Ruby Beholder Tool

Designed by Patricia Maixner Magaret and Donna Ingram Slusser
Produced by That Patchwork Place, Inc.

Great quilts can become even more striking when you use this tool to select fabrics with just the right value! Use this versatile tool to help you sort and arrange your fabrics by value and identify the perfect piece for your watercolor quilt as well as other quilting projects.

The ruby red rectangle is indispensable when sorting fabrics and evaluating shadings, especially in watercolor-type designs. When you look through the ruby red rectangle, all colors in the fabrics are eliminated. All you see is value, the lightness or darkness of the color. This helps when organizing fabrics in shadings from light to dark. Use it in traditional projects to check the value contrasts of the fabrics you want to use.

You can use the cutout end as a template for marking and cutting a desired square. Find that special motif by moving the window template part of the tool over the surface of the print. Mark and cut.
