Appliquilts

Title of Page: A Special Birthday Quilt Information to go with the photos: Heather celebrated her 21st birthday in May this year. The quilt I made for her features her favourite colours of blue and burgundy, in a new design which I've created, called "Country Hearts". It is worked using the appliquilt method, using fabrics which I've received from all over the world in exchange for patterns. Some of you might recognize some of them! Heather was very happy with her new quilt. We also gave her a blue cane chair, which she is sitting on, but which is obscured by the quilt! This new pattern is now available - please go to the Pattern Information page to find out how to order one.
Appliquilting - is a one-step method of applique and quilting, invented by American quilter and teacher, Tonee White.

The reason - to take the worry out of applique. As she says in her book, Appliquilts, "there are enough rules in our lives that we must follow ... quilting [should be used] as a vehicle to express yourself in a happy and enjoyable way." (p. 5)

I have taken these quilts one step further, by adapting naive, country-style designs to the appliquilt way of doing things. Fusible paper, buttons and pinking shears are essential tools, plus fabrics which enhance the chosen designs.

Perle cotton is used for the appliquilting process, with the knots being left exposed. This feature adds to the "folk" quality of these creations.

The book is available from Amazon Books - the URL is http://www.amazon.com. If you would like a copy of the patterns I've used, see Pattern Information.
