This slide lecture will show many of the concepts behind designing a contemporary floral applique quilt. Detailed slides of quilts will be shown.
Start on your own contemporary floral applique quilt by learning a variety of techniques: cutwork applique, reverse applique, pre-construction of flowers and pen and ink stippling. Also included will be an overview of color and fabrics so your flowers will have a lifelike quality. This two-session workshop will cover using asymmetrical sets and planning borders and quilts. Source material is the inspiration for this class Each student will start from their own source material and will leave with a design. Basic design principles as they apply to nature will be discussed along with appropriate materials to accomplish each quilt or block pattern. This two-day workshop encourages group discussion. Explore the planning and execution of an applique border in this one-day workshop. Students will draw designs on paper to show how to make the middle and corners work for any size border on any size quilt. How to use asymmetrical borders will also be discussed,
Reverse applique is the focus of this one-day workshop. Students will create a vine and leaf pattern using reverse applique for the vines and direct applique for the leaves. They will also make some of those tiny berries to add detail.
Use the eight inch blocks from Applique In Bloom to start a smaller size contemporary floral applique quilt. These smaller blocks contain all the techniques from the larger patterns but work up faster. A good class for beginners this one-day workshop will also cover settings, borders, and use of fabric. Each student will be encouraged to try a different one of the patterns so all the students can learn from their experience.
This half-day workshop covers all the applique techniques used in Applique In Bloom. No patterns will be used but each student will have the opportunity to practice each of the techniques from basic needleturn to pen and ink stippling. A good refresher course or a perfect class for beginners.
Discover the flowers hidden in the fabric in this half-day workshop. Window templates will be used to study a variety of fabrics and how they can be used in floral applique. A discussion of color and value will also be included .
