, an envelope and a stamp. Based on your envelope size, cut your freezer paper to size. For example, to send a tri-fold card the size of a business letter, you need freezer paper and fabric about 8 x 10". Iron the shiny side of the FP to the back of your fabric, write your message on the dull side, fold in thirds and pop into a business-sized env. I think that this size will only require a 33cent stamp.
Your recipient gets your greeting and has a fabric goodie to use down the road.

While watching this am's Simply Quilts (what beautiful beading as embellishment to quilts), I saw a commercial for the Phyllis George Quilting special - it is being rebroadcast on HGTV tonight, 10pm eastern time. Well worth watching and/or taping for later viewing.

Logging off now to get into the swamp that passes for my studio to do some serious picking up - when the cutting table and ironing board are both covered with heaps, it is time to get serious.

Linda the lurker, finally checking in. Summer vacation is finally settling into a routine for me and the kids. The first couple weeks are always kind of wild because the kids are so used to so much busyness during the school year. We love the slower pace that summer gives us. I have been working in the garden, in between rain that is, and I always gain a great sense of peace when I do that. I finished a small 30's appliqued flower throw and I am now working on a patriotic sampler lap quilt. Wow, there are some great patriotic fabrics out there but you have to get them fast.
Still missing DS #2 who is in basic training in South Carolina (he joined the Guards) although he just sent me his address so I can send him letters. Absolutely no sending cookies, they said:( If you live in South Carolina, blow him a kiss toward Fort Jackson for me. The good news is that it looks like we will be going to SC in August for his "graduation" or whatever it is called. This is a huge journey for someone like me who has hardly been out of the state of Wisconsin (Just into MN, hi Babes). I'm very excited about that.
Well, the sun is shining, think I will go see what new flowers will greet me. Have a super day everyone, enjoy every moment.

A coworker wanted a pair of red pumps for Christmas. I told her to just buy them, wrap them up and put them under the tree with a tag "To Sandy, from Santa". When opening presents times came, she was to open them up and enthusiastically exclaim "JUST what I wanted, how did you know, oh, thank you, thank you, etc." She did just that and as family members looked at each other with "did you? No, did you" looks on their faces, she fessed up and entire family laughed together about that. (And she didn't get a scolding for spending the money on them as she'd thought she would otherwise)

Today is fisrt day of my vacation and first on my agenda is clean house. (yuk but need to get this out of the way). Tomarrow we pack and Friday catch flight to Nova Scotia. Thanks to all who sent info on Nova Scotia. Had a big scare last week when confirming flights----our flight home from Boston had been cancelled and we were not notified. When DH called to see what was going on was told another dept. handled cancellation notifications. Anyway we were able to get another flight out of Boston early next morning. However airline declined to pay for our extra night in Boston.
Raeann-they have just started doing a new procedure at the hospital where I work called "vertebraplasty" for some cases of severe back pain. Ask your MD if he knows anything about this and if your son could benefit from this.
Also thanks to those who shared the rain--we had three glorious days of rain last week. We needed it badly and experts here say we still need at least 10 more inches to reduce drought conditions. I'm just thankful for what we got.
Must start cleaning now---have a quilty day

Just had to share this with you! In Tuesday edition of "Roanoke Times" I read the column written on computer savvy. There is a web site which will "clean up your tracks" (i.e. cookies) and free up hard drive space. There was a free download available for 30-days (after that annual subscription is $29.95 which includes upgrades and technical support). Checked it out and took advantage of the free download. It cleared out over 5,000 "cookies" which were taking up valuable space. Now as I understand "cookies", any time you surf the internet and click on a site which might look interesting it is put into the "cookie" file. You can then be targeted by
promotional/sales groups to receive their e-mails.
My "cookie" file is now clean!!

This program is "Window Washer" - http://www.webroot.com/plugin.htm and requires clean popular programs such as RealPlayer and Adobe Acrobat. I carefully followed the instructions - even printed them out so I wouldn't miss a step - but it was not difficult to install and took less than 6 minutes. After download a "squeegee" icon was on my desktop, plus same was next to the clock on Windows Taskbar, and I followed the steps from that point on.

I was so pleased with the effectiveness of "Window Washer" that I will continue after the 30-day trial period by subscribing. You may want to check your "cookie" file before making this decision - but a lot of what I found was "spam"
(including porno I might add; when this started popping up I contacted my ISP and requested this be blocked; haven't received any since then).

On the flip side, have had a busy week so far. Will be in NC on Thursday to close on our property and Airstream, which will be bought by the family who have the lot next to ours. DH goes to Dr today to determine status of kidney stones and the possibility of gall stones. Several times I have asked if his thyroid had ever been checked, and it has been determined his blood levels are low and that this might be the cause. Never a dull moment in our lives!!

BSC2000 are arriving - and one mysterious looking envelope from terter - still saving the grand opening for THE DAY!! I will send appropriate thanks after savoring each packet.

Have a great day, and remember to do something good for yourself!! Cheerio for now and (((hugs))) June in Virginia

Just imagine !! Sleeping in, finding the shower full of flowers, finding the kitchen sink full of flowers...CINDY R. you sure are a lucky girl !! Glad to know that your special day was SO special, all the best for the next 30years !!

My DH is hopeless about "special days" !! He's quite good at surprising me with the occasional bunch of flowers (which I really appreciate !) But, birthdays, anniverseries etc. could all pass by un-noticed. In our early married life I used to get quite upset. Then I decided to be quite pro-active, I bought myself a nice gift, wrapped it, tied a huge label on it with a suitable message and a large SIGN HERE at the bottom !!
The best ever effort was one year when I dressed in my wedding dress, got the DDs dressed up as bridesmaids. We waited for DH to come home... we waited and waited and waited.... Finally, in all my glory, I had to get on with the task in hand, (preparing dinner for the family and the boy who helped us on the farm) There I was, stirring gravy on the stove, with two twittering DDs in attendance, when DH finally returned home, complete with a new neighbour who had called in to make our acquaintance..... My very embarrassed DH made strange noises as he introduced me , no explanation was asked for or given, I continued stirring the gravy....
That was 30years ago.......the new neighbour became our very good friend, but it took awhile !

Must away to bed, have a good day everyone,

Some days, when I read the postings, I think I have something to say. Others days, maybe my life is stressful and I don't feel I want to share it with others. Then there are days when I feel my life is boring and I don't want to bore people or feel that what I have to say is not worthwhile. Yet, like Jan, I miss some of the irregular regulars - Dr. Ruthless may be tied up in some weighty matters with her other selves, Loon may be looney, Marty, watching for hummingbirds, Doris, off having tea with the Queen of Sweden, TerTer and Sandy Toes out there on the coast having the best and the worst of the weather as they sip tea, Dot, braving the wilds of Oregon with her adventures, and then we have new people coming on board, which is wonderful because it gives us a new slice of life to read about - so welcome to you folks, too.

The point is, that while many of us may consider not posting, we should just check in. Life, for me, this past winter, has been a little more stressful than others. For my strength, my enrichment, my sharing with others my burden, however large or small, I feel connected with others and this helps me in facing my own life. None of us are alone, we all have a story to tell, indeed, this chat board is truly about networking. Having met Elaine and her husband, Hale, this past April, in North Carolina, I have the most wonderful memories of a lovely shared day. My husband has a smile on his face everytime I mention Elaine or Hale because he had the most exciting ride in Hale's shiney bi-wing aeroplane, dipsy doodling over the mountains and towns of westerly North Carolina while Elaine and I sat having lunch and saying to each other - do you hear what I hear as our husbands danced amongst the clouds in a rather noisey fashion. That time would not have happened without my connection to Elaine through the board here.

And, on I go, so I mustn't.

Today is misty, softly rainy, like a day in the countryside in England where DoDo and others on our board live. Having been there myself several times, I feel like I am transported to England today with our weather here in Ontario. And, today is cleaning day - every two weeks I have help with shovelling out the house. Whooppeeeee!

Subject: printing things out
E-mail Address: gfmason@whyalla.gulf.net.au

How you miss things when they’re not working!! I was printing out some photographs on our “you-beaut” printer about 3 weeks ago and suddenly it started to do funny things, like having blue stripes through it, then black, then nothing. DS#3 and I spent the afternoon doing the diagnostic tests that show up on the computer, ‘having kittens’ at every step because DH was at work, and “everything goes wrong when I’m not home!“ Nothing happened, even when he did get here, so the next step was to ring the printer company concerned, as thankfully it’s still under warranty (actually not even paid for as we bought it on the “buy now, pay in 12 months” plan!)
The phone call is taken in Sydney, halfway across the continent, and takes 20 minutes to go through all the “dial 1 for attention,” and “we value your service, but all available lines are busy” rigmarole. But once a real person was on the other end, things started looking up! Instead of having to take the printer back to point of sale (4 hours drive away) or send it to Adelaide or Sydney, they worked out over the phone and computer what was wrong, and were prepared to send us a new black ink and 3 colour print heads by overnight mail. These duly arrived 2 days later, but still it wouldn’t print! Another long phone call (thank goodness for 1800 lines!) which ended up with the decision to send a black print head. Which didn’t arrive. And assignments were building up. Everyone almost panicked, until we remembered that the ‘old’ games computer in the boys’ room also had the old printer attached. This meant saving school work, etc to disk, transferring it to the second computer and standing there feeding paper into said printer one piece at a time because it’s lost the ability to print one after the other by itself!! Visualize 3 people taking turns to have showers and eat breakfast while also taking turns to run to the printer to feed in each page so DS#3 can get an 18 page assignment in that morning………?
In the meantime the printer in the library, which is used daily but especially at this time of the term when printouts of overdue books are the main order of the day, starts to print out decidedly faint work. I tell the computer technician, whose answer is “but it can’t have used up all that ink already!”. End of story as far as he’s concerned, until the next day when there’s now only blank sheets coming through. Another phone call to Sydney, and a week of “sorry, we can’t print anything at the moment” (although some programs can change text colour and I print out several ‘must-do’ pages in blue.)
Back to the home computer, and the black print head finally arrives (they’d had to order them in, etc, etc.) and now the printer works – hooray! But first of all there was another diagnostic test we were told we should do, where TEN pages of full colour strips of yellow, blue and red have to be printed out!! What a waste of ink!! But apparently with this printer things do start to go wrong if you don’t print out a certain amount of colour each week! Must start printing more photographs!! (And we DID end up with a new black ink cartridge for our troubles!)
Anyway, the library’s ink has also arrived, so overdue notes start going out tomorrow. Which means that in 2 weeks time I have another two weeks holiday and can do some quality quilting, like finishing my lilies, and starting the tiger, and squeezing in a baby cot quilt for a new niece/nephew in New Zealand………… Can’t wait!!

Was all set to send some emails out to several people who I owe replies to but the program seems to be playing up. Sorry about that . Will try again later.

Raeann – so sad to hear about your son and all the pain he’s going through. I do hope you can find someone who can help him somehow.

Linda in Stillwater – HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

Re MSN – I talk regularly to DS#1 in Tassie, and two BILs in NZ – it’s great!! And I can do other things while they’re typing their answer to me, such as working on schoolwork, etc., because when they’ve posted we get flashing lights and gongs to let me know it’s my turn. Would love to talk to some of you over in North America – we’d just have to work out this 12 hour difference!!
OK. Back to school work. [I have to do lesson plans for 17 classes for next term before next week (sigh).]

Wow! Was I ever surprised to 'hear' from Bertie in Ill., Marge in N.E.Pa.,Nancy Vase in?,Norma in Lititz,Pa. (quilt/Amish country) within hours of my first attempt at chatting. And they helped clear my thoughts as to why, when, and how to get going with my 'My Maddi' quilt.
One told of wearing yellow yo-yos(love this)to places quilt related to identify myslf as a chat room friend and I will do that. Such fun!
Got a big hug from my Maddi today.

Subject: I Need Help
E-mail Address: raeann@istmacon.net

This is not quilt related but I need some help and this is the first place I thought of.

Our son has had 3 back surgeries. The last one was a bone fusion with instrumentation (13 pcs. of metal in back) This was almost 2 yrs. ago. Since that time he has deteriorated and his surgeon says its "Failed Back Syndrome". He gave us no help, advice, or someplace else to go. With the metal, MRIs are out. Son has had 3 epidurals and 2 myleogams which show the fusion is solid, etc.

Spent 5 hours today in the ER while son was getting IVs of heavy duty drugs for the pain. This cannot go on. Son has lost his job, no insurance and I am at my wits end.

My question, how does someone go about finding doctors at the top in their field? In this case, orthopaedics? I know several of you are nurses. Please Email me privately.

Thanks for listening.

It's good to see so many posting today. We still need to hear from some of you who have been silent for soooooooooooooooo long. Brenda and Doni, miss your wonderful humor. Celia miss your lovely presence and Loon, you are truely missed.

Hope everyone enjoyed their tea today. I was unable to take tea with you, but sent my thoughts your way.

DoDo, please excuse my ignorance, but what is a cream tea?

Welcome to Arkansas Nanny. Hope you keep coming back and posting.

Jean and Rosey, fresh bread-- yummmmmmmmmmmmm!

Liz in TX, your cake recipe sounds so good! Will have to give it a try!

I'm working against myself today. I've been working on an applique block for a block round robin exchange. Well, did part of it wrong, so am spending lots of time with Jack (the ripper, that is). Maybe someday I'll be more carful, but really doubt it.

Dr. Ruth, where are you. Been missing your zany posts. Hope you're not locked up again. If you are, just let us know and maybe we can bake a cake with a file in it for you.
Hugs to all(because all of us need them at times)

Is MSN the same thing as IM only on a different carrier or whatever? I'm technically challenged.

SandyToes: There's a list of the IM'ers code names on Kelly's page, I think. Got your cookie cutter angel pattern by the way and thank you! I miss you, too.

I had tea with my wonderful DD today. We made tea, served it in one of my oriental tea pots with the fine china, had cinnamon toast cut in triangles. Served the tea with sugar and cream. My DD is so cute. she sipped the tea like a lady. I was thinking of all of you.
I talked with my mom this morning and she has a snoopy dance! (she lurks sometimes!) When we were visiting TerTer (I took my mom along for protection!) Pam sew red showed us the most beautiful redwork, and then TerTer showed us her pink work and the purple work. Well, my mom said, "I really like the redwork, I think I will start some." So we went to Walmart, she bought red floss, some dishtowels and some patterns. She was making dish towels for all of the wifes for the reunion we are going to go to in St Louis over the 4th. WEll, she finished the towels! She really enjoyed the redwork, said it was nice to be working with her hands again.
thanks for the information on the blocks needed. I printed out the list and will work on the blocks before I leave. This is our first family reunion ever and everyone is going to be there. I am going to take some 4 1/2" blocks with me so they can be signed. I am going to take my mini Baltimore Album blocks to work on. Decided not to take the Y2K quilt because it is getting too big and I don't want to lose it. I sewed on the 1100 hexegon last night! only 900 more to go!

E-mail Address: quiltersretreatAThotmailDOTcom

I slept in this AM, first time in ages I've done that. Felt wonderful. But imagine my surprise when I went to shower and found the tub full of flowers. Must have been a plumbing problem, kitchen sink was full also. 36 carnations in the tub, and beautiful star gazer lilies in the kitchen sink. Not only inside, but outside too. A new tree in the back yard, and new flowering plants in the garden. And I thought DH was going to work early... no, he was up to mischief. Took me forever to get them arranged and put away! What a lovely way to start the 30th year of our life together.

We both had some work to tend to today, but met in time for our tea at three. We were planning a early romantic dinner, so drove at Bethany Beach, were we enjoyed a cup of tea and the soft ocean breezes and gently whispers of the waves. It was quite lovely, and I greatly enjoyed it. Later we feasted on crab legs, shrimp, clams and salads, then another walk on the beach and home!

The site to view the animals in Africa, I believe is just africam.com. It has been a while since I was out there..the animals are usually out most when I am long in bed, but have caught them once and a while.

Rosalie, Bobbie and Ronna, you blocks are going out tomorrow. Sorry they are a little slow in coming.

Linda, I would love to send you one for your mom. I will try to find your email, I'm sure I can find a post from you in the last day or two. If not, would you please email me with it? Just replace the AT w/ @ and the DOT with ., and so on. Am I also to understand that you would like the block to be an Angel? If so, if anyone has a pieced pattern, I would love to try one. Have never done paper piecing or applique, so my talents are limited to piecing.

Ursula, I would love to send on for your mother also. Could someone send me the details for this one too?

The uncle that I have mentioned a couple of times was just told that the cancer has matastisized (sp?) to the liver. They say 6 months if they do nothing and at the most a year if they try chemo again. He and my Aunt have been incredible through all of it. I feel so helpless, I want so bad to be helpful and supportive, but have no idea how. Death is such a difficult subject to talk about. It was so nice of Marty and the other BB members to share their thoughts and experiences with us.

Kathy is one of my six Aunts that have been meeting for the past six months as our own quilting group. She just started quilting a few months before we started getting together. I think she has completed at least 6 or 7 already. Quilting is such a theraputic hobby, obsession, passion, past time or whatever you wish to call it. She is currently organizing a project to make and distribute quilts to a girls orphanage in Haiti.

I am wondering if any of you would be interested in sending her a card, email or whatever for encouragment. I have shared with her, about this board and the wonderful people I have met through it, and a little help from Ohio 99. (can you believe it has been almost a year already?) Anyway, if anyone is interested, email me and I can get her snail addy or email addy.

My DD #2 graduated last week. Deffinately cause for celebration. Now come the decisions of life....this daughter is not really prepared for reality, so we are keeping her in our prayers.

Taking a trip to SHipshawana next Wednesday the 28th. Anyone going to be in the area? Have to take every opportunity to meet a fellow BBr.

Love you all

Just one correction and one addition to Kitty Kate's summary.

Ursula: would like 6.5" angel blocks any colour and signed for her mother's quilt.

Elaine Wallace: her DH is terminally ill with cancer and we are sending blocks. No specifications were given, but I sent a 6.5" friendship star as I made a few ahead while I was making them earlier.

Who started building an Ark last week? Maybe you can send it up here if you don't need it. We have had rain all day. Tonight it finally stopped long enough for me to take my rent-a-dog for a walk. Boy was he hyper. I lost my dog and my exercise over the winter, so now I walk a neighbour's dog and get all the exercise without the doghair and the doggy doo and the digging in my flower beds.

Yesterday we had summer!! At last! one whole day. I guess we were just spoiled after a few years of very warm Mays and Junes. It has been really cool and rainy all spring and today its back to normal. I worked a little while on the Debbie Mumm quilt that I got through a block swap, but put it down in disgust when one corner decided to stick waay out in the wrong direction instead of a nice 90 degree angle. Tomorrow I'll fix it. I just can't get motivated today.

Yesterday our guild had their year-end pot-luck and we all ate way too much good food. Many of our members had just returned from the MN quilt show in Rochester and now everyone is planning to go to the one in Duluth next June. I blew my bundle when I went to MN2000 in May so I just stayed home and thought about the quilt show. The women were saying that in some classes there were almost more Candians than Americans. Rochester is an 8 hour drive from here so you can see that we are really quilt show deprived in Thunder Bay.

Hi there!
I feel like a newbie since I haven't posted in a long, long time!
I get to do a Snoopy Dance for finishing a baby quilt. This is the second quilt top that I had to make once we realized that the "baby boy" that DH's co-worker had was really named Emily Ann! It is a lovely Log Cabin done in soft blue, green, yellow, and pink. We gave it to the new Mom today and she loved it!
DH is still in his casts--any one want a motorcycle?--he should be getting at least one of them off next week. DS is in Dulmen, Germany as of last night and will be gone until mid July.
DD--Rachel in San Diego, who works at Rosie's--is soon to be Rachel in Philadelphia! DSIL was hired for his first post-Marine job on Saturday and will be starting July 10th. How many of you other Moms have your children living across the country from you? Should I sign up for frequent flyer miles???? :-) When DD moved to San Diego last year, Barbara and Patti became her "BB Moms" and have kept a watch over her for me. So, any quilters in Philly need an extra kid? :-)

YYY are coming to MY HOUSE! This weekend is the local guild's quilt show and I get to see Lee and her Mom, Sandy Toes, Betty, and Kitty Kate. We are trying to all get together at my place on Friday evening. Any one else heading to Sequim???

TTFN!

Well, I was deciding what to do for tea today when I realized that I left my wallet at home. So I enjoyed a granola bar at my desk with some water, while I surfed fabric sites. A very enjoyable mental-health break. :)

I finished a quilt top last night for the first of my summer list of baby quilts. It seems like everyone I know has had a kid recently (6 new additions since April, and those twins were VERY early). I figure I'll get started on my next top, and when I get home from St. Louis and Chicago, I'll start MQ-ing.

Speaking of which, are there any good shops in those areas I shouldn't miss? Hope everyone else enjoyed their tea!

We had just come back from a lunch date, My friend picked me up and took me to a tea garden deap in the Quantock hills. I had never been their before. What a treat, the owners have developed the most wonderfull gardens complete with a brook. In the summer they open them up and serve lunches and cream teas..Oh i ate so much..couldn`t even face dinner tonight, cooked for everyone else and sat with another cup of tea. Still full now. Guess no weight loss this week.LOL Thought the day was going to be a disaster as i woke to the sound of rain, but this had gone by 9am. A mixture of sun and clouds but still warm. Sorry Angela the weather has been fairly dry since you left..At least you saw England at it`s best nice and green.
Di in CO. Thank you ,no it`s not too late to send the fabric, Rhian has been planning it but we are not starting it until she finishes school at the end of July. She is still getting very tired and is trying to keep on top of her school work.Lot`s of it to.
See lot`s of angels flying across the skys they will make such a nice quilt. will be gerat fun to put them all together.Mine has farther to fly so will take a little longer and it`s wings will need a rest LOL
Well better go and console DH England Just lost their football match so we are now out of the Euro 2000 games. Guess there will be less football on our television now..Yippee..
Have a good tea time i`ll be asleep when some of you reach 3pm so think of me in the land of nod..LOL

I'm still considering my self a newbie, so forgive asking what I should have noticed before, ok?
I'm finally getting some stuff done so I can breathe! As a result, I'm going to take the plunge and try to make one of those angel squares for Ursula's mom--but what was the wish list again? You know the stuff I need to know--size, and prefered colors, if any. I've got a bit of an idea....
Also, I have a Snoopy Dance! I got one of the 4th grades done last week, and it is gorgeous! Yes, it is worth putting all those tiny little triangles together, and no, I won't be repeating this pattern for one I donate to the school again! At least not after I finish the Other fourth grade for this year! Just how crazy was I? Suffice it to say that these quilts are a modified Ocean Wave....

Still morning here and a beautiful day. That means that I am stuck inside at the moment while a lot of bread dough rises in the kitchen. Once it is done I can get out to work on the yard and only have to be back when the lady comes to pick her bread up. And I can't complain -- this little business IS sending me to Houston!
Terter was asking about the MSN Messenger. If you set up a Hotmail account you automatically have MSN, and all the information about using it is on the help thing that is part of the download. Hotmail is free (and easy.)I set up a hotmail account for all my 'junk' mail -- newsletters, magazines, etc, that I did not want to have cluttering up the regular mail and my computer.
My new e-mail service is Eudora Light (since Outlook Express crashed on me) and it has an even more interesting thing. Again it is a free download and comes with the e-mail. It allows you to send voice recordings by e-mail. Cool,eh? Read a story to the grandbaby and e-mail it? Haven't tried it yet, but will. The recipient has to download the player, but that's also free(and easy.)
I hope those that have built ponds are enjoying them. I won't have one (water attracts snakes -- YECH) but I have been making a dry river bed, about 3 feet wide and 60 feet long to wend through what will be a huge perennial garden. You should have seen the faces around here when I got the backhoe guy to carry all the boulders I could find into the middle of my front yard! It looks good now, though. Please do not point out to me that snakes also like dry stones!
BTW-- if any of you energetic types who are cleaning out your sewing rooms have poly cottons to dispose of, feel free to send them this way. I promise that every scrap will find its way into the chemo quilts, and I will add the BB to the list of credits on the wall hanging that will wind up the project.
Wow! I never do such long posts! I'd better get back to my kitchen!

Subject: Making those fabric grapes
E-mail Address: bettylocke@yahoo.com

Ellie S on simply quilts recommended that you take the sticky little dots
you buy from office supply places in the size you want to make. Stick the dot
on the wrong side of the fabric and cut the grape with allowance.
Now take the dot off the wrong side and put it on the right side of the cut
grape. The trick here is to lay it on the right side of the fabric with the
sticky side up. Now, put your finger in the middle of the sticky dot and take
your seam ripper and turn the seam allowance over the edge of the dot. Do just a
smidgeon at a time. This needs a bit of practice -- for me, it took a lot of practice.

Terter: Geez I just spent a morning tearing morning glories off the rhodys and the
hedge. Can I send you some more? They seem to grow about 6 feet a day. The day
lilies are looking good, but the deer ate my only rose. I saw them do it and they
were so cute that I just wished them a good morning.

Many thanks to those who made me feel so welcome. And to those who took the time to e-mail me, I'll eventually thank you personally.

Linda in Stillwater--the block is on its way!

I just posted on the WWQP Cooking Quilters page a new cake recipe I tried Sunday afternoon. It uses a cake mix, a box of frosting mix (this was a little hard to find, as most of the frostings come prepared, in cans--found it at the third store!!), eggs, oil, water, and chopped pecans. The recipe was given to me recently by a friend who moved out of town yesterday. She used a butter pecan cake mix, and when she served it to a group, everyone wanted the recipe. I wanted to try it and did not have a butter pecan mix, so tried a German chocolate mix, and it was yummmmmmmmy!

Y'all have a quilty day!
